Hmmm, if I was in the market for a new computer(and had the money ), I would seriously consider that sweet looking, nice priced, space-saving computer.

It actually reminds me of the Playstation 3 in both price and form factor.
  2. Dimension Shift phases all those inside the area, or who enter the area.
Force Bubble repels all enemies, who are not resistant to the magnitude 10 repel, outside the bubble.

I wonder how they would behave combined such that the controller could stay within the phased phased area and still attack enemies that were outside the phased area and the bubble?

    That would be very interesting.
  3. Has anybody else noticed their Demon pets or other pet sets not having the "freeze after loading screen" bug?

    No.

Thus, you are obligated to play that content, not just once but multiple times in order to reach what is really just "higher numbers" on those incarnate powers which means higher numbers for overall performance.

And then, they balance the next set of content around those numbers so that you really don't practically have "more numbers" because the content runs as if you have "less numbers", until you have farmed that content enough to have "more numbers".

Paraphrasing the "Song That Never Ends" with underscores for changes by me:

"This is the grind that never ends,
yes it goes on and on my friends,
some people started grinding it disliking and denying what it was,
and they'll continue grinding it forever just because,
This is the grind that never ends,
yes it goes on and on my friends...."

    What? o.O

    1) Leveling is "gating of content".
We have that elsewhere which allows us to run different content, not forcing us to run the same over and over for "more numbers".

    2) I understand gating content behind something else, but what do you call content?
    More numbers?
"Farming" is not "experiencing content" because it only takes one run to "experience content". Farming is repetition of content for no other reason than the end goal.

There are only two reasons anyone does anything:
    1) They want to.
    2) They need/are forced/are obligated to.

Nobody wants to be pushed to do anything, but they do need to do certain expected things before they can do others, "cause and effect".

Making somebody run the same few itrials, defeating the exact same specific named enemy several times(which is illogical, a breach of the continuity of the universe) just to progress their numbers so that they can then progress the "cause and effect" line of story, is not smart and not fun.
It is just a lot more work on each piece of content to make sure "everyone runs it the expected number of times over the expected amount of days/weeks/months or more" than it is to make the same content without trying to push people to repeat it more.

Seriously, gating such as "this part of the story will not happen until the part of the story before it is completed" and leveling through a variety of content are both fine.
Gating anything behind farming the same small "one time run, according to story" content is not fine.

Deployed means I am in a location other than my home... I did not disclose that location.

I didn't know. I thought any base over-seas was considered "deployed".
I still think it is, but it is fine if you are actually in a different location.

I also think the security concern is not just about willingly given out information but also about possible hacks by enemies of private information about military personnel locations.
But, that's probably not a risk unless we were at war with a technologically highly sophisticated force.

Anyway, it was more in jest than anything else.

That's because they design the game around the rewards, rather than around having fun.

If the only reason somebody plays any game's content is for the reward at the end of it then that player will go through that content as fast as possible, not caring at all how good it is.
If the content has no reward then the player will only do it at least once to see if he likes doing it and repeat it if her does.

Both ways of making have to deal with losing the interest of a certain group of people, but which group do you think is larger?
Why can't they also make rewards take fewer runs and make the content the goal and make that content more fun and interesting?

(Edit: They could make it so that no content needs to be run more than once for rewards. Then, they could concentrate on making the content great rather than making the reward rate a particular speed. That would make it easier to develop better content if took time from trying to make the proper slow rate of rewards.)

The worst part is that even interesting content starts to suck if you "are obligated to run it every day for rewards" rather than "only run it when you want to even if you want to every day".

It needs to be a choice, not an obligation, or you push people away.

There have been numerous occasions when I'd do one mission, spend a couple hours crafting/marketing/updating costumes without a crash, then start another mission and crash partway through.
Try using the command "/leaveteam" after the first mission.
If that works then it is a problem with the team status update issue.

Also, use the command "/unloadgfx" and "/sync" after the first mission so see if that clears something that allows you to play.

If you use the leprechaun pet from the store, try not using it.

I have my reasons not to.

    1) I don't have access to all the content, but I still would like to read the stories(without cut-scenes) to decide if I want access to them.

    2) Too much work for me alone.
    3) I do not have a wiki account.
    4) I haven't ever edited an established website. The closest I got was a high school html course that wasn't much.

    5) Those who do update it do a great job. It's just missing information that I wuld very much like to see presented the way they do so well.

    1) It's not just sister Solaris. The Pilgrim's "Welcome to Ouroboros" arc does this as well, among others that other people have seen.

    2) The leprechaun being summoned first thing inside the mission door, at least in AE, can cause a crash for people other than the owner, according to my own experience crashing(though others were not present to verify that they crashed as well).

    3) Many people are experiencing the issues in this bug thread:
    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=285470

    4) Mastermind pets getting stuck still happens and I have an idea for a solution:
    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=286960

    5) Team status is not updating properly, causing crashes when teaming with, or having teamed with during the play session, level shifted incarnates.
This is easily seen by entering any mission instance solo and attempting to chat to the team channel. Instead of the error "you are not on a team" you will actually send a message to the team channel. You also see status updates about your previous team after you leave, such as a leader/active player change.
The leaveteam function fixes this until you enter another instance/zone or team again.

Your known issue list is too short, and you keep taking off old known issues that are still issues and known still.

    Edit:
    6) Hero zone green dots on the map show villain zone names on mouse-over. The villain zone name is the zone that matches the level range of whichever hero zone name is supposed to appear.

Look at your forum location listing.

I think the need to be enabled if your graphics card supports them otherwise you have problems.

Yes, the V_Great_Ceremony map is especially interesting.

I also like the Cimeroran CP_PCS_SYBILTEMPLE.

Is the ceremony map available in AE?
Is the Sybil Temple also available?

I would love to use them for a private fun area.
  16. It wouldn't be so bad if the wiki was updated with story pages for content, with spoiler warning, and not just strategy.
Or, if the game developers actually had a database they maintained with the information on the game as accurate as possible, answering hard questions like "how does Jolting chain work" as well.
  17. Anybody know how I can get the latest DirectX version update on Windows 7?
I get conflicting results sometimes, like with dxdiag it says I have DirectX 11 but at least some other programs say I only have DirectX 10. I have a Nvidia GTX 465 which is capable of DirectX 11 as well.

Good idea, except that the stacking upgrade powers could be a symptom of whatever is making them stack, rather than the cause.

I just know Demons, after the release of Time Manipulation, did not have the issue for at least the month I played it and reached level 24 or so, and I always see the upgrade power icons stacking when my Robots zone.

    I agree. I always did.

I just hate that they do things that way.
They fail to realize that the one thing that will get more customers and keep them is "fun", so they put in these very "not fun" limits.

I think most MMOs have lost touch with what will make them the most money, and this game is one of the worst offenders by trying to imitate a game that has stagnated with regards to customer numbers(probably revenue and profits as well) and even begun faltering, obviously, in the last 3 years....World of Warcraft.

    Edit:
I like this game for what it was and mostly still is, what it focuses on. I like making a character exactly as I want with the abilities I want that also look really cool the way I want, and taking that character out into a cool world where I can feel super and occasionally battle a godly character.
I'm not after "more numbers" or "more loot" like the invention system and incarnate system and LFG function are pushing.

To me, the "more numbers" and "more loot" are only there to get past as fast as possible to make me feel more super than having trouble beating one boss level enemy with certain characters.
They're not "the objective". They're a "means to an end" which is not really an end because "the story goes on".

You can't keep people interested by forcing them to repeat the same actions and content for "numerical rewards". If all they wanted was numbers then they would horde money "just to have more" rather than get as much money as they can to turn around and spend it on the things they actually want.

People want "new fun things", not "more of the same old".

Honestly, they definitely spend too much time working on "how can we slow customers down?" rather than "what new cool stuff can we entice them with?".
Although the F2P shift has been pushing the latter a bit more, all content that gets added for players to actually do is still made intentionally slower than necessary by far. Even if they make content faster and shorter like 30-45 minute trials, they just require doing it more times(with a nice daily limit of one relatively well rewarding run before the rewards suck) and making it more "gimmicky" to make up for the faster speed.
You trade fewer minutes per day for more days, every day, or fewer days for horribly long days, every day.

Alienware systems are definitely "polished", but they, like every other pre-built company, come with bloatware that will slow down your computer. They also tend to push the limits of hardware, thus running hot, and many times barely last past their longest warranty.

I just like building my own for much cheaper and avoiding all the useless programs.

    Edit:
Most pre-built manufacturers will be very expensive. The only one I have went through is Alienware, though my family has went through Dell(they own Alienware now but Alienware still does their own thing mostly). The Dells they got did not impress me and have been royal pains in my butt(Vista has "quirks") to keep working right.
They're not bad, but Dell is not a "premier manufacturer" like Alienware, Voodoo or Hypersonic(I think they still exist).
  21. The only advice I can give is avoid AMD/ATI graphics cards. Their drivers very often don't work well with City of Heroes because both the game is coded poorly and AMD/ATI isn't making the best drivers lately.

Go with Nvidia if you want fewer problems.

I am not a fanboy. I would switch to suggesting AMD/ATI, especially considering they are usually cheaper, if they would just work better.

    Edit:
Be wary of fan speed issues with Nvidia cards though. They tend to overheat, which has been caused by the fan speed of the card not ramping up enough to compensate.
This program allows you to manually set the fan speed, among other things, which will keep your card from overheating:
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvidia_...ools_6.06.html
Yes, use that version, the later version 6.08 seems to have dropped the fan speed controls along with overclocking controls.

    Edit 2:
    Go with Newegg. Avoid Tigerdirect.
Tigerdirect send me a smaller hard drive(2/3rds the size), completely wrong serial number and a completely dead monitor(can't remember the other problem I had) on my first complete self build.
It sure looks like somebody tried to cheat me, and they took way too long sending the "free return shipping" labels, hoping that I would wait and then have to keep the items while paying for new ones. I had to pay for shipping before the deadline and received the labels days after they received the items.
    Tigerdirect sucks for customer service.

Ok, but I wouldn't call it an exploit, just results the developers didn't like because "the players are not going as slow as we want".(like those stupid daily limits that make further runs less rewarding than the first despite the same effort)
I hate artificial limits that destroy immersion AND make things more of a chore than they already are.

    Focus fire the worst offenders.
  24. I started a thread about it right after Issue 22 that went into multiple pages.
    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=285470

There is only one work-around right now.
After loading your saved window settings, physically move anything still out of place to the proper spot and never use "load saved window settings" again, until they truly fix it.

Also, the inspiration tray needs to be anchored or it moves around, according to others as my tray is always anchored to the power bars.
  25. Scirroco's first arc is really short. He also has a great story after the first arc.
I think many people avoid his arcs, though, because he has you facing EBs a little often to start, and Ice Mistral can be a pain to take down multiple times. Ghost Widow is worse, though, because of her heal and hold/intangible.
