Yep that last post i made, DID sound worse then i meant it to sound. I agree that people should be able to highlight the problems, BUT when the same post is made in different wording repeatedly it gets a bit boring to read. and for the record, I never said i was awesome at pvp, i have sucesses and failures the same as everyone else. as for the alternate reality thing. you should sit in bloody bay or sirens on union for a while and listen to b'cast. Then you will see why i have so little sympathy for villains. as i have said in various othe threads, i love both sides equally but Have admittedly spent more time on heroes recently, but thats only because i enjoy team play and there seems to be a lack of team players about lately.
What i was intending to say was, that highlight problems by all means, and justify them. As is common on a lot of these types of threads though it turns into a b**ching session rather then constructive points. As for the last bit about how comes im not known throughout the land.... yea ok. -
jaqueline, perhaps you can give some tips on the clear mind thread. a lot of aggro on there about how unfair pvp is to villains. your obviously doing it right
-
Perhaps thats your problem. If youve been pvping fo a year you cant have had much time to actually level your characters in order to pvp build them properly. And i disagree, about your tool is broke statement. The tool aint broke and tactics would help you out. The problem is that villains are essentially offensive, but in the interests of not making them rediculously over powered in pvp so that they win even when rediculously outnumbered makes sense. Not to mention i used to spend a lot of time in sirens/ bloody bay and the VAST majority of the time, it was villains who were winning, one on one and team battles.
This of course raises another question. Is it that there are problems, or is it that whilst people who do well in pvp crack on and keep doing well, whilst those who dont, make thresds on the forums whining about it. -
Heal other, CM, Fort, Recovery Aura and Adrenalin Boost all root.

OK returning to the Original point, as this thread has turned into a bit of a whine about villain power sets. Tactics play a large part in any pvp battle, and like it or not a well built Villain team actually has the tactical advantage. So the Heroes have an empath in their team, YOurbrutes dom's and corr's take the attention of the tanks blasters and scrappers, whilst the stalkers (for whom not yapping on b'cast is a good way of not rousing suspicion) can whip around the back and nail the empath, then leg it to a safe distance to let hide kick back in, Now its just a waiting game until CM runs out, however highly stacked it is, it doesnt last that long, if the emp rrezzes and comes back , you can garauntee CM will have pretty much worn off, and the stalkers can strike him again to keep him from re-stacking, and then assist the rest of the team in taking the hard hitters down. As long as your brute isnt a complete wuss this plan will work, especially if the dom's corr's take some of the heat.
And without trying to sound condescending, A large amount of your success can be atuned to how you have built your toon. Ive seen stalkers and brutes get torn apart by a team of well organised blasters, but ive also seen two stalkers take down a tanker and his empath. You wouldnt just rush into battle against +2 enemies in a mission, and you certainly shouldnt do it in pvp. Not to mention a contingency plan will aid you a lot. Never plan for everything going smoothly, always plan for the worst case scenario.
Its too easy to blame other players or the game physics when you are beaten "A good workman always blames his tools" i believe is a good way of looking at it.
So instead of whingieing about how biased the game is (which the majority of people would tend to disagree anyway) plan your characters and your tactics better knowing what you have learned from your experiences thus far. -
an interesting build one of my sg members used, although he never used it in pvp but he swore by was using the fitness pool fully slotted health and stamina, with full slotted regen powers fast healing and quick recovery. his survivability was impressive in missions and i think it was a shame for him to have repecced it out before trying it pvp.
-
the point seems to be entirely missed. you shouldnt be able to hold up against more then one player in pvp. two on one or five on one it makes no difference. You are lookin at it from an entirely one sided PoV. one on one a stalker COULD beat almost anything short of a well built tank. And as long as you have hide, you are pretty damn hard to hit even IF they have CM stacked. complaining about not being abl to fight several heroes at the same time is just daft
-
pvp zones are not biased against villains.
if you wander round solo then you can expect a team to be able to hit your weakness. If you are in a team then it becomes a lot harder to do so. it works both ways. on the heroes side i have been ganked by three stalkers in hide, whilst on my fire tank. funnily enough it took them seconds to finish the job. no point crying about it. went and got a team and came back. didnt happen again. simple as that -
at the end of the day its easy to feel victimised when u get ganked. but to be honest if you survive a 5 man gank then where is the imbalance? obviously its in your favour. i hear villains moaning all the time about how badly balanced pvp is in their favour. in my experience its tipped the other way. however. im not saying that you personally are not experiencing trouble im just saying that to be honest i think pvp is perfectly balanced. when a stalker can two hit a scrapper of the same level, and can very nearly take down a tanker.... hmmm lets see where the scales are sitting
-
in all fairness to both sides. i tend to find that villains i have teamed with stack invis so its only fair that the heroes stack cm to counteract this.
Im not biased i play both sides. u stack invis and AS people. obviously they are gonna stack cm -

My favorite scrapper moment was probably loggin back on with him (being my first ever toon) after three months of negelct at level 22, and realising that he wasnt that bad after all. I had left him to Create Thundorn Jr, my Empathy defender who i had played for two months solid A) becasue its fun and B) cos at the time i REALLY wanted a 50 so i could make a peacebringer (Boy was that an anti climax) having being completely new to the game in every respect when i built my scrapper the build was... shall we say unique. However when i logged back on with him i fell back in love with scrappers and got him to lvl 30, where he now again waits patiently until i get my fire nrg tank to lvl 40. Claws regen is Awesome
-
The first toon i ever created (ahh it seems so long ago now) was a claws regen. Being new to the game lvl 1-15 took a looong time as i was solo most of the time. it was actually my girlfriend who pointed out that it was faster to team. I nearly made a few mistakes regarding choosing too many power pools instead of sticking with my primaries. As im sure most people will agree, when you are levelling you first ever toon all those powers look great. But having solo'd most of the way to 15 i found it better to obtain my primaries, mainly becasue they were the ones i figured that would improve my kill rate.
I Nearly picked the heal power pool, mainly becasue it seemed back then to be hard to find a good empath. (knowing what i know now i realise that an empath is a nice to have but not a must have) but agian i refrained. I went though the stage as im sure we all did of going to the hollows, doing the hover auto run put the kettle on, routine. but once i hit lvl 15 and got into team play seriously i started to get my head round the cookie cutter builds and tried to extrapolate on those. On reflection i could look back and say, it wasnt really necesary to get air superiority AND hover and i could also argue that maybe i didnt need to get recall friend. but i find they are all handy in their own way. (obviously hover is a bit of an accademic point as a scrapper unless im fighting sky skiffs, but i tend to just knock them to ground with air superiority and fight them on terra firma) the point im making through this rambling is that, unless you are really bothered by what other people think, make your first toon how you want to, in order to enjoy playing. I hardly ever use that toon now but i look back with a smile and think it was fun and i learned from it. and should i use him again. he can still hold his own and function as a useful team member.
-
my own at low levels. what i meant was. compared to other tanks i have had, the endurance drain is more bearable at low levels. i know its all about slotting and fitness pools and so on. Im refering to the bog standard, not high enough a level to have said slots and pools.
-
I can only repeat what he told me as far as the first bit goes. i dont doubt him for a second when he says about the being held in a position where the longbow npcs took him out. as for how he actually got in that situation is a mystery. possibly he was beating the person senseless and they took exception to it. As far as he tells me it was a blaster so its highly likely that he had beaten said player before hand.
With regard to the getting hide back up, that may well have been the case and im not for one minute suggesting that duelling should mean stnding still until one of you ends up in a snotty heap on the floor. but it wasnt a case of getting hide back up, he would run off for a good few minutes before reappearing, coincidentally fully healed. not really what i would say was good form.
This is where again i get reminded that arena is for duels, but the way i see it is theres nothing wrong with doin it in pvp zones, and if you agree to do it, AFTER all the stipulations have been made which you have agreed upon.... DO IT PROPERLY, and die like a man if you are getting beaten. U dont get debt so that is no excuse. the short and simple line is that ppl like that love gettin their rep's high but poo themselves as soon as defeat is inbound. Hence why i dont take reputations in pvp zones seriously at all. And anybody who feels they have to boast about it rather then just geting on with it like everyone else has probably done so by similar means. How does the saying go?? "Those who do... do. Those who dont.. Boast about it!" -
You see you were in a tricky spot there anyway. You had done nothing wrong by attack the troller and for them to become abusive, well they deserved what they got. One situation which i found particularly irritating was when i was using my Emp defender. Several of my friends were in warburg (heroes and villains) and were fighting one on one. a few other unknowns decided to join the fun, which was welcomed (The more the merrier). Now Being a defender and an empath at that i wsa about at much use as boobs on fish in pvp zones anyway, and all i was doin was watchin the action. and if a hero went down they would inv me so i could tp them out rez them and send them on their way. just to save them the trip to hospital so they could get back into the fun quicker. Bearing in mind that this was an agreed one versus one duelling session ( i know arena for duels etc) there was one stalker whom i had noticed was chickening out constantly. he would fight, get close to death, sj away, hide wait to regen and then re-appear and AS the person whom he had been fighting, this person who had already given up on the stalker and moved on to another fight. This was causing endless irritation as this seemed to be his reputation gaining tactic. Some might call it clever, and i suppose in some situations i would tend to agree. HOWEVER in this situation where everyone, including him had agreed that it was a duel scenario, just made him look like a coward. People got fed up eventually and started telling him to either fight properly or leave, as he was spoiling it for everyone else. I remained silent, i was not participating in the duels so i had no place telling anyone what to do. I assumed he had left. WHACK, assassin strike followed by another attack. Down goes me. Fair play. I congratulkated him on his easy kill, went to hospital and returned to my position and continued to watch the show. My demise was not as well recieved by the other player though (again both sides) who were by this point getting very annoyed with the stalkers shennannigans (Spelling??). His argument was that nobody knew how hard it was for a nrg regen stalker, which get several laughs from ppl in the zone. And that he had a very high reputation which he was very proud of and that everyone who disagreed with his tactics was a n00b. this is where i spoke and asked him if he knew what n00b meant and if so how he could justify calling almost an entire zone full of players both sides (i feel it worth mentioning that there were two other scrappers playing nicely with everyone else) all n00bs. Whack Assassin strike again. Down goes me again. I congratulated him on yet another easy kill and more easy rep points. At this point i started gettin tells from my freinds asking if i wanted them to gank him a few times to get rid of him, to which i replied no. if he wanted to rack up the easy kills i wasnt bothered. literally the second i returned from hospital.... Whack assassin strike again. follwed by "HA!! i pwned you n00b". Stand by boiling point nearly reached, flash imminent!!. i managed to refrain from being abusive and went to hospital again. Im a defender right i should expect to get nailed all the time in pvp right? NO Had i been engaging or even buffing ppl, i would expect to become Involved in the action. but watching the action and becomming some stalkers last resort for reputation points is just insulting and very cowardly on his part. I have to admit this soured my opinion of stalkers for a long time and i apologise to all the stalkers who do have some honour or even manners, but it will be a long time before i take stalkers pvp reps seriously. The point of my little story is that THAT is what i call a n00b (btw i never actually use that word but since this is what the post is about...)
I do have a few peevs about pvp, but i do realise that they are anything goes zones. But its obnoxious characters like that that make people not want to enter the zones. Most of my sg dont bother with pvp now, not through fear of getting beaten but just to avoid the cocky a**holes that seem to inhabit them all the time.
Ganking is an interesting topic as well. Everyone hates being ganked but will happily do it to other people. I think everyone has had a few choice words to say when people do it to them and yet they are surprised when the shoe is on the other foot. The point is that i know that there are role players out there who take the fact that they are villains very seriously and see no err in gankin, ambushing etc, but i think there is a line. Heroes ae just as bad mind you.
A good friend of mine was doin some missions in sirens call on his brute (great xp, that diffuse bombs one) but was the only villain in sirens at the time, needless to say the twelve heroes in the zone could taste the bounty. They started goading him with various insults, buit he remained silent and went about his business. which obviously annoyed the hell out of them because they started camping out on his route of travel between the villain base and his missions, trying to catch him. they followed him to his mission and waited outside for him. as soon as he exited the mish whoosh he was teleported into the longbow base and held there until the various longbow defence npcs had killed him. NOW THEN!! some poeple i have told about this incident have replied with "Cool... Very cool" ironically they are mostly friends of the perpotrator. MOST people ive told this story too have sgreed that it was bang out of order. I disagree with ganking, but even that would have been preferable to this. to get another player debt intentionally is just bad form.
Now my friend has almost never used the word n00b and rarely gets into slagging matches, however he was furious about this and IMO justifiably so, and called them n00bs and cowards. to which they retorted with more insults. The first swear word that was uttered was unfortunately uttered by my friend. Bang!! in goes a petition and he gets a speaking ban for the night.
Make of it what you will. -
I have been training my fire energy tank lately and think its possibly the most fun tanker build i have tried. Fire SS was fun too but i felt this build was worth noting the most. I have tried to balance between pvp and team play.
Blazing aura :3 dmg 2 taunt
Fire shield: 3 def
Plasma Shield: 3 def
Consume: 1 end enh 2 dmg 1 acc
Healing flames: 3 heal 3 rech
Barrage: 2 dmg 1 acc
Bone Smasher: 2 dmg 1 acc
Whirling hands: 3 dmg 2 acc 1 rech
Taunt: 1 taunt
Boxing: no slot
Tough: 2 def
Combt jump
Super Jump: 1 jump
Acrobatics: 2 end
Swift
Health: 3 health
Stamina: 3 end enh
This toon is only lvl 30 at the moment, but to be honest from all my previous builds i have to say although it may be a little bit squishier then stone tanks my level, it can easily keep up with most. and healing flames takes about 20 seconds to recharge and fills half my hp back up should i be dealing with a mob thats a little too tough. and its fun to use.
Final note: the endurance drain on this baby is very low even at low levels when compared to that of stone and ice. -
If it makes ya feel any better. Not many of my Heroes can actually kill a stalker. Never fought a stalker out of hide admittedly but its only my Tank who actually breaks the stalemate
Keep fighting the good fight... or Evil depending on how you look at it. -
The way i avoid conflict in pvp is by complimenting them on how well they fought. Admittedly can sound a bit sarcastic if you two hit them before they even know your there but saying something positive, even if its just something like "your power set gets really powerfull at higher lvl's" can lighten the mood and make the 'victim' feel a little less tempted to call you names. Of course there are those few.... ahhh bless bed time is only round the corner.
-
Just been reading some of yer posts on the other thread godfall reference the word n00b and im in complete agreement with you.
The thing is for a stalker, its a quandry, do i go without hide and stand a good chance of gettin my behind handed to me on a plate. or do i go in with hide and risk a verbal attack if i actually beat them??
Its a toughie and as i said b4 having been on both sides of the argument. i dont think its a situation that will ever be resolved. -
Hehe Fair enough. But you kind of made my point there too. If you can 3 hit a tanker, how in hades a blaster, scrapper or def is supposed to survive i dont know.
Stalkers... Superior Archetype, MOST of the time -
What i meant was, that the way i usually find stalkers initiate these fights is by AS'in which to a tanker isnt much of a problem, but ive rarely see blasters, defenders or scrappers last long enough to actually fight back.
Im in total agreement, that out of hide, stalkers are vulnerable, or at least as vulnerable as a scrapper is anyway. -
Probably sounded like a rant last post.
Though id better clear it up.
Stalkers are nice Archetypes, they can as a general rule stand up well against a tanker in pvp. The problem is certainly from both sides i have experienced this, There is no other AT who can effectively fight against a Stalker. If a tank gets AS'd he can turn round a wallop the stalker over the head for it and thus begins the three hour battle to see whos endurance lasts the longest. but i think it gets boring as a stalker being able to basically two hit any other AT. and irritating as one of those AT's. Would be nice to see the playing field levelled a bit, if only for gameplay sake.
