Quote:This is the thing right there.I ask a simple question: does this make Tankers more fun to play?
Unfortunately any thoughts I have to make Tankers more fun to play (for me) make them into brutes or scrappers just as any thoughts I have to make defenders more fun to play (for me) turn them into blasters or corruptors.
To me both are anachronisms of an increasingly irrelevant concept of the trinity and with power set proliferation I just don't have any reason to play either of these ATs. -
Quote:I would bet on new booster packs and not being in the existing boosters for two reasons which are selling new boosters would be the primary one and to avoid the potential problems of adding them into the current boosters. So are these going to be released in a separate booster pack? or are they going to be added in the existing boosters?
Where the real speculation lies is on whether these would, when they come to live, be convertible from the existing ones or not as out of set conversions. -
Quote:I forget who the forum poster was who dumped his luck charms so we all threw ours out there and how low the price dipped. Was it 9k?Yeah, been there, done that, flipped the t-shirt. But go ahead and try. The more people there are who discover on their own just how difficult it is to control prices, the fewer people there will be who blame every price they don't like on some shadowy evil cartel.
EDIT: Just logged in my old Luck Charmer character for the first time in 316 days. Apparently, in the past year, I bought 10 Luck Charms for 16,000 inf each and sold 10 for 250,000 each. Time to reset his bids and offers. -
I'd say head on down to the suggestions forum and flesh out a complete pool and see how it goes.
I can imagine one which my masterminds would happily take to have yet even more minions to do their dirty work. -
I think making it similar to the inventions' license but perhaps at 2x the price of that but at that point a person might as well sub.

Quote:We have time travel. Bring out dinosaurs and Romans!Happy B-day.
Good idea.
I had hoped for a Praetorian "Lost World" style zone (what exactly is the rest of the world "reclaimed" by Hamidon like beyond the sonic wall?) but that doesn't seem to be the trend. A Cimeroran arena would do the trick. -

Where is the Like button?
I like Zwill addressing this.
I like Zwill taking our concerns to the PTB.
I like Zwill dealing with our cranky members (myself included).
If our game had skills he would have gained points in calming a mob. -
Quote:I don't know that your characterization of "sitting on it" is 100% correct though I know many probably see it that way. To delay it for the obvious anniversary ploy would cement the view. And since they've already been sitting on it for months what's another couple of weeks going to matter? The people who are upset by the delay are already upset - who else is going to get any more upset now?
And that would actually move me from disapointed/annoyed to angry. I wouldn't want to assume anyone else's reaction but it would seem probable that others would also migrate further along the dissatisfaction path.
Generally it is not thought to be a good idea to intentionally provoke people. -
Quote:To me it doesn't even matter what they would tie to selling in conjunction with celebrating the anniversary (unless it is a sale on all items concept). The problem is it becomes, "Come celebrate out aniversary we're givening you the chance to buy a present from us!", Riot games did the exact same thing with a community favourite skin, and got the piss royally taken out of them.
For example if today were the day and it was "Come celebrate a lion of an achievement, our 8th Anniversary, by buying your very own lion pet today!" I would think they were off their rockers. -
Exicted and agitated are not exactly the same emotions.

Quote:Or if it would just attack NPCs. No more civilians are going to be pushing me out of their way.I am not angry and I do not believe the devs are engaging in anything malicious. I do understand the reasoning behind using the four leg model so much; it is shiny and new and it reportedly took a lot of resources to make. Let's hope that as time passes the shiny wears off and people in charge of these things stop thinking of terms of "gotta recoup that cost RIGHT NAO" so we can get back to other themes and not have people rolling their eyes at yet another badly skinned and poorly scaled quadruped.
You know, I would pay good money for a COMBAT pet similar to the german shepherd. Even if it was like -3 to my effective level, it would be pretty cool to have Rufus out there chewing up runners. -
Quote:To me it would seem odd to celebrate the 8th anniversary by selling a powerset in coordination with it. So unless they are going to give out staff fighting to all VIPs on the anniversary, withholding it until then seems odd to me.People seem to have forgotten the likely elephant in the room - the game's 8th anniversary is coming up in a few weeks. My guess is that they are saving Staff Fighting for a release in another week or two to better correspond to the big "celebration" they are going to have for that.
P.S. Not I'm not implying they should give us elephant vanity pets either.
"It's out anniversary and to celebrate you get to buy stuff!" just seems a bit lame of a theme. -
Quote:Things we must buy to get we don't actually get unless we buy them so while the studio has released many things since Freedom, ones I have no interest in and have nor purchased really won't matter to me.I continue to be amazed at how people can seemingly complain more now that we are getting -more- stuff than we ever did before.
The counter-intuition behind this state of affairs is almost mind-boggling.
So it's not entirely counter-intuitive as Freedom has brought another layer of the process to our thinking. -
Quote:Agreed. As long as people are not threatening to burn down PS office or something, others need to step back and allow people to provide feedback that PS can take or leave.
It is not cool to try to muffle your fellow players feedback, not cool at all. Step away if you are happy and allow the voices of those that are not be heard.
For me? I really want staff fighting so each week it is not released I am disappointed. I am not angry, just disappointed.
That they cannot market items coming up ahead of time with a caveat of "barring unforseen circumstances" is baffling. People will complain no matter what but to me it seems better to announce "Coming to the Market next week: X*" *barring unforseen circumstances
Each week they release something I don't want only keeps me from spending my points until they do give me what I want.
I am completely baffled by the vanity pets. I took vet one about 3 times before the current system when I lazily click the Claim All and just choose one never to use it. But apparently enough people must like them to validate the efforts to create and sell them. -
But it makes the decision pretty easy for me when they get priced like this. They could sucker me in if the vanity pets were like 100pp each but when they price them so high that I just laugh and walk away I think it is better for me.

Quote:Enhancement unslotter is special salvage which allows you to pull an enhancement out of your build and put it in your tray.also, poking around the costume editor last night I happened across something called PATH AURAS.
Very, very nice!
IMHO way cooler than the ever-contentious Power Slide sprint, I have several characters who'll be making use of these if I ever get their slots unlocked. I'm assuming these are Paragon Rewards of some sort- other than collecting all my familiar vet reward stuff I haven't poked around the system much.
My email's clogged with assorted weird things like "enchancement unslotters" and the like, I guess I should find out what they all do...
If you have none in your character's personal inventory it will offer to take you to the Paragon Market.
http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Enhancement_Unslotter
There are also boosters:
http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Enhancement_Booster
And a large variety of other items you may want to review at Paragon wiki before claiming. -
See, this is how you build interest/suspense/excitement. Tell the marketing people no news at all just annoys. They need to learn to tease.

Back to the staff melee release tomorrow I shall emphatically state it will not happen.
*I hope they prove me wrong -
QFT and annoyance when living in some towns where you can have different aged children in different districts. So glad not to be living in one of those now.

Quote:That's the drawback to Paragon Studios' reliance on instanced mission conent. They need to add either more mission options in the shared world or create more zone-wide events if players are ever going to break out of the single-player mentality.
That's literally the approach the devs took with Galaxy City. Even the well-received revamp of Dark Astoria is a complete break with the original version in terms of continuity. Positron has stated in the forums that it's easier for them to start from scratch when it comes to refurbishing old content, as though that justifies the schism between CoH Freedom and CoH Classic.Quote:There's also the industry trend away from open-environment questing to instanced content as MMORPGs move away from the sandbox model and toward the theme park one.
The X-Men and its innumerable spin-offs are probably the best fit for a superheroic MMO environment. (The Fantastic Four are as much a disfunctional family as a team, and the JLA are like the Kiwanis with superpowers.)
Based upon experiences in a couple other MMOs, I also don't get the sense that many developers know how to do open world stuff or that it takes more effort than to create the closed instances.
Of course the way the games are let me often repeat the line from "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer" "Let's be independent together." -
Quote:I think this is due more to the genre than anything else. I would expect that most people think of super heroes as solo operatives who team up against greater threats due to our experiences from reading the comic books. That's the drawback to Paragon Studios' reliance on instanced mission conent. They need to add either more mission options in the shared world or create more zone-wide events if players are ever going to break out of the single-player mentality.
The only team coming to my mind right now that is a group first is the Fantastic Four but when I think of the other groups of heroes they are all soloists who teamed up: JLA, Avengers, etc.
While MMOs started principally from being online versions of DnD where people are grouped and hopefully balanced groups so we wanted our tanker, buffer/debuffer, damage dealer and healer .
That is how I at least see how the games came about and what people expected from them.
