Quote:My gallery doesn't support linking to the showimage very well, so you have to link directly to the image file itself. I'm *guessing* that you're referring to this pic:Might make more sense when you see what she is comtemplating.
I also didn't think Mel capable of the softer emotions until I dug around and turned up images like this.
And yes, she has the capability for such. Everyone's characters are likely not just simple one sided personalities and mine is no different. I just don't generally write stories about her, so people don't know. -
No. I'll post where I want to and when I want to.
I was all set to leave it alone until someone else wanted to play again. If you want avoid all of this, run your contest fairly and accurately. -
Quote:Check out Vertical Studios' videos. They're generally considered some of the best.OH my god, that is AWESOME. thank you so much for posting that. I'm in love. Haha, Clamor is GLaDOS.
I wish there were more of those sorts of vids involving CoH. A Vahzilok one would complete my life...
I put that song on my iPod.It is wonderful!

This is a pirate thread. 'Nuff said.

No, the fact remains that no matter what anyone submit this month, they were all guaranteed to make it through. *That* is immunity and everyone shared it equally. Nobody was granted anything above or below anyone else and that's the issue I have. What's the point of winning a prize in a competition when that same prize is given to everyone else?
You might have a different opinion than I do, but my logic is sound. A competition between people was had, a winner was chosen and promised a reward that separated them from the others. That was not granted.
Going by this method, I could get 12 friends to enter the contest and have each one drop out every month to insure that I made it into the final. There's no contest at that point. I've said before that we should really just have an Art Jam at this point, because this forum can't handle a hard rule set.
Case in point:
Quote:There will be only one entry allowed per person, and it is due no later than September 26th at midnight PST.. Voting will be held the following week. If there is no entry submitted or it is late, you automatically forfeit and lose your spot on the rankings board.Quote:Well - I'm pretty sure I'm LATE - looks like I missed it by almost an hour!Quote:I don't think i am going to hold an hour against Apro btw. I was a lot later than you brother!
I am if anything a moderator at heart. In all the years I've been running boards and keeping the peace, I've learned that you simply cannot have a lapse in judgment because of personal feelings. Rules are there for a reason and if you put them into place, you absolutely must follow them. If you don't want to follow them, then just don't have them. You cannot have it both ways. Someone always gets caught in the cracks. People already have this year. -
That pile of sketches is surely the greatest booty mine tired eyes have set sight upon! Thar be rainbows and gold and zombies that vomit candy, I tell ya!

I've had my chars copied over for a while now. I'm reasonably active on Test Server as is.

Frankly, I think it's beautiful. It's very well done, to the point where I flipped it and it still looked pretty much right. I also love pencil lines greatly and this pic is a great example of why. The flow of the hair and the delicate areas that wisp off the larger lines are very pretty.
I'd tweak the eyes a little, since it's easy to let them get stylized too much and become unbalanced, so rather than having the contour lines have the same outward expanding cone shape:
I'd draw them more as if you're drawing them from the front, with the contour lines being balanced on both sides, opposite of each other:
I did a bad job of it, with my mouse, but you get the idea. Since she's turned to the side, you'll see less of the far eye, but their shape would still be essentially the same. -
I have the opposite problem. I can't stand having a tiny tablet. My arm wants to move much more than the tablet will allow and I can't properly translate the scale effectively. I'd be much happier with a 1 to 1 movement from the tablet to the screen. :<

I don't ink anymore for the most part. Instead of inking, I simply do a blue line under draft in Colerase pencil, then do tight pencils on top of that. Then I remove the blue lines in Photoshop and adjust levels so that my pencil lines are dark.
When I used to ink the old fashioned way, I'd take my original drawing and then layer rag vellum over it, inking with a 0.5 Micron Sakura pen. If you go this route, I suggest 50% rag vellum sheets since they have enough paper content to not make the pens run, while having enough vellum to make the paper transparent enough to see through.
Vellum is easy enough to get in any drafting or most office supply stores. It's like 'Tracing Paper Plus.' -
Time, Pirate Cashoo? Is it really that time again? It seems as if you only just arrived. You've done a great deal in a small time span. You've done so well, in fact, that I've received some interesting offers for your services.
Happy Birthday Cashoo. -
Yes, even if you have immunity you have to submit a piece to stay in the competition. If you want to vote for Foo, then just say so. Don't use some false excuse to do so.
-
Well my vote goes to Shia, because although I absolutely love the humor of Foo's Pither piece, I think Shia hit it out of the ballpark this month.
Though I'm still upset that Shia's winning immunity doesn't mean jack this month. Even though someone dropped out, that doesn't really make it better that everyone else got immunity as well. That's pretty crappy in my opinion.
Quote:Since Shia has immunity and therefore the vote would be useless, I'm voting Foo.Quote:but since Shia has immunity so I would have to choose my boy "The Foo". -
Quote:Wait, I don't think that could have been less confusing.Immunity for this month is the final immunity granted. We have our elimination for this month already so next month we still have three contestants should they choose to continue to participate. At the end of next month we will have our final 2 artists to battle it out for the title for the following month and ultimately for the year.
So yeah immunity this month is especially important. Vote like your life depends on it people!
Whomever wins this month, do they get immunity for October? Yes or No?
If nobody gets immunity for October, why are we voting?
If nobody is going to be voted out this month, doesn't that mean Shia's immunity is worthless?
I'm not understanding this at all. >_< -
I'm gonna 86 it on outta here in a Toyota Trueno GT-Apex (AE86) with Maxwell Smart (Agent 86) as my co-pilot.

ROFL, that's great.
I actually have an AR/Traps corruptor that I dressed up like a Longbow just as a nod to Barbie there.
I thought about the rocky texture myself, to simulate lava crust, but it's supposed to be smoother and more supernatural than that. I've tried again and again, but what I want just isn't possible. -
It's too hard to tell what you mean by fire in the eyes. I've always just assumed that her eyes lost any pupil and simply glowed intensely.
Quote:2. Are her eyes always green or would they turn red amid burn.
Quote:3. Placement/shape of the horns ok?
Quote:4. In the Vulcan pics you put up the horns are longer, do mels ever change shape size or curvature or are they a constant?
Quote:5. Placement/shape of the ears ok?
Quote:6. By pronounced bangs do you mean some hair always has to fall forward across the forehead? Or just that there has to be more recognizable sections?
Quote:7. How close is Mel to her look in the CC reference as far as the face... or was that face chosen because of the pronounced green eyes?
Quote:8. Pronounced canines yay or nay?
Quote:9. "joker grin" too much? In other words should I keep her mouth normal size and just curl it back for the effect or can it stretch?
Quote:10. How much of her actually becomes fire and what happens to her clothes?
At that point, Mel's skin washes over with the supernatural darkness of her black magic so that it's nothing but a swirl of pitch black shadow with visible splits and tears in it where her inner core of fire seeps out, like lava on an active volcano. Her fae blood mixes with the elemental nature of fire and she becomes similar to an ifrit. Since Melanie is a Fire/Dark corruptor and I like to tout that she was the first (Fire/Dark even in Beta) her ultimate form has the elements of such.
Since I also have a crusade against black outfits, I think it's amusing to have a supernaturally black segment of her look as well.
This is as close as I ever got to a look I was happy with in the game, though it's only because I'm frustrated with the character creator that I finally settled on it. If I had my way, I would have something much more akin to the Vulcan pictures I linked earlier.
Quote:11. Bonus question what's this emoticon mean? :3 is that like curly villain mustache or something? (Also the emoticons here on the forum really suck, sorry but the rolleyes don't even roll their eyes what's up with that? the smiley, mad and stick-out-tongue are passable at least but the rest /e thumbdown)
I know some people have more of an idea of what their characters are like and what they're not like, while others don't really care as much. I'm one of the few that's very picky with my character because, one, I'm an artist myself. Two, I'm actually pretty picky with everyone's characters. Finally, three, believe or not, I've had Melanie for over 13 years. She's a character that I had throughout high school and college, my artistic muse and a personal mascot. She existed long before this game ever did, so my passions go well beyond the limitations of it. This new 'evil' version of her is relatively recent though still around 4 years old. -
I think that nobody's found Taclobanon because they're stashed away in Area 51.
-
When Mel manifests her BURN into it's penultimate form she looks similar to the Vulcans from Odin Sphere:
Though I appreciate the effort on your part. Thank you. :3
I think my main issue is the same one that Caemgen has. It's not recognizable as Mel anymore, since the distorted features are more androgynous. Though the hair manifesting as fire is right on the money, since that's what it was always meant to be a symbol of in the first place. Don't take it the wrong way though, since I'm always appreciative of any art I get. You just happen to be open to discussion, so you get the feedback that I normally hold back.
If you could soften the features up so it's more feminine and find a way to reconcile hair that flows upwards, with a hairstyle that has pronounced bangs then it would be much more recognizable as the character. -
Quote:OMG, you're going to go crazy from boredom there. o.OOh, so true. u_u That's the exact reason why my family is moving to Colorado, haha. But gotta admit, San Jose is quite nice...
