Correcting mistakes
Or? They can continue to go on with I15, rather than make one of your silly little Origin changes.

Or we could supply actual reasons why something shouldn't be done other then "The Devs have better things to do" since we aren't the dev's daily planners.
Unfortunately powers are baked in to the character's height. So that when someone 4 feet tall throws off a fireball it shows the exact same animation as someone 8 feet tall, with the anchor-point for the fireball animation itself being the outstretched hand.
By altering the size of the character you could create an 8 foot tall fire blaster hurling fireballs from his knees while doing the throw animation some 4 feet higher.
Rachel-
PS. Yes. I'm aware that it likely wouldn't be his -knees- that the fireball is coming from. However the example was for explanation purposes only and can't be made accurate on Teen Rated Forums. =-P
The only reason I can come up for not allowing Origin changes is the starter origin powers.
But if we could change it on the ID screen I think having a magic user who throws knives now and again would be awesome.

Also? Because of Origin-Enhancements. SOs, and whatnot. What happens to them? Are they just negated, or sold automatically?
Or maybe it's just. I just don't see Origin changes as something that the game even NEEDS.

They would go unusable until swapped out.
Lots of things get added to the game that it doesn't NEED.
Did we NEED Costume Change Emotes? No.
Did we NEED additional Power Trays? No.
Et cetera.
A better argument would be whether this would make enough existing players say "YAY!", and enough new players say "COOL!", to be worth the effort.
Change Origin: You choose your new origin, your inherent power is replaced, and you go straight to the Enhancement Slotting phase of a Respec. If an Enhancement is no longer compatible with your origin, you can't slot it.
Change Height/Build: You are taken to the size and build portion of the Character Creator. You make the changes you want, your costume(s), power "origin points", and anything else affected are recalculated for the new build, and your character record is updated with the new info. Within the current character system you couldn't change your body type (Female/Male/Huge), and the changes would have to apply to all costume slots, but it could be done.
Neither one is impossible. If they want to limit the usage, make them paid options. People who didn't think they were worth paying for could still just reroll.
Would they be worth the effort to implement? That's a good question.
The most height adjustment you can make is on the matter of inches - the request for this to be changeable has been made on occasion, yes. I'm *assuming* it's - well, a character "foundation," for lack of a better way of putting it, that other items are based off of, and that changing it drastically would cause more problems than we think.
Wouldn't mind being proven wrong on that.
As for the origin issue... how "off" is it? Since it's an RP reason you're looking at for wanting to change. For instance, you could have picked, say, a Rad/ defender and said it's mutation, but find yourself looking and acting very tech based. To me, this wouldn't be an issue - the origin of the power is STILL the mutation, you're just using technology to refine and direct the energy.
Some are more of a stretch, admittedly.
Of course there is, as mentioned, the issue of the few origin-specific pieces in game - your starting contact heroside, the effects of some temp powers (which I'd assume would either be on or off, though I think there are a few that give you specifically *different* powers based on origin, as opposed to different effects,) and enhancements - the last, I think, would call for this only to be doable during a respec if it were ever allowed, since you'd still be able to slot IOs but would be forced to sell all your SOs and DOs. Not sure what to do about the rest.
But...magic tasers!
There are a number of "unchangable" things I'd like to see us be able to change.
For instance... When selecting the buff pet for my tech origin Robotics/traps mastermind who's origin story states she's a former MIT student.... my arm slipped and I clicked on the Wisp Pet instead of the Drone pet. It bugs me.
Do I use it anyway? Yes.
Do I really wish I could change it? YES!
Anyway... there are a lot of things we can't change that I really really wish we could.
Origin, height, and vet powers are all on that list for me.
Character height isn't actually stored and regarded like just another slider. In fact, it's not height at all, it's scale - a multiplier on a bunch of parameters that defines how BIG your character is without altering any proportions. That's why female and male models are not equally tall for the same values of the "height" slider.
The height slider is responsible for a great many things, chief among which is giving the character rig its dimensions and defining where certain... Things show up when you use powers. Some props and effects are indeed locked onto skeleton joints, such as how custom weapons are attached to the arms and follow the wrist's direction. Others, however, are not, and the easiest example of those are the various temporary jet packs, which have an absolute distance off the character's "middle." Some effects are furthermore animated to mimic model movement, but not actually attach to the model itself.
All the rest of the sliders are purely cosmetic. They're just different weights for certain parts of the model, but they don't affect the skeleton at all. The Leg slider does appear to affect the skeleton only cosmetically, as I don't believe it elongates the leg bones so much as it extends the feet PAST the ends of the bones. That's why characters with longer legs will sometimes cross their legs and bend their feet in an awkward, distorted manner. Make a long-legged female and do the typical leg-cross sit to see what I mean.
Why it's not changeable, I can't say. However, it's not nearly as trivial to fiddle with it as it is to fiddle with the rest of the sliders. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say because it's hard-written in several different places, or because it's written in a place that cannot be altered freely. In any event, it's a good idea that's often suggested, but the Developers have so far refused to even comment on it. The one comment I have was a third-person off-hand from a developer at a player event, which I probably should stop spreading around, because it's likely false or at least inaccurate. Suffice it to say that I would LOVE to alter the height of some of my characters, and I would LOVE not having to sweat over getting my height perfect at character creation because I know I won't be able to touch it again ever.
Samuel_Tow is the only poster that makes me want to punch him in the head more often when I'm agreeing with him than when I'm disagreeing with him.

/unsigned. I also feel like the devs have far better things to do with their time.
And regardless of what LISAR thinks, that's perfectly valid reason to disagree with an idea.
I'd like to address an idea that's been running thru my head for awhile now.
I wonder about the possibility of being able to go back and correct mistakes made during character creation.
For instance, on a few occasions I've made toons and selected an origin for their powers, only to have the character develop in such a way that when I write up a bio for them, I realize that I've chosen the wrong origin.
I guess it doesn't seem like a big deal, but as I often RP it just bugs me that my backstory isn't consistent with my character details. Perhaps you could offer a one time token for a change with the completion of a mission arc or even a small fee.
Along the same line is the issue of character height. I can change scale if I realize later that I've made a mistake of some sort, but I've got several toons where I've just realized after the fact that they are too tall or too short.
You obviously have a reason for not allowing people to change this at the tailor, so would it be possible again to charge a small fee to have this changed once by you folks?
