or any other box like object.... heck add a few and make it random which one pops like how alakzam works now. -
I do have a pet peeve about people that throw around there cosmic scale powers and get all huffy when someone calls them on it.
God Dude "I can render this whole place ash moral stand aside!"
Super Ice Melt Man "What? No I had this seat first."
God Dude "Don't make me mad I'll turn this whole place to ash!"
Super Ice Melt Man "Um... I'm not buying that so no."
God Dude "I can I'm God Dude and have god like powers."
Super Ice Melt Man "Sure well then just do it if you can."
And then it degrades into OOC arguing about how SIMM needs to just move because GD totally can turn him to ash and thats that. And then it usually will degrade into bystanders putting there 2 cents in. In the end GD will usually storm off complaining how no body really understand how to RP correctly.
Now while it can be argued both are RPing poorly and SIMM could have just moved along and let GD have his RP ego trip. It just bothers me when people RP out of the blue this sort of thing thinking everyone will just bend over and let them go with it. I mean if you REALLY need to RP that sort of ego trip a friendly tell first would keep it from turning into a mess. -
mind go to 2014.... It looks like that just set it up so you can seen when you will be getting your rewards. up to the 96 month marker.

Along these lines I actually enjoy playing CP level characters that lost there CP level powers.
I have a Few guys that are cut off avatars of mytho gods. They had CP level powers once and they might get them one day but for now they are just a shadow of there former selves.
Tru Nembra for example is based off the outer god of the same name. In his case hes a vary tiny peace of that entity stuffed into a suit of leather. Far Far under CP power level but with a CP background. And his goal is to just get out of this realm.
Yet I still sometimes get the whole "Your stupid for playing a god its just stupid you stupid head" when he hangs out in D. Shrug to each there own a guess.
Personally I don't mind people playing CP characters as long as they are not god modding the RP all the time. I don't care if you could eat the universe as long as you don't eat my RP fun that I'm trying to have. -
Yeah hes 22 now so I'm looking into where I can plug those into his build to give them a Spin. Right now I'm having a lot of fun with Drain Psyche then Psionic Tornado + Psychic Scream to just wipe out every minion around.
-
As someone that has more then one mytho related character totally this.
But honestly for the most part I just ignore it unless it some how effects the RP that is currently going on. If it does effect the current RP (like I crashed or something) it really depends on the character but usually it just some variant oh "Oh sorry I was just distracted." -

Quote:Yes I have a WP/DB tank that is vary much the action hero. I did not take any travel powers for him and have the WP effects turned off. Hes really fun to play too and yes Ninja run was a nice thing to come along for him but it something I only really use for zone crossing. Oddly dropping the travel power has actually made him better then my other WP toon. Picked up stamina sooner then needed becuase of it and frees up two power slots for wiggle room on the build (don't have city traveler yet).I do have one 'RP' character, my ninja blade/willpower stalker, who I envisioned as a 'regular guy' with a sword. So no travel powers, and I tabbed WP as being the least graphically obtrusive secondary (this was before power customization- now it's totally invisible which is even better).

Well yes that would be part of the idea for the characters. Johnson Supa Troll is more a for fun character hes from Mistkontic University after all. His draw back is hes lost most of his magic skills do to well dyne messing his head up. And while not an addict he does suffer from rage issues. But hes over all fun. Clarence Arkdine III my psychic troll has the whole ex-addict thing going for him and struggles to find 'a safer dyne' which we all know is going to be doomed to failure but that is why I like him hes a flawed character that is interesting to play.

Quote:I do like how you linked to the vary same page I do in my post. Yes I know all this already I even say in my post that yes superadine is bad bad stuff. The question is more about the shade of gray around the use of similar power granting methods used often in hero origins.http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Superadine
Read up young padawan, and may the war on Superadine continue~
I'd say it becomes a bad thing when it forces you to start smashing property and being overly aggressive. -
Sorry I seem to be on a thing these days about poking the forum for there point of view on odd subjects. You might have seen RP builds that are More RP and Less 'effective' and this is also along those lines.
We have all sorts of supers out there. And more then a few of them use some sort of 'enchantment' to turn super. Be it a potion or serum there are a lot of ways characters have to go from normal joe to super powered hero.
But now the question is at what point does one draw the line between those heroes and the Superadine powered trolls? Yes dyne is a street drug with lots and lots of bad effects. But some can say should the magic potion of Magic Dude would fall into the wrong hands it would be just as bad.
Full disclosure I have two Troll heroes right now. One is someone that was magicly infused with Dyne via a spell gone wrong and not a Dyne addict the other is a reformed Dyne addict that is one of the 1% that got dimensional mind powers. So hes sort of a mental troll.
What I find assuming is how in RP the troll = bad person comes up a lot. And sure it is a justifiable stereotype based on in game cannon. So I don't really fault it much but what gives me no end of amusement is when I run into a 'enchantment' using hero that has no problem telling me just how morally corrupt my Troll is becuase he was/is/has to be a druggie.
So at what point does using a performance enchaining elixir become a bad thing? -
Um wow seems my simple curiosity spawned more responses then I figured it would.
And let me say I was not suggesting building for theme meant gimping your build. Just wondering what extremes people have taken to stay on theme. I don't think I have ever got a character to be unplayable while sticking to theme.
Quote:Vary vary true. It is really hard to do but I've seen a few in the wild that have been pretty close. I do have to admit I did have a petless mastermind for awhile that was harsh to play but sort of fun mostly just did solo missions with him. This is CoX. You really have to go way out of your way to make a character truly "unplayable". Flexibility FTW!
Quote:Instead of just selecting less-than-optimal powers for concept/RP purposes I actually wish this game would go one step further and allow us to have real Disadvantages (i.e. Superman being vulnerable to Kryptonite). I think it would add a cool layer of "comicbook realism" to the game and force you to have to be tactically smart about what you tried to jump into.
Quote:a few years ago I had a character with out a travel power and did not really have an issue until I hit IP....my sg had 4 characters running with him that had all had tp friend and they all forgot about me...so after that I deleted him...
Quote:Well a "gimped" my Ill/Kin Controller by not taking Increased Density, Speed Boost or Inertial Reduction because I'm playing her kinetic powers as a form of shifting luck and therefore she can't "grant" teammates effects that she can't "shift" from an opponent. She also doesn't have Repel.
Quote:Concept first. Then maximize performance based on that concept.

Most of the time it is not an imagination issue. Most times it is just a simple personal choice that one or more powers do not fit into your theme as you see it. Sure you can shoehorn anything into a theme that does not mean you want to or even should.
Thanks for all the replies this has turned out to be a fun read guys. -
Well that that. Looks like OP is going to be AWOL for some time so lets go ahead and got rolling on this.
So time days that would be good? Personally I'm good for sun-thursday after 10pm EST and firdays I'm open. Saturdays are hit and miss since I have stuff IRL on that day and normally Saturday night is Troll night on virtue for me. -
Here is something that popped into my head while reading the thread about What if I didn't take my ally rez? and made me think. There have been times when I have skipped powers for Theme/RP reasons. Like I have a Grav/Kin that has only 3 kin powers and does not have SB.
So the question. Just how far are you willing to go to keep a character within your roleplay theme? Have you made unplayable characters to stay on theme? Do you feel Theme should take a back seat to effectiveness of the build? With the new options for power customization do you take powers and recolor them to act as other powers for theme (ie Dark/Dark colored red to make a blood mage)?
Just curious. -
Actually that last part would be cool. Phone Booth POOFs into existence next to you, you step in and come out in new costume.
-
Thanks for the info I'll give it a shot.
I've played a lot of blasters/defenders/corrupters before and never really missed having them. So I don't think I would call them essential. But still I'll give it a shot the question was more are two worth it more then anything else. -
I recently made Psychic Blast/Mental Manipulation blaster to toy around with and recently got him to 20. Hes a lot of fun but I skipped both build up powers Concentration from MM and Psychic Focus from PB. I've never really found Build ups all the useful But that could just be from play style. The question is with two 10s buffs can you stack them for one epic snipe to end all snipes? and is it really worth it?

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such a terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.
-
True ... Just trying to give the OP a chance so it does not seem like we are hijacking there idea is all.
-
-
I dig the SG idea. Worst comes to worst we can just keep it casual and if OP never returns at lest we will still have a little fun out of it.
And if OP never returns we could always expand the idea of the SG by letting others join but sticking to the Elemental format IE all characters would have to be based on one of the eight choices.
Hopefully OP will come back becuase it looks like they really put some thought into it. -
True... But the flip side to this is since we still have yet to see the OP in a wail we come to the other problem that plague static teams. Getting together at the same time. The larger the number of people that more problematic it becomes. (large SGs aside where the large number actully make it easier for people to get together)
Me, Premonitions, and Paradigm_Shift seem to run around the same sort of schedule but I have yet to bump into any of the other five.
I have no problem sitting at lvl 4 until we get everyone together but unless we have some sort of hard schedule once the team has been collected and started off I can see myself losing interest *looks at this nearly full character list* trust me I've been here before with other statics. Usually they start strong everyone gets started gets there ideas out and lays down the ground work. Then one of three things tend to happen. 1) no one ever can get everyone together at the same time and the static falls apart a few weeks later. 2) They can get together but it ends up being hit or miss with a weekly thing turning into a biweekly then monthly and then just slowly fading out. or 3) It works like a charm with weekly or biweekly get togethers and much fun to be had for all. Sadly the last tends to happen pretty rarely. But the more flexible groups tend to have more survivability becuase they allow for play time that can function without the whole group having to be there every time. But even they can fail by being to flexible and you end up with people at wildly different levels and then it can get into a issue of hows missions to run do you run the lower missions becuase they gel better with the RP theme and story or the higher missions which can turn into powerleveling which tend to be perty boring as the lower players do little more then follow the 50s around and chat.
I guess what the TL;DR version of this is. Need to get going soon or the fire will die and need to hammer out what the schedule and leveling policy will be. -
Quote:Hurt? Not so much I've taken my redside 50 down to noob levels before for teaming. Level +5 is still above the curve being just that level. Sure pre Stam levels can take getting use to if you have become comfortable to the End flowing like water.Except that lost levels are going to HURT if there's anything more than a five level difference. :P
But it's not like anyone plans to power rush to 50.... it is just having an alt sitting idle for to long can make someone less willing to pull it out again. Characters tend to have a sort of momentum and to much down time can derail it. -
We just need to OP to return and get the last two guys built and get this thing started
