  1. Thanks for posting this! I kept hearing references to the UStream but couldn't find the actual link anywhere.

Sorry. I'm going to pull the "I have a life" card. I have other games I can play, I have things to make, chores to do. I can easily fill those 30 hours with just as rewarding things as playing the game. I didn't even notice one of those downtimes, because the game is not the only thing I spend my time on, and I'm not even employed at the moment. And also, most of the downtimes have been in 12+ hour blocks of time, no? So you mean to tell me in those 12+ hours you would have played every single hour? Because otherwise your arguments for how long each downtime took are pretty silly. Most people play an hour or two, and then get off. So that "30+ hours" turns into "I was inconvenienced for about 2-4 hours of my time, if that but I demand FULL compensation for how long the entire downtime was, even if I didn't use the time". Please tell me you can understand why that sounds silly.

This is a company, not a magical fairy land where nothing goes wrong. It's just like every other company. I'm not going to storm a grocery store I pay a membership fee to and demand money back for being closed 6-8 hours every night (or more) because it's not available for me to shop in, thus 'wasting' my membership money. I either wait, or shop elsewhere. And yes, it is applicable. Brick and mortar stores close to restock and revamp. Employees need time off. They are doing the online equivalent. This is the single most ridiculous reason for wanting a compensation I have ever heard of, and I've worked in customer service for over 10 years, so that's a whole lot of dumb reasons I can remember.

It's a dollar because that's what two days are worth. That's the end of the story. If it's $15 dollars a month, and months average out to about 30 days, that's .50 a day. So yes, your time in game is worth a dollar. So yes, the 'proper compensation' for your 'troubles'* is a dollar. Just because you're paid more at your job doesn't make your free time worth anything.

*Oh first world troubles, will you ever get old?

I'm actually curious, if they're this upset over a dollar, what do they do when something that's actually bad happens? And don't forget, if they buy more then a month at a time, or use certain time cards, it's even less then a dollar.

It does, as Crazy1Van also pointed out.

And in addition to physically moving servers, they dropped us an Issue and are releasing an all new system within a system (F2P and Premium accounts) which are HUGE and came out strangely smoothly, despite the downtime.

Also? Two days. Really. The OP is arguing about two days? And that's a giant inconvenience? Holy ...wow. The world does not work like perfectly maintained and oiled clockwork. There's a reason Murphy's Law exists. Because unexpected things happen all the time.

I paid for 30 days service, not 28 days.
You want them to refund you two days worth of service when you at most pay only $15 a month per account? What's that, a dollar?

Like this? Given most of the only active threads are people forming TFs at the moment, that seems a low blow to the people currently active in this server's forum.

Per actual issue of thread--it's relevant, seeing as people are still rejoining to check out the new content and may be upset that 'their' name is taken on another server. It is within the rules, and personally, I like the rules. Roll new toons, try out different ideas. I've had the chance a couple times to see what people have done with 'my' names of alts I've released, and honestly, it's really cool.

Anyone griefing in game will be banned for griefing, making the worry of Belle pointless. The person couldn't 'become' Belle on the forums unless Belle's account got hacked, which wasn't the case. Belle's reputation wouldn't be harmed no matter what.

Feel free to give me more things to add to my list.
By that logic, to be fair, you're "wasting" 7.50 a month paying for a sub for this game, since that money goes both red and blue side. You're technically "wasting" even more if you like playing grey side content. While you can avoid these arcs and that's not a problem, that's a silly argument to be making. If you're going to play these arcs multiple times, it doesn't matter whether or not it gives you access on one side or another, you're still using the money you spent.

I admit, I ran through it on a tank in the 20's range to see what the fuss was about. My tank, she's not built for optimization, and it hurt. A lot. It would have been much better gameplay if I had waited til I outleveled the content (til 24 or SOs--I only IO at high levels, and sometimes not then), then exemped down. Having run through it, I wouldn't pay for it if it became pay-only. It's not that the effects aren't nice, and the story is ok, but it could be better. The setting gave more of an 'epic' feel then the storyline did. I simply wasn't convinced why this random Lost dude was suddenly interested in talking to me, nor was I convinced I should be helping him until the final mission, and even then, it was...sudden. I feel like there should be another mission in there that gives more depth, or rewrite the content so it has a bigger 'feel' then it does. Maybe a mission where you help on a Lost raid grabbing the contact? Or a mission arc before this one introducing the idea the Freedom Phalanx is in trouble, but that one is free to everyone, so it kind of explains what the heck is going on here, and gives incentive to explore this arc.

I understand there are other games that cost more, and I also understand from what others are saying that the con costumes perhaps contributed to this pricing. But seriously? No.

Let's just compare it to other costume sets, shall we? You get...the shoulder parrot and the aura. Awesome. Or I can go buy any other costume set for just a bit under what this nonsense is, and get all new costume pieces! The organic armor one had over ten, unless I was so asleep I counted multiples of the same thing. Guess what, I already have characters who look just as piratey (if not more so) then this dude, and I can take a stealth power, use a green glowing aura and bam, free redo of this costume, and my stealth will still be useful. Yay! So glad we worked that out. Also, I can make both male and female characters with this system, instead of being locked into only males. Ohoh, and I can do this at any time. So the idea of this being a 'limited time only' thing is a joke. The only thing limited is the parrot. Granted, it's a super-powered parrot that kills one of your powers, but it's just a parrot, guys.

And it's not like I'm some curmudgeon about dropping extra money on this game--my husband put enough money into his two accounts to get all the enhancement slots because it'll make ALL of his gameplay more enjoyable. This negates an effective power in game, for goodness sake. I spend a frightening amount of my game time tinkering with costumes (I dropped for the organic armor set and the thunderstorm aura without blinking an eye, and plan for a shopping spree after Street Justice drops), and this is beyond a waste of money. The same goes for all the NPC costume sets (I want the Freak set, but not at the current price), but this one really takes the cake for ridiculous.

I'm going to respectfully disagree with you. I play City for FUN, not challenge. My life is not the easiest day to day, I don't log into a game for grinding out to a reward. I pal around, I set the regular missions to a difficulty that is 'challenging' but requires minimal trips to the hospital. I chat people up and play with costumes. I do occasional tfs and the like. I PUG when I can.

And the great part is since it's a MMO, not a closed system, you can have your in-game "challenges". You can grind as much as you want to get gear that 'excludes' me. And I can go play on builds that would make optimal players cry and have just as much fun. And not affect you, or your league at all. And that's awesome.

Tl;dr, your end game isn't my end game. And I've been playing this game since a couple months after launch, so I've had a long time to polish my 'end game content'. And despite what you say, the devs are still releasing content that makes my 'end game' better in addition to the high end things. Have you seen the new costume packs and mission content? It's pretty cool.
  13. I was distracted when it finally went live. However, once I noticed....yeah, that's about what it was like.

Taskforces and trials come to mind. Though City has always had more of an emphasis on leveling up multiple characters--hence all the character slots available to you. It's about the journey, not the end destination. I'd find more cheesy phrases to throw at you, but my brain ain't working right at the moment.

We do have enough variety that if you decide to stick around (hope you do, we do like new players, honest), you basically pick your own end game. I know people who play the market for hours, others who badge, others who only do task forces. It's all in what you like to do.
  15. The Digital You

Who are you most well known as in-game? I mean character, but maybe you have an inappropriate nickname, and that could be fun too.
Tiny Bolt back in the day. Though I was mostly recognized for being "That mohawk chick". Now, any of my support toons, I guess. Little Lady Luck, Speedy Ripper, Glowy Kitten. I have over a dozen of the things. I'm not really 'known' in game, at all, as far as I know, beyond my small friends list.

What have you been doing in-game lately?
Costume tweaking and soloing, mostly. Occasional pick up teams.

What do you enjoy the most in-game?
Costumes! The tfs are fun when I can get on them.

Praetoria, Mercy Island, or Atlas: Which is your preferred landing destination?
Mercy. Red-side as much as humanly possible, I've only been going blue-side to team lately.

How long have you been playing City of Heroes?
Couple months after launch? Long, long time. Lots of breaks in between though.

Why did you originally choose to play and/or stay on Infinity?
I liked the name, then fell in with a good sg who were pretty cool, and got stuck here. Please send food.

What are your plans for "Freedom"?
Playing the game as always. I may actually go through and slot characters now though!

    The Real You

    What is best in life?
When the husband and I can actually spend time together.

    What is your favorite movie?
Don't really watch movies, so we'll go with "Dark Knight".

    What is your favorite book?
The Bridge of Birds, by Gary Hughart! Followed by Beauty, by Robin McKinley. Depends on how I'm feeling for what takes the #1 spot.

Outside of CoH, what are your favorite games?
Board games and table top rpgs. Zombies is a current favorite for board games, and Pathfinder for a RPG system.

Sports: Yes? No? Favorites? Teams? Players? Do you play any yourself?
Used to be a college football fan (UCLA), but stopped following years ago--not because I'm disloyal because they've been sucking it up but because I moved...a lot...and it was hard to follow.

Care to share the vision that is you? Pictures from 6-7 years ago of me can be found here un/fortunately (depending on perspective).
    No thanks on this one!

What keeps you from playing City of Heroes for gross stretches of time? (Kids, jobs, spouses, other hobbies, fill in the ______.)
Husband's job, mostly. I have another hobby which takes up a lot of my time, but it isn't a jealous mistress unless it's con season.

And finally, have you blurred the lines between my two neat categories? Do you play in-game with anyone you know "IRL," to use one of those dreaded stereotypical abbreviations that haunt the gamers' reputation?

The husband is a giant blurring of reality--met him in game originally. Met a large number of people from in-game in real life--some of the Seers, and then individuals throughout the years. Oh gods, it's been years. Help?

    2) Add a 72-hour (or more?) cooldown, repeatable respec TF that is *difficult*

I like those ideas, or I like another idea I've heard: giving us more slots for enhancements. I'm not saying having enough spots for ALL our enhancements, but maybe giving us 20 or 30 slots? You won't be able to save all your IOs in one go, but it'll make it faster/easier, and will make some marketeering much less painful.

Or give us some way of taking out enhancements. It doesn't have to be easy, but having the option would be nice.

Edit: And on topic, I like the 3rd respec, even if they're all wasted on me because I still don't have access to the characters that need them. However, that's my fault, and I'm not angry at all. Thanks dev team, and whoever was responsible for this!

Wait a minute. I'm confused--how do new animations get added to the mix get called 'limiting'? You added that just because it was 'new' it wasn't preferable to the other animations we already have. Why? Is it because they made the 'mistake' of porting the animations across as many powersets as normal, so they seem blase? Is it because you personally don't like the particular style of the animations?

I'm not trying to attack you in any way, I simply would like to hear exactly why more options=limiting. For instance, for my characters I love the new animations. The hand animations make a lot more sense for a lot of my characters, since I admittedly mostly do magic, with other origins thrown in for flavor. In addition to the majority being magic, a lot of my heroes are 'everyday heroes', and it makes a lot more sense for them to be simple and straightforward in their animations--none of that funny business with eye mojo and over-the-top gestures. While I appreciate that people will want grander gestures as well, I believe this is a good starting place for those of us who aren't usually into the showmanship of the newer sets (dual blades, dual pistols, to some extent kinetic melee).

And while in a perfect world we all would have gotten something we liked, I do remember many a quote from BABs and other animators basically saying "It's a lot harder then it looks" (paraphrased). It may SEEM like copy/pasta'ing to us, but as another poster mentioned, they have to balance and reskin and recolor and find the bugs that will pop up goodness knows where and so on and so forth. I understand you want big shinies, but I will propose that this is a good start.
  19. I guess I am kinda alone in this, but I actually adore the new power animations. I like the uniformity, and I can mix and match what stays and what goes. No, it's not sunshine and rainbows coming out of your head, but it does add variation for those who are tired of the same animation after x number of years, and yet it adds uniformity to those who kept complaining that well this power comes from the eyes, this from the hand, this from who knows where...

Keeping everything balanced and stable is difficult, and making all these new colors and power animations work is difficult and given everything else they've been giving us lately I'm willing to cut them slack about not having ten new completely different animations for every power set. Patience, padawans. You'll get more, just they need to work on other things as well.

  21. So what you're now claiming is because there may be some good players on one server who will be HIGHLY OFFENDED that this person dare make a comment on some bad players from the same server, they shouldn't mention their bad experiences on another server?

My goodness. Someone is mighty touchy. And I can also tell you that most people won't give a rats patooty that this person is being honest about their experiences on Virtue. Which is what they did. You're the one extrapolating information they didn't provide that everyone is a hoity toity player. They just said that the people they've run across so far are like that.

Way to take something personally that has nothing to do with you. And way to randomly blow up an issue that again, has nothing to do with you. Unless of course Angel has actually teamed with you and you're one of the people they're talking about from personal experience, which makes their statements factual, and not bridge-burning at all.

And to the OP, some good channels on Infinity to find teams tend to be Infinity Badges 2.0, AE Anonymous, Infinity Hamidon, Inf Badge Seekers. I know there's more, darned if I know them though. Best of luck on finding teams. And really, there's a reason most of us are on Infinity versus other servers, and we tend to be a welcoming bunch overall (every server is going to have their downers, unfortunately, but Infinity is big enough it's pretty easy to ignore them). As for the rp, again, I don't know how to contact them since I don't rp myself, but I know they exist since I keep running across them in the game.

    Jus' sayin'.

Wow, you're on Infinity? Never seen you before. Not doubting you have many characters on here, just saying...maybe you should be more active on a server before spouting "commentary" on being rude about someone else's personal bad experiences. Who are you to say that Angelofvalor hasn't run into a lot of bad people?

Every server has bad apples. And that post just proved you may want to start looking in the mirror a bit before randomly snapping at someone who was looking for teams and actual gameplay when they couldn't find it elsewhere.
  23. I'll be honest, I didn't read the thread, just watched the videos, and wanted to say I'm squeeing. I realize it has a ways to go, but since I'm one of those people who hates sitting still, I've been jonesing for more active gameplay in all the games I play, and the chance to act out powers is damn cool. Also, I have nothing constructive to add. Just wanted to mention I like it!
  24. As much as I love new people coming to Infinity, and welcome you if you decide to come here, if you really like Virtue I'd recommend waiting til i19 drops (should be this week) and see if the teams return. My guess is everyone's running certain AE missions at the moment, and once they're killed, they'll go back into normal game.

But if you decide you don't like Virtue regardless, welcomes! Best way to find teams on Infinity is usually to join some global channels--tfs and sfs and other teams are usually forming at any given time. I don't rp myself, but I know we have a couple groups around who do.
