  1. I would also like this, a lot. The draped mantle over the shoulder type cape is a great design. But most of my characters who would use it just can't use the tall collar. I think this could be an easy implementation, comparatively...

  2. Spider-Man: Street Justice/Super Reflexes Stalker. He usually surprises his enemies with a sneak attack, and while he can avoid hits and on some occasions take them, he isn't that great at taking damage (A hit or two from Rhino, for example, would put spidey into a fleeing position). He generally uses stealth, tactics, and movement to outmaneuver and outwit his foes. Generally not something a tanker does.

Superman: SS/Inv Tank with no crashes, constant damage resistance cap, softcapped defenses, the Body Mastery pool for laser blasts, and perma-all-powers and triple-stacked rage. He's the superhero of superheroes.

The Hulk: SS/Inv Brute with an Empath hidden in his purple pants. Yes. They can stretch to fit his giant form without ripping at the waistband, he can hide a terrified kidnapped empath in there.

The Flash: Speedster AT. There really is no AT which appropriately encompasses what a Speedster like the Flash can do. He has ranged attacks in thrown objects, he has control effects through whirlwinds, he has melee attacks by running around at massive speeds and beating the crap out of someone at whatever speed he can run. He can punch a thousand times in a second and dodge a bullet when the barrel of the gun is pressed against his forehead. There is nothing in the game which encompasses all of these things in equal proportion. The closest we have is Dominators, but he doesn't have the same focus on control and they have no defense.

Batman: Everything/Everything Everything, based on what the comic in question needs. He can be a scrapper or stalker with MA/ or StJ/ or Kat/ and /Nin /SR /Willpower or he can be a Street Justice/Devices character.

Wonder Woman: Bondage/S&M Icon. Really, she's the second string Superman "Now with Boobs!" and without his level of power. I really wish DC would just let her go and bring up a better heroine in her place, but I guess after 7+ decades we're stuck with her as the "Iconic" female hero.

Wolverine: Claws/Regen scrapper. He is the quintessential scrapper.

Jean Grey: Mind/Psi Dom or Fire/Fire anything, depending on the comic

    Cyclops: Nrg/Martial Arts Blaster

Ultimately, it's very difficult to quantify any of the heroes of Marvel or DC "Perfectly" into one of the ATs we have in City of Heroes. Why? Because the ATs are limited by class balance. The supers we all grew up with are not. Batman is, perhaps, the best example of this.

Also: these above classifications are entirely my opinion, feel free to ignore them or laugh, your choice. But don't bother getting mad, 'cause that'll just mess up your day.

  3. Technically, it doesn't break the cottage rule, so long as it follows all previous power change methods.

Sure, new characters won't be able to select Challenge, a power that will no longer be offered. They will be able to select a completely -new- power.

Those who have Challenge will retain it until they choose to respec. Just like Inherent fitness didn't automatically kick in, such as when Conserve Power was replaced with Energize in the Electric Armor set. People who had Conserve Power were able to keep it, indefinitely. Those who wanted Energize could simply respec into the new power.

Challenge does not suddenly placate enemies. Challenge is still Challenge. New players will not be able to select Challenge in the same way they can no longer select the Fitness Power Pool.

  4. I'm on City. On Virtue. Making a blaster.

But for some reason I can't -buy- the Water Blast set. No SKU.

Help Obi-Devs-Paragoni: You're my only hope!

  5. I want a Super Strength Judgement.

Some sort of ground-pound cone or PBAoE. Something big and violent for characters that don't -have- lightning, fire, cold, and so forth as powers but who also shouldn't be making superfast jump-kicks around an area.

I don't know what I was thinking. Clearly we should all be roaming the streets administering pepper spray for justice and YouTube likes. To do any less would be inhumane and civically irresponsible.

    Elvis wept.
Guy goes out with a flashlight in a T-Shirt and jeans. Patrolling the streets, shining his flashlight down dark alleyways, and finds a fight. He rushes in and breaks it up. Illegal? The man was obviously looking for trouble to stop it from happening. How about if he's wearing a blue uniform and a badge? Still illegal?

It shouldn't be illegal for anyone to use non-lethal force to stop violence. And, oh wait! It isn't. Citizen's arrests are legal.

Further, you seem to want him to just pass it off to the cops. And that's fine. I completely understand wanting the Cops involved. People in this thread have said he should go to training, get his badge, and do it "Legally". But he's already doing it legally and thanks to budget cuts they wouldn't be able to hire him, anyway.

Screw that. Here is a man willing to do the job of a Police Officer without the reimbursement, without the support, without the technology, and without the safety of a badge. He's amazing. And discouraging him from doing something amazing is ridiculous. The man knows the risks he's taking. He knows he could get shot or killed trying to help someone.

But between now and that day, the day when he gets himself shot, how many people will he help? How many people will be able to say "Thank you for not walking past, for not waiting until the cops came to the murder scene"?

Apparently n+1 than if most people saw the crime.

  7. Hey, folks. It was 361 days since I last created a suggestion thread for City of Heroes. I'm debating whether I should start up again, or not. So I'm going to ask your opinions.

I'm sure some of you remember my various ideas. And my general focus on powerset and archetype suggestions. For those of you who aren't familiar, here are a few of my "Better" suggestions.

    Devouring Earth Praetorian Epic Archetype

Travel Power ATs (This one might get a revamp with some of the new powers in the travel pools!)

    Power Alteration

    Corruption Blast

    The Leader/Marauder AT

    Rainbow Blast

And, below, is a search of my suggestion threads as they currently stand, most of them having long since been purged, apparently.

    Search!

So. Yes. Tell me what you think. Should I start making suggestions, again, or leave it for the people who stuck around, or just joined?

    -Rachel-
  8. I don't care if you're wearing a superhero costume.

    I don't care if you're wearing a Badge.

    I don't care if you're wearing a T-Shirt and Jeans.

I don't care if you're wearing Vintage clothes and Ironic Glasses.

I don't care if you're dressed like Santa Claus.

    I don't care if you're self-aggrandizing or purely selfless.

I don't care if you get paid or not.

I don't care if you're buck naked and screaming like a lunatic, waving your genitals at the people holding me down to hurt me or worse.

If you save me in that situation, I don't care who you are or what you represent. I don't care if you use a fist, a taser, or pepper spray to subdue the people hurting me. Thank you for saving me in that situation. Thank you for doing the right thing and helping someone in trouble.

Ignore the Captain_Photons. Ignore the Black Zots. Ignore the people who say it's not your business whether I'm beaten, bludgeoned, *****, or murdered. If you can save me, please do. And after that danger is passed we can figure out what to do from that point on, whether it's calling the cops or going to a hospital.

You might even get yourself a sidekick.

Save me. Even if Photon and Zot and Others want you to let them die when they're in trouble: Save Me.

Godspeed and good luck, Phoenix Jones. May your oppressors be exposed as the bumbling fools and out of touch loonies they so obviously are.

    -Rachel-
  9. Ehhhhhh maybe. But it's still nice for me. I'm pretty good with angles!

And the big AoE I'll be getting at 18 will also feel awesome and huge, I'm fairly sure.

Of note, however, What it does and what it feels like it does can be two different things.

    -Rachel-
  10. Oh. Foo. No KB. It's that darn GR Origin Enhancer. Well still! It's a nice power, big wide stunning blow.

    -Rachel-
  11. Oh! You're suggesting -MORE- animations to add to the set. I get it, now!

And, frankly, I'd love it. I'd love to see more animations for -all- the powersets (including the Weapon sets) to increase their "Newness"

But I think we should start with Control and Buff sets, first. They didn't get anything new in the last set of animation upgrades.

    -Rachel-
  12. Eeeeeeehhhh... Kind of...

But Martial Arts definitely has a different Feel to it.

Street Justice is all about the combo juggling, throwing off AoE when you've got 2 or more stacks, and generally being a cross between Superstrength and Martial Arts with a new gimmick.

Martial Arts on the other hand is whatever you want to fire off whenever you want to fire it off. Got a big clump of enemies who are going to move away before you throw off 3 attacks (Like Igneous)? Toss out a Dragon Tail and trip them all for full damage while the Street fighter is building up power for their AoE.

I've got myself a Street Justice/Willpower character that I'm playing out as having Super-strength but not being a punch-only person. With the big room-clearing Sweeping Cross I feel like she's throwing targets around like Ragdolls with enormous power. Sure it's got a kind of silly Shin-Kick as one of it's high-end high-damage powers, but with a person with superstrength knocking someone's legs out with a well placed kick makes more sense.

I dunno, though. I think different players will create different characters with the same set. Martial Arts and Street Justice can be combined into a 3-man team with one person who -clearly- doesn't match up in fighting style with the other two. It allows for some welcome individuality.

And with the option to do a Street Justice Brute, a Martial Arts Kicking Scrapper, and a Martial Arts Punching Stalker, the playstyles are drastic enough to stand apart. Toss in a Super Strength Tank using the original punches and a Super Strength Brute using the new punches and you'll really get a gradient of power and diversity of animations with "Street Justice" bridging the gap.

    But that's just me!

I think that's the end of the thread. You should keep your expansion if you paid for it. If the Incarnate System is part of the Expansion, then so be it. But access to Praetorian Earth? Without question. Requiring a player to pay twice for the same content is flat out ridiculous.

And for those of who you tout the "Nearly" in the first statement it is negated by the word "Including". By putting that specific word into the statement they state that access to it will be retained. I hate that my first post on returning from a year long hiatus had to be about something so ridiculous as this argument. I do hope you all are satisfied.

  14. The problem with a Nemesis System.

And forcing PvP is also a huge no-no.

Sooo... Maybe have the Devs write -actual- Vigilante and Rogue content in the Isles and in Paragon so that after my Rogue hits Rhode Island she can be a Rogue, instead of immediately becoming a hero?Or so my Vigilante can dispense some gritty 1970/80s comics style justice in the Etoille instead of immediately robbing banks and kicking puppies for fun?

While we've seen how the devs can spin familiar figures after what they did for the Arachnos VEATs, "Infected" DE would really expand the Praetorian world from its narrow focus on Cole's city. Plus classic "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"-style paranoia would spice up the city's convoluted politics before players settle into faction roles.

Perhaps this PEAT could even provide the impetus to expand Praetoria past level 20.
I really thought it would be good.

We saw how much the Kheldian background and storyarc expanded the universe, and then in came the Arachnos Soldiers which did -nothing- to expand anything. I'd like to have an epic AT for Praetoria which expands the, so far limited, story and background.

  16. I definitely agree with Emmert on this one.

When you're creating a new game you've got great games to compete against, with massive amounts of constant revenue that you just don't have, yet, and may never get. It's up to you to drag players from those other games where they've got friends and characters at high levels doing the end game content.

So having the Free to Play with Subscription Option and In Game Store method gives players the ability to come over, and even if they never drop a single penny into your pocket, they add to the population of the game, making it easier to team and find friends, making the game more attractive on a social level.

If you've got good, inventive, and interesting content you're going to lock in a lot of those players who may opt to finally leave the game they've been playing for years, potentially bringing their playgroups and guilds along with them to "At Least Try It"

So yes. A Free to Play with Subscription Option and in-game store is a fantastic way to handle a new game, or a game which is looking for new players.

If there is a Steampunk Booster pack I'll be buying it the moment it hits the store... But please note I said "May Never" rather than "Will never"

It's kinda sad to me that there's a "Greater than 0%" chance, rather than a "Greater than 80%" chance. >.>

Granted, there are games out there which sell themselves as being harsh, ruthless and full of developer-encouraged griefing. Granted, there are those, but I don't want THIS game - this being City of Heroes - to be among them.
Can't get behind you on THAT one, Sam.

Option A: No Tiered Playing, Low-ish Population

Option B: Tiered Playing, Higher Population made up of people who can make themselves higher tier if they're willing to, or can enjoy the game without it.

I'll take a larger population, any day. Especially when some members are buying EVERYTHING as it comes out instead of paying a subscription fee. Also note that F2P games have a much higher turnout of content and goods, generally speaking. They needs more and more and more to sell to survive.

On Linkedin he went from Senior VFX Animator at Cryptic Studios to Senior Animator/VFX Lead at Paragon Studios, and is currently Senior Animator at Cryptic Studios.

There is a Linkedin bug that will sometimes put you back a square when you have no employment, but that would list him as the Senior VFX Animator at Cryptic Studios, instead of Senior Animator at Cryptic Studios.

So with the title-change comes assurance that it is his current position, rather than the bug.

Curious though, typically if someone worked on a project, and they wind the project up and all went well, they don't typically lay people off, they put them to work somewhere else because they have done a good job. From all accounts, GR was better than a good job. So why layoffs...........and why BABs if he was a lead designer? Was it posted somewhere about him being layed off?
It's not terribly uncommon to wind up training your replacement, Bull. And Chris Bruce is working with Cryptic Studios, now. So it's likely as not that he had the offer, trained his replacement, saw them through the update, and headed off to a different (Better?) paycheck.

And a Free To Play game of City of Heroes' magnitude would almost certainly have 2 pay schedules. Either you pay the standard $14.99 a month and get free access to everything that you already do, with no access to "Booster Packs" or special items or equipment which are basically short duration buffs that you purchase from a store without paying for it, separately. OR You can be a Free to Play player with access only to a certain number of character and costume slots. You'd also wind up with limited access to some current and future "Adventure Packs". For example: a limit on how many Task Forces you can run in a day, or whether or not you can enter Cimerora/Oroborous/Architect missions.

Please note that I don't know that any of these things are imminent, or how they would be implemented. I'm just making an educated guess based on the current economic and industry methodology.

    -Rachel-
  22. To get back onto the original topic.

If CoH goes F2P I don't imagine much at all will change. So long as players who pay their $15 a month aren't "Shorted" access to new content all the F2P changeover would mean is more players running around.

And that's hardly a bad thing.

Maybe? It could really go either way. You could be infected by a scientifically engineered mold, or grown from a plant or a stone or a swarm of bugs with powers inherent to what is, for you, your natural form.

Though I could see it go either, or both, ways. Or even be a Mutant Origin, since you're a permutation of the original method of infection.
