  1. Yeah I hope this is a quick one - this is sorta prime time for a lot of people.

Oh, well. I'll go play Whack-A-Rat for awhile.
  2. Me, too. And I'm not happy.

I'm an advanced user and I know how to troubleshoot. And I know how to obtain and post the data that is customarily used by the experts here to help people get their bugs fixed. And I really appreciate that people are willing to help.

Trouble is, this has always been a crashy game and it doesn't help that the builds change regularly. Sometimes they work for me 100%, and the next one comes by and breaks it. I just today realized that, although I enjoy the game very much, I'm no longer willing to put the effort into getting it to work that it seems to require.

It's not my rig. It runs everything else, including apps that are much more demanding from a 3D standpoint, without breaking a sweat or dipping below 30 fps.

Anyway, I'll try it again after the release of i19 - which is a large part of the problem, I suspect - but if it doesn't become much more stable very soon I'm inclined to move on.

Please spare the flames - this is for the devs. If other players have the time and energy to make it work and it's still fun for you, best of luck and more power to you. But I suspect that I'm not the only one reaching the breaking point with this i19 fiasco.

A Zeus can be tough but Hercs have always seemed fairly normal. Harder to kill than a typical LT due to the resist but not overly dangerous. Step out of the burn patch and keep pounding.
Hercs I had seen and they are no sweat at all. These were the first Zeuses I had run into - two orange ones standing together. I tried the old take-down-one-come-back-later tactic but made almost no dent on the Zeus I was beating on and then couldn't move away when I was ready to scoot.

Later, after getting the advice of the previous posters, I had no trouble with the orange pair of Zeuses and handily beat the red Zeus. I guess I didn't notice the mez or burn patch the first time because there were an awful lot of those &@$% missiles flying and I lost my situational awareness.
  4. Post-action report: Dancing like a butterfly and stinging like a bee, I took down the orange Zeus's with almost no damage and took down a red one without pulling out all the stops. Standing still was my problem.

    Thanks again, you guys rock.
  5. D'oh! No, it's Martial Arts. Fixed that.

Therer was a fair-sized mob behind him; maybe I did get whacked by a Sapper that I didn't see. Also, didn't know about the burn or mez patches. I did stand still, and he did beat the snot out of me, so I'll try it again with better footwork.

    Thanks much for the help.
  6. My lvl 42 scrapper met his first orange-conned Hercules Titan last night and found himself in the hospital about 45 seconds later. My scrapper is a MA/Inv build, pretty well slotted. I used all the defensive buffs and inspirations I had before engaging it but I scarcely made a dent.

Is there any way for the solo scrapper to kill these things?

Mission Transporter is great, I use it occasionally, but the very slow recharge rate has prompted me to seek other transportation solutions, and most of my toons have a base with enough transporters to allow me to get anywhere pretty quick. But you're right, it is a good solid bonus-pack power that I overlooked.
  8. I like two of the auras and would use them on a few of my toons. That's enough plus-side for me to buy this pack without any qualms about its value.

This is a better product than the Party Pack - more content, a more popular type of content, and, as far as I can tell, all new material. The lack of a booster power is no deal-breaker for me because the only really valuable one so far has been Ninja Run - and that one was so valuable that it should really have been offered to everyone to avoid imbalance.

So, GJ devs and marketing. Base items pack, please?

edit: OMG I think that I just agreed with Nethergoat111!!!
  9. I tested it all day today with no crashes. This was a definite fix. Whoever compiles the known fix stickies should add this one.
  10. Man, I think I fixed it.

The AO/AA combo was not a problem because I don't have an ATI graphics card, but the suggestion to check for sound driver updates led me to this: my motherboard and sound card are notoriously incompatible.

My mobo is an EVGA nVidia 790i that is SLI-capable. My sound card is a Creative Labs PCI Express X-Fi Titanium Fatali1y Pro. If you have that combination and have been experiencing instability in CoX and Steam games in general, do a search for (790i and Fatal1ty) and read up on the longstanding problems when the two are used in combination.

It turns out that Creative released new drivers for this soundcard series on 7-7-2010. In the readme file, under "known issues," the docs refer to sound stuttering experienced with some hardware combinations and highly-demanding 3D graphic applications. My bluescreen crashes have generally been accompanied by a loud, continuous noise, indicating to me that the sound card/mobo conflict could be the source of my crashing.

Creative has a hotfix that requires applying a registry patch. There's a link to the hotfix in the "known issues" section of the new sound driver docs. I've been working on this issue for almost a year so I tried it - and it seems to have worked. Not a single crash on coh today despite having played over four hours straight. I'll give it a few days and report back, but I think I found the magic bullet for my problems.

Thanks for the help and suggestions - now help me keep my fingers crossed for a few days!
  11. OK turning AO off and checking for Creative Labs driver updates.
  12. Still crashing with newest video drivers.
  13. I have the same problem. Random crashes, lockups, and bluescreens, only on CoH and Steam apps. Everything else runs fine. I'm stumped. Here's my CoH Helper file. I humbly beg assistance.

    Silver Bullet

I was hunting Vampiri and Warwolves for the Atlas Accolade last night. I had only killed about 20 or so of each when I saw another player doing the same thing. We teamed and had both badges in about half an hour.

Best hunting for Vampiri is on Striga Isle, between the east side of the Bog and the west wall of the Council Base. Vampiri only come out at night, so hunt Vampiri until dawn, switch to Warwolves until nightfall, rinse and repeat.
  15. YAY! Some of my characters are so broke that I've been forced to slot them with S&H Green Stamps and smiley stickers.
  16. Slightly OT but - with so many age 40+ players, are there any Super Groups especially for us oldsters? If there are, who do I see for an invite?
  17. 57 here. Love Silver Age comics. Have played miniature wargames since the 1960's and computers are even better. I like the interaction with the players - generally a very nice group, many spectacularly helpful and friendly people. The only rudeness I've encountered is from some whelp who deduced from my use of complete sentences and general lack of 1337 that I was somewhat older than the norm and proceeded to mock me as @ 01d d00d lol wtf 111!!!

At least I don't have to worry about whether my Mom will keep letting me use her credit card!
  18. I don't have a toon on Infinity but I'll make one to help you get your alts into your solo SG. Friday and weekends are good. Pick a time and I'll be there.

I don't want an IO but I would appreciate you doing the same deal for me with my alts on Freedom.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try putting up an invite on Thursday for a Friday respec trial and see what I get.
  20. I want to do the Terra Volta Respec trial this weekend, and that means I need at least more three dedicated heroes committed to finishing the mission. My toon is a lvl 27 MA/INV Scrapper. I've never done a trial before so I will yield leadership to those more experienced if any are interested. I'm available for extended periods on Friday Saturday and Sunday/ Spetember 18, 19, and 20.

    Any takers?
