As a suggestion, to make it a homage and more likely to survive if you're deadset on it perhaps you could change it the Mobayishi Karu. Star Trek fans will still get the reference and it's not quite so egregious.
Whether a GM would see it that way is another matter, I can't read their minds. I just know I see Hulk and Wolverine names genericed regardless of the costume, and costume replicas (if petitioned) regardless of name reset to default. They are very strict and conservative when it comes to anything legal. -

If it ever was copyrighted to begin with, it's not any more.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well actually, if you go to the U.S.Copyright Office search page: http://www.copyright.gov/records/
you'll see that the Kobayashi Maru story title is copyrighted by CBS Studios Inc.
I'd recommend that you remove or retitle this story-arc before it gets reported and you lose that slot to a locked mission.
[/ QUOTE ]
I wouldn't worry about it too much. The dev's are big enough nerds to appreciate the reference, and I seriously doubt any CBS employees are combing this game for their precious copyrights.
[/ QUOTE ]
If I run across a copyright/trademark violation I report it. I've reported for content once, for an arc that was full of DC and Marvel characters and actually had "Marvel" in the title. The game doesn't need another lawsuit.
If you don't want to change it, then don't, but don't be surprised or say you weren't warned when the arc is pulled. Someone is eventually going to report it. The more the arc is played, the more likely that is to happen.
Edit/PS: I'm a Trekkie and nerd. I would probably enjoy the arc. If you wrote something like this for my pen and paper RPG group it would be a blast, however in this game environment you're publishing and making this a permanent part of a game that is earning revenue. That's a totally different proposition for liability reasons. -
You may wish to rename this arc before you get reported for content and have it banned for Copyright violation.
-
If I want to do anything with any of my old characters time has to have passed. I can work with one year.
-
I just don't want my characters stuck in time-stasis since the last time I wrote.
Game events don't have to be played out in perfect time order if we don't want them to be; the 2nd Rikti invasion, Midnight Squad and Cimerora, Ouroboros and the Menders, etc could happen tomorrow and it be "new" if that's the group consensus.
Just don't leave me writing a week from where I left off. -
Thanks for the OOC thread! It was past time, I almost started it too.
I've bumped Artemis 4 years up, otherwise she'd still be 14 or 15. Helen would still be pregnant. Michael would be in the Praetorian world: Council Empire (he stayed there 3 years). Etc. No time fast forward and I'm shackled if I want to do anything with these characters, I'd like them to match where they are in game.
I'm even considering Helen as a minor character for PCU as an associate professor (IE: part time, one or two classes). If I wrote in Whitmoore it would be Maggie Riley and maybe Michael since the two are so closely associated in my mind.
Time bump FTW. Post 2nd Rikti Invasion! That's my vote. -
I am glad when someone points out a spelling error in my arc, I thank them for it. I'll edit it as many times as necessary to get it right.
If there are only a few minor errors in an arc I won't down rate it, obviously the person took the time to work on it and just overlooked something. No big deal.
On the other hand, if it looks like a 10 year old wrote it without a spell check (even if one did) I will. Daddy should help him use spell check. When someone publishes, they are saying "This is ready to be played and is good." If it isn't, regardless of the reason, it should be rated accordingly. The MA is there for players to publish... and for other players to find arcs they like. The ratings are a reference, not a feel good "everyone passes" system. -
Next raid is Wed 5/20 at 9pm Eastern (only night I have free that week).
-
I have one published arc for the community with only minor references to actual characters (something to make Liberty players smile).
I'm using private arcs for story telling - the ability to take heroes to the Rogue Isles and fight our archnemesis, investigate certain villains, fight our opposite number VG, for the villains to fight the SG.
Ultimately, once the crash bugs stabilize for me I will be writing full-blown private arcs for my SG. I can't publish them, three slots isn't many and I already have plans for the last two. -
Nuclear in 90 (The Fusionette Task Force) is a nice arc for lowbies/low teens. It's well written and uses the Hellions as villains.
Bring a team, though I suppose you could solo it exemping. I and a friend exemped from 50 to do it.
(Cheap Plug: Mine will do for nearly any character after either SOs, Stamina, or a mez protection power. It can be soloed on a level 1 scrapper or a well slotted emp defender with a few attacks (tested both), but I'd reccommend the Hellion and Skull arcs to hit the teens first. Waiting until the 20s would be better. Really, please, mine can be fun. SKs to 30 and 41 for missions, no AV/EBs.) -
I've played several that I've really enjoyed. I keep a written list and add to it whenever I find a gem so I can share it with my friends.
I think some of the criticism of DC arc is the result of jealousy. I know I am frustrated by the shortage of play of my arc, despite all my hard work. Nearly of the feedback I have gotten has been very positive, the worst of it said that the story was good but didn't make sense (their reason why actually didn't make sense). Despite that, I've been hit with enough zero stars (with no feedback) to knock me down to a four star rating and far, far down the page list. My arc will never be DC and I know it. -
MA missions are fun, for many reasons:<ul type="square">[*]The variety of endless content[*]Unpredictability of custom mobs[*]Contact/story is ungated and available to any character, just pick from the list[*]The synopsis tells you (with the exception of AV/EBs) what you're doing ahead of time: Defeats, patrols, hostage rescue, etc.[*]The ability to tell your own stories[*]Sidekicking/Exemplaring teams of disparate levels[*]Buy the rare/uncommon salvage you need
So whoopeedoo, the farmers are (mostly) gone and the population in the MA buildings is less; cry doom. This is what I'm seeing:
<ul type="square">[*]Normal players are still playing MA, and in many cases have returned after being turned off and away by all the farming and farm spam. [*]I'm seeing people actually play my arc because they can find it. And people like it. [*]Farming is still going on to a much lesser degree. It's quieter, moved to private channels and SGs, but it's still there. The farmers just use smaller maps or reset... like in the regular game.
-

HIRE THIS WOMAN!
You have only to watch her videos to know she's qualified and that she'll be fabulous at creating videos that actually make people want to play this game.
If I wasn't already playing this game and watched History in the Making (5th Anniversary Commemorative Video) I would have dropped what I was doing, downloaded the game, and stayed up all night trying it. Then I would have bought it the next day.
By comparison the Captain Amazing videos made me wonder what game they were talking about. Goofy camp doesn't make gamers want to play, game play does. Goofy camp appeals to very little roleplayers, story does. Even the I'm a Hero - I'm a Villain videow, while cute, didn't sell the game. Videos should sell the game. Samuraiko delivers the goods.
Hire this woman. -
Note to self: When hiring an assassin with a sense of humor, do not use euphemisms. Clear communication is key.
Thanks, Bill. That was precious. -

QFT.
1500 tickets possible per mission is still a lot, and as a time investment if you're 'not-farming' you can still rake in a lot of recipes and salvage (which you get to choose) purchases, more than you would be able to get through normal missions. The only thing you won't be getting are purple recipes.
If it's a challenge map, make the map any size but large, IE: not a farm.
As far as I can tell, the only ones screaming are the farmers. Anyone who is whining about this change and says "I'm not a farmer" is lying as far as I'm concerned.
Edit/PS: I'm not anti-farming, but the Devs have made their stance on this clear. Take the farming back to Taskforces, PI and Grandville. -
A way to get around this is to use the custom critter creator and replicate as close as you can the villain groups you intend to use. The only difficulty would be file size, if you don't make too many customs per villain group (perhaps 1 minion, 1 lt, 1 boss) you should be able to do it.
-
I'll bite:
This is the worst thing the devs have done since ED.
Instead of wasting their time on this, the devs should get off their lazy butts and finally fix Costume parts clipping.
And hey, where the hell is my moon zone???
This game is so phail; they should make it more like Hello Kitty Island Adventure.
This game is SOOO going down; everyone I know is leaving for Hello Kitty Island Adventure.
I'm so fed up with the game, I just put another pin in my Moderator08 voodoo doll.
Everyone loves Moderator08, that's how ridiculous this is. -
I think it is a hoax.
I've never gotten any of the spoof emails that were going around a few months ago. I didn't get this one either. My email address is not listed on my forum profile.
There is nothing on the official website.
Hoax. Intended to discredit the game and cause strife and drive people to play Champions. -
I read everything, and I wrote my MA arc for the same type of player.

I don't think the problem is Lesbian Hellions.
I think the problem is the kidnapping, forced sexual conversion, and sexual exploitation. Reverse it - would it be okay if it was Male Heterosexual Hellions kidnapping female heroes for similar purposes? I don't think so.
If this was an arc about Lesbian Hellions robbing banks I don't think there would be an issue. Homosexuality and Transgender discrimination is wrong, NC Soft has supported this community in the past. I believe they will do so in the future.
I realize there is some writing in canon that skirts the edges, but it does just that... skirts the edges, it doesn't dance blatantly in a tutu.
Edit: IMO, a revision of these particular items, but not the lesbian theme, and it should be fine. If it isn't, then you have an argument. -

To start the fight, worst case scenario is you're facing 3 shuriken users, and they all hit. With the DOT, this is 657 damage, with 477 more coming in 9.07 seconds, and 180 points of DOT over the next 5 seconds after the second hit, if you keep them at range. This is a total of 1314 damage in 15.14 seconds from engagement to the finish of the DOT.
However, this is with all the attacks hitting.
On average, with the 50% minion hitrate, you will suffer half that much, clocking in at 657. You have a 1/64 chance of being hit with ALL of the damage. However, since a player fights many spawns of 3 minions when soloing, this is an eventuality they will have to cope with in actual play.
It looks to me like they hit the mark you guys seem to be talking about with throwing knives, which never eclipse any similar 8.00 second recharge attack.
Fire Blast is a bit of a fluke, being the only 4 second recharge attack, but showing a lot of power relative to it's peers despite the shorter recharge.
The ranged powers in the Lightning Bolt etc. tier all match the damage of a typical 8 second recharge melee attack: Chop, Pulverize. Oddly, Heavy Stone Fist clocks in with higher damage, and a faster animation. Gloom is merely seeing it's "I'm all DOT" bonus above and beyond the other "8 second" ranged attacks.
Then we have Shurikens. Clocking in at 25% more damage than the "normal" 8 second recharge attacks, but sharing Throwing Knives' fast animation. I see this power being a real deal breaker, and as demonstrated above, is statistically eventually going to kill undefended squishies in 2 volleys, with the first volley having a not insignifigant 1/8 chance of lopping off as much or more than 1/2 their health. Bear in mind that that analysis ignored the possibility of the NPC's in question closing to melee and using other attacks, or using other ranged attacks from a secondary powerset, both of which would result in a much faster kill time than the 15 seconds quoted above.

What about Aim and Build Up? Wouldn't that make this even more lethal?
