Quote:Rofl!Issue 20 has a signed NDA because the new uber-incarnate AV is a Superman clone wearing a starfleet uniform and Defender's helmet, wielding a lightsabre with a droid sidekick named Conan-D2 who tosses "meuxhawk bombs" at enemies. Defeating him unlocks the temp power "Wolverine's Claws" and allows you to use fatalities but only if you dress *exactly* like Chun-Li. Superman comes from a planet split in two which ran out of energon. His faction symbol is the Eye of Sauron and he summons Eldar Avatar mastermind pets that can transform into bi-planes but they only fly for 30 seconds before falling out of the sky in disgust.
Completing his task force earns you the "Sued by Everyone" badge, the Metallica emote and a Mickey Mouse non-combat pet. -
Quote:You have a good point. Not all Villains can be chaotic and of Rogues like all they are a lot of types. Not all Vigilantes/Anti-Heroes are the same too. It is obvious there are a lot of types of every faction and he was just trying to put it in the simple way which it was good depending on the person but we all have our own opinions.Actually, I could not disagree more. Specifically, the characterization of all Villains as Chaotic Evil smacks of applying a shoe-horn to find a place to list the last two alignments of the CoH/V and D&D categories not already mentioned.
All villains do not fit cleanly in the Chaotic Evil alignment. If Rogue covers Neutral Evil (and I think that's an overly restrictive of Rogue, too), I believe there is plenty of room for Villains to be Lawful Evil. There are plenty of examples villains who espouse strong loyalty to order and tradition while heartlessly striking down innocents to enforce order and tradition through fear and oppression. Edit: Just because Recluse might fit Chaotic Evil, it is not reasonable to cast all villain motivations based on his image.
On the matter of Rogues, while I do think that Neutral Evil does fit Rogues, I also feel that Chaotic Neutral and even (True) Neutral fit. Just because you're breaking the law, and even if you're willing to break your word, it doesn't mean you're willing to harm innocents. In fact, the Rogue Morality mission has you risk absolutely overwhelming punishment (attacking an Aribiter is usually like ordering a death sentence with a side of torture) to spare the lives of innocent bystanders, when you could just take the job and be paid.
Edit 2: As I think about it, the same thing applies to heroes. All heroes are not Lawful Good. Basically I think this effort at alignment categorization ran aground when it tried to keep Primal and Praetorean "alignments" distinct. They aren't, and so there should be overlap.
In the Rogue morality mission which is my favorite along the Vigilante one, i think our characters act more as pure Neutral almost going to Good than Neutral evil. Han Solo is a perfect example of redemption and you can see other bounty hunters/assassins that can fit into neutral evil and others more into neutral and neutral good. Another example for me Poison Ivy was never a Villain, i put her more into the neutral type, others will disagreed with me.
What i like of Praetoria is the control we can have over the storyline and the choosing sides fits into different categories, contrary as for City of Villains which a lot of us wanted Matthew Burke to be our first contact to be the Mercenary/Rogue/Bounty Hunter type but now that is possible for us. This thread is more than interesting and i hope to see more different opinions about this. -
Quote:I really like your descriptions and they can't be more accurate.I'll bring this back from a post I made during GR beta:
Heroes -> Lawful Good: A Lawful Good character typically acts with compassion, and always with honor and a sense of duty.
Vigilantes -> Neutral Good: A Neutral Good character is guided by his conscience and typically acts altruistically, without regard for or against Lawful precepts such as rules or tradition. A Neutral Good character has no problems with co-operating with lawful officials, but does not feel beholden to them.
Resistance/Warden -> Chaotic Good: A Chaotic Good character favors change for a greater good, disdains bureaucratic organizations that get in the way of social improvement, and places a high value on personal freedom, not only for oneself, but for others as well. They always intend to do the right thing, but their methods are generally disorganized and often out of alignment with the rest of society.
Loyalist/Responsibility -> Lawful Neutral: A Lawful Neutral character typically believes strongly in Lawful concepts such as honor, order, rules and tradition, and often follows a personal code. A Lawful Neutral society would typically enforce strict laws to maintain social order, and place a high value on traditions and historical precedent.
Civilian -> Neutral: This alignment represents Neutral on both axes, and tends not to feel strongly towards any alignment. A farmer whose primary overriding concern is to feed his family is of this alignment.
Resistance/Crusader -> Chaotic Neutral: A character of this alignment is an individualist who follows his or her own heart, and generally shirks rules and traditions. Although they promote the ideals of freedom, it is their own freedom that comes first.
Loyalist/Power -> Lawful Evil: Characters of this alignment see a well-ordered system as being easier to exploit, and show a combination of desirable and undesirable traits; while they usually obey their superiors and keep their word, they care nothing for the rights and freedoms of other individuals and are not averse to twisting the rules to work in their favor.
Rogue -> Neutral Evil: Characters of this alignment are typically selfish and have no qualms about turning on their allies-of-the-moment. They have no compunctions about harming others to get what they want, but neither will they go out of their way to cause carnage or mayhem when they see no direct benefit to it. They abide by laws for only as long as it is convenient for them.
Villain -> Chaotic Evil: Characters of this alignment tend to have no respect for rules, other people's lives, or anything but their own desires, which are typically selfish and cruel. They set a high value on personal freedom, but do not have any regard for the lives or freedom of other people. -
True that is good but it can get better
(in my opinion) i have not met too much trolls for now but it is good to have funny ones here. As very usual i can't agree with you in all but thanks in the past for your ice blaster guide. As for the Twixt subject if there is a side that i can't talk about is the very close one since i was not in PVP that day, the others are things that i have experience and compared them. Very bad that both sides got out of the line.
After, CoX is my MMO and will always be. Nothing gonna change that and in every place there is a dysfunctional family -
Quote:Dr: Mechano,If you think what you've experienced here is bad...well I must say you really haven't experienced the worst forums that MMOs can offer.
Remember the fact Blizzard were threatening the whole Real ID thing because they realised their forums are a complete mess? Openly hostile to new players asking question, generally rude and what useful information there is on there was buried under a ton of crap. It is seen as the worst gaming forum on the internet and Blizzard had to threaten to reveal players names because they thought that was the only way to clean up its image.
The Eve online forums are...strangely civil for a game where griefing is seen as part of the gameplay but I think thats because the game has a learning curve that curves so hard it turns into an overhang. Even there you will still get big arguements.
I won't even get started on the CO, AoC or the many unofficial WAR forums, the APB forums while the game was running were equally terrible.
Generally these forums are on par with the Eve forums, civil discussion happens.
The 'Twixt' story he went out of his way to antagonise as many people as he possibly could IIRC and generally acted like a [censored] all under the banner of 'scientific research' most of which was absolute bupkiss anyway with him skewing the results as he saw fit.
Lets take the guy who posted his video review of CoH/GR, the guy made an ungodly number of errors in it, had clearly 'not done the research' and while he asked for opinions, when people pointed all that out he got incredibly defensive and wouldn't admit he was in the wrong.
So don't act so heartwounded by a simple disagreement from other people.
Am I interested in DCUO?
No.
It has a COish art-style and much like CO is focusing on trying to be a console port (press Z to talk to a contact instead of just click on them? Really CO?). It has the whole WoW 'costumes as gear' element which just sucks in an MMO where customisation is key and generally doesn't look like a good MMO, I've played enough bad ones to spot a 'meh' one (I've played all the MMOs I've listed above, WAR, AoC, WoW, CO and attempted to play Eve but just couldn't get my head around it, Eve isn't bad just completely newbie unfriendly) .
The new Final Fantasy MMO is accused of this and according to all reviews it is basically a really, really awful console port.
I agree with you when it comes to the City of Heroes GR video review you are right and about the other game forums which i have hear about with people who play there. There is one thing i can't accept you is the i am acting heart wounded. I am just telling my opinion and because in other forums is that way, we can make a thing better hereso nothing new when it comes to someone telling what they feel. For you is heart wounded, for me is not accepting it but respecting all of the other users opinions.
I have played WoW in the past and to be honest it was not for me. I don't know if Cataclysm will change that but for that, i must try it. I still have not try Eve online but looks a little interested to me. CO i did not like it and there is no way for me to trying it again. I love the Final Fantasy games and along with the Zelda series are my favorites but their MMO's has never catch my attention thanks to a lot of other things and the one you already mentioned.
I know about the research of Twixt and what i agree with him it does not have anything to do with this subject just like i said before but i have see very close attitudes in game like the ones his report mentioned.
So no matter what other game is good or not, that will not affect this great game. In some comments i see a lot of concern hidden under rough comments. In my case i am no longer concern since if CoX survived WoW over commercial sucess and survived all the new ones that come, why should DCUO be a threat? Learn to have more confidence in the game you like and to some users (not everyone in this thread) let's make a better community instead of throwing trash at each other. -
Quote:I admit i did annoyed at first but GG has the rights like all of us to say what she wants so no problem with that. I apologize for the ''air head'' comment. I like your post because in additional of neutral it is very fair. There are lots of open minded people here too and proof of that exists. I got a little up-set with Sam since he came with the ''you will not get far'' something that i am not looking here and that's why i took the time to answer him.In fairness Golden Girl was doing her usual passive-aggressive smiley thing. I don't blame people for getting annoyed with that style of posting. Telling someone to shut up but it's ok because you stuck a smilie on it, yeah I know it could be a joke. It could also be read as a dig (but wrapped up in a joke because Mr Smilie says it is).
In general sticking GG on ignore is the best option if you haven't developed your own internal filters for one-line smilies.
I don't particularly believe these forums are filled with closed-minded bigots either mind. I frequently give out about some aspects of this game, and myself and Sam frequently have arguments where we're on opposing sides. The difference is we've still got respect for each others point of view, even if we disagree with it personally.
We are all different and that is needed because it will be very boring if we were the same way. The important is just as you said, that no matter what is the difference in our opinions, we can respect each other.
I apologize for the things i said that got a little over the line and i hope this thread can go a little more positive -
My favorite Alignment in CoX. I wish they create stories for Vigilante missions in the Rogue Isles and for Rogues in Paragon City. I am looking for a Vigilante SG too, i hope we play in the same server.

Quote:Wow thanks for the details about your two Rachel's and Alan's. Sam Spade and Johnny Mnemonic!!! Velda and Alita!!! sure i remember them!!. Wow you have a good combination and great inspirations for your character backgrounds. I love the Evil Rachel flirt *laughs* i wish we can team-up one day and have a lot of fun.Thanks. What makes Rachel so fun is that her backstory is so tied to the "good" Rachel and her partner. Basically, my character's name is Alan Midnight, and he's a old school film noir type detective, but from the 26th century. So he's like Sam Spade meets Johnny Mnemonic. Rachel is like Mike Hammer's Velda or Hunter's Dee Dee McCall, crossed with Battle Angel Alita.
The two are a duo, they're intended to always be together, and complement each other. (He's a Devices Blaster, she's a tanking Scrapper)
They came to the 21st century to find out what was apparently changing their past, only to find that THEY were. An alternate Alan from an alternate 26th century went back to the past to investigate changes, and is trying to make HIS history happen. So they're the same, only the "evil" Alan is a Bots/Traps Mastermind, and Rachel is just the strongest of his six robot henchmen.
What makes it fun is that the good Rachel would be horrified by using a corpse as some sort of puppet. She also has this very flirtatious, good natured personality. (A sharp contrast to her claws and aggresive fighting style) The evil Rachel tries to flirt, but she's so robotic that it comes off as really, really creepy. She says things like, "Do you not like my body, <villain name>? I am calling you by name in order to entice you." I play her with an SG, so the reactions to her chat macros are always funny.
Getting back on the original subject, I've finally gone Rogue with my main Arachnophelia character, on Virtue. I'm still working on the Pinnacle version, who hasn't hit 20 yet, but I've definately decided to take her to Hero. For one thing, it'll give me an excuse to stick with her Wolf Spider uniform, she wants the Crab legs, really bad, she has this spider fetish, and joined Arachnos just to get the legs. But she'll leave Arachnos right after that and thus won't get the uniform, just sticking with her old one. Then I'll take her hero so she can be with my SG.
Also, someone else in the thread mentioned Kheldians, and I have DEFINATELY shifted both my Warshades to Nictus. It's somehow more fun to play them that way. You can revel in sucking the souls out of the dead bodies of your victims.I intentionally changed the name, costume and backstory of my Warshades, who were originally two different characters, to prepare them to go Nictus when GR came out. In short, he's a Nictus who was trying the Warshade path, but accidently bonded with a Skulls gangster he thought he was a hero. Corrupted by his new host, he's decided that the idea of bonding with willing hosts is a good one, but the other beings of the universe are still scum, and he should keep looking out for number one.
Now that you talk about your Warshades, i can't agree more with you in getting them into the Nictus path. I will start to construct their story since in my case it will be my Warshade and my Peacebringer.
Once again i am glad you have these characters that is very easy to see how you enjoy them. One of the best things that CoX have for us is giving us the opportunity to develop this stories and interact them in their game with other players. In that case, Virtue is the best server for this -
Quote:I must agree with you on this one. after taking some time reading past comments about DCUO. I personally love CoX too and if you ask me, i prefer CoX since it is not only my first payed MMO but it has been one of the hobbies that have give me a very great additional good times. We can call it the Father/Mother of customization and creativity.Im pretty sure DCU Online is going to be a great action based MMO game.
They have DC comics big boys for the histories and art.
And it will bring a lot of people to play it for sure. Devs are taking their time with that game.
Competition is good, you guys dont even tried that game and you are trolling against it just because you love CoX. I love CoX but theres no reason to be disrespectful with other games or devs.
I think that is an inmature behavior.
I must admit that the Dev team need to take a little more time to fix the plethora of bugs and other issues, but my hear is still with this game. I can't lie that i am not tempted to play DCUO and for what i can see, the game looks compromising to me. Sure it will be a little more commercial thanks to DC but good competition will give more reasons to take CoX to a new level.
I am very glad to find people who love CoX and does not fear to talk the positive things of the competition -
Once again i am so glad that this post still have life. It is good to see that some SoA are still in Arachnos side and with my Night Widow i will be doing the same so i can have a good balance.
So far i like all the character backgrounds that i have saw here. -
Signed,
Death emotes and AFK (laying down emotes) have been wanted a very long time ago just like Lothic have said before. In the past we had at least one additional death animations when our characters were defeated with an knockdown power. ¿does anyone remember if that was a bug? or now the bug is that even been defeated with a knockdown power, the characters die with the typical face down animation?
I have been asking myself that since my return. I hope we can get some creative animations or rag-doll physics for our characters. Something that i will feel free to pay is for a Carnie costme pack -
Sylph is a wise woman which joined Arachnos as a Wolf Spider before Lord Recluse was the leader. She have battle against other criminal organizations, super power heroes, alien invaders, gangs, artificial beings, there is not a thing on this Earth that Sylph has not battle.
Sylph took the path of the Crab Spider, she always have love to intimidate her enemies with the use of the beautiful Technology that she loves. After a long time she started to question Lord Recluse and Arachnos extreme actions. She started to do something that Arachnos will dislike the most, Sylph payed Vigilantes from Paragon City to target organizations which included the ones who are allies of Arachnos.
After she was Caught, she decided to battle against them, almost in the border line of death, she was saved by an large group of Wyvern which was one of her hidden allies.
Now Sylph is one of the most hated and feared Vigilantes in both the Rogue Isles and Paragon City. She does all that it takes to bring true justice to Paragon City and now she is planning an operative to re-construct the Rogue Isles. This will be Syplh's greatest challenge of all time. -
I like your Operative Rachel story background. I always think that no matter what is the limited origin choice to HEAT and VEAT, we can make them the way we want. Natural don't have to be an over training human, it can be the origin for beings from another planet and other race beings.
There is nothing better to have a counterpart for one of our most beloved characters.
Quote:The only VEAT I've managed to sideswitch so far is Operative Rachel, who has gone Rogue. She's the evil counterpart of a Claws Scrapper in my SG on that server, so I'm not going to switch her, but I wanted to show her to the folks in my SG since she's a variation on the character they know.
The fun part about her is that she's not at all loyal to Arachnos, she's an AI from the 26th century, brought here by a hacker, who is my Bots/Traps MM. She's one of his robots. I wrote as her backstory that an Arachnos Widow stumbled onto this MM and was killed by him. Being a bit of a sadistic kind of villain, he implanted her dead body with mind control chips, and downloaded Rachel's AI into her. He then sent her back into Arachnos to sabotage it. She's totally loyal to her boss, and both will be staying as Rogues.
I have another Huntsman who is my vigilante hero gone undercover. I haven't gotten him to 20 yet (I rushed Rachel there so I could switch her the moment the game came out) but once I do I'm taking him to Hero, and then Vigilante. He will have a Longbow uniform he can use when going undercover in that organization, but he also has his own costume as well. He's really neither a hero nor a villain, he distrusts both.
That leaves Arachnophelia, who is my main VEAT, a Crab Spider. I'm working on going Rogue with her, but I will probably stop there. I have another lower level version of her on the same server as Rachel, though, so I may decide to go hero with her as a balance. I'll have Huntsman Raynard as the hero and Arachnophelia as the villain on one server, and Arachnophelia as the hero and Rachel as the villain on the other. -
Quote:Very very niceArbiter Raiche got the hell out of town while the getting was good. Hes a vigilante in Paragon City giving the scum what fer as a gun totting badass.
i like it. I think that he will get along with Sylph very good. Sylph main targets are from Thugs to Super Power Villains and any Hero that stands in her way, will be a target too. Congratulations on your VEAT.

Very nice Turg
and yes i know you have a lot of Villains. My Crab, she is gonna be in a circle of changes for her character concept: Villain/Rogue/Hero/Vigilante and now since she has more of a Vigilante personality, i am still thinking if i turn Lady to the redside? I will have to make that decision very soon.
969! Congratulations once again :P -
962 and more to come?? right Mr. Turg? As soon my Crab Spider gets to 50 i will be joining you with her for some SF/TF. In my case for enjoyment and not badge hunting :P

I like all the character stories and backgrounds you have for your Arachnos Soldiers which became Rogue and Heroes. One of the things that Going Rogue has make me happy is the ability to do unique things like this come true.
Thank you all for sharing your the stories of your SoA in this post.
Long live SoA!!! -
I imagine this thread have been around before, i have not find it and i will like to see. I am planing to take my Crab Spider once i get her to level 50 to Rogue, Hero then Vigilante. It is the perfect concept for my crab spider character's background.
How many of you have take your own way and leave Arachnos to search fame and fortune? How many of you wanted to leave all the hostile life behind and became a real role model? or How many of you wanted to represent true justice taking the blood of the criminal scum in your own hands?
For me this will be very interesting and as for now, i never imagine myself to be so happy using epic archetypes in which i love the Kheldian shape-shifting but i must say that i preferred the Soldier of Arachnos. -
My condolences to all his family and loved ones. More than a Valiant and brave person to be were he was. Rest in peace and all of my respects to you. Best wishes for his family.

The first subject of names that i see in the Freedom server forums. I hope like Virtue and Infinity that this subject can continue on a regular basis.
Oh well in my case since they did not fit my character concepts, the following names are available:
Adel
Achiral
Porom
Names that i have checked and they are available:
Bartz
Lazara
Silf
Yun Fang
If you are interested in any of those, i hope they can fit your characters. -
First of all, you have very good music taste and there is nothing better to be yourself in music taste and in everything. 90% Percent of the music i listen to is non-commercial and for me is more interesting to listen to songs which have real art and realistic lyrics.
Since you like electronic, i can recommend you the following bands/groups:
The Cruxshadows
Covenant
Ladytron
Die Form
Cosmiccity
Robots in Disguise
VNV Nation
Ayria
Apoptygma Berzerk
Zombie Girl
This groups here consist from Electronic body music, Industrial, Future Pop, Intelligence dance music and you will note the eclectic touch in Die Form, Vnv Nation, Apoptygma Berzerk and Ayria.
I listen to most Neo Classical, Darkwave, Dark Cabaret, Ambient, Avant-Garde, New Age but maybe it is not your taste and i never have liked to base recommendations in what i like, instead in what the person likes.
Good luck in your search and their is a lot of good music out there. We must always make good and long searches to find it. -
What Steampunkette mentions remembers me that is time for new death animations for our characters. Something along some great ideas mentioned on this forum that will give more freshness to our game. The Ghoul death animations will be great and better to our zombie characters.

My two best favorites fan vides are the Avatar (CoH Style) and the Robot Rebellion!
