You're going to hate me when I say that in order to make him a bit more recognizable, I'd expect to see the crazy hair to say "Is that Manticore?"

well, can't say that's what I wanted to hear, but I don't hate you for saying it. Maybe I can add some Vanguard material to the standard Manticore look. Chest plate and shoulder guards maybe...
so I used some photoshop magic and dis a quick work up. Not sure if it works for my purposes or not. What do you all think?
okay, I'm working on a fan comic and I've run into 2 glitches.
1) in this story, Manticore has joined up with Vanguard. So I need a way to show that. I tried making a toon that looks like Manticore with out the head dress an in a Vanguard uniform:
But I just don't see Manticore in there. I don't want to default to just using the normal image cause part of the reason he joins Vanguard in this story is he believes what he (and the rest of the Phalanx was doing) and lead to the situation in the story (Namely the Rikti having taken control of the earth during a third invasion). I tried looking at Gausian, Serpent Drummer, Borea, Dark Watcher and Leventure for a direction and came up pretty empty. With the exception of Dark Watcher none of them actually wear anything that identifies them as members of Vanguard and in Dark Watchers Case he's wearing a trench coat over the uniform. So, any suggestions on that one?
And the second snag is actually a bit more open ended. The opening sequence of the comic is a basically a voice over of the main character as he walks through the base and notes how things have changed due to the invasion. In one panel he says "It's been over a month since we joined forces with the refugees from the Rogue Isles" (Ya know taking the whole Hero and villians fighting the Rikti a step further). But what sort of image can I have there that shows that? When I originally wrote this story I had an image in mind, and I can remember thinking it worked well but for the life of me I can't remember what the image was. So I'm turning to you guys for suggestions and ideas.
