okay, so I plugged did some speccing and swapping in mids and came up with a build that I think would be better able to solo, but I'm getting some funky numbers, like -13.49 on my End Rec and 0/s on my End Use? Maybe it's just my copy of mids or something. Here's the build I put together:

Since I tried playing it.

Quote:Originally Posted by Jade_dragonWell, I don't usually look at Mids so I can't see what's wrong with your slotting. And in all honestly, I'm not the person to ask for advice on that stuff anyway. However, I might be able to give you an overview that might (just might, I'm not really sure what your playing style is) help you play Rad a little better.
Quote:Originally Posted by Jade_dragonFirst of all, as with all debuffing Defenders, the strength of the character is in preparing the battle field, and keeping your foes clustered and under your control. You can't just go in blasting like, well, a Blaster. In all honestly, I've only ever played Rad Emission as a Secondary, on a Controller, so I'm not sure what you would do in the absense of holds to keep foes locked in the Enervating Field. Rad Blast is not a control-heavy set, although it is very good at stunning and blasting a SINGLE target.
Quote:Originally Posted by Jade_dragonI would guess Lingering Radiation is the best place to start. The aggro drawn by the anchored debuffs help as well. It might help to circle around foes to herd them into a group. Electron Haze may also help keep foes off their feet and knock them back into the center. In a group, of course, if you've got a tank you can wait until he draws all the foes around him, then drop your anchors on a suitable target. Of course, then you've got the hassle of allies killing your anchor, but you can either warn them with a keybind, or target a strong foe like the Boss, or even better a Lt nearby which isn't likely to be picked out as a threat.
Of your three debuffs (Enervating Field, Radiation Infection and Lingering Radiation) EF is the one that is going to be the primary. That's your damage boost, all RI does is make it easier to hit, and if you're to hit is capped you don't need it. Rad Blast has really high accuracy, though, with its -Def you can almost get away with not slotting it for Acc. I would recommend slotting the main attacks, the ones fired all the time (i.e. Neutrino) for Acc, and leave it off one or two of the most powerful attacks. You might want to slot Cosmic Burst for Acc because of it's reliability as a one shot stun, but it's up to you.
Finally, you have Accellerate Metabolism. EF can't be slotted for that -Res, but it's pretty good on its own, and then you have 25% more damage from AM. The Endurance boost also helps you keep your toggles up. So that definately needs three recharge, so it is up as often as possible. Don't forget to fire it, and fire it off often. You can do the team support thing and set a chatbind to "gather for AM", but frankly, you can do just as well by just firing it off whenever it recharges, when you're in combat.
That's really all I've got, hopefully someone else has more precise build suggestions. -
okay, so about 2 years ago I was working on a comic that was going to have Positron in it. In order to facilitate this project I rolled A rad/rad defender and got him PLed to 50 so I could grab all the rad powers from both sets. Well, the comic got dropped and I now have a totally sucky defender. Seriously, it can't even kill a -4 underling solo. I tried. Well, he's been sitting in my toons list ever since. I think I've pulled it out to use like twice. Bottom line: I hate playing this toon. but, I'm somewhat less enthusiastic about deleting a 50, even if it was always meant to be a throw away. So I'm gonna give it one more shot. I've got 20-some respec tokens sitting on him, about 1.2bil in Inf and close to 300 merits sitting in his pockets. I'm wondering if I can get some help in respecing him out so, I donno. He might actually be worth more then the sum of the change in my pocket? Here's whats on his build right now:
Code:I'm sure once you look at the build the first thought that will go through your mind will be something to the tune of "What was this idiot smoking?" Well, lemme save ya the trouble. It wasn't the good stuff. I never had any intention of actually playing this toon before when I rolled it, and I'm not totally sure I'll play it now. But I want to give it a fair chance before I condemn it to the bowls of deletion. So what should I do with this build to make it at least somewhat viable?| Copy & Paste this data into Mids' Hero Designer to view the build | |-------------------------------------------------------------------| |MxDz;1412;615;1230;HEX;| |78DAA5935B6F125110C7CF7291722FC5D2BB0B546C9116DBF8E2E5A1A6A52626D61| |0243EA96485036CC485C01A8BF70FE057F08318DFBC3E7B8BFA6970E6CC80BB9137| |37F0FF9D9DF39F993D67F71C1D972242BCDC135AECA0630C06B5926C4AAB21FBA1A| |AACB7AD6EA7DB1A8A8010223D9EA8ED3F6C368B15A3611AB6D9B56A870FCCC10006| |FAC45031AC966C382CFB50D94E5CB3DAB22F2DBB381E84CBDD6EA778B563B6DA768| |4C6A66DC9C120A46E6EF6A46CCCA961557664AFDBB755B9C461CFAC174B46FF7EED| |08EACAFE70119E2F0FFF471EC1D7C82B4A9A101BC27340D853F05D51F8F2D7E717E| |FE06657F8DE2B9CF840F8A830F399F049E11854E3EA5A4660285420E80A11C2107C| |5EF679C91021C41823B8C463B0F9C9E6F153B9D982134FC010E0A70C5068CE85936| |9275284AF9015A42C5F909691A6EABBFA147C0347989B84699D299A59746139E3C4| |773046392B4A59ABE4639C62649C780AC638AF388E2BF379453AE1E633F024C8231| |23995F60342496E96A4BA99695857DB4A1A84F2F39C33BF4ED384D38C8C13670861| |C85AE0E60BAACE73E8BDC491A5F3CAF413422B5C7AC595CED8D0A7C00FA5D7342AB| |4A64A0720A27344579119886429E2C9D2DBCCBBF00B5AE7B8758E9AE5A9FC593768| |6E8B3E93DF90B5C9599BBCCD5B82E9276E8FC9AF659B4EC50BD002A56A05AA768E9| |0056391DF65D135C3C8816187776E8742ABBEC9B1831FAEF8FA3F91B26F72C884A6| |2237D043BBF25FD79BC8B857B01202ADA294516EA1DC46B9837217C540B98752471| |9BD9D64C72FE0035D44B9847219E5159A027890C2281194284A0C258E328B924449| |A12CA3BC4619FD01B3E3061C| |-------------------------------------------------------------------|

I've got several Canon based costumes on various toons. Right now I only have images of two of 'em:
This one's my scrapper. His back story is that he actually was one of the Praefecti to support Romulus in his coup agianst Imperious believing that Cimerora needed a strong leader to protect it from its' enemies. (Check out arc 3290 for the full story)
Longbow officer/Ballista. Nuff said. -
Oh I've had a couple of said "WTH" Moments. One of my personal favorites:
Yes, I got my butt kicked by a no-armed Freakshow boss. I figure my toon was in too much shock from the image of a No-arms Freak Show Tank charging at me to fight properly. -
I play nearly exclusivly red side and I frequently have to turn down team invites.

Quote:Actually it would be her Great-uncle. Miss Liberty founded Freedom Corp, Ms. Liberty founded the Longbow branch of it.Well, it's known that Ms Liberty is all about "Second Chances", hence The Regulators. It has been quoted that Ms Liberty believes that her Uncle Stefan Richter aka Lord Recluse CAN be brought over to the good side.
hmmm.... I wonder if Ms. Liberty had a daughter what addition to Freedom Corp would she found? Assassins maybe? -
the first one is some kind of creepy. Could you imagine Reichsman's face when he get p0wned by the cast of Alice in Wonderland?
Riechsman: "The bunny.... the bunny... he did something... and then the hat did this thing.... it was with a tea bag.... OH DEAR GOD! I'll never be able to Un-see it all! The Horror!" -
Not really sure if this belongs in this section, but it's closest thing I could figure out. I've started studying php coding and decided to actually use a little of it to make something. In this case, a theme for Word Press. You can see the theme working here on my test blog.
Basically I tried to emulate the CoH website with some modifications for blog purposes. Over all it works. There are a couple things I want to fix, and also add. Right now the theme is pretty basic and doesn't support a lot of things. But I'll be making improvements as I learn more.
If you want to grab the theme for your own blog, you can download it here. -

Quote:Taken from Paragonwiki.com:
"Viewed by Recluse as a mere annoyance, the Longbow units slowly hope to establish control over the many contested islands just off the coast of Paragon City. With well-established bases in Warburg, Siren's Call, and Bloody Bay, the Longbow wage a war for control over the precious resources of these isles. Extending beyond these contested regions, Longbow agents in their signature red and white costumes can be found on all of the Rogue Islands, ever vigilant for any sign of villainy that they might destroy."
yeah I've read that. It's kinda half-supporting my point while not supporting it, ya know what I mean? I was kinda hoping for some measure of clarification. -

I don't care who you were before, or who you think you are now. I've been fighting the Rikti way to long to be beaten by them now. Niv, Ocho, Avatea, fight me and you loose. Stand aside and you will not be harmed. But I AM taking down Hro'Dtohz and ending this war!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled Forum antics. -
There's something I would like to know, Why have a Longbow base in Nerva? I mean I understand why it's there versus Cap or St. Martial or something with the whole thing of the Nerva area not formally being a part of the Rogue Isles, but why have a major base in the Isles in the first place? It strikes me as Ms.Liberty just daring Recluse, or anyone else in the isles for that matter, to attack it and then give Longbow free reign to retaliate and take Arachnos apart.
-
so I used some photoshop magic and dis a quick work up. Not sure if it works for my purposes or not. What do you all think?

It's been a pleasure working with ya 8, good luck with what ever life throws your way.

Quote:You're going to hate me when I say that in order to make him a bit more recognizable, I'd expect to see the crazy hair to say "Is that Manticore?"
well, can't say that's what I wanted to hear, but I don't hate you for saying it. Maybe I can add some Vanguard material to the standard Manticore look. Chest plate and shoulder guards maybe... -
okay, I'm working on a fan comic and I've run into 2 glitches.
1) in this story, Manticore has joined up with Vanguard. So I need a way to show that. I tried making a toon that looks like Manticore with out the head dress an in a Vanguard uniform:
But I just don't see Manticore in there. I don't want to default to just using the normal image cause part of the reason he joins Vanguard in this story is he believes what he (and the rest of the Phalanx was doing) and lead to the situation in the story (Namely the Rikti having taken control of the earth during a third invasion). I tried looking at Gausian, Serpent Drummer, Borea, Dark Watcher and Leventure for a direction and came up pretty empty. With the exception of Dark Watcher none of them actually wear anything that identifies them as members of Vanguard and in Dark Watchers Case he's wearing a trench coat over the uniform. So, any suggestions on that one?
And the second snag is actually a bit more open ended. The opening sequence of the comic is a basically a voice over of the main character as he walks through the base and notes how things have changed due to the invasion. In one panel he says "It's been over a month since we joined forces with the refugees from the Rogue Isles" (Ya know taking the whole Hero and villians fighting the Rikti a step further). But what sort of image can I have there that shows that? When I originally wrote this story I had an image in mind, and I can remember thinking it worked well but for the life of me I can't remember what the image was. So I'm turning to you guys for suggestions and ideas. -
Quote:on terms of nothing but personal choice, yeah I would agree with you about the hard edges shadow versus a soft edges shadow. But something I noticed in Frozen Death's contrasted image, if I kept the highlights as sharp as they were, and brought the surrounding light down to the accompanying level, the final image looked like Gaussian was in a back room plotting his take over of Vanguard or something. Which, coincidentally is the exact opposite of what I have in mind for him in the story. So I guess I over corrected too much for my original over-correction... anyone else drawing a bad pendulum image from all this?Well, with the second one, you kind of diluted the shadows too much, which causes you to lose the dimensionality of the piece.
I commented on the first one because I thought it was actually better at defining the shape of him, aside from the minor things like the size of the figure shadow and such.
Also, I personally like the hard-edged shadows better than fuzzier ones, but that's maybe a stylistic thing.
Edit: This edit actually has nothing to speccificlly do with the whole thing about understanding lighting on the image. But I just realized why I've been having such a monumentally hard time editing the image of Gaussian (But not the back ground mind you). I've been upscaling the original screen caps to 300 DPI with a resized canvas before I go through and start the line art work. Well.... somewhere along the line I goofed with the Gaussian image. See, I apparently added an extra 0 in the DPI field... so I've been editing the image at 3,000 DPI versus 300... um yeah... learn from my mistake all artists. Pay attention to your fields! -
running a WM/WP brute myself. Got him to 50, and am now working on his ubber build to make him even more heinous. I can already deal with 18-20 individual minions with out much consern. When Dealing with large groups, the Crowd Control becomes a god send as it allows me to knock down basically the first row of baddies that are closest to me and gives me a brief second to assess the situation. Bottom line: Lot of fun to play and it just keeps getting better.
-
Quote:Yeah, I'd call that an accurate statement. But hey, the good news is that since I know what I don't know, I know what I need to learn.I think the overall problem you're currently having is one of understanding light, which is really the primary thing that you need for drawing.
Quote:Imagine the light as a bunch of arrows coming from the holo-projector. (Observe my l33t MSPaint example):
If you put imaginary lines from your lightsource and trace them to the object, you can figure out how the shadows should fall. (This is literally where the term ray-tracing comes from in 3D graphics.) As well, you have to remember that the further you are from a lightsource, the more fuzzy and dispersed a shadow will be.
So, the shadow behind him should be larger than he is, and the part on what I think is a far wall should be more diffused than the part behind his butt on the closer half-wall, and so on, with his arm, ouches, shoulderpads, etc.
You're really doing quite well so far, but I think maybe some of this is more on an unconscious level right now and you need to think it through a bit.
And, of course, things are always more tricky in a fully 3D space like your image, as opposed to mine, which is 2.5D at best.
