  1. I think certain themes don't really fit certain characters though. So I would be unwilling to apply a single theme across all of the various characters you could possibly encounter.

From a purely bias standpoint, themes sound like they could be fun but the reality would be that it's impossible to expect it to go smoothly with everyone.

    Fire/Fire/Ice FTW.

My main Massacre Melanie is quite the little villain. She hates both heroes and other villains.

    Fire/Dark APP

I'm Mu Mastery all the way. Fire/Dark is a complete end hog and Power Sink makes life *so* much easier. Plus it gives me the uber offensive combo of Inferno + Blue + Power Sink = Neverending Pain. The resistance shield is great for having layered defense types and it makes you nigh invulnerable to energy damage when stacked with DN and SF.

The version of Soul Drain that Soul Mastery gives you is the *worst* version in the entire game, so it's not really all that hot to take. But the shield is good and so is the newly added Power Boost, so it's second in my opinion.

A good Tar Patch is slotted with slows, so the AoE immob is relatively redundant IMO. The things that are resistant to slow are also usually resistant to immobs and when things are caught in a Tar Patch, they tend to die too fast to need an immob for them.
  4. I liked the first round of this quite a bit. I'll go for a second.
  5. I actually had this come up on another forum I browse and while it's an interesting idea, I fear that too many people here are over sensitive of their characters, so you'd either get someone beating the snot out of their opponent for 5 panels, or the reverse and having them get beaten up for 5 panels. Either way, the natural progression of the battle is disrupted.

Also, a change in scenery could spell doom for artists who weren't good at that particular background. Moving the fight into a crowded subway, an open train yard or a green city park might be too much for certain people.

The concept is totally cool and the idea of seeing your characters battling it out amongst themselves is great, but the ideal will likely give way to the reality. Each person is going to have different ideas about how it should go. Then how do you end it?

    Small Request

It seems like you're new, so rather than my usual response, I suggest you read this sticky thread:
    https://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat...e=0&fpart=1

You're close to driving off any artist who might have otherwise drawn your hero.

I am sorry if it looks nothing like Posi to you, because it comes across to me as something he could have easily worn at some point. I think I mentioned that my movie was set during the time of Rikti War, which I believe to be some time ago. So think of this version as my impression of Posi, rather than a poor replica of the one he is supposed to be wearing in Steel Canyon.

Well, you have to remember that as an art piece, it's the artist's responsibility to convey the message they want across to their viewer. If someone doesn't see what you see, they're not 'wrong' they just didn't get the message. Perhaps that's due to opinion, perhaps that's because you didn't do a good enough job in trying to show what you want, perhaps it's just differences in people's perception.

As the artist, you're far too close to the piece to be an accurate judge of what it is or isn't. Nobody knows what you're supposed to be rendering, aside from what their eyes and experience tells them. If your artistic choices got in the way of recognizing the subject, it's not other people's fault for not seeing that.

That has no bearing on whether or not you're *happy* with the piece, but that's the brutal nature of art and showing it off.
  8. Because the same thing can be said in favor of the artist. Artists commonly get screwed exactly the same way by cut-and-run commissioners.

The perfect way to handle it is through an escrow type of service, but those are generally far to hard to work with to make it a realistic choice.
  9. If you do not enforce rules, there is no reason to have them. Either have suggestions and themes instead, or do away with the rules period. Then it becomes an enforcement by group vote. If an artist goes too far off the suggestion, it would be up to the fans to vote them out or keep them in.
  10. My vote goes with Tartyrsauce, it was a really wild direction to go in, but it looks JUST like an old 70's move poster and it's so unique between all the other entries.

I'm actually surprised that Juggy got so many votes, considering he basically just copied the CoX logo and then put a scene around it. As far as I understood, that was to be frowned upon because it was copying a pre-existing poster. If people made a stink about Shia's use of celebrity names in his entry then I don't get why everyone else can overlook something else this blatant.

Opinions never cease to amaze me in this group.
  11. Every one of you is wrong and only I am right. Discuss. :3
  12. The very idea of teachers in art is a contradiction. You cannot teach someone how to be an artist. You can however teach them to perform certain skills that can make doing art easier for them. But the longer you teach them a particular skillset, the more likely you are to stunt their experimentation into other mediums.

Art is a very 'out of the box' quality, but in order for most people to become proficient in producing their ideas, they have to go further and further into a box. This does not apply for everyone, as there are some people who are very free spirits as well as some people who have extreme natural talent. But for Joe average, they need someone to teach them the mental and physical skills required to produce finished pieces, yet not confine them into sedimentary thought.

That's the major problem most people face. Teachers aren't generally teaching you how to be good at art. They're teaching you how to be good at a particular skillset. That itself has nothing to do with how good of an artist you will become.
  13. Not everyone handles being schooled at their own subject matter as well as others do.

I see a lot of truth on both sides of the debate here and I see a lot of unwarranted personal attacks and hate on both sides too. The fact of the matter is that NOBODY is an expert on comic art here, or what "comic art" even entails. So I'd care to point out that none of you have any factual basis with which to claim superiority over each other.

    Seriously guys.

I can further interject more debate by saying that comic books are not a genre at all. They are a medium and thusly have no particular style whatsoever. You can all argue back and forth about it for ages and it won't change anything. It's an opinion. Take that for what it's worth.

  16. I tend to stay out of stuff like this usually, since I don't consider my own characters to 'match' other people's very well. Especially when they're well known characters, since it feels like both are vying over superiority and popularity in a single pic. But after thinking about it for a while and trying to learn about Bayani himself, I think that there's an opportunity for something more than just a cool piece of art.

I'm of the opinion that 'Massacre' Melanie could serve as an interesting counter point to Bayani in a number of ways, which I'll outline.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

    * Bayani is a hero based on self control and a mastery of himself and his emotions. He's calm, cool and measured, even while having a raging inferno inside of him. His background and the support of the people around him helped to forge him into what he is today. On the other side, Melanie is layers of writhing chaos stitched together with rage and pain. Her power comes directly from the entropy in her very being and the separation of her suppressed and dominant personalities. Melanie was also forged by her own background, but instead of love and kindness, she only encountered abuse and aggression.

    * Both Bayani and Melanie are spirits of the flame. Each one has the same combustible forces welling up inside of them, spurning them into action. Bayani chooses to become the master of his element, shaping it and honing the destruction into a fine tool for good. He takes a wildfire and crafts it into a laser scalpel. Melanie is a slave to her own pyromantic desires. The BURN controls her, she only obeys it's destructive power. Melanie chooses to relinquish control to her inner element. She takes a match and ignites it into a firestorm.

    * A helping hand from a mentor saved Bayani from possibly spiraling out of control into a well of anger and sorrow from the loss of his love. The support he gained taught him to be a stronger person and to use his strength in positive ways, rather than to harm others. Melanie's 'mentor' took her apart, step by step in an effort to turn a kind hearted soul into a living weapon. She actively despises the people who call themselves 'heroes' because she was never saved from such a fate, herself. Tales of redemption and kindness enrage her as much as they hurt her, stirring up all her old wounds to be raw and fresh again.

    * Since Bayani is a martial artist, he has much more control and knowledge of his own internal energies than the average person. He can channel his chi into augmenting his internal and external forces. Compared to the average person, he would be a living reactor of life energy. Melanie is somewhat vampiristic. While she is most definitely not of the undead, Melanie's own internal energies can be used in much the same way that Bayani uses his own. Melanie chooses to use her energies to invoke magical spells and produce her internal fire, but they take a toll upon her. Over time, she has learned to not only sap her opponent's life force, regaining her vitality, but she can directly sap their internal life energy, adding it to her own magical reserves. Bayani would be a feast of beautiful flames in front of her.

    * The combat between the two would be interesting, as Bayani is primary a melee martial artist. Perhaps with some ranged attacks and abilities. Melanie physically weak, but has a multitude of ranged and area powers to call upon. Bayani would likely be able to close the distance between then and read some of her attacks, Melanie makes use of active teleportation in combat, as well as invisibility and deception. She loves to 'haunt' her opponents, before finding the perfect opportunity to strike. Bayani would perhaps be one of the opponents most acutely aware of his surroundings, making it much more difficult to stalk him. Though Melanie's madness and chaotic streaks make her hard to pin down as well. A fight between them would likely be a prolonged chase of sorts. Melanie hoping to wear down Bayani to the point where he could be handled, Bayani trying to catch Melanie's mistakes to put her down in a quick melee battle.

    * The final point is that their rivalry would be a possibility to be ongoing for a long while. Bayani is mostly impervious to her fire powers and Melanie has all the tools to self heal indefinitely. I can't assume much about his personality or how he would react to her aggressions, though I can assure you that Bayani makes for a fascinating toy to play with. He's skilled in combat, certainly aware enough to see through most of her tricks, a huge source of potential energy to sap, a fellow flame user waiting to have his internal fire exploded into a destructive salvo and a model of the very thing that she hates the most. Someone who not only enjoyed a good life and the support and love of people around him, but who was saved from a self destructive spiral of pain and loss. If anything would drive Melanie to pursue him in an effort to strip him of everything that he held dear, it would be that. To her, Bayani deserves to feel the same pain she does; everyone in the world does.

    Birthday Art!

    Uh oh! Spankings ahoy! :3
  18. I would say that her hips are looking a tad small and it's compounded by the fact that her fan and arms are radiating out of the upper part of her body. Makes her look top heavy.

Her right leg (camera left) seems to be bent at a very odd angle too. Perhaps it's the costume, but if the rings on her legs are following a horizontal pattern, then her lower right leg is beyond it's natural movement point. I would suggest changing the pattern to indicate that her leg is still pointing downwards. It's confusing to have the pattern go '( ) (' instead of '( ( (' or even '( | )'.

Your style is very pretty and this has a lot of potential to be a great piece, you'll just want to make sure everything is in it's proper place before you commit to inks.
  19. I'm not allowed to comment on costumes anymore. ;_;
  20. As usual, I would if only I had money to spend! Damn that tricky 'being broke' problem. I'll cheer for you from the sidelines though, since I hope you get a few bites.
  21. The post was quoting a specific link which had nothing to do with the subject of the question. There was no way to figure out what he was talking about based on the info given. I call shenanigans.

I don't mind losing out to you, but t'was a cruel, cruel trick.

    Soul Drain

Soul Drain is terrible for Corruptors, I always advise people away from it. Compared to the Dark Melee version, it recharges twice as slowly, costs 25% more end, hits less targets max, does less damage, has less to-hit and less damage buff per mob hit.

It's literally worse in ever way possible aside from having the same range of 10 feet.
