  1. Wish I could have solved the problem for you, but /leaveteam was just about the only idea I had that worked.

I actually have Windows 7 64bit as well. I have a rather crappy shared internet connection that tends to exacerbate any high ping issues the servers have, as well as my own end having a bottleneck, as well.
I tend to crash every time I team with anybody that has incarnate powers, at random times and usually depends on what is going on at the time(like lots of high ping, lag, makes it more common).

I just avoid teaming with incarnates, but I certainly don't crash as often as you do. I'm not sure what is different about my computer versus yours though.

Hmm, maybe you could take a picture of your "task manager"(opened by ctrl+alt+del and clicking task manager on the screen that comes up) "process" list to show what is running on your computer so that I could compare it to mine and maybe see the answer.

You maybe could also try messing with the page file, or whatever it is(I'm sorry I don't remember what exactly or how to), to set it higher so the game has more memory it can take advantage of.
There is always another command I have macroed to use occasionally(but it can cause a crash itself) and that is /unloadgfx which resets the graphics load.

Hmm, try, in your team window(while teaming and showing buffs), disabling "show buff numbers" or maybe even enable "stop sending buffs". Maybe you can change that in the options window too.
This may just be the most likely thing to work for you.
I actually have "show buff numbers" disabled, but I haven't enabled "stop sending buffs".

  3. I definitely hate the long "can't do anything else" period of Invincibility. Tough also has the same issue.
That makes toggle dropping a really annoying, and deadly, situation when they take long enough to retoggle for the enemy to use all their best powers and beat you down.

But, I tend to hate toggles as a "stupid idea if they're always up anyway". Making them auto powers that are always on(for self-affecting only ones) would be a much better idea that would require less system and server resources to track the status of.

But, I'm not in any position of influence to have my good ideas(at least some are good) heard.

I said "the forums are rarely used".
    1) They're not used much by most players, who would rather play the game and avoid the "typical forum attitudes".
    2) I was saying that I rarely use the forums.

Look at my post count and join date. Look at your own post count and join date.

I'm on the forums very rarely. Other than checking patch notes, I ignore most of the forums and post much less than I even read those sections.

Everybody knows that "the forums are a small vocal minority compared to the amount of people playing the game". If not then this game has lost more customers than they can afford to.

It's the most common ignorant "come-back" in the world. A person says something, an insult in this case, and receives an insult back and then says "ooh, such a big man insulting me", as if the rebuke was uncalled for due to them having never said anything.
"Playing innocent when you're really more guilty than the other person" is another phrase for that.

So yeah, shoot down my ideas with your "facts" and excuses, but I know that none of you know any more about how the game works than I do. At least, I have ideas and try to figure it out while you just hand-wave it away as "standard code rant".

More qualified? No, just "open to ideas" because I haven't been "doing things a certain way for 8 years".

There is a very good reason for the expression "a fresh set of eyes".
Often, a "complete moron" will say something like "is that jumper cable supposed to be attached to that connector on the battery?" and save the "experienced mechanic" from frying both batteries.(FYI, my dad is an experienced mechanic, after 40 years working at it, and he did that to the lawnmower battery last week, all because he "knew what he was doing" so much that he forgot to check the obvious.)

So don't tell me "you can't possibly have a good idea", especially because "it's so obvious that they wold have done it if it was right", because they "miss the obvious" more than you think, simply because "we're all human".

By the way, how is it "the most resource intensive way to do it" with code that is that short and just does a function call to show the lists they already have programmed to show?
It seems pretty simple, as far as code goes, to me. It doesn't require any nested "if/then" statements or copying and pasting the list every time. It just calls up the list as a function that is likely already programmed.

FYI, you don't know the code either so how do you know it would be "the most resource intensive way"????
    Cat got your fingers?

    Edit:
The old "you don't know what you're talking about" argument made by "another person who knows just as little" is the most common "ignorant hypocritical argument" in the world.
It's like the golden rule, "treat others as you would like to be treated", where a person calls you a name and then is "shocked" that you fire one back and says something like "ooh, big man calling me a name" and doesn't apply the same reasoning to themselves.

    Edit2:
If they were so "concerned about maximizing performance" then they would be getting rid of a lot of the piled up crap we have in the game already. They could have also coded the game a lot more simply and still had it be just as fun in the first place.

They're not concerned with performance until it becomes "unplayable" for too many customers.

If they were concerned with performance then why the hell do we even have SOs anymore or all the different IO sets? Or why the hell do we still have two checks for Ouroboros? Or why do we have instances that create a whole set of NPCs to track for each and every solo player when a world full of open world enemies and content(as the zones already are) that people could share and do together more easily would be less resource intensive?

Performance isn't even their 5th priority. Making more things to ask money for is much more important.
  7. 1) Yes, I am defensive, but only because the forums are filled with people who believe "I don't have a problem so your problem must not be real, thus I think you're insane".

    2) I avoid the forums. I come here either when I am looking for possible work-arounds or to help others or when I have been seriously BLEEPED off by a particular "bug"(more like a "feature" at this point all too often) or the sheer volume of bugs they have let stay in this game or created almost intentionally.

So, if you expect "no ranting" then you're obviously in the wrong place. A rarely used forum will most likely only be used when a customer has reason to "shout to the heavens a curse against the gods".

    3) I don't care what excuse you or the developers give for the problems in the game, or how many times you try to blame my computer that works perfectly for everything other than City of Heroes.
This game is going to be offline permanently by this time next year if they do not fix most of the issues, because you all KNOW they will be adding more stuff that will break the game even more(because that is the only constant with patches).

    Edit:
    @Memphis Bill
    The truth hurts.

Most people are "angry about Windows 8" only because "where did my precious desktop go?".

I just defended my opinion about how I would like to use computers against comments that TRULY looked like "I just hate the way it looks, I want the old way I'm used to".
So clearly, the people who attacked my opinion, and I replied to, were "stuck in their ways" like the old man who doesn't want to use a simple cellphone because "I'm fine with my wired phone in my house instead of some newfangled doohickey that works exactly the same but I'm too stubborn to see the truth".

People find it hard to change, even when they think themselves flexible. Perceptions are always colored by preference.
You all, as with most people(including myself) have had a preference for the plain old standard desktop for years. Something new comes along and you fight it, whether it is worse or actually better or no change. I'm just defending my opinion about it because I want to see something other than the standard desktop. I'm sick of the desktop after years of use because of a few reasons.
    1) I'm sick and tired of a desktop at a desk that is never the proper height or design for my uses.
    2) I'm sick of the "computer chair" that supposedly "helps posture" but only makes you want to slouch(especially when paired with a desk made with a different goal in mind) or throw the chair out.
    3) I'm sick of the hot lap of laptops and the fact that they still require a mouse when you have no comfortable place to put it.
    4) I'm sick and tired of losing my mouse on the screen in City of Heroes, where all the effects in a big battle make me have to find where my mouse pointer is before I can click a specific enemy or something(yes, tab targeting still is slower).
I just want to put my finger on whatever it is I want to click, saving time and frustration.
(Edit: You can clean your hands and the screen periodically as well. It's not like a normal monitor doesn't get dirty very fast just from DUST that it attracts through static and the fact that dust is inevitable. So, cleaning is not a big problem.)

Everybody can keep the option for a mouse and keyboard, no matter what the screen looks like those will always work. I just want more options because I am tired of the problems with the mouse and keyboard that nobody bothers to fix.

You know one thing that bothers me?
Why the hell has somebody not made a "gaming trackball mouse" yet?

I know, from experience, that a trackball mouse(laser of course) is superior to any other mouse, especially for gaming, but nobody ever makes them with enough extra buttons and certainly not well placed. It baffles me how this has not been made yet, despite the wide adoption of trackball mice in business and gaming, where carpal tunnel is common, areas that have a use for the quickly accessible buttons.

So yes, I want something a lot easier to use and more intuitive. If a 4 year old can use it then it's about right.

FYI, touchscreen control is not "less ergonomic" than a keyboard and mouse, especially considering your argument of a "2 foot screen" is not what a touchscreen is intended for.
That's like saying "touchscreens are bad for 6ft TVs" when the real problem is "who the hell NEEDs a 6ft TV let alone wants to put a computer screen on it?", especially considering the big screen will be placed farther away such that it looks the same size as a much smaller screen that is much closer.
People are stupid about "big big big". They don't realize that proportion is what matters.

It's the same issue I find with "well endowed" women. They're not attractive when they get "too big", but stupid people still advocate "disproportionate" augmentations.
The most attractive people have bodily features that are proportionally balanced on them. That's why fit people look better. They don't have "disproportionate areas" like a "bulging"(not proportional to the areas adjacent) stomach.

Anyway, I'll defend my opinions and you can just suck it up and take the rant because that is one of very few reasons I even look at the forums.
FYI, I post a hell of a lot less than any of you in a lot less threads than you think. I also tend to post nicer posts a lot more often, even if they do contain a "casual remark" about the evident state of the game.
You just "assign an attitude" to my words because this is text where body language and tone is not present.

But yes, this started out calmer then turned into a real rant. So go ahead and mock me as I just shake my head at how dumb those who mock me are because they ignore the truth about human nature and their own reasoning for mocking me, especially considering mocking someone who isn't calm will only make them more angry all too often(not me this specific time).
Now, I'm calmer now because I got the rant out instead of suppressing my urge to "tell you all off". It's cathartic to not "put up with jerks" every time.

By the way, have you seen the game's code?
    Do you carefully observe people?

I haven't seen the code, but I can guess things from the visual output called "the game" that we play every day.
I always observe people, though, as I have learned to be careful to explain myself multiple ways to either avoid offense or calm a person down after mistaken offense.(not the best family life)
I've definitely learned how people are as a result of trial and error and a lot of bad situations.

I don't think you would be as quick to discount me if you were actually talking to me face to face, and you certainly would be a complete idiot if you did without even citing a single FACT to refute me.

Seriously, you don't know any better than I, so assuming I am wrong is like assuming that the world is flat without testing that fact and despite other facts that hint at the world being round.
The only way to know for sure is to actually try to find the truth, instead of laughing at the ones who have ideas.

It seems pretty obvious to me why they have not fixed a lot of issues, especially ones they claim are "low priority", given the nature of humans.

    1) They don't make "more" money from fixing things.
They just avoid losing money, but they lose more money(in opportunity cost, if I remembered the correct term) by not making new things to sell even if they lose money because of problems with old things.

    2) It's easier to make new things than it is to fix previous things you thought you had working properly.
Whether it is actually easier or better or not, they avoid working on things that do not have obvious solutions because of the indeterminate amount of time it would take.

I don't need to know how the game works when I know how the human mind works because I know how my own mind works and have observed many other people's actions and words.

    • Going through 8 years worth of missions, making sure to not miss a single one, and change the mission requirements. Only then they have to also change every non-cooperative zone in the game, including Ouro and the fragile base system to accept everyone.
Either way there will be countless hours lost to actually doing it and testing to save you a tiny bit of hassle so that you don't have to do a few more tip missions or buy an alignment token for.

Just taking an educated guess here, but are you willing to shell out the few hundred thousand to a few million dollars (admittedly, getting into millions would be an outside possibility) and the potential increased workload it would likely need to have the issue fixed? I don't think they currently have the staff to get it done without sacrificing a couple years without content to get it done.

    Give me a break.
They, and you, are WAY over-thinking the problem.

They have the code in place in other parts of the game to make it very very simple.

    1) How do they prevent hero/villain alignments from having access to opposite alignment zones?
They have the active object, a door in this case, check the alignment of the character before allowing them through.

They could simply put all missions on the same Ouroboros pillar under "if, then" statements that show only the proper list for their specific alignment.

    It's really that simple.

    2) How do they get contacts to recognize when a player is a rogue/vigilante and thus allow or disallow missions?
They have code in place to check alignment for that as well.

This could be applied to every arc in the pillar.

I think number 1 is likely the simplest and least time-consuming. It would definitely work.
As for the menders, they could just be coded like any other contact to check alignment, as they do, and bring up the proper arc.

As for the portal out of Ouroboros....they can just use the same code to check alignment as the pillars would with number 1 above to make sure only the correct zones are shown.

It would not take a major rewrite of anything, let alone the entire game.

    Edit:
This is a bit of example code, though I am unsure of the syntax and actual functions as it has been years since I did any coding.

    if (alignment == hero)
    . cout>HeroMissionList
    . cout>NeutralMissionList
    elseif (alignment == vigilante)
    . cout>HeroMissionList
    . cout>NeutralMissionList
    elseif (alignment == villain)
    . cout>VillainMissionList
    . cout>NeutralMissionList
    elseif (alignment == rogue)
    . cout>RogueMissionList
    . cout>NeutralMissionList
    endif

(I put the periods in to retain spacing.)
My memory of specific coding structure is fuzzy, but I believe that is close to how it would be, aside from the fact that it wouldn't be a simple "cout" function and would instead be the code that shows the list of missions available.
  11. I actually had Imperious, who I didn't even know was in the final mission, attacking my Arachnos Widow in the ITF final mission.
I know my character was a Rogue alignment, if that helps them figure this out, but it was very odd.
Imperious just apparently came out of nowhere and started attacking me while we were fighting Romulus at the end.

    1) I didn't say you were an idiot or even imply it. This is text, so any attitude you assign to my post is likely in your own head, not my attitude.

    2) I was just saying "the developers pretty much made sure pets would be stupid, so we have to work around it, sadly".
It wasn't "try this" and was really "sadly, this is all we can do until the developers fix it".

So, I'm sorry, but this is a bug and it's a bug that probably is here to stay unless you report it and the developers fix it.

    Edit:
Yes, there was one suggestion because it is the only help I can offer: get rid of the mezzer first.
No offense, but the developers don't have a great track record with pet behavior. We have to just deal with it the best we can and complain often.

There was no attitude on my part except for a "those developers aren't very good", if at all.
  14. Sleep and other mezzes just stop them from attacking at all.

The real problem is likely that all those mezzes, if they are psionic, likely have a recharge slow component. Pets don't do well with recharge changes. They make them forget they have certain powers.
    It's crappy AI.

    Edit:
This is one reason most people, other than the melee archetypes, target the mezzers and psionic damage dealers first.
  15. There are 3 settings that affect darkness of objects and the game in general.

    Bloom
    Gamma
    Ambient Occlusion

Bloom makes things brighter or darker depending on the colors present being light or dark, as well as ambient light. It mostly makes things brighter.
Gamma just adjust screen brightness, which tends to be best left alone if you don't want colors changing.
Ambient Occlusion depends on the setting but tends to make things darker.

There may be other settings such as shadows affecting it.

A picture of what is going on and what your graphics are set at would help though. It may just be the way it should work, or we could see what is wrong.
  16. It looks like you have even older graphics card drivers now than your other thread.
  17. T_Immortalus

    Forward lean!

The closest we get is /e assumethepositionwall (or whatever the "hands on the wall" position is listed as).

There are a LOT of emotes we don't have.
  18. Honestly, they really need to just combine the two Ouroboros zones into one, rather than have the contacts in two places at once(which are still the same place and time outside of time; time travel makes the brain hurt).

They have the code in place in the game already necessary to sort the arcs int he pillar by alignment so that you can't do opposite alignment stuff(though it would actually make sense to allow everyone to do all alignment content through flashbacks regardless of alignment as some sort of "alternate past" as flashbacks already use as an explanation).

They just haven't done it already for the same reason that stops them from fixing bugs that don't completely break an important part of the game...."it doesn't make us more money, so it isn't high priority".
That is what is going to bite them in the end with every part of this game. They neglect things in favor of new things for more money.
  19. It would not be surprising if this was a very old bug that has stood the test of time, or really just wasn't noticed enough to attract developer attention(like most bugs aren't "bad enough" until people get really POed).
  20. I've never had trouble with any kind of damage on my willpower characters.

They have a little bit of resistance to practically everything and very decent defenses to what they don't resist well.
All of that is backed by very good regeneration as well.

I've never seen a problem, and I even almost could solo Babbage with a SS/WP tanker on SOs. Babbage just had too much regen. My endurance was also never in jeopardy from him, FYI.
  21. Try to get a temperature monitoring program for your CPU and graphics card.
    Something like HWmonitor works.

You want to keep everything as low temperature as possible. The CPU should be under 60 degrees Celsius, approximately 130 degrees Fahrenheit , and the graphics card needs to be under 80 degrees Celsius or it will likely get up to 100 really quickly, 212 degrees Fahrenheit(literally boiling).

If you are placing things on the AH for less then you are losing INF. Though, some people intentionally do that to give others cheap crafting materials.

    That is normal.

The pets are actually resummoned. They're new pets.
The only powers coded to automatically apply to them are the upgrade powers.

Now, the applying of those upgrade powers can be bugged though, as explained in this thread:
    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=286960

Te older pet sets have the upgrade buffs stack another application after every zone load. This is clearly evident by watching their buffs immediately after a loading screen.
The only pets seemingly immune to it are the newer Demons, and maybe Beast but I can't test them.

Summoned Wolves and Lioness will suddenly only use their Vicious Bite attack, despite them being upgraded with Train Beasts.
Actually, that sounds like it may be caused by the same bug that causes the stuck pets as explained in this thread:
    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=286960

On the older pet sets, the upgrade powers stack on them after each time they are resummoned after a loading screen. Demons do not suffer from this bug, at least back shortly after Time Manipulation was released.
Maybe Beasts also do not suffer from stacking of the upgrade powers but instead suffer from the upgrade powers not actually applying even once.

Though, it is odd if it is not happening to every Beast Mastery user.

    This is very odd.
