Trez you lurk too much!
Yeah pixel is cool for opening up the forums to help with this event. -
Gravy, you don't have to be so formal, you can call me Mark.
This event was really designed to help grow the pvp population on Victory and as such I limited it to new players to pvp (I did have to turn down a few people who wanted to join but where too 'pro' to join). However, if you have an empath/pain dom you might want to play I think I do have a spot for you in this event.
And on that topic- The Champion pvp league has decided to change the time of its matches to 9pm est on Sundays, I have dropped from the league to continue to run this event however we may lose our ringer emps from both teams. At this time for sure Smallz is dropping from our event and we might lose Philly as well. So for the matches this Sunday I would tell teams P3 and PH to plan on not having the ringer emps in your lineups. If I can get seers to show, he and I can ringer emp for both teams or I will attempt to find someone else who can. -
Current Team Rosters:
P3
1) MP- (Spines/Regen)
2) Linarra(Grav/Ta)
3) Pimpstress Bambi (ill/emp)
4) Ryxx(Psi/EM)
5) Medipow- (fire/em)
6) Bug Who?- (TA/arch)
7) SunnySprite(Mind/NRG)
8) Pedro Schwartz (Grav/NRG)
9) Teh Pyro (Mind/Fire)
10) KungFu Yoshi (psi/em)
11) Smallz(Masque/Seers)
PH
1) Elegost (rad/psi)
2) Gristlebone (grav/Ta)
3) Justaris (ill/emp)
4) Wac (Psi/em)
5) Callies Rage (psi/EM)
6) Vanum (Psi/EM)
7) Flux (Mind/Fire)
8) NT- (mind/nrg)
9) War Nugget- (sonic/pain)
10) TryMe2- (Mind/Thorns)
11) Philly (Masque/Seers)
Free Agents:
Al the Grin- Mind/Thorns (48ish?)
I'd have to agree with MP about Gravy, he might be too good for this event at least this time around.
Current Scores:
P3= 26.5
PH= 35
MP scored the bonus 5pts for the homework assignment.
Remember to encourage all of your team to show up for the match this Sunday as you get 1pt per person who attends all three rounds. -
lol, I'm guess that is you SIR, idk why.
Season 2 of Boot Camp is in the works. -
Nope no lineup advice, and same time. If they change the champion league times, we can see if people want to change this time or I will need to drop from Champion league and we might lose both Philly and you.

Counter Strike
This week’s matches will be dual 3v3’s run each round- (6 players from each team will play each round)
The goal of this event will be for a team to rapidly discuss and develop a counter lineup to the lineup that the “listing” team posts.
Rules:
1) Matches will be set to SHW, with Heal Decay and Travel Suppression turned off, small inspirations only.
2) Captains may NOT play the same 3 players on the same team during various rounds. (ie, if you play person1, person 2, person 3 in round 1, you may not put those three on the same team again in round 2 or 3).
3) Any and all characters that a player has (on their global account) is eligible for this event, you are not limited to just the PvP U character you created. However, if you play a character it can not have a boost in be alpha slot.
4) All players must be played at least once.
5) The following maps are legal: Atlas, Skyway, Steel, Graveyard, Office, Tech lab, Cargo Ship, and Perez Park.
6) Resets on maps due to crashing/zoning errors/vent crashes are allowed once per round, per team, within the first 2 minutes of the match.
Points:
Win= 2.5 pts
Tie= 1 pt
Loss= 0 pts
Therefore there are a possible 4 pts per round as there will be 2 matches being run at the same time.
The listing team will broadcast its lineup and the map using the following format:
“Match 1: Rad/Psi defender, Kat/regen Scrapper, Mind/nrg Dominator. The map will be office.”
“Match 2: spines/wp stalkers x2, ele/ss tank. The map will be Atlas”
Once the matches have been listed I will start a 5 minute timer for the “non” listing team to discuss and form a counter line up to the two teams.
Once the 5 minutes are up I will ask team captain for the 3players in each match. The team then has an additional 5 minutes to switch/get insp/travel to pocket D etc.
If a team is not able to submit a lineup after the first 5 minutes they will receive a 0.5 pt deduction for that round. If a team is not able to get all their players to join the arena event listed with in the second 5 minutes there will a 0.5 pt deduction for that round. Delays due to DCing/crashing will be granted once per team.
Teams may not play a 3 stalker line up for these rounds- there must always be one visible character on map. Visible in this case means being able to be seen with just tactics running. Therefore, if a team plays 2 stalkers and a tank and the tank dc’s that team will forfeit that match.
Team PH will list the first round- So Ele will broadcast his two teams and MP will need to tell me what her team is countering with within 5 minutes of the broadcast.
Team P3 will list the second set of matches.
Each team will list one match for the 3rd round.
Prizes this week:
1 performance shifter chance for +end to each player who shows to the event.
Teams will bank 100million per win; 50 million for each tie at the end of the night, the total winnings will be dividing equally amongst the team members who showed up for the event. -
I can't remember the exact points but I think P3 ended up 1pt ahead of PH. The bonus 5pts will be granted later this week I want to have a 3rd party pick from four answers I felt were the best: Gris, Elegost, Lin and MP.

Quote:I regret to inform everyone I'm dropping out of PvP University.
Since returning to CoH I've been plagued with game crashes. I've been working with CoH Support for a month now and the only solution presented was a driver rollback that is suboptimal for my system. I find this unacceptable. My situation is not unique as several have reported the problem in the CoH Tech Forums. I strongly believe this is a problem with Issue 19 coding.
I'm not leaving CoH, but I will be spending less time playing it until this problem is resolved. I'll still be around for the occasional TF and soloing, but with limited play time, I do not want to commit to any weekly scheduled events. I apologize for bailing, but sticking around will be unfair to my team.
Masque, I will be returning all the enhancements and influence you gave me for this event. Hopefully before I leave for vacation, if not when I return.
With Apologies,
Desmodos
I am also sorry to see you dropping from this event Des. Don't worry about the IOs and Inf, those were prizes awarded for showing up and participating and as such you earned them.
If we do a season2 maybe you can join us then. -
Quote:It greatly helps for those long-ranging him to call out when the bubble is back up, because those in close can't physically see it, or the "unaffected" that comes up, so they waste too much time attacking needlessly. If possible, get used to the timeframe it is down, and preemptively call out the bubble (by 1 or 2 seconds) so everyone can bail and get to their box spawns as they come, then back to the Aspect within 10-20 seconds.
You should keep 1 person on each team (who can deal damage from range) at their respective cube. That way when the AV's bubble goes up, the team just clicks on that person then "f" to auto follow and everyone ends up where they need to be.

Homework- Week 4- Non Match Week
So this Sunday we will be practicing together but there will not be an official match, however I'd still like to keep people thinking about PvP so what I'd like to do is offer up some Homework for points.
I will give you guys 2 hypothetical lineups and I want you each to come up with counter lineups. Points will be given as follows:
0.5 pts for just submitting an answer
0.5 pts for correctly identifying what the opposing team 'may' be trying to run (ie.. their strategy)
1pt for offering up a viable counter line up and strategy.
In addition 5 bonus pts will be given to the best answer from the group as a whole.
This homework will be open to the ringer emps as well however, they are not eligible for the bonus points.
Rewards this week-
Everyone who submits an answer will receive 20 million influence.
Scenario 1:
You are entering an 8v8 match and your opponent selects atlas as their map choice. You are locked into running a standard jump team and when you join the arena event you see that the opposing team is made up of 6 peacebringers and 2 emps.
Scenario 2:
You have been challenged to a duel by an elec/thermal corr who wants to fight you FITEKLUB style no insp, no accolades, no running!!!
Sample Question:
You are facing off in a 8v8 against a team running a Mind/FF controller, 2 elec/wp Stalkers, a earth/nrg dom, 2 psi/em blasters and 2 mind/emp controllers. It is their map pick and they choose Graveyard. Your team is running a standard jump team: 2 ill/emps, 4 psi/ems, grav/ta and Mind/nrg dom.
Answer:
I would assume that 3 mind controllers and an earth dom, their strategy would be to set up double assassin strikes by alternating TK from the 3 Mind controllers and the long lasting Stun from the earth dom. I am guessing they picked the Graveyard because it is pretty hard to break line of sight there, so even if the target starts to evade after the stalkers start their AS animations the damage will still hit.
To counter this I would place the Grav/ta on the dom to keep him grounded, immobilized, worm holed, glued and whatever else the grav can throw at him. The main spike target would be the Mind controller and then switching off to the dom. By keeping the pressure on the mind controller you will keep that person evading and not allow them to set up the double assassin strike. As long as locks are fast and spikes are clean, the emps will be too busy healing/buffing to throw out too many TK's themselves.
For Scenario 1- A standard jump team would be a damage heavy team with maybe 2 emps, 4 blasters, grav/ta and dom
For scenario 2- You are 'not' dueling on your pvp boot camp character. Assume that this guy is just broadcast pvping you in arena chat and said "I can beat anything you got!" You can bring any AT and power sets, I really just want you to identify what his build's threat is and find a way to counter it. -
Some people are writting thesis statements (I'm looking at you Ele) about these questions so I thought I should give you an example of what I am looking for.
(Btw, pretty cool analogy between the Peloponnesian war and the PB team, not sure I got all that but the diagrams and scale models you made out of pixel sticks and hubba bubba bubble gum were pretty amazing).
Example:
You are facing off in a 8v8 against a team running a Mind/FF controller, 2 elec/wp Stalkers, a earth/nrg dom, 2 psi/em blasters and 2 mind/emp controllers. It is their map pick and they choose Graveyard. Your team is running a standard jump team: 2 ill/emps, 4 psi/ems, grav/ta and Mind/nrg dom.

Grav/Ta its not just whats for dinner.
-
You can discuss with teammates, I have no issues with that, anyone who has already submitted can resub.
Remember what I am looking for here is trying to get you to think "Why did these guys bring PBs to this match" and "Why is this guy wanting to fiteklub on that toon" answering that way will most definately get you most of the points.
There is no "absolute" answer, yes people have run this very lineup or at least suggested it.
I'd respond now to everyone's answers but since they arent due till Sunday I think I should wait till practice and explain on vent... sounds good? -
They are emps! Doesn't matter!
-
2 more levels for my bluesided Paindom. Should be ready by this weekend.
-
Yep! Travel Supression, Heal Decay off, SHW, small insp for the 1st one, insp turned off for the 2nd one.
-
You are still part of PvP U (I hope!) it might be super beneficial if sometime we could get a Emp class from you, Smallz and Philly are helping with this event but the more knowledge the better!
As far as setting up duels or even 8v8s while this group of great players has progressed tremendously, I think fighting against a 'test' team would not be beneficial at this time.
It would be awesome if we could two teams to scrimmage and allow the students to watch and maybe listen in on vent. I know a few of the participants have come over to Champion to watch the matches there. -
