I ran the "Beethoven's 5th" tip mission with a small group a few days ago, and found one bug, and a possible suggestion for a re-wording.
This was Blueside, picking the heroic choice. The mission was to rescue a captured Longbow agent from an Arachnos base.
First, the re-wording suggestion:
When approached, the agent's text were words to the effect of "I'm sorry I'm to weak to help you", which seems right if she were a hostage to lead out. But then she stood up and started blasting, and taking damage- if she's supposed to be an ally, then the text should be of the more normal "I'll help you!" sort. Perhaps it was using the text of the vigilante version in the hero version.
Next, the bug:
We were not successful, she died. The mission did not end in failure, however. We cleared out the map of everything, including the prison cell doors. The red triangles showed up when they were supposed to. The mission would not terminate. Ended up canceling out of it. Only time I've run it, no idea if the bug is repeatable.
I submitted a /bug at the time, but did not mention the re-wording suggestion. That seemed more appropriate for here. -

The other night, a small group I was with did our first tip mission (Blue Side). The title was "Beethoven's 5th", and was suppose to involve rescuing a Longbow agent.
The odd thing- when first encountered, the Agent's text was words to the effect of "I'm too weak to help you", but then she pulled a gun and started blasting. She was killed soon after, and the mission wouldn't end. We cleared the map quite clear, even of the doors in the prison (on the theory that she might have been in one of the cells). Eventually gave up and auto-completed it.
So: is this supposed to be a 'lead the non-targetable hostage' out mission, or a 'they can help and get killed' mission? -
This isn't a request for an alternate animation, but for a way to use them: for sets that have multiple animations, how about the ability to use different animations- either alternating, or at random. Would make more sense on the unarmed and armed melee sets than the blast sets, but could be useful for anyone.

Quote:That wasn't an invasion. That was a bunch of drunken alien fratboys trying to out-macho each other. ("I'll go fight the aliens made of death fluid!" "Oh yeah? *I'll* do it without weapons!" "Oh yeah? Well *I'll* do it without weapons and NAKED!")Haha, oh god, the Signs aliens.
Fighting naked and bare-handed against something that basically has acid for blood, and can spit acid... and excretes acid from their skin.... and can use guns...
And yeah, the aliens can't even open doors
That was a terrible movie.
And then we just have to assume they were too drunk to figure out a doorknob, and they made the crop circles while staggering around looking for the keys to their saucer. -
Quote:For Archery, I would like to be able to change the color of the arrows. Even it it's just the fletching. One of the projects we are working on is to create more alternate animations for various powers. The animators asked me which powers I wanted to have this applied to and rather than simply come up with a list myself, I thought it would be interesting to open the discussion to you the fans.
Caveat:
Powers with Alternate Animations will still have nearly the exact same Animation Lengths, so this thread is not about creating shorter animations for various powers.
So, let's hear it! Tired of doing Backflips with Eviscerate? Sick of beating your chest like Tarzan? Eyebeams not your cup of tea? Tell us about it! -
Quote:The Russians had good reasons to give up on it.It's too bad Russia's multi-billion dollar Buran space shuttle got trashed, huh?
-np
The Buran flew once, unmanned. It was an engineering test article (incomplete cabin, no life support system, etc). On that flight, it suffered severe structural damage; it was lucky to not have split in half on re-entry. It could not possibly have flown again. The launch vehicle that it rode on (unlike the US shuttle, it did not have it's own launch engines) was not very reliable; not that they built very many of them.
It didn't really do anything they needed, anway. They only built it because the US had a shuttle, so they had to have one, too. Their space stations were radically different than ours, and did not require that sort of vehicle to assemble.
(Arguments can be made that the US didn't really need one either, but that's getting into politics). -
Quote:I remember someone attempting to do that in the old, OLD days of text-based "Multi User Dungeons", AKA MUD's (typically hosted on university mainframe computers, well before anyone thought to try and run businesses based on the idea). Was called "Islandia", I forget who hosted it.Hmm, the way I could see it work would be if you had a subscription to somewhere, but instead of just having a subscription to one MMO, you'd have a subscription to a "mother-MMO" so to speak.
You'd create a character there and then take it into one of many smaller worlds. Like perhaps you're in a fantasy mood, so your character puts on elf ears and joins the fantasy world for the night. Maybe you're in a sci-fi mood? Your character jumps into his pilot suit and you're off hunting space pirates in the space world. Then you'd in a superhero mood and your character puts on its superhero costume and flies off into the superhero world.
It'd be the same character, and the various worlds would play more or less similar, but you'd be free to jump from any world to any world while playing. It could allow the developers to create several smaller worlds with themes that might not support a full MMO, but are happy distractions when your character gets tired of the fantasy/sci-fi/superhero worlds. Maybe you just feel like going fishing, and hey, there's a world for that, too.
It's a monumental job to make that work, though. Imagine having to make sure that this works, and that nothing in one world will create a bug in another. Still, the concept could be awesome, if pulled off. I'm just glad I don't have to develop it.
Oh, and I'm glad video game theory isn't an instant delete in the new rules. We just have to be careful not to discuss actual games.
Of course, there was no concept of character advancement, as characters were text descriptions and their actions were whatever you typed. -

What affect will this have on the WW and BM teleport powers? Will they only work for their named locations? Only work for the market locations of the side you are on? Let you teleport between Hero and Villain sides? Or what?

Noticed something odd over the weekend- when encountering DE Herders in their initial "I'm just a tree" mode, if a Voltaic Sentinel was summoned near them, it would fire while they were still disguised, and untargetable by anything else. They'd promptly de-cloak, with a sliver of health gone, which indicated the attack was real.
Is this a bug, or is VS supposed to be able to do that? Can any other pet do it? -
Quote:A good rule for teams: always cast MF on whomever is below you on the team list (first person if you are the last). Works quite well; when gathering by a mission door, someone calls 'fortune', everyone casts simultaneously, nobody gets missed, no time wasted. And it looks very cool. You know, as much as I find it handy not to have to click the prompt every time - there was one thing I missed about it.
...being able to tell who Fortune'd you! As I usually say "thanks" or Fortune them back where I can, but every time I can't see who did it, I feel a little guiltyHave not encountered anyone who did not want the buff yet, but if so, it would help: one person would need to remember to buff the second person below them, rather than everyone needing to remember who should not be buffed.

Quote:Perhaps we're supposed to assume that the connections were damaged in the war and hastily repaired, which might explain why the elevated highways have more lanes than the ramps. While I don't hate Skyway, it does feel really weird. In the game lore, Skyway was set up as the transportation hub of the city, but it ultimately failed. Why did it fail? Because all of the freeways loop back around on each other and ultimately lead nowhere. In a way, Skyway is the ultimate symbol of bureaucracy: leading everywhere and nowhere at the same time.
It would be nice if at least some attempt were made to have the freeways lead off into other zones, even if they're closed dute to Rikti War damage or something. -
That would ber Canary Wharf. Site of the largest battle between Cybermen and Daleks.

Quote:The point of that character was that the "grenade" was an inert training article from HGM's Army Basic training. Could not explode if he wanted it too. Can't find a decent online citation, but The Tick had a minor character called Hand Grenade Man, who, when asked what superpowers he had, said in a slightly crazy way, something to the effect of: "I have a hand grenade. It's surprising how differently people treat you when they know you have one."
Several of my characters have been keeping and crafting hand grenade recipes, and I keep wanting to say the line in chat.
His real "power" was how intense he could be while clutching the grenade in one hand, the pin in the other, and saying "Give up, or, I'LL DO IT!" Supposedly he used this ability to bring literally tens of criminals to justice. Which, for the Tick universe, is not that bad :-) -
Quote:Do we know if enhancements/inspirations were supposed to stack? The true bug might be that they were never supposed to stack, so most of the UI can't see anything but the top one.Where's my /jranger button... >.>
My only problem with them taking the AH down is that they never bothered to tell us that we could have stacks of Enhancements and/or Inspirations with the new UI, so it never got tested, so the bug made it Live.
I hope they give Bug Hunter to every person who reported it. -
Quote:And "embarrassed" is when you cast Mystic Fortune in the middle of a battle where you meant to cast Fortitude or Clear Mind. You made your self look moronic with that drivel you posted. Concept does not equal gimp. People make their characters they way they want and, this a shocker, will not always like everyone that is available. What is "gimp" are the annoying people that cast fortune during battle.
Just think before you post stupid comments please. -
Quote:Right, I heard about this in beta and understand that there was good reason behind making the change (I was hoping that pesky toggle could be changed to prevent the exploit instead).
I do indeed understand though, Caste, and I truly appreciate your reply and your sentiment (And the fact that you tried different ways).I hate saying anything negative, because I do appreciate and understand the complexity of everything involved and all and never wish to come off as an ingrate
And thanks for this. I truly hope they can make it happen!
To those that don't understand:
A 20 minute annoyance is a long annoyance. Apparently people missed that as my main point in my long-winded post. The effects last 20 minutes. That's a while to wait for them to wear off if you're taking screenshots or just not planning to get into any fights (Not everyone plays just to fight as much, as quickly and as efficiently as possible).
Still... I love the new Issue (Tweaked my settings even more to get a bit more performance out of them while keeping the great new visuals... and I'm on a single core system at the moment).
Would toggling the 'walk' power remove the SFX of the buff? -
I'll add my vote to the idea that that the text on enhancements is difficult to read; an increase in font size would be welcomed.

Quote:And he knows an untamed racing driver, "The Stug", who wears an all-black costume and never puts his helmet on?I stand corrected.
I think my "Captain Slow" on Triumph is still okay though, since his bio states that his real name is Mayes Jameson, co-presenter of BBC comedy show "High Gear" alongside Clark Jermaine and Hamish Richards. Or maybe I did see that, and that's why I didn't use any of their real names. -
I was able to get on the test server over the weekend, although I've never received a mail saying I was in closed beta, and I can't see the beta test forums. I don't know if that means it's open, if there is a bug in the closed-beta list, or what.

Another point in regards to your second question:
Being mezzed isn't as bad on a toggle-based character as it used to be. Defensive toggles are suppressed by a mez, but they come back on when it's over. -
A similar set of entries in the Wikis would also work out well.

Quote:How about a little bit of variation in the sounds the toons make? Sure, it's just a few grunts and footstomps, but would be nice to not have *every* male/female/huge sound the same as every other. There's probably a reason why we can't have it, but ...
I was thinking last night while I was busting out my Archer Blaster.
I just don't like the SOUND the archery set makes when you use it. I'm not super crazy about the sound of some other sets either.
Any chance that someday we may be able to pick the sounds our sets make when we activate them? -
Quote:I don't think they would want to go through the effort of making the animations unless they were making a new power set for crossbows. Which would be neat, but I'd rather see energy rifles first.I'm just saying it would be a good starting place. I would say by using some or most of the animations from Assault Rifle, then putting the arrows in from Archery. At that point you are 3/4 cut and paste and it just needs polish to be done well.
Use the same technology that grants you a choice between alternate animations in Martial Arts and Super Strength.
Add in 5 or 6 crossbows and speargun choices and we are set.
I never expected it to be something done in one person's lunch break. But I also don't think its as hard as you are making out.
