Quote:Yes! Why make mundane tasks EASIER for people in a GAME? Especially a game about SUPERHEROES? Why shouldn't those SUPERHEROES have to walk or TAKE A TRAIN everywhere? What kind of sense does it make for them to get a transportation assist from the organization in the game THAT HAS SUPER-ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY AND WORKS WITH SUPERHEROES? For NOTHING MORE than a RIDE ACROSS TOWN?!? Why, this is just as bad as that other thing WHERE YOU GET TO CREATE YOUR OWN ADVENTURES IN A GAME YOU PRESUMABLY ENJOY!!! When oh when is this madness going to stop?!?!?!?!?Team teleport? Sigh...more stuff to make the game easier for people. You dont even have to travel to missions now. How about getting rod of the city entirely and just let us all stand in one room and bring the missions to us. Oh wait you have, its AE.
Sorry, I just couldn't resist. Everyone's entitled to their own preferences regarding this game. Regarding Team Transport, mine fall in line with: IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME -- and thank you, CoH! -
Quote:I also couldn't care less about waiting for Staff Fighting (it'll get here when it gets here and now we know that's next week, so that's that), but I'm very excited about the 50% off Character Slots and I will definitely be buying in bulk specifically for when/if there's more unlocked per server and to use on servers I under-use now. I'll be buying more points next week when Staff Fighting gets here, but I'm fine with budgeting to pay for things I'll enjoy.Waiting another week for Staff Fighting won't kill us.
On the other hand, I would have loved additional character slots added to the servers so that I could take full advantage of the sale! I already have 48 characters on my server of choice and I'm debating whether or not to buy them for when (if) the boost the number that are available to be unlocked again. -
Quote:This, apparently, can't be repeated often enough. Jetpacks before Pilgrim Hats, please. Make the items everyone expects before you make the items nobody wants. The Fireman's Helmet and Pilgrim's Hat probably did not sell that well because of their specificity. There are only so many ways to use those except as what they are. I suggest releasing one-off costume items that are non-specific, but highly usable.
-An actual motorcycle-style helmet
-A redesigned trench coat
-Travel-power activated costume pieces (like a Rocket Boots variation with boosters in different locations, with a different colored exhaust).
Hell, release a generic one-off jet pack that activates when a Flight power is activated, price it reasonably, and I guarantee it will sell.
And you seriously spent the time and money to make an item that's an in-joke reference marketed only to those who both saw and liked a particular comedy from eight years ago? A comedy that has nothing to do with superheroes, even? You could have made any of the pets that actually appear in superhero comic books -- as if, for instance, a version of Shadowcat's dragon wouldn't be an insanely popular item -- and you went with this?
I would love for CoH to be around forever, but you routinely make the most bewildering marketing choices possible. Please stop pursuing any and all items that don't fit the genre of the game you're selling. Thank you. -

Quote:The Hulk, The Thing, She-Hulk, She-Thing, blah, blah, blah are standard superheroes. Pilgrims are not. You know this. And it shouldn't be news to anybody here that comics themselves are ridiculous. That isn't the point. The point is: "Jetpacks before Pilgrim Hats".A radioactive green behemoth wearing nothing but purple pants is ridiculous too, but there are plenty of people who seem to like that idea just fine...
Everything else you said is a matter of opinion; some of them (those wishing for new superhero-themed costume options) are valid for discussion, while others (those knocking existing parts specifically because they're not what you wanted) are not. Regardless, this isn't the thread for that discussion.
I appreciate that you think the thing you insist on discussing shouldn't be discussed, but, sadly, you don't make the rules (or follow the ones you make) and here we are. I have news: everything you've said is a matter of opinion. And that's how this discussion thing actually works. Yours aren't wrong, and mine -- no matter how much somebody might think otherwise -- aren't wrong, either. You do characterize them inaccurately, but I'm sure other people get the point by now. -
And that's not ridiculous?
My greater point somehow continues to get lost. I am now going to condense it into a meme-friendly soundbite: "Jetpacks before Pilgrim Hats".
It is ridiculous that a superhero game isn't first meeting the basic requirements of the genre before introducing other elements that are only put to use by its customers because (a) the basics aren't there and they have to work with something and (b) they spent money on it, so they might as well use it.
Or, in other words, nobody was demanding a Pilgrim hat. But if you want steak and the only restaurant in town is a steakhouse that only serves salad, you eat the salad. Sure would be nice to get steak, though. -
Quote:My point was that a superhero game should be catering to customers who want to play a superhero game.So don't go knocking additions to the store just because you don't personally like them. Someone out there will see plenty of uses for them, even if you don't.
To do that, you'd first supply them with things superheroes commonly have before branching out into things that no superhero has. There are no superhero Pilgrims. That's ridiculous. The fact that you can make one in this game, but you can't have a jetpack, for instance, is ridiculous. I can also make a samurai or a boxer in this game, neither of which are superheroes. Yes, I can make them into superheroes -- as if I'd want to -- but I'm out of luck if I just want a hero who has a jetpack?
And I bought the Pilgrim hat, so wrap your head around that one. I have it on hand to use for a scarecrow-monster or a time-traveling Solomon Kane type, both of which would be dark fantasy characters and neither of which would be superheroes, which is ostensibly the focus of this game. But will you see one of my superheroes wearing the Pilgrim hat? Of course not. Why? Because it's a Pilgrim hat.
To put it another way, I actually enjoyed the Disco pack and the Old West Saloon pack (neither of which were named what they really are), but, even though I think they were generally well done, I would have taken actual superhero basics over them in an instant. -
Quote:This is so obvious I have no idea why it wasn't what was implemented from the start. How can we now have backpacks and a game in which you can be an archer and still not have quivers -- but we can have leprechauns and fireman hats? How does that make any sense at all?My other response to that is: release something that is non-specific, but highly usable.
-An actual motorcycle style helmet
-A redesigned trenchcoat
-Travel-power activated costume pieces (like a Rocket Boots variation with boosters in different locations, with a different colored exhaust).
Hell, release a generic one-off jet pack that activates when a Flight power is activated, price it reasonably, and I guarantee it will sell... If they release generic pieces, the appeal will naturally be much higher.
Meanwhile, they could pay the bills on the money they would rake in by simply making the already-existing raptor pack into a backpack option. Instead we can wear hats like the pilgrims. Seriously, what the hell? I want this to be a superhero game, not a kindergarten holiday pageant. -
It's very good work and a great set, but the one thing I was looking forward to the most is the one thing I like the least.
With all the options you're offering, I really hope it's possible to have a jetpack option without rings. Like every single other player on this game, I've always wanted a jetpack, but I can't put one that says 1950s science fiction on, really, any but the one 1950s science fiction character I'm going to have.
Making one single versatile jetpack would seal universal love for you among the subscribers. I'd even be deliriously happy with the raptor pack made available as a backpack option -- not much work involved there. As excited as I'd like to be about this pack, I can't be knowing how close we came to -- but fell short of -- getting the one thing that everyone wants.
But, still, good work! -
Thanks for a detailed and illustrated listing of what you're asking me to buy. But why weren't you doing this from the start?
I don't get why this and other products haven't been accurately labeled. The Gunslinger pack wasn't a gunslinger pack and this is no Valentine's pack. When I heard the name, I was excited at the possibilities, only to discover that it's a Disco pack. And here's the thing: I like this Disco pack -- so why didn't you just market it to me that way?
The fabulous discount doesn't apply to me. So I'm being told there's a fabulous discount and there really isn't. How am I supposed to feel about that?
I personally don't care about the time limit you've set because I always purchase what I want while it's still available. But why do you want to deprive your customers of options?
I'm buying the bundle because I buy all the bundles because I like options. I have street heroes and outer space heroines who will benefit from these new costume pieces. I will never use them for RPing in Pocket D as I don't do that. And the emotes in the bundle I purchase will never see the light of day.
And, despite the problems, your steps forward with Marketing are not going unnoticed or unappreciated. -
I vote for this one. Barring that, it's A, because the rings ruin B for me. However, I 100% agree with this: "I think it's a bit silly that we can't get just two options for a jetpack seeing as it's probably THE most requested back detail that's ever graced the suggestion forum..." But I do appreciate that you're seeking customer feedback in advance, so kudos for that.

Seriously, pretinting is the worst part of CoX for me. The fact that it's utterly unnecessary and counter-productive and the opposite of what every customer wants makes the fact that it ever happened at all utterly mind-boggling.
I saw the announcement elsewhere that "going forward" a non-pretinted option will be be available for everything. This is -- finally -- excellent news.
It's also not enough. All previously pre-tinted costume pieces MUST be stripped of their pretints OR an alternate non-tinted option MUST be given.
It's great that "going forward" the designers will -- finally -- be doing the right thing with this, but it doesn't help anyone who's already purchased completely unusable pieces. -
Quote:The new Halloween pack is intended to be funny, which is the reason I like it so much. It's designed to evoke Z-list monster movies from the '50s and dime-store Halloween costumes from the '60s. The designs also largely reference Ed Wood and Hammer horror films, and I'm a huge fan of both.both, though I'd love to see a good concept using either of the new female faces. I think they both look pretty terrible. I mean, the vampire face *looks* good, but the expression on the face makes it look terrible.
If you're not particularly a fan of either, though, I can see why the new pack would be a disappointment. It's my favorite pack ever, though; I think it's perfectly designed and utterly hysterical. -
As a monster movie/Halloween/Ed Wood/Hammer horror fanatic, I want to go on record as saying that I love, Love, LOVE this set!
As the kids used to say a couple of years ago, I see what you did there. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant designs. I love the homages, I love the concept, I love the humor -- I love everything about it.
Exceeeeeept for one tiny thing: the locked-in color on the Medusa face makes it impossible to match with any other skin color. I have to say I don't understand why there's any permanent tinting on any costume piece. It's always an obstacle, always frustrating and always unnecessary. If you all could just stop doing that altogether, it would be great. Instead of limiting the use of your designs and the options of your customers, shouldn't you want to be opening them up?
That perma-quibble aside (but it is a big quibble), this pack is sheer perfection. Thank you! And happy Halloween! -
I don't have access to the game right this second, but there's a "Barbarian" selection under "Gloves". I know this because the selection drives me crazy.
The selection is for 1) bracelets that match the upper arm ring bracers and cover bare flesh or 2) bracelets that match the upper arm bracers and cover tights. What drives me nuts is that you can make the Barbarian belt and upper arm ring bracers two-tone but you can only make the bracelets one-tone with or without the tights gloves, which you can also only make one-tone, which means you can't match these three Barbarian parts unless they're all one-tone. And the belt and bracers look so good two-tone.
Thank you for allowing me to share my pain. -
I want to hate these designs, but I can't. I will dearly miss the old CoT, though. I'm going to get my fill of fighting them then, while I still can.
-
The concept of the speedster lends itself to a "spandex" look, which is both the traditional comic book superhero look and one that it seems I almost never see in CoH. Understandable, considering the abundance of non-spandex choices we have. But every single one of the spandex-esque costumes here are wonderful and a reminder of how much can be done with just the basics. From the elegant simplicity of Fox Race to the dynamic duds of Mr. Velocity -- well done, everyone!

In advance of the pack going live tomorrow, I just wanted to say that I've sincerely enjoyed everyone's contribution to this thread. It's been a pleasure seeing everyone's designs and following the lively discussion. I'm looking forward to this particular booster more than any other to date and I've greatly appreciated the introduction and the inspiration that everyone who's contributed here has provided.

Quote:This may be the one costume issue that drives me the most crazy. The wedding pack is an excellent example: why oh why can the bridal skirt be two colors but the exact same design up top can be only one? I have used a second color on the skirt exactly never when I'm matching it with the top. Why would I? So then why have a second color be possible on the skirt?Actually if you check there are several pieces as well as the new ones that need dual color fixing, both of the ladies wedding pack tops...
I told you this drives me crazy. Not thrilled that it's part of the new pack, as well; I can deal with limited choices because of locked colors (though why limit player choices at all when it's a choice to do so?) but not because of missing colors. Please stop doing this. -

You are my new hero! I've been hoping someone would do exactly this. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

This is one of my favorite things about CoH EVER. Brilliantly done from start to finish. You really know your Vogue AND your CoH. From the location shots to the ads, everything is wonderful! You got the layout of the magazine down perfectly and even used the game's limitations to excellent effect. I'll never look at the mannequin faces and stilted poses of the denizens of Paragon City the same way ever again!
