As for players getting access to both games, I love it. Love it, love it, love it. And this is coming from someone who bought the deluxe pre-sale pack from COMP USA, the retail version of COH, the DVD collectors version of COH, the pre-sale of COV, the collectors edition of COV, and the GVE pack.
I DO think it's important that there be some kind of nod for us old timers, which apparently will happen, but even if there wasn't, it all comes downt o one thing for me: bases. One of the most frustrating things in the game has all been creating a base with an awesome meeting chamber, and then having a couple people in the SG who did not have access to it because they did not have COV. So what do you do? Kick them out? Hold the meetings without them? Let the meeting room go to waste? Requiring tha everyone have both games? There really wasn't a great answer.
Now, there is. Now, if you're in a SG, you can enter a base. Period. And I think that's just awesome. -

Except that this isn't a case at all of another strange company coming in and purchasing something they didn't already own. This was NC's project *from the start* from before beta. They have always been involved. Please read the thread, mmkay? Particularly, go play spot the redname, because the 3 that we've had that I can recall off the top of my head (babs, war witch and ghost widow) more than made my mind up.

Except that I know that, and I said that. Knowing your agoraphobia is irrational doesn't make you any less agoraphobic.
Please read the posts you're responding to before getting smarmy, mmkay? -

The *entire crew* of the dev team ARE WORKING on this game still. The only differences include "more money", "more people to work for them" and "new office space".
[/ QUOTE ]
I think I pinned down where my feeling of dread comes from: EA.
Anyone remember Origin Studios? We Create Worlds? They were bought out by EA, and the only difference was goign to be more money, more resources, better abilities to make great games.
Anyone buy Ultima IX when it came out?
I know, Gariotte is with NCSoft now. I know, my fears are largely unfounded. It's just this automatic reaction with me. I've seen it happen so many times where a small company makes a great software product, so a big company comes in and buys them out, promising that the only change will be the developers have more resources, and things always go south.
Not saying it's gonna happen. Just saying "once bitten, twice shy."
I really hope this will be the beginning of a whole new era, and COH will do bigger and better things, and stay around as long as Everquest, UO and The Realm (yea, that's right. I said The Realm) have. -

I gotta say, this scares the crud right out of me. Not because I have anything against NCSoft, mind you. I have nothing bad to say about them. Honest.
It's just that this game has been so great so far with the Cryptic team, and it makes me nervous when people start talking about messing with something that works.
What worries me more is that I didn't see States, War Witch, Ghost Widow, or Manticore.
I dunno. I guess I just fear change.
[/ QUOTE ]
Apparently, you have not read the Dev Digest, where War Witch and several others, BAB included, have chimed in.
Jack "Statesman" Emmert left COH long ago to work on Marvel Online. Keep up.
The *entire crew* of the dev team ARE WORKING on this game still. The only differences include "more money", "more people to work for them" and "new office space".
Try reading the whole thing, because we know everyone is on it.

I read the press release. It only mentions Posi and two others. I didn't know Jack left for MUO. The last I heard from him was his promotion to the lead man for both games.
I knew MUO was going to be a problem for COH as soon as they announced it woudl be made by Cryptic. Marvel files a law suit against them, then settles, and then a few months later they're making a deal to develop a game? That doesn't bode well no matter how you look at it. -

Not sure if this has been brought up, but I'm not willing to go through four hundred posts to find out, and it needs to be said:
There is only so much content in the game. There's no real getting around that. For about a year, I ran a SG that played exclusively with each other (well, we each had one char that did that), and went through the content together for continuity.
Unless you're doing this, I strongly urge people to follow the "if it's new to them, it's new to me" rule. That is, if you get invited by someone to the story arc where you get infected by the Vahziloc wasting disease, and ultimately end up taking out the doctor himself, I don't care if you've done this arc ten times already, for the sake of the person hosting the arc, act as if it's never happened. Remember that these story arcs can be major points in that characters history and development, and it really detracts from the experience when someone keeps remarking how they got infected with the same disease, how they've arrested him several times, that they just arrested him yesterday, why is he out and doing the same thing again, etc.
It just detracts from the importance and the impact of the arc.
Yes, this means that you will have to re-RP certain stories. But try to keep in mind, no matter how seriously you take your RP and your character, this IS a game, and the main purpose is to have fun. -
Alright, all you die-hard roleplayers, here's a challenge for you: think of a plausible RP reason why we would stand at a door, knock on it, kill what comes out, and then instead of investigating the apparent monster factory, or better yet,t he source, we stand at a door for a minute waiting to knock again.
In other words, trick or treating is fun, but RP kind of goes out the door. Any idea how to fix that? -
Not sure if this has been covered, but I'd likt to add a word of advice about RPing missions:
One of things that seperates MMO's from table top RPG's is that no matter how good the dev's get at making a dynamic experience, there's always going to be similar quests. If you are askeed by someone to help with a mission, go into it from a RP standpoint of you've never done it before. Even if you've done it a hundred times. If you're roleplaying the Vahzilock plague, it just spoils it for everyone if every misison you're going "this same thing happened to me once" or "man, how many times is this guy going to try this same plot? I've stopped him half a dozen times now!" -
I remember standing in the lake in Perez park with a few dozen other heroes when the "pre-invasion" was going on during beta. Rikti spawning in mass in there. Most of us had never ever SEEN Rikti.
I remember any doubts I had about the game's potential being washed away the moment I saw something the size of the Rikti ship actually moving.
I remember when Perez Park was so full there were often three or four instances of it running at the same time.
I, too, remember the cows.
I remember Boxhead.
I remember when you could use rest while your personal field was up.
I remember the abundance of political interest groups that created Super Groups. I'm thankful they eventually realized it wasn't getting them anywhere, and seem to have left.
KILL SKULS!
I remember The Column.
I remember the TF to restore Sister Psyche. -
It's too bad I8 isn't live yet, this would be a great time to be swinging that permanent undead axe.
-
So what kind of goodies are going to be available this year? Is it going to be the exact same badges as two years ago? Any new badges? New monsters?
Whatever the case, I'm exteremely psyched about it. The even two years ago was probably the funnest time I've head in the game. I love, love LOVE Halloween. But I don't get to do enough fun activities anymore. It's always the time of year when I most wish I could be a child again.
In-game Trick-or-Treating is a great time. -

My son loves Russo.
[/ QUOTE ]
Have you looked into an exorcism?
[/ QUOTE ]
Don't even get me started. My son's life is wrestling (if Chris Sabin and I were hanging off a cliff, and he could only save one of us...well, hail Sabin), so we have these long talks about the nature of the business. He's much more a "cutting edge" and "breaking kayfabe" and "pushing the envelope" kind of fan, whereas I'm much more a wrestling traditionalist who thinks it can only take so much messing with the formula before it crumbles before your eyes.
He gives Russo credit for the successes he's had, but then blames the failures largely on other folks. Sigh...
[/ QUOTE ]
Not sure if you've heard, but Russo, a VERY different man than he once was (he apparently became a Christian and wrote a book about how much he regrets the smut angles he put together), is returning to TNA. -
[cranky old man] :::shakes fist:::
Darn kids and your "islands". In MY deeeee, we didn't have no "Periginas" or "leve 50's". We had Perez Park! That's all we had and we liked it![/cranky old man]
[cranky dilusional old man]
That's right! And we didn't have any travel powers, either. We had to WALK to get to Perez Park, and it was fifffteeeeen miles in the snow! And when we got there, there were only three villains. And we all had to take turns. You spent six months there and you were lucky if you got high enough to start a Super Group. That's the way it were AND WE LIKED IT! [/cranky dilusional old man]
NOW GET OFF MY LAWN! -
Yeesh. I ask a question 2 years ago and we're still posting in it...

Stalkers' Placate ability no longer grants the same strength Stealth in PvP as Hide. It is now roughly 75\p of that value. This should reduce the ability of Stalkers to fade out of view of an entire group of players after attacking.
[/ QUOTE ]
Let me be the first to say...
DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
Ah, that felt good.
Seriously though, what do you guys think? Whenever Im attacking a team, I usually get beat down right away. Stalkers always get the most hero aggro. Even with placate, attacking a team that has half a brain and surviving is tough. Nerfing placate lowers my already low chance of survival.
AS nerf, placate nerf...looks like all the stalker nerf callers are getting their way. Cant wait for the 40-50 zone and the scrapper/tanker focused accuracy party.
What do you all think about the placate nerf?
EDIT: Added the actual text from patch notes as suggested.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why should stalkers be any different from anyone else? You show me a scrapper that can jump into the middle of a smart team and take them all out single handedly. -
O.k., waaaay to many posts to read them all at this point. So someone please PM me if you'd be so kind: what is FC?

Yep it makes me want to check out what else Top Cow has to offer in the way of comics. I swear Marvel sucks lately, and DC isn't far behind. I can use more comics like the one I read today.
[/ QUOTE ]
To me, Marvel is like Metalica, and DC is like Star Wars.
I always liked Metalica's work. Unforgiven is still one of my all time favorite songs. But ever since the original "Metalica VS. Napster" debacle ("we're anti-establishment, man! We're hard rock! The MUSIC is what maters, maaan" "what's that? Thousands of people are enjoying our music without getting them from our major record label? THAT'S AN OUTRAGE!), I've hated them as a band. Same way with Marvel, I like their work, by the as a company have been on my <bleep> list since Marvel Vs. COH started.
With DC, it's just like Star Wars. Star Wars was one of the greates trilogies of all time. The problem is, when they started making the new batch, they infused it with too much of today's ultra-trendy pop-culture, and the result was...less than the original, to put it nicely. With DC, they were, IMO, THE company. Superman. Batman. Wonder Woman. They created ICONS. But ever since they merged with Warner Brothers, they started going slowly but surely down hill, and lately, it's gotten way worse. It's like no one at their company ever READ their old stuff. I've spotted more GLARING continuity errors in the couple years or so than I did in probably the DECADE preceding it. -
Holy crap, did any of you consider that maybe he's just unconscious?

I never said Ramen was bad. Only Europeans.

Seriously? Wow. So that big jungle area where those white people came and dragged my ancestors kicking and screaming to this country was EUROPE?!
And that wide, open expanse where those white people came and slaughtered my FRIENDS ancestors, and hearded them into little reservations was EUROPE? And that place with the temples and all the rice fields where my other friend's ancestors came from so they could help build our rail-roads was EUROPE?
Wow, man, I had no idea Europe was so freaking big. -

So I was on with my SG on Champion a while ago, and we were doing the Positron TF. At one point, we were ambush right in front of Positron and Valkyrie. So here's all these guys shooting at us, trying to kill us, and Mr. Bigshot "I got my armor upgraded" and Ms. "I have this fancy spear that none of you can get!" are just kinda standing there watching.
THANKS A LOT, LEGENDARY HEROES!
Seriously, though, it would be cool if the trainers got some sort of automated power similar to the police drones. There's just something wrong about the eight most famous heroes in all of Paragon city standing there watching you get pounded on.
[/ QUOTE ]
All that crap is grey to me, no XP.
[/ QUOTE ]
And noooow the truth comes out! -
[ QUOTE ]
Y'know, it'd be nice if they DID aggro on things- but I think they don't because someone could in theory train Positron through the town, whacking everything in sight.
Though a L50 is going to vaporize most SC spawns on contact. Maybe if they have some sort of ranged attacks (even Scrappers/Controllers get decent ones) they can use to mangle things in range? I'd train stuff to Manticore just to see him use that bow before I5. :P
[/ QUOTE ]
Dude, that's what I said. I didn't say make them move and fight, I said give them an automated power like the patrol bots that just stand there at hazard zone entrances and trams and zap things. One-hit kills.
