Quote:http://i49.tinypic.com/dyvre9.jpgI've actually toyed with a green version of him... But skin tone, not clothes
The green was glaring when I first saw it... Probably because it was totally unexpected. I'm growing more used to it the more I see it... Not positive liking it more but... Hmmm.
better? -
Yes you can. There are a number of basic fills and gradients that you can use with vectors that are also based on mathematic algorithms so they scale with the linework as well. I'm quite positive that there are all new and intricate patterns and fills to make use of now. It's been years since I touched illustrator or flash at all.

Quote:Cashoo, you dunno how long I've been advising people to do exactly that, for their costumes. I'm delighted that you do it for your artwork.Yup, I've been doing that with my pictures a lot nowadays. Including the zombie one. Usually I'll change the darkest color to a very, very dark value of a color that is already in the picture in attempt to "tie" it together more, or I'll use a color that contrasts against the main color of the picture. I do this in the 'Curves' adjustment in Photoshop. I personally like it more than boring old black. However, I do leave it black in some pictures if I find it looks better that way.
Quote:In Mel's case, I was so glad her eyes were green against her firey colors theme, since green and red are complimentary colors and it really stands out.
Also, it's just a fun co-incidence that girls with red hair and green eyes were considered to be supernatural and were persecuted as witches. Typically punished by burning at the stake. I thought that it's a delightfully amusing twist of fate for the witch to burn them instead. -
Quote:That's cause the Mel pic that you're seeing here is a lower quality JPeG of the original PNG file. I don't like to spam up the boards with 500+ KB files, so I lower the quality appropriately. I kept the PNG file for myself.
I'm curious if you were you trying a different technique with Mel? It doesn't have the normal vibrance and sharpness of your other colored works?
Also, there's a difference in contrast here that's unusual for most Cashoo pics. Generally, she likes to use dark colors and blacks to contrast with the bright colors, making them pop out of the pic vividly. In this case, the whole thing is washed in oranges, so there's less contrast and thusly each individual color pops less. Though, interestingly enough, the abundance of warm colors makes Mel's green eyes glow, which is a detail that I love. -
I'm generally always interested, which is why I'm so chatty there. Though I admit that even I wonder how many people are enjoying the active discussion. Speak up peeps!

I love the AE since I can make new and interesting missions for my overachieving SG to undertake. While I'm no storyteller, I know my way around the game mechanics pretty well. Sadly, there's no category for 'good mission design' in the awards. :<

No, obviously the people have spoken. It's the fact that Mel's in it that they love it. See, double the Mel has driven your +favs to new heights. Obviously the only logical solution is to draw more of Melanie. *nod nod*

I generally hate having anything to do with tattoos, because I don't want the responsibility of having something I did be on someone else forever. But in this case, I don't want the responsibility of *not* doing something to help a possible outcome.
In fleshtone, because that's what you should judge it against.
and with the green

I didn't realize how much I enjoyed the streams on Thursday until there wasn't one. ;_;

Graver is the living portal to the realm of unbelievium. For many years, mankind has sought to open this door and exploit the unlimited wealth inside, but Graver is a crafty and sly fellow and has evaded the corrupted touch of humans for many years. We are lucky enough to witness just a small measure of his power.

If I wanted a sculpture of my characters, I'd just do it myself! At least that way, I can guarantee it happening.

Your final step doesn't have enough contrast for it to show well. Instead of adding shadow and highlight, you're effectively just blurring the image since the eye can't pick up the edges well. Increase the depth of the shadow and highlight you add to the image, so that it's obvious where they're supposed to begin and end. That'll add more volume to the images as well.

Agreed, I also work at 300 dpi unless the work requires otherwise. It's a good size because it's print quality, without being too hefty of a pixel depth to store effectively. Once you get into the 600+ range, most computers really chug and the file sizes skyrocket.
If you cannot handle 300, then use 150. Always try to work in multiples of roughly 75dpi when you intend to display it online. The way most graphic programs work, if you try to scale from a strange percentage, the computer has to artificially make up new pixels which lead to inaccurate and blurry pics. If you do a straight 50%, 100%, 200% reduction, then the computer just simply cuts half, a quarter, an eighth, etc pixels out of the picture without making up new data. This results in cleaner and more accurate works. -
Because jumping into a spawn of Super Arachnoids in the hopes that the boss will use his melee hold web cocoon on me, just isn't the same with a male toon.
