That will give those that need it an extra hour to sleep off the effects of Saturday night.
Heading to Houston in a couple of hours to catch my flight.
See you all Saturday. Some I may see on Friday. -
Quote:This is the Discussion Thread for the announcement that the Origin Pack is now on sale.Odd. This seems to be the discussion thread, and I don't see anyone saying that. What "facts" am I checking? *reads the thread again* Where does it say that?
Phewmite is referring to the Discussion Thread for the announcement of the Origin Pack, including what was in it, including a link to the YouTube trailer for it that showed off the capes and auras.
Quote:Have you ever wished you could proudly wield your origin as a banner in front of your fiercest adversaries or even amongst fellow heroes or villains*? Your origin contributes to making you a unique citizen in Paragon City, the Rogue Isles or Praetoria. You've trained hard to follow the natural arts? You've worked tirelessly on your invocations and spells? Painful scientific experimentations have made you a powerful creature to reckon with? Technological advances have bestowed you with the ability to transcend your limits? Or maybe you are the product of a freak accident?
Discover the City of Heroes® Origins Pack.
When it becomes available through the NCsoft Store on November 3rd, 2010, the City of Heroes Origins Pack will provide your characters with new customization options based on the five character Origins: Magic, Mutant, Natural, Science, and Technology.
New Origins Auras*
- Magic: Runes, Tarot Cards.
- Mutant: Toxic Vapor, Bio Plasma.
- Natural: Leaves, Thunderhead.
- Science: Atomic, Cryogenics.
- Technology: Steamjets, Sparks.
New Origin Capes*
In addition to the new auras, your character can choose one of these five stunning capes:
- Cloak of the Eighth Circle
- Spliced
- Autumnal
- Unified Field Façade
- Impervium Mantle.
Watch the new City of Heroes Origins Pack trailer now for a taste of things to come!
* Please note Origin Auras and Capes are not locked to your origin and can be freely accessed by any of your characters from level 1.
Quote:I can indeed confirm that these pieces are not tied to your character's origin. The name and design of the pack is thematic around the origins, but not hard coded into your choices.
Out of curiosity, what made you think that they were origin restricted? I know that the link in the first post to the CoH website announcement of it mentions that it isn't tied to your origin. -
Problems that affect random people at random times are likely very difficult to track down. Not everyone is having problems making purchases on the site. Some that were having problems had it clear up later and were able to purchase. Random people and random times.
If you've filed a support ticket on the support site, update it asking what information they need you to provide to resolve the issue. Keep updating it every 2 days until you get a response.
EDIT: The Devs and Admins don't have access to the Store site. They are in California and the Store is run from Austin. If you don't want to wait on them to email you back, call them at the number listed on the support site. -
You are using an old version of CoH Helper. It doesn't report all the new graphics settings. Current version is 0.2.0.2

Quote:The Community Reps are too busy bouncing between servers for their costume contests.I just wonder why the Lead Developer had to convey this information, instead of a Community Rep. Not that I don't enjoy seeing War Witch post, but I didn't even know about Praetorian signing bonuses until I read this post.

I'm looking forward to seeing most of you next weekend.
I wonder if I can invade Paragon Studios on Friday afternoon.
If not, I'll have to invade an office in Los Gatos where I know someone who has recently been hired. -
One thing to remember.
If you are on a character that already has credit for a particular costume drop, we'll use a totally fictitious temp costume called Emporer Cole, if that particular costume drops again you won't see it drop since you already have it but it will count towards the Clothes Horse badge. -
Not for me. I use the Quit to Desktop and Exit Now options most of the time.

Quote:lolfiteklubHeh. I tried to solo Baphomet as an AV on my ill/rad using fiteklub rules (no insp, no temps). I could get him down to 25% of HP, he would heal back to 50%, and by the time I got him down to 25% again, his heals were recharged already... So frustrating!

Meh. The Television is just lucky that pohsyb has chosen to remain silent in this thread. The Television knows that he cannot match up with the sheer awesomeness of the backwards bishop.

Since you don't give any information about when it's freezing, if certain actions cause the freezing, or any other information about it, be aware that there are known problems with both the RivaTuner and EVGA Precision tool. If they are running and you try to open a contact window, a tailor window, an auction house window or many other items then these programs cause the game to freeze. As Starcloud said, running so many of these programs at the same time could also be a problem. I'd recommend shutting them down entirely and see if the game still freezes. Also, if it does, give us some examples of what you are doing when it freezes. Sometimes that will tell us what the cause is. The more information you can give about the problem, the easier it is for people to be able to help you.

Quote:You have it all wrong. Justice didn't need help, but Justice always has open arms (and places at the dinner table) for anyone that wants to join us. Just ask Red Valkyrja, infallibe (from Virtue), Grazel (from Virtue) and any of the others that have joined us. Most find us so awesome that they create characters on Justice just to be around us.Justice knew that they would stand a chance if they took us alone. So they had to ask other servers for assistance. That's just shows how awesome Protector is!
EDIT: Oh, and I'll be there, but you may not quite recognize me. Then again, you might recognize me but not know that it's me unless you check the global.

Quote:Nope, not a bug, that's WAI.I was thinking, and I realized that I made the character during the GR free weekend. I bet that has something to do with it. This is still a bug, nonetheless.
These costume parts are part of Going Rogue. If you don't have Going Rogue, you don't get the parts. They enabled your access to them during the Reactivation Weekend but the weekend is over. As long as you don't try to edit the costume slot that has the shoulder pads, you can keep them on that slot. The only way you will lose them is if you edit that slot and finalize the transaction. I know players that have characters with the Malaise pants that were removed in ... Issue 2 or 3 I think. They use their other 4 slots for costumes they edit but keep the slot with those pants unedited so that they can keep them.
It's the same situation as if you had created the character in Praetoria, you wouldn't be able to access that character until you purchased GR. The same as if you had created a Hero or Villain using one of the 4 new powersets. You wouldn't have access to that character until you purchased GR. -
Well, you people are stuck with me. I've booked a flight out (thank you frequent flyer miles), a hotel (pre-paid for the discount), and I'll get some BART tickets once I get to the airport. I'll pick up the BART SFO travel pack and will get tickets as I need them for other travel. I'll likely get some Muni tickets as well.
In other words, you folks are stuck with me once again. Someone be prepared to entertain me once I hit town. -
I haven't completely made up my mind on this, but wanted to go ahead and post my current thoughts on how my plans for the weekend will go if I attend.
Take off from work on Friday, fly out from Houston to San Francisco. Check into a really cheap hotel for 2 nights. Use BART, cable cars and (if absolutely necessary) taxis for transportation. Of course, once in the area of Elephant & Castle I'll be on foot as walking while sight-seeing isn't a problem. Fly back to Houston late Sunday morning or early Sunday afternoon. Drive back home from Houston.
Friday afternoon, Friday night, Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon and possibly Sunday morning I'll be looking for low-cost entertainment, sight-seeing and meals. I'll most likely be at whatever Justice get-together that Red Gren comes up with. Oh, and for you non-Justice players (shame on you) feel free to join us. We don't exclude people from other servers. If I can arrange it, I'd like to be able to get together with Chris, Jill and Liz at some point over the weekend, just to get to say hi and see old friends. -
Hasten is staying selected as Auto for me on the characters that have it. Other characters that have a power selected as Auto are still using those powers and they are staying selected as Auto.
-
Quote:Well, now I have a different dilemma. I had forgotten about my flight miles. Using those I can fly out for $5. So much for that cost/benefit ratio.I had pretty much figured that you probably wouldn't be making it this year. You're going to be missed, TJ. And that goes for Infallible as well.
If I can get someone I know to split a room, we could stay at a hotel close to the venue for around $125 each. Not bad for the quality of the rooms and the short walk. Factor in food, drinks, and incidentals and I'm looking at less than $200. Now it's in a much better cost/benefit ratio but I still have other factors to consider. I can still likely get by under $225 if I stay at alone at a hotel that is a longer walk away from the venue.
Several of the regulars I've enjoyed seeing at past events likely won't be there. Liquid has already said he won't so there's two people I'll miss, and I can think of about 5 or so others that likely won't be there. And then there's Chris. Visiting with him was one of the things I always looked forward to, and that won't be possible anymore unless it's at a player organized event such as Red Gren's Justice dinners.
I'm keeping my options open for now until I get a chance to talk to a few people about splitting a room. We'll see how it goes, but I'll have to decide fairly soon in order to use my miles. -

I've heard too many odd things from people using Steam to even hazard a guess. Not just with this game, but with other games as well.

Quote:Running the installer doesn't always cause it to overwrite existing registry entries, which is why it isn't the same as uninstalling (which does remove the registry keys) and then running the installer (which finds no existing registry keys so it writes totally new ones). But the installer was used, so the registry keys should have been removed. Anyway, that wasn't what caused that. It was that the directory it wanted to make (e.g. E:\Programs\City of Heroes\City of Heroes) already existed and the installer/patcher didn't know how to just make it work with that.

Quote:The numbers that I've crunched so far after looking at flight prices tells me that I'll be staying in Texas this year. I hadn't even gotten to hotel prices and I can see that it isn't economically feasible for me. Reading Liquid's comments on the hotel prices means I just saved myself a little bit of time by not going that far in the cost calculations.Wish we could have gotten a little more notice on this. I'll have to crunch some numbers, but I'm not sure it's worth it to fly out just for a M&G. The first M&G was awesome because there was a fabulous bit afterward where we could just chat with the devs, but I'd wager something that informal would be shut down now. Not sure it's worth the expense to fly out from here in beautiful Austin, Texas.
Of course, I also wish we could have gotten a Hero Con, but that's a dead horse.
It saddens me since I made the '07 M&G at D&B, the '08 HeroCon and the '09 HeroCon. The trip to the Bay Area had become the one thing I really looked forward to all year. But, with other recent news, I'm finding fewer reasons to look forward to it and the costs just aren't justified for me.
I hope that all that attend have a fantastic time. Maybe Red Gren can come up with some idea for the Justice people that won't be attending who have been a regular part of the past events. -
It's not the equivalent of a complete uninstall/reinstall from what you've posted. During an uninstall/reinstall the registry keys are removed during the uninstall and then rewritten during the reinstall.
Your registry entries are likely showing the installation location to be on the C drive which is why it keeps reinstalling there. -
Quote:He's been gone as of yesterday. He didn' break off all communications with the community, he set his PM box to refuse PM's and cut back on his posting. He still posted during Beta testing and there were some in the community that he had more interaction with.
I am not sure how long he has been gone though. I found it really odd when he broke off all communication with the community he had been a large part of.
There are still some in the community he interacts with through other sites as well.
Anytime they've had layoffs or a reduction of force in the past they haven't allowed those leaving to post a goodbye post. Usually it's only been the Community Team that we've seen posts from that they were leaving, but then we've not really had a Dev as well known and as well liked as Chris leave before except Sean's off and on work for the game and possibly Zeb Cook (another we didn't get a goodbye post). Of course, Jack didn't really post a goodbye post either, we got the news that he was really and truly gone at the Bay Area Meet & Greet when they announced that NCSoft had bought out Cryptic's share of the game. -
Well, I intended to post screenies, but mine came out really dark. And some idjit (that would be me) forgot to turn off the UI in the screenshots.
Sorry all.
It was a fantastic turnout and a nice tribute to a really good guy.
Thanks Chris.
