2. Lots of things get added to the game that it doesn't NEED.

Did we NEED Costume Change Emotes? No.

Did we NEED additional Power Trays? No.

    Et cetera.

A better argument would be whether this would make enough existing players say "YAY!", and enough new players say "COOL!", to be worth the effort.

Change Origin: You choose your new origin, your inherent power is replaced, and you go straight to the Enhancement Slotting phase of a Respec. If an Enhancement is no longer compatible with your origin, you can't slot it.

Change Height/Build: You are taken to the size and build portion of the Character Creator. You make the changes you want, your costume(s), power "origin points", and anything else affected are recalculated for the new build, and your character record is updated with the new info. Within the current character system you couldn't change your body type (Female/Male/Huge), and the changes would have to apply to all costume slots, but it could be done.

Neither one is impossible. If they want to limit the usage, make them paid options. People who didn't think they were worth paying for could still just reroll.

Would they be worth the effort to implement? That's a good question.

Well, I haven’t seen it at least. Granted with the way level cap threads tend to go, who’s going to go looking very far?

Anyway, the arguments against level cap increase are many. Workload time, the PiTA of having to add more powers to all the pools, the ‘and then what?’ issues, all and more are brought up whenever the level cap is mentioned. And I won’t argue against them.

But, it occurred to me the other day when I was really, Really bored… what if they did raise the level cap, but approached what raising the cap would mean? Most just presume that raising the cap would just mean “and you get another 10 levels of the same, and look how much work that’d be”. But it could be interesting if the cap were raised, not giving you more powers, simply giving you more slots for your powers… allowing you to slot past 6. A friend of mine had a character with a nasty glitch; no matter how much XP he earned, he couldn’t level past the mid-40’s. Every time he’s get enough XP to level, the XP counter would just reset.

But it had a strange side-effect. It let him add more than 6 slots to his powers. He had a killer 12-slotted Knockout Blow.

And, being an old ‘comic geek’, the epic superheroes HAVE these incredibly powerful powers. Superman can’t be capped at 6 slots on his Super-Strength, for example.

I know that just the idea of raising the level cap generates ire and all, but I thought this was an interesting take on the idea that doesn’t involve drastic powers additions or new zones or any such thing. It lets High Level characters continue to progress and grow in power with a minimum of Dev work.

    Opinions?

[/ QUOTE ]Okay, so assume you can continue to "level", but the only thing you get is more slots. You don't get any additional powers. There's no new content in the game, no new mobs, no new enemies, no new TFs/Sfs, etc. When you go into a mission, all the mobs are at the same maximum levels they are now.

Once you get so powerful that you can defeat ANYTHING in the game in a couple of hits, what's the point? What are you going to do that you can't do at 50?
  4. [ QUOTE ]
Correct. I don't want to kill farmers. If they want to farm, so be it. While yes, they may have more ready inf than you do for Market-PvP, they're also putting more into the market too.

The devs have no problem with farming. And have said so.
What the devs have a problem with are utilization of exploits to blow out the earnings curve.

[/ QUOTE ]I completely agree that the Devs have given no indication that they want to eliminate the Farming that existed before the Mission Architect.

But their "No Farms in Mission Architect" stand seems to indicate that they DO have some kind of objection to farming in the Mission Architect, even without utilizing exploits. (I think they're trying to keep it below a certain level, rather than completely eliminate it, but that's a topic for a different thread.)

In regular content, though? Agreed. There is no reason to think the Devs want to kill it.

Can I add one? The helpers ... I am a Taxibot and there are a number of other groups out there just like us that spend time in the Hollows, Kings Row, or where ever lending a hand to new players with heals, buffs, teleport, etc. Hey I have even seen 50 levels lingering outside the Tailors in IP protecting players that arrive there since it seems like the Family is always hanging on the corner within aggro range. Add the players that have created Global channels helping players find everything from a team to a Task Force and anything in between to that category.

Opps almost forgot the players that run Paragon Wiki Arguably the best source of info in the game so players can look up just about anything in game. This list could get pretty long .. the guys that created Vidiotmaps, the one that designed the Midi Hero Builder, people like Red Tomax that were providing game details before the Wiki was even born. And people here on the forums that offer guides and advice to anyone that asks. Did I miss anyone? Probably but you get the idea.. no one is making them do these things and no one is paying them a dime for their time .. they do it because they love the game and want everyone to have the best possible experience they can playing it.

    [/ QUOTE ]
You're describing "Mentor", but you have definitely expanded the definition:

Mentor/Helper: enjoys helping other players enjoy the game, especially newer ones. Always ready to “lend a hand”. (Includes the people who create game-related support materials; Paragon Wiki, the various map sites, the character design programs, etc.)

WITHOUT getting into a discussion of the pros and cons of each style, I'm interested in how many different playstyles are distinct enough to have their own names.

    I'm aware of:

    Farmer

    Powerleveler/PLer

    Roleplayer/RPer

    PvPer

    Badger

    (Ebil) Marketeer

    Any others?

(Casual vs. Hardcore is more an expression of attitude towards the game than a specific playstyle.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

My only issue with your list is farmer = powerleveler.

    Farming for XP .....

[/ QUOTE ]Oh, carp, I'm sorry, Folonius, I didn't see your post until now.

I have NEVER equated Farmer and Powerleveler, that's why I put them on separate lines. And I hope that's even more clear in the current version of the list, where I say "Usually also a Farmer".

I completely recognize that many Farmers are not Powerlevelers. I don't see, though, how anyone could be a Powerleveler without also being a Farmer, but since I can't be absolutely sure of that, I said "Usually".

If you (or anyone else) feel that it is still an invalid assumption, let me know.

I'm on a team running the Midnighter's Club arc. (I'd run it several times before, both solo and on teams.)

We get the "Cure the Lost" mission, and several of us head for Perez Park.

I'm hitting Lost left and right, and I notice that none of mine seem to be reducing the count.

Just then I get a tell: "We're supposed to CURE them, not kill them"

I need a better definition for Street Sweeper, one that covers Redside, too.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Street Sweeper- one who enjoys "arresting"(street sweeper) or "roughing up"(hunter) npc's in zones in between their main play type. May be more particular to this play type during lower levels; then they may branch out to other types of play.

*I don't believe anyone would go 1-50 just on street content alone. *

May not be deserving of full category...maybe belong as a sub-type under Explorer. (?) (OTOH, may be deserving of TWO seperate catergories with Street Sweeper refering to blueside and Hunter refering to redside)

    what do you think?

[/ QUOTE ]I've never played Redside. Blueside, street sweeping is solely of arresting mobs standing around or walking in a limited paths on the streets. They may be threatening civilians in various ways (just threatening, or attempting robbery), committing various acts of larceny or vandalism, fighting one another and/or local law enforcement, or just "hanging out".

What can you do for XP on the streets Redside?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ambush Longbow and Arachnos. Also Hellions, Family, Scrapyarders and pretty much anyone you see; but especially Longbow.

I have several villains who make a hobby out of seeking out and destroying high-conning Longbow Wardens. I have been playing CoH since march of '08 and still to this day, the only good Longbow is a Longbow with a red reticle and an empty HP bar. Hate them.

I think I can come up with another one.

Daredevil - A subset of the combatant, but the daredevil purposely seeks out challenges that he or she really has no business attempting. Like soloing AVs on a sub-optimal build or even tanking an AV for a team on a Blaster. Win or lose doesn't matter much, it's the rush of facing impossible odds... and sometimes pulling it off anyway. May or may not be the mindset that created the Blapper style Blaster.

It's more of a subtype, yes, but I feel the "doing something stupid, and getting away with it" style was missing. It's surprising what you actually CAN pull off in this game, even without Min/Maxing. Scrappers are good at this type, too.

[/ QUOTE ]Heheh. All the way through, I kept thinking "sounds like a scrapper to me".

    I thought of:

Leeroy: completely spurning tactics or planning, Leeroys prefer to hurl themselves into the middle of the fight and see what happens. Leeroys tend to die frequently, and spectacularly. (Named for the WoW character, Leeroy Jenkins.)

but I'm not sure if it's an approach to playing the game, or more of a personality type, like "Motor Mouth".

What do you folks think? (And if you think Motor Mouth belongs, I'll put it in too!)

22" widescreen, running 1440x900 (because my video card's not beefy enough to handle more). You have the same choices for resolution of the game that you do for your desktop.

Unfortunately, not everyone has that option. Due to m'Hunny's wrist problems (not Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, but similar), the cheapest keyboard that didn't exacerbate the condition was almost $150. If that had ever gotten spilled on, you can bet we would have tried everything we could to rescue it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Ugh <;_;>

My sympathies too, I have a wrist condition as well (tendonitus, from an old tree climbing injury), but I'm lucky that it flares up quite infrequently. When it does though I have to quit using the comp, sometimes for as long as a week. Sucks <;_;>

Eww. My primary entertainments are Reading, "Computtering", watching Movies, and CoH. A week with no computer would be . . . Not Good.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
    A Compromise, then?

How about making them unlockable for both real world money or in game currency (such as Merits)?

A Maximum of 9 costumes. 1 is free, 3 are earned, 1 is purchased with salvage, and 4 that can be purchased with merits OR Real World Currency (for people who don't want to 'waste' the merits)

It gives an option, and could put more money into the game's coffers.

    -Rachel-

[/ QUOTE ]Even if it was only a total of eight due to some code-related reason or limit, I have a character that could sure use the extra ones for his second build.

Per character, right? Just like the existing ones?

Would the additional ones need some kind of level limit? Or would it be okay to have level 1's running around with 4 or 5 costume slots? A level 1 can, in theory, unlock the Salvage one, so I don't see any obvious problem with it.

well really, you would think a dev developer would do the same and not throw a hissy fit like a 2yr old. but look what happen. It was a devs tantrum and him reverting to a 2yr old again that start this. But i dont see you saying anything about that. I would think the devs namely posi would be more inclined to act like a professional but that clearly didnt happen. Why would you expect anything more from the players?
