This was the mid-day pick me up I needed. <3 this forum.

Quote:I dunno on that one...going for S/L Def, any +Res bonus would be nice (hopefully he has Tough and Steamy Mist with that combo).Just yesterday I suggested Vigor for a SG members Earth/Storm/Stone Troller.
Was in need of ENDRED, has no resists to buff, and Vigor buffs the healing to not only her O2 Boost, but bigger heal for that Earth's Embrace, with tacked on +ACC.
I did think of suggesting Intuition as it seems to go really nice with the combo, but it doesn't help the endurance issues at all. -
As already stated - Dark Armor.
Cloak of Fear has a crappy +Acc out of the box, and even slotted up right falls pretty short. If you're building for +Def with sets like ToD or Kinetic Combats, you'll be needing some +Acc to make sure those connect and Vigor handles that, along with CoF....and it helps with the toggles...and it helps with Dark Regen when you don't have enough foes in range to easily cap/refill the green bar.
I'm also using Dark Melee as my primary - so the bonus of getting more oomph from Siphon Life rocks.
IMO - Agility = EA or Ice Armors .... Vigor = Dark Armor ....To each their own, though. -
-
I've never seen that - but would like too....
I'd be very surprised if you were able to do that, even with the vanguard acc and every attack landing on him. -
Quote:Dark Armor - +Acc for low acc attacks (like Cloak of Fear, or Melee attacks slotted with Kinetic Combats), -End for all the toggles, +Heal for Siphon Life/Dark Regeneration. It's what I went with on my brute, anyway...and it's a perfect fit.I took Resilient on my "Ultimate Survival" Stone tank concept... My "Hold Bot" Ice/Dark Corruptor took Intuition... I've used Agility on a build or two... However, I'm still trying to find a build other than Empathy or Pain Domination where Vigor would actually be useful.
Nothing's coming to me. -
Did a few other tweaks (swapped oblits for erads in WS for extra HP, and E/N DEF). Moved some other slots around for better recovery, and put another slot in CP to increase up-time. I have a similarly built TW/WP - trust me, you'll need extra +Recovery and CP, especially in a solo environment without buffs flying all around. Also capped HPT for HP, puts you over 2300 with the accolades. Higher HP = More regen.

Quote:Did the leader turn the mission in? Did folks quit the team, or log off?Im kinda curious how did you not get booted from the TF when the last player left?
I was in a iTF this past Tuesday as part of the WTF, when we were on the last mission and completed the TF everyone else wanted to leave. So I asked the leader if I could stay to mop up the extras that were left over with my scrapper.
Once the last person left the TF, I got booted out of it. So my question is, I know you had to have at least 6 people to start the TF, but how did you not get booted out of it? -
I have a 50 (+3 on trials) Dark/Dark/Soul that I've been playing a good bit lately. The lack of Energy Resistance can hurt on the iTrials, so just keep that in mind...but the generous heals from Dark Regen and Siphon Life come in handy allowing your other forms of mitigation to kick in.
The -To Hit from CoF is handy, if you can spare the slots. It's the low acc bonus in the power that makes it annoying (but Alpha slot <yay Vigor's +End Redux, +Acc, +Healing> can help with that). OG is a 1-slot wonder but it can actually make mobs walk around/away if you don't handle them quickly enough, which is an issue with the lack of burst AoE from this combo. SD + DO is okay, but...well it's no Fiery Embrace + Burn.
It's a different type of toon to play, but I'm finding it fun. Dark is quite endurance heavy, so any type of +End Redux Alpha is almost a must, if you're not going with Ageless or Physical Perfection/Superior Conditioning from the Brute ancillary pool.
Even with accolades and Vigor Alpha, I'm still finding myself in situations where Dark Consumption isn't back up and I'm having to eat a few blues. I hate any endurance issues on my toons once they're IO'd - so this probably bothers me more than other folks that would just pop a blue and carry on.
My live build is around 39% S/L Def, and 32% E/N Def - It does just fine with the heals you have and the -to hit from your powers helps add that extra safety. The only thing I will say is when that defense is gone (which happens more than you'd like) the only thing saving you is those heals. +Rech all the way after you reach your +Def goes, and for me that meant hasten was a must. -
Wow at the folks jumping all over the DM guy....and for the "ego" he seems to have, I'd defend myself too if folks came at me the same way. If he wouldn't have posted a time, folks what ask him what it was...now that he has, he's bragging. Can't win here, can you?
Anyway...
I have a Fire/Fire/MU on Exalted, and a Elec/Fire/Mu on Freedom. My Alt Account has a SS/Fire as well - they're all pretty comparable honestly. Rage crash is no fun, but it makes for small window to use Consume/Judgement/Destiny/etc. Of the three I enjoy my Elec/Fire/Mu the most b/c of the fun I have with LS. TS with the FF Proc also helps keep it up pretty often (every 23 seconds or so) and like many others have said all you really need is Burn/BlazingAura/ElecFences/Ball Lightning to keep you churning along....anything primary will work - to a less efficient extent.
I had an Claws/Fire but deleted it at 45 b/c I just couldn't stand the redraw anymore. I have a DM/Fire at 43ish in Champion - hopefully it'll be finished soon. In a typical PvE environment I can see DM offering a solid performance with Soul Drain, strong single target and enough AoE from the rest of your Secondary/Epic to keep things under control. The extra bonus of -to hit, another +endu power and a self-heal in your ST chain are just gravy. -
Just wanted to echo what DarkSideLeague just mentioned. I have a 50 TW/WP Scrapper with Body Mastery, and even with QR/PP/Stam 4 slotted with Perf. Shifters (+Endu Proc) AND Miralce/Numina's Procs in health - I still can chew through the blue bar when staying in momentum and spamming my AoE's. (Also has Atlas Acc + Portal Jockey) I suspect going with the Heal/Endu/Acc Alpha (Vigor, I think?) would fix these issues entirely - but since I have a lot of Erads and Kinetic Combats I wanted the +Rech to keep my attack chains smooth so I went with Spiritual.
It's a very workable combo - but just be prepared to eat blues occasionally or slot for heavy endu redux on your attacks...
<grumble> I think Arc of Destruction needs the base endu dropped a bit...I mean it's no footstomp </grumble> -
Glad to read that you're pleased with yours! My build is below. Thunderclap + OG = stunned bosses which makes Soul Drain/Dark Consumption safe to fire off. Also at at E/N/R softcap (45.7%). Went for a bit of HP as well (and Tough for the S/L Res). Plan on going with Rebirth also.

I swear this game has the most awesome community out of any I've ever played...
Looking forward to seeing the results! -
Quote:So it hasn't always been like this with ATI cards?Build 11.2 is pretty stable. Im on latest now and I do notice graphical lag every so often. I still LoL cuz ever since the last issue came out its been like this xD
Anyone know what exactly the issue is, or what would be helpful for a solid fix? -
/e grief
I just upgraded from a Nvidia 9800GT (3 year old card) to an ATI 6770 today. Everything at the exact same settings resulted in marginally poorer performance than it did on the much older (and much, much slower) card. If this is an improvement over how it used to be before these were released, I'd hate to play it before hand.
I'm using 11.9 currently - rest of the system is a Core2 e8200@3.2, 4GB DDR2, 120GB SSD, Win7 64 - playing at 1920x1200. Every single one of my other games have had frame rates jump in leaps and bounds save for CoH...
Anyone care to fill me in on the problem? -
Quote:Awesome video! For comparison sake, do you have your build posted anywhere? If not, would you be willing to share? Looks like your were using Tier4 Musc/Reactive?When demons first came out I was torn between thermal and pain dom. This was back when thermal buffs were still single target casts. This + forging every pet as soon as it was recharged felt like it was Force Field ALL OVER AGAIN. so i decided to really number crunch pain dom to see HOW inferior it was to thermal. Honestly deacon nailed it, Its resistance is A MINISCULE diff to thermal a whooping 5-6% ED capped but atleast pain also offers a psi resist.
Next reason I choose pain was the fact I wanted to use my whip attacks more often and since world of pain was back then a set it and forget it buff, pain dom won again.
Finally I HATED how the damn demon prince needed END redux IOs and so i just go lazy and perma painbringer him so that I can maximize the slow, dmg, acc, and procs on him instead of end redux.
Oh and here is my demons/pain vs AVs. No -regen at all
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYsVEzS9jrU
Edit: Saw the info at the end of the video, still wouldn't mind seeing the mids though. xP

Anyone actually roll one of these? Curious how the set plays end-game without a (set-included) heal, and how all of those -Res attacks stack.
-
/em clap
Seriously impressive. I've wanted to revisit a Kheldian toon for a while on a human-only build. I deleted both my PB and WS in their early 40's due to the lack of dmg and survivability...now I'm wishing I would have stuck with it to see the end result.
THB - Do you have any other videos of your toon in action? +2x8 Malta/Longbow/Carnies/Arachnos/etc? Curious how it does with mob types with a wider variety of tricks.
Does anyone think something like this would be possible on a PB? -
^^
Wasn't 30%...I'd say more like 60%....just picking nits, although it's double your estimate.
Also - I am sad panda with this. My Dark/Dark Brute will somehow manage, though. -
PowerLeveling is okay, just do it marginally slower than you do it now plz.
... O_o -
Welll....as of now only Virtue is up, and of course it's in the red and hitting lagrifficness.
Hey Devs - I know you guys are busting tail to get us going ASAP, but with all the up and downs the past month or so (more so past few weeks) how about tossing us a bone? Free server transfers for a weekend? A surprise double-XP weekend? Heck...I'd enjoy the dickens out of the Halloween event too.
Think about it... -
Quote:That ^^So you know if the Mac has an intel processor you can use bootcamp to dual boot the mac into windows. All you really need is the license key off that dead HP computer for windows. The bootcamp does a sort of partition magic and you can select how big you want your windows side to be.
I do computer forensics and our office uses mac a lot. I run my tools in a VM on the mac side as well. But not all tools work in a VM for licensing issues so I need windows from time to time as well.
which brings me to my next option. Stay on the mac side and use VMware Fusion to install a version of windows on your mac side in a VM session. That is what I do to use MIDs. Just remember to save your builds out side the VM. The VM can get corrupted from time to time and I did loose some of my builds because I had to revert to a previous snap shot.
BTW great info from the OP. I might have to rework a bunch of builds myself now.
(re: Intel Mac's) Bootcamp is bundled and free, and will even download the windows based control panel to keep the mac-centric buttons in line. Just source a copy of your old installation media and have at it. You can always get an iso online as well (nothing tampered/modified, just a clean image of the OS you have they OEM key for) if you cannot locate your install discs. If your machine is stout, Fusion is hard to beat for having both OS's live simultaneously. -
I have both on two different servers. The brute is a ticket farmer and there to help the SG get levels, the Scrapper is for everything else outside of AE. I don't need taunt on a scrapper if I'm on a team, I need to kill stuff fast...and that's what he does. I built for 33% S/L and 25ish E/N....a purple makes me plenty tough for most content.
Make one. It's awesome. -
Quote:Painbringer and Adrenaline Boost are what you should be comparing, both of which can be made perma. The RA's (+Regen/+Recovery) are an Emp only AoE thing. AB also gives a 100% Rech buff while Painbringer gives a dmg buff (again...everyone having perma AB on everyone....lots of crazy recharge and damage). The Res cap wouldn't be doing all that much for the Pains when the Emps have everyone softcapped to every damage type from Fort, while also having capped perma Regen from AB and RA's.Pain and Emp both offer the same +recovery (Edit: just looked it up and the recovery from Pain is actually 4x the recovery from Emp but either way, it doesn't matter).
The difference is Pain is single target and perma-able and Emp is aoe but not perma-able. If you are talking a team full of Pain V a team full of Emps, it doesn't matter, everyone in either team will be at max recovery permanently. It would be easier on pain though just designating one person each had to keep their buffs on permanently when it recharged Vs trying to stagger buffs from the Emp to make sure they don't run out.
The defense thing is a bit of a non issue, with 8 sets of Manouevers running and some defense from pool powers/IO, everyone on an all emp team and an all pain team are going to have capped defenses. Defense is extremely easy in this game to get but Resistance isn't. The all Pain team will be capped on resists and defense while the all Emp team will only be capped on Defense.
A team of Emps will never be as good as a team of Pains. Their mitigation is worse, their healing is worse, their damage is worse and they are harder to play.
I don't think the gap would be as big as you're making it out to be. In fact, the only reason I see pain going ahead would be due to the AoE Debuffs/Scourge. -
Re: Pain VS Thermal (since it was brought up)
It may have been already said, but I find Pain a better defensive set, and Thermal a better offensive set. I went through the same decision recently and the following are just my opinions on the matter.
With 2 lvl 50 Common IO's for each applicable enhancement value...Plasma Shield / Fire Shield = 22.5% Res to S/L/F/C vs. World Of Pain = 17% Res to S/L/F/C/Toxic & Psi (Plus 15% To Hit and 16% DMG buff, plus the placate protection). I think Pain comes out the farthest ahead here since it offers resists to those exotic types and gives you leadership-pool level bonuses without the toggle costs. I'd say this wins over Forge also since you give that +DMG and +ToHit to the entire team, at once, and it's easily perma.
Heals are comparable, but obviously in the favor Pain with Soothing Aura and the "Oh teh noes! Squishy fire brute that just pulled nightstar is about to faceplant" button. Also handy for when Lord Recluse hits that stone tank when the RNG isn't in your favor. Thaw = Enforced Morale (though that extra 5% rech may give someone perma PA, Hasten, Domination, etc...).
Anguishing Cry comes back 120 sec (before enhances) which is 30 seconds faster than Melt Armor, and it does an more Def Debuff (30% vs 20%). I still say they're a tie since MA is ranged vs AC's PBAoE.
Biggest difference? Heat Exhaustion vs PainBringer. One hurts that hard target, and one makes a team member a hard target. Both sides of the fence, really.
Honestly, either set can swap out for the other with a little change in playstyle and be just as effective....but for me the choice this time around was Pain Dom.
--
I posted that a while back and figured it was easier to just copy/paste then reinvent the wheel. I prefer Pain to EMP's much much more b/c of the AoE team buffs to DMG/ToHit/Res, and still having the option to get leadership if you wanted to for even more support. The AoE Debuff is also pretty nice, and seldom resisted too b/c of it's type of attack. If you want an offensive-ish healing set that can do most of what a EMP can do, definitely give Pain a go. Add in Ageless if you want fill the +Endu gap from the lack of RA's. You're already heals-a-plenty as is.
