But it seems difficult to sustain any ideas beyond that and so with what you have at the moment, which appears to be a long stream of the same attack only ever so slightly different, it is in high danger of becoming boring.

    [/ QUOTE ]

...a Blaster's primary is mainly damage. An attack in the set will be slightly different from the last one, different damage, different effects.

    That's how powersets go.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No it isn't. Ice Blast has two holds. Electric Blast has a hold and PBAoE end drain. Sonic has a cone knockback and a hold. And that's just what I can think of off the top of my head. Your powers are essentially exactly the same thing with just a different name and level of damage.
  2. Then read the whole paragraph that sentence is part of. I'll quote it for you:

    [ QUOTE ]
Additionally, all of the wind effects we have in the storm set, are inifintely more varied and interesting than the proposed wind only set that you've put together. As Raven said, playing that set from 1 to 50 would get very boring, very quickly

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Emphasis mine
  3. [ QUOTE ]
Btw, SteelRat, I thought picking up on Gale would be a good thing? Turning an underused power into a powerset, so it would be more used. And they could buff Gale as well, make both of 'em popular.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Interesting logic. Take something that people don't like and make an entire set out of it. Also buff a tier 1 power and possibly put it out of balance to justify the introduction of that set. Not going to happen.

    [ QUOTE ]
Also, while sonic has the same affects as wind, they're different things. End of.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They might well be different things, but they cover the same basic concept. It's the same argument that's used when ever water based powers are suggested. There is no water blast set, because it'd likely be too similar to what we already have in ice.

Additionally, all of the wind effects we have in the storm set, are inifintely more varied and interesting than the proposed wind only set that you've put together. As Raven said, playing that set from 1 to 50 would get very boring, very quickly.

Sonic Attack fits an Air Blast set nicely enough already, no? And this is just dull compared to that, sorry.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Sonic = sound.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sounds are essentially just waves of air pressure, so it is perfectly reasonable to say that in sonic blast, we already have an "air blast" set.

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
It's not the names that are boring. It's the powers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Explain.

    [/ QUOTE ]

"Gale" is a power that a lot of storm defenders skip, because the heal (02 boost) is more useful, and other than a cone knockback it doesn't really do anything that other powers don't do better later on. A whole SET of variations on a Gale theme, probably wouldn't, therefore be terribly popular; particurlarly as all of those "desired" effects are covered in the storm summoning set anyway.

(If we ever get colour customisation, the Radiation Emission set in brown would cover all your flatulent hero needs, I feel )

Thematically, open PvP suits quite well, actually.

[/ QUOTE ]But would turn places like Atlas Park into a gankfest. Open Free-for-all PvP (Hero vs Hero/Hero vs Villain) is all very well in theory but it wouldn't work in practice.
Also Paragon City heroes are supposed to be more regulated than the Marvel and DC types. So thematically for CoX it wouldn't work. If they've got a grudge then they can take it to the Arena rather than trash a city block because someone stood on someone's toe. Something similar although more villainous in motivation could well apply in the Rougue Isles.
Either way it's better if non-arena PvP is restricted to Blue vs Red.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    (emphasis mine)

Didn't say whether open PvP was a good idea or not, just that using the argument "heroes never fight anywhere" was flawed because of countless examples in comics, which is what this game is based on. I agree that the game as it stands could not cope with open world PvP simply because of the levelling system and that is a far more valid reason for not including it than a thematic one, imo.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
Even then, it doesnt suit the theme of this game, heroes dont fight eachother 'anywhere'. So only a world where villians and heroes are at the same time would 'suit' it, but merely between those 2, never at 1 side alone.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I disagree. Comics are rife with "vs" stories of heroes fighting each other. Spider-Man, for example has fought against the Human Torch, DareDevil, The Hulk, and Superman and that's just what I can remember off the top of my head. Thematically, open PvP suits quite well, actually.

On topic.. Where does Massively get its info from? Has there been some hint from Posi et al that there is going to be a CoH2 on the cards rather than a graphics update to the existing engine?

If a player had posted this as a topic on the boards I think it'd be shot down in flames as unlikely and all sorts of requests for source.

    DX10 Support

    [/ QUOTE ]

CoX is an OpenGL game, so DX10 support would really be a total waste of time.

    I knew that

    12 Days of CoH

Not sure if this has been done before (I have a feeling it has, but my search-fu is weak)

How about a CoH themed 12 days of Christmas..

On the 12th Login of my Subs, NCSoft sent to meeeee

    12 trolls a raving,
    11 scrappers critting
    10 defenders buffing
    9 tanks a taunting
    8 controllers holding
    7 kins a farming
    6 brutes a smashing
    5 vet rewaaarrrddsss....
    4 blind invites
    3 cossie comps
    2 disconnects

and a noob who thinks he's fuuuuu neeeeeee

  11. I'd like development of existing story lines that got started but seem to have been forgotten..

The Moon Launcher in Cap / Steel
    The "Coming Storm"
The work on the war walls in Steel

    Other than that:

DX10 Support and a graphics update
Not only customisable power colours, but the ability to choose from a pool of animations that fire them, based on their activation time and draw source.
Vehicles / Mounts for natural origin characters (not gonna happen, but no harm in asking )
Serverless log in a la EvE (ditto)

    Edit:

In 2009 I'd like my foot to be no where near my mouth when I post in the official forums...

    Which Server?

    I don't really have a "main".

I have 3 50's on Defiant (Tiger-Slash, Luminesque and Amazon Thunder), which were my first 3. All my other characters (with the exception of a lvl 46 Tank, Man-Tiger and a lvl 21 Stormie, Tempeste) are on Union, and that tends to be my server of choice these days.

One thing that did concern me though was at 12.30 Sunday afternoon, I did a search for heroes between lvls 31 and 45 on Union and got a list of 50. That list wasn't truncated.

    [/ QUOTE ]

12:30 on Sunday afternoon, the last Sunday before Christmas. The last day a LOT of people have to get Christmas shopping done. Riiiiight...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Pfft.. Christmas Eve is the last day you get your last minute shopping done. Any earlier just isn't trying hard enough

    Wooo! Postcount +1

    Sorry, couldn't resist!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just out of interest, why couldn't you, and what was the point?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Possibly to illustrate the only real point of "Merge teh Servers" threads like this one?

how does a merging server mean a game dieing look at eve online one bloody server

    [/ QUOTE ]
But it always has been, they didn't merge anything to become one server.

[/ QUOTE ]i know it has...i can't really see the fuss about going down a server really as it been show game can do it. to me i can't see it as a game dieing really i really look at it like one less server to look after less sorting things out.

but i like pears, some people hate them you can't please everyone one

    [/ QUOTE ]

On the contrary, whereas EvE started off with one server, games that have started with more than one server then had servers merged have usually gone down the pan shortly afterwards. Auto Assault being a prime example.

One thing that did concern me though was at 12.30 Sunday afternoon, I did a search for heroes between lvls 31 and 45 on Union and got a list of 50. That list wasn't truncated.
  16. Oh I'm loving these ideas.

One other thing I did think of as an addition to the half pipe comes from the frostie mission too. In the room where the frostie half pipe is, is a gap and then a ledge just beyond it. A well timed jump at the end of it means that you can get on to that ledge fairly easily. What about length and height ledges to aim for with a badge for successfully reaching each one without the use of a travel power or external buff? Maybe this would be better as an out an out "Ski Jump" feature rather than something added to the half pipe?
  17. Rarely bother with any of the 1-5 arcs red side. Plenty of street hunting goodness to be had, and particularly if you're a brute or domi, the groups are close enough to keep your fury / domination bar fairly high meaning you can chop through them fairly quickly. Rolled a lec / shield brute last night at about 9pm. By 9.30 I was level 6.
  18. If I understand this correctly, I think there's a difference between the OPs original "secret identity" idea of having an "off line NPC presence", and the oft suggested "on line plain clothes" addition to the game that this discussion seems to have veered towards.

I do agree that there is little point in the latter for all of the reasons mentioned, but I do like the idea of the former, because thematically, it does fit in rather nicely with the whole "Day Jobs" feature that has been recently implemented.

Of course the big problem would be over crowding in certain areas, as someone has already mentioned.

    /signed for the idea
    /unsigned for practical application
  19. Seeing as it's been a while since this thread has seen any activity, I don't know whether people are still accepting commissions or not?

Hoping that they are, there's a couple I wonder if anyone would fancy a crack at.

One of my tanks, Viking Furnace with his foot on a defeated CoT Ruin Mage, raising his axe and shouting his triumph would be superb if anyone fancies a shot?

Also Sigma Suit and Illuzi-One. Sigma, standing there arms crossed looking resolute; Illuzi standing to his side, arm draped across his shoulder with an mischevious knowing look, in the way only comic girlies seem to master.

If you fancy a crack at these and want any more details or character bios to get an idea of their characters, chuck me a PM
  20. No I wouldn't, and I really don't see the point. I pay my subs to play the game - and that includes levelling new characters. Why would I pay my subs so someone else could play it for me?
  21. happened to me and the lvl 18 team i was running. 2 full team dc's in the space of 20 minutes. Think someone forgot to feed the union hamsters on friday night before the weekend :s
  22. After doing a couple of frostie mishes this morning, how about having a large, flat, frozen lake for skating around on and an ice "half pipe" on the Pocket D Ski Slopes No rewards, or incentive other than it being a bit of fun.
  23. Hover is also a very cheap knockback protection power if you can't afford the IOs, or the end hog of acrobatics. I tend to run 2 flight SOs in Swift, Hover and Fly and that's usually enough to keep me up with the runnersm and still give me a good enough travel speed.
  24. The irony is, spade, is that none of my post was directed at the OP. The first paragraph explains why I don't read forums to decide whether or not I will play a game before I buy it. The second one gives an example from the AoC forums as to why this is so, and the third one explains why people who are jumped on, are jumped on for the most part (at least in my experience / opinion)

My mistake came from my second post when I accused Phantoms of coming across as a irrational doom monger, when in actual fact he explained why he thought i13 did nothing to improve CoH's apparent falling numbers. And for that I have apologised.
