If there's any thread I have to post in for free account activation weekend, it's this one. =)
Five Finger Death Punch - Stranger than Fiction Or anything from them really, if you have the right footage - Aura from the PvP ladder used a few from them. Or if you like accoustic, they can do that too.
Nightwish has been mentioned here, but bears mentioning again.
I also can't seem to find any Drum 'n Bass videos. Some fun stuff to be had if you're using that.
Pendulum - Blood Sugar
Tarantula
Granite (Rikti-themed video?)
I wish I had one of my playlists handy. I could scrounge up something weird. -
That's like, all the people from Liberty that inspired me to start PvP in the first place in I6. With a level 40 Dom in Siren's. That flew.
Goooood times. -
Plummet - Damaged (Original or the arguably better 808 Remix, with a Classic AMV attached)
Lots of stuff off the new Metallica album that might prove to be inspiring, too. But I'm lazy. -
I'm still trying to figure out who "@Timeless" is. All these new people confuse me.
-
Whoa, where'd you find the dude who took the global I wanted?

While I can appreciate the need for a good anti-guide, I'm not sure if this is the place to be making one for the purpose of satire.

Thanks for the help.
I decided to go with XviD for the whole compatability thing. It also seems that the x264 might be a bit iffy on the support.
Uploading from that site didn't appear to help the problem, so I tracked down this website and uploaded that bit of zeroes and ones. The XviD codec showed up then.
Compression, away! -
Alright... it's been a long time since I've done anything with videos, but an excuse has shown up to do so. Of course, since I changed my computer, something is getting in the way...
The question I have is this: I am using VirtualDub to attempt to compress a video file, and my options for compression formats are... limited. I actually have DivX and Xvid on this new computer, but -neither- are showing up on the list of available compression formats.
So, how do I get DivX or XviD on the list of available compression formats in Virtualdub? And if that isn't possible, which of the formats would be the 'best' to compress a file in? Formats available right now: Intel IYUV Codec (FOURCC: i420), Intel IYUV Codec (FOURCC: iyuv), Microsoft Video 1.
Or should I just track down a better compression software?

Yeah, we upgraded K's status to waterboy.
And by water, I mean booze. -
1.) 60% Hit rate. It's a werid number, but it hits a wee bit more than it misses to make the fight a touch more interesting.
2.) 90% Hit rate. Not guranteed, but close. Bit more leeway than currently for 'lucky misses.'
3.) 10% hit rate. Same reasoning as #2.
4.) 30% hit rate. You'll hit, but not too often.
I am a personal fan of the idea of "defense trumps offense" in games. Not a lot of games have that.
Also, I dislike how everything seems to be based on the old d20 systems with the 'natural 1' and 'natural 20' things. If you don't know what that means... a 5% chance is 1 in 20. That just happens to be the same size of dice from a certain old RPG system that I've never been fond of. It's a handy core reference system for games, but it seems like everything is using the old standby. -
I got to see some alpha/beta play of Fury. It sounds all like "clickclickclickclickclick" of button mash.
I prefer the deliberate, calculated attacks here, thanks. -
While I do like all of these features, I voted for PvP. Even though it has massive problems, some of my best memories of this game so far are from PvP.
Those moments that make me vote PvP:
-10 minute fights with my Dominator against a Tanker. Talk about epic; it felt like a real super hero/villain throwdown.
-Witnessing the top PvP groups run their matches on test. It's hard to see at first, but once you get an eye for it it's like watching artwork being made.
-Impossible odds fights. I've had a few times where I did something I though was impossible, and just had to sit there for a minute to take it in.
-Meeting cool people on either side, and learning to be a better player from them. When PvP isn't so cutthroat, it's a good way to have friendly competition against people you may not normally see and to learn the ins and outs of your character more.
I, and a lot of other PvPers, feel that it would be a shining feature of this game if some time were put into it. I admit that it can get VERY frustrating at times, but those peaks are what make it worth it. And with a bit of polish, those low points will become that less frequent, and the high that much moreso. -

It's funny I've argued both sides of this before. Both the "it doesn't make sense to spend on pvp" and "pvp needs attention"
The RV event was huge. I remember a ton of pvp occuring during it too. When I was logging on there was over 20 instances and most of those were "full". I know all the ones I got into were rank with pvp and very little pve occuring.
RV is dead on live though
How many instances of faultline are there right now on test. When I checked it out there was 1 and it was no where near full. And it IS the main feature of i8 imo (before they stuck in vet rewards a week or so later).
I'm honestly in the "if you build it they will come" camp. Have the previous attempts at implementing pvp been failures? ya, kinda, but that's because the dev's screwed it up imo, not because of a lack of interest.
If the pvp population isn't significant enough to warrant attention then one could question why a zone that according to my surveys has less than 2 people in it at any given time, would be completely overhauled with new art and tech (cause a bunch of cov stuff is on that map now). I know that took a lot of time and given the amount of 15-25 content already in coh that zone will likely be sparsely populated in the future as well. Is that a waste of resources?
Grandville is a graveyard most of the time and a ton of marketing and resources went into that zone. Waste?
I agree 100% that pvp is an advertised (quite heavily too) feature of this game and should be given attention soley on that principle. Does it make sense from a business perspective? Not immediately no. But if a dev supported event like the auto level rv event can pull in upward of 20-30 zone instances (most full) I would say it has potential to attract new customers. Cause lets face it pve in this game isn't attracting many new people anymore and it will only get worse as the next gen mmo's start comming out. But pvp is a unique marketing tool and coh is a unique gaming environment. The combination of the two could prove successful. WITH SUPPORT.

Here here. Good post.
We don't even need to agree what the "support" is. But it seems everyone who's tried PvP agrees that it needs some kind of it. -

Did you see the test of RV when there was auto-leveling to 40? PvP still draws plenty of support, WHEN IT WORKS.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, Unfortunately I missed it
How many players were on and how long did it last?

Just so this all doesn't sound like tossing yourself into the fire...
The test RV event was very fun, and absolutely HUGE. If I remember correctly, I saw over 30 instances of RV listed as FULL (which I think is 200 players, correct me if I'm wrong) and there were several more besides.
If that particular event is any indication, than the PvP events would have HUGE turnouts, and even better turnout and popularity if PvP was more attractive for regular usage. -
Alright, so get this.
Prima just released the new I7 guide, written by Statesman, which INCLUDES DAMAGE NUMBERS! And there was joy around the world.
So I did a quick rundown for comparison. The 2.77 BI attacks are supposed to be a 1.0 multiplier, so I snagged one of those (Energy Punch, Stalker) and checked the numbers.
The level 50 number for damage on this guide is accurate to within .01 of the Prima damage number.
Expected from guide: 50.05
Listed in Prima guide: 35.03 Smash + 15.01 NRG = 50.04
Why was I interested in this? I was looking for the approximated damage scalar for the Dominator patron power pools. Just to see how badly I hamstrung myself taking Ghost Widow's set.
Scalar values for Dominator Patron AoE attacks:
Dark Obliteration: .900
Disrupter Blast: 1.000
Bile Spray: 1.200 with DoT
Ball Lightning: .908 with DoT
Maybe I will make a guide for all the patron powers... -
Yeah, it's always cool to see so many people willing to offer a moment's time helping someone else out. I just got my CoH working after some tech support, and have made a hero or two on Liberty to go with my villain or two. The Hollows makes for some interesting rescue stories.
It must be like a high-level minigame, playing "rescue the lowbie" in the Hollows. See how many you can save in X amount of time! -
Random thought -
Does anyone have the BI/End Cost/Animation Time/Recharge for the common attack chain attacks in Dark, Energy, and Electric? It feels like this set is designed to be sort of the middle ground between those two (and maybe Fire, given the AoEs). Maybe on paper it will look 'right.'
Using the Prima Official Guide, V's Guide to Brute Numbers, and this thread for numbers, I get:
Dark Melee (Compared to EleM most, good sustained damage)-
-Shadow Punch: 2.333 BI/4.368 End/.57 Animation/3 Recharge
-Smite: 3.678 BI/6.864 End/.97 Animation/6 Recharge
-Shadow Maul (Finisher #1, PBCone): 6.000 BI/8.528 End/3.07 Animation/8 Recharge
-Midnight Grasp (Finisher #2): 6.333 BI/11.96 End/2.07 Animation/15 Recharge
versus
Energy Melee (Extreme Single Target Damage)-
-Barrage: 1.889 BI/3.526 End/1.33 Animation/2 Recharge
-Energy Punch: 2.778 BI/5.2 End/.57 Animation/4 Recharge
-Bone Smasher: 4.556 BI/8.528 End/1.5 Animation/8 Recharge
-Total Focus (Finisher #1): 9.889 BI/18.512 End/3.3 Animation/20 Recharge
-Energy Transfer (Finisher #2): 12.667 BI/10.192 End(With self-hurt)/1 Animation/20 Recharge
versus
Electric Melee
-Charged Brawl: 2.33 BI/X End/X Animation/X Recharge
-Havoc Punch: 3.67 BI/X End/X Animation/X Recharge
-Jacob's Ladder (Finisher?, PBCone): 3.67 BI/X End/X Animation/X Recharge
-Thunderstrike (Finisher?, PBAoE component): 5.44 BI(2.66 AoE?)/X End/3.3? Animation/X Recharge
-Lightning Rod (Unique Components, AoE): 8.166? or 7.4? BI (first number is GFS, as this is supposed to be comparable)/X End/X Animation/90 Sec recharge
Just based on this, it looks like the numbers are closer to Dark Melee, with vastly different "end this fight" techniques. It also looks like this will be the undisputed king of Brute AoE damage. If anyone can help fill in the blanks, it would probably give a better picture of how this set stacks up for a basic attack chain.
Another note: Is it possible to use LR placed very close to someone, and queue up another attack (say, Thunderstrike) so that the second attack goes off while they are flying back from the LR shockwave? I've done something similar with Wormhole, but I don't know if the animations would be limiting.
I am hoping that this set ends up being great fun on the live servers. I've got plans to take one to 50. -
It's threads like this that make me thankful I got CoV. I'll probably pick up CoH too, to try to meet some of you on the hero side.
I still don't trust random invites though. At least send me a tell so I know it's not just some random weirdness.
