I once started an Ill/Therm named Dream of Flame as a concept build (though when I put it into Mid's I found that it would be a great build mechanically--EXTREMELY versatile, and it was hitting permahasten with no real purples, 2 LotG, and no major build sacrifices). She was a vengeful fairy whose home realm was destroyed; the Illusion was fey trickery and the fire was pale green to get a "fairy fire" effect. I played up the historical fairy aspect--she wasn't the kind of fairy from a little girl's coloring book, she was the kind of fairy that has people whispering fearfully about the "kind ones."
I deleted her because I wanted to play something more "controlly," but I'm still fond of the concept and power combination.
Incidentally, when talking about purples, please keep in mind that you can (and really should) pick up 5 or 6 of the Confuse purples for Deceive. They have better set bonuses than the rest of the purples, and you can usually get the whole set for under 100 million Inf. -

Does anyone have any strong affinity for Frostworks or Spirit Tree?
I have a Plant/Cold Controller that has one power (single-slotted) I can't decide what to use as. I was originally leaning towards Assault or Tactics, but I'm not sure I want the extra toggle as I don't like leaning on Heat Loss too heavily. My other pools give me less interesting options--Super Jump, Jump Kick or Flurry, Whirlwind, or Swift--and I don't think I want Snow Storm.
I'm currently trying to decide between Frostworks and Spirit Tree. Frostworks seems like it'd be more useful as something with only 1 slot, but I also don't see myself paying a great deal of attention to keeping people buffed, and I know that many characters don't benefit from it because the HP cap is so low. Spirit Tree simply doesn't impress me, especially with only 1 Heal for slotting. -
I'm not sure how well it will stack up to other sets, but it seems like it has potential. The redraw will be annoying, but you always have that on /TA Controllers, so deal with it; the -Fly on Entangling Arrow will be handy at times for Plant; double holds is always wonderful; the -Res arrows are better for Plant than personal +Dam powers because of the amount of damage you do from procs, pets, and confuse; the number of procs you can stick in TA goes with Plants' theme of bleeding tons of inf into procs; the -Dam on Gas Arrow will actually reduce the (already minor) XP-per-mob hit that you take by spamming an AoE Confuse; Oil Slick will go well with your AoE damage schtick if they ever fix it; EMP Arrow always rocks.
In the absence of someone with more experience, it looks fine to me.
(I myself have a level 42 Plant Controller and a level 23 /TA Mastermind, and I sometimes duo with a Trick Arrow Defender who is around level 35.) -
Quote:I was thinking multiple copies, since plenty of other things get duplicated (e.g. Statesman). Why would my "Global Handle PR Rep" exist cross-server, anyway? They are multi-dimensional journalists and news honkeys and agents? I don't think so. There's an exact-same copy in each dimension? I don't think so.
Quote:Why would my Global Handle PR Rep work for close to 120 heroes and villains (and soon to be Praetorians as well)? Wouldn't get enough time to sleep between all the article writing and phone answering and hand waving. Not to mention the really awkward hours when there are 13 heroes and 27 villains waiting in the same waiting room on their appointment with their rep. Really, really big waiting room.
And of course you can't cover them all at once! You can switch between them rapidly, but really you can only follow their exploits one at a time, just like you can only play one character at a time. I was thinking of playing the characters (OOC) being analogous to researching their exploits and writing stories about them (IC).
Soul Train: I'm not saying anything is broken, nor am I saying They have a good reason to implement something like this (that I know of). I mostly just thought it'd be an interesting idea to kick around, especially to see if anyone else had a better idea for a possible in-game significance of global handles. -
I think our global handles should have some sort of official in-game meaning. Most metagame details have some sort of in-game representation, like the server "shards." I don't know if the "doesn't make sense in game" angle is a factor in the devs' refusal to put in a mail system or the ability to invite yourself to your own super group, but it occurs to me as a possibility.
Mostly, though, this is more of a thought exercise than an actual suggestion.
My idea was "press agent" (or journalist, or reporter--something along those lines). Some or many players would resent just about any attempt to force a story connection between their characters, but one thing that connects all of our characters is that the public is more or less aware of them, as shown by Inf, contacts, NPC chatter, etc. Thus, whether the character likes it or not, there must be someone in the media paying attention to their exploits. The global handle represents the media person closest to the hero in terms of the flow of information.
Other ideas? -

Quote:No the -fly isn't missed too much late game. They really don't incorporate too many groups that use fly heavily. Don't get me wrong, its nice to have but given the strength of plant, I'm not sure you are going to miss it that much.

When i11 hit Test, people crowded into the tailors to check out the customizable weapons. It took very little time for someone to notice that we had Dev-only costume parts, and not much longer for some players to realize what that meant, and not much longer after that for some Stalkers to work out the slash command that would put them in the Steel Canyon Icon. Yeah, that was messy.
The servers were only up for 3-5 minutes before the real Devs yanked the power, and the people who worked out the monster-spawning code never did figure out which tag would spawn the Hamidon on Atlas' globe, but it was still the best bug ever. -
My Plant Controller is level 32. My build could work in Snow Storm, but it'd be rather inconvenient.
How important is it to have -Fly as Plant in the late game? Will I seriously regret not having Snow Storm against any particular group? -
A Tank with Ice Melee colored pink could also work. I find Fire a bit weird because of the fact that fire of any color still looks like fire, but Ice looks a bit more like you're summoning some sort of mental construction, and it even gets you some -Rech like a real Psi set would.
Personally, my favorite for "Psi Scrapper" is Claws with pink Vanguard blades, followed by Dual Blades with the same (although I dislike the weapon draw animation for DB because you truly appear to be drawing real swords). It has a very believable "these are my mindblades and I will now stab you" effect.
This could be personal bias due to those sets reminding me of Starcraft's Zealot and DnD's Soulknife, though. I think of Psi Melee as more of a "I use psychic powers to cut you" set and less of a "I punch you, which hurts primarily your mind" set. -
I have an extension of this question.
I've had a solo SG for a while, and I don't really want to trust someone with Founder privileges over my base at this point, but I want to transfer leadership.
As it currently stands, I have 7 heroes at the rank with a diamond, one at the red star supreme commander rank, and one at the no-icon rank (my hired help forgot to promote her). If the supreme commander drops from the group entirely, that should pass off the red star--but how do I ensure that the correct character gets it? What is the selection process? -
Has anyone actually tried contacting support and arguing for a personal favor? That might also be worth a shot.
"Look, I know I'm not supposed to be able to buy it for someone else, but can I not just purchase it and have you manually apply it to their account?" -
This is interesting, though nowhere near as cool as that time that the devs accidentally flagged all players as devs.
(Of course, nothing is anywhere near as cool as that time that the devs accidentally flagged all players as devs...) -
No, the hero is at 27 right now.
You may have a point about the fourth slot in Benumb; I turned that into an Explosive Strike proc in Fissure, as you suggested.
I'm on the fence about Tactics. This build doesn't have as much global +Acc as I'd like, especially before I get the Purples, and the perception bonus is nice; on the other hand, as you pointed out, Sleet will help with Accuracy when I get it. Hmmm... I'm not sure about Vines, though, it's less interesting to me poorly slotted.
Recall Friend or Assault could be nice; I was considering taking one of them instead of Earth's Embrace, in fact.
Edit: I could take Hover or Grant Invis and give it a LotG+R, allowing me to put a sixth Red Fortune in Arctic Fog and get another global defense bonus, except that I'm full on power pools. I could take Rock Armor instead of Earth's Embrace, but I find it distasteful to take powers I won't use much just to slot IO's in them (unslotted Rock Armor isn't very useful because of all my positional defense). I may have to make an exception here, though.
Edit 2: There's also the option of Tactics->Assault (or keep it Tactics), Earth Embrace-> Vengeance. Vengeance can take a LotG+R. -
The Hero is at level 27 right now. Since this build will be expensive by my standards (LotG but no real purples), I'd like to make sure I didn't slip up and do something silly.

Quote:Um... OK...Somewhat like Phantom Army for an Illusionist, one of the better aspects of Carrion Creepers is their ability to draw aggro. Having them up as much as possible may save you from having to wait around for a little while to recharge, or may allow you to recast them more quickly in a long fight.
Whether it is worth it to you to give up a slot for the sake of perma-Creepers is up to you, but I always 6-slot Creepers as I consider it to be one of the three or four key powers in Plant.
Let me try to clarify.
Mid's lists the duration of Carrion Creepers as 2 minutes. As near as I can tell, they are slow to follow you as you move from spawn to spawn, but they will follow you for those 2 minutes. However, guides suggest that additional Accuracy slotting may change this. Since I currently (but temporarily) lack Tactics, good slotting, and a bunch of my planned +Acc set bonuses, I don't think I can judge how good the power ends up being.
My planned build in Mid's puts their recharge at 95 seconds, the idea being to cast the power as often as practical. However, if the power does not need to be recast within its listed 2-minute lifetime, I can move two planned slots out of that power without losing the "perma" status (it'll be up to 118 seconds). Since slots are very precious in my build (I'm restricted by it not including Purples), I don't want to waste them on a marginal effect. -
I'm glad I found this thread.
Related question: Is it worth it to even take the recharge of the power that high, then? I'm not high enough in level to have much experience with Carrion Creepers, but it seems like they're slow to respond to additional spawns when you move on. I could find better uses for the power's last slot, if a 110-second recharge is going to function about the same as a 95-second recharge. -

Quote:Besides the other things people have mentioned, just about any build is going to be animating constantly, so Hasten doesn't have much effect on your endurance use.The one thing I don't understand about wanting perma-hasten nowadays is that Hasten combined with the recharge bonuses you need to get hasten into the perma range well reduce your attack recharge times to the point that if you don't have someone buffing your endurance recovery, you'll run out of endurance faster than a Gunstar after Death Blossom.
-
I'm working on a Perma-Hasten build for my current controller that ends up showing the recharge timer on Hasten as 119.7 seconds. With lag and attack chains, this means that it won't quite be perma, but at least it should always be either charged or active (ignoring slows as well, naturally).
I could get it down to 117 or even 115 by losing a 3% Ranged Defense set bonus, but since I'm not worried about the endurance crash on this hero, it seems like a small break in Hasten shouldn't hurt me. However, this is my first Perma-Hasten build (since i4 ~_^ ), so I could be forgetting something.
Are there any problems with small gaps in Hasten coverage, other than the endurance crash?
It's a Plant/Cold Controller, if that matters. (This is why I'm not worried about 15 endurance every 2 minutes. Heat Loss is only down for like 20 seconds!) -
I want to make sure that this works like I think it does before I buy it....
When I buy the Superscience Super Booster, I can choose gender per costume, right? It's not just the character's overall gender that changes? -
For earning Inf by selling things on the market,
1)What is the most efficient use of Reward Merits?
2)What is the most efficient use of AE Tickets?
(Assume that my own build is complete.) -
Quote:So one of those two is the one from the "Time Bandits" arc, or there's still one that's not on this thread?I edited the list, to include the two Villain-only letetrs as well - I sometimes forget that Villains even exist
Also, I'm at least mildly disappointed that there are no new letters, but thank you for posting that. -
When Ouro was released, there were 4 mysterious letters to the players in the arcs there, and another came out in the ITF, but I stopped playing and reading the forums immediately after that.
Have we seen more of these?
Also, is there anywhere that compiles all of them (in an easy-to-find format), including the first few? Paragonwiki doesn't seem to have a page for them.
