  1. Well, I moved 6 of my biggest guys from Triumph to Virtue. No much story here other than being forced to rename a character. It hurt me a lot to rename Starsman, but the choice was a bit natural (for me) and I renamed him Starsman Prime.

Re-rolling the name in Triumph to keep it for myself, though. I'm greedy like that.

I guess here is a story: I used to be part of Global Heroics in Triumph a long long time ago. Got kicked due to inactivity, not to fit more players but to fit more alts. The character requirements for GH, though, meant that my character now was out of place (naming convention was Ms/Mr Countryname) for her concept so I retired her until I was able to justify renaming costs. With this, I just moved and renamed as the name was already also taken. That character may see resurrection and run the rest of her way to level 50 now (stuck at 47.)

My current group already has a Virtue branch so I'm just consolidating all my active characters there.

I used up all my 2 free Virtue slots and my 4 remaining vet reward slots. I still have more characters I will move but can't move any more for 6 more days so I will be holding on that for a week.

Oh, and yesterday was my birthday, I think the devs knew!
  2. I would love to see a list of the entries myself.
  3. The worst thing here is not that they wont let you transfer from euro to us servers...

The worst thing here is not the obvious impending doom this foreshadows...

No... the worst here is that we can't copy our beta level bumped characters to the live servers!!!

In all seriousness: bye bye Triumph, hello Virtue!!!

And if anything, to make it worthwhile you would probably sideline one of the other ST attacks. I'd rather see TF get a faster animation than that. War Mace was lacking in the ST attacks and damage department, so the change made sense there... not sure the case is the same for EM.
The issue is about intention. Energy Melee is definitively designed to be a single target powerhouse and a stunning machine. It pays for these things with very low AoE damage.

Dark Melee was designed with similar intention: loads of utility and single target damage. It's ST damage was lacking though so they tweaked the set and turned it's self heal (that did low damage) into a full attack that still self heals. This made wonders for the set's intention of ST damage.

I don't think the issue is about sidelining any power, but instead making a set that has a better maximum performance at what it was designed to, and for it to be more firendly to more users. Users that dislike high recharge/slow casting attacks would have a very decent attack chain with Barrage/Energy Punch/BoneSmasher/Stun (take out one of those if you go for a high recharge build.)

    Quote:
And people do forget the usefulness of stuns. I find it useful to use Cobra Strike and then Eagle's Claw on my Scrapper when I'm facing a tough boss, and it would work to do what with Stun + TF if the animation was on par with KO Blow or Eagle's Claw.
Note that the "clobber treatment" means that the power gets 16s recharge, damage increase and maybe a decrease on the duration of the stun. If you want you can still slot it for stun and have a reliable stun and not a very powerful attack.

I particularly would hate to see a change for my Blaster's stun... he uses that and Beanbag to keep a boss out of the fight and not taking out half his health or more in one hit.
It's very unlikely any changes to Melee AT Stuns would ever propagate to Blasters version. Energy Mastery is already the most popular blaster secondary as it is.

And it would be a mayor change to the pace and feel of the set. Increasing damage to 1.2 (the proper damage it should do now based on radius and recharge, right now it does 1.0) is a subtle change that does not alter pace, yet it gives the set 20% more AoE power.

It is true that the nerf changed the phase already, but that was one change long ago. Since many players have started new characters and such a phase change has no guarantee of pleasing the old ST damage lovers that quit the set while it has a potential of upsetting anyone that uses Whirlwind as an aggro management tool. Heck, quite a few doms complained with damage/recharge increases on their AoEs during the revamps.

I think the stun/whirling approach are the best way to go. All around it just encourages some to respec into stun but it does not mess too much with people that already use it to... stun.

I didn't say "like" I say it has a place in that AT. Stalkers were designed to be much squishier than other Melee ATs and meant to rely on disabilitation tools (Placate) to boost that survivability. I don't mean that I would oppose Stun or Cobra Strike being given a buff on Stalkers, but I do see the use within the design of the AT.

As an Energy Aura brute (pre Energy Drain buff, have not played much post buff) i was so squishy I took Stun just for survivability. I would use a Total Focus - Stun combo on any boss that had stun protection before TF lost it's mag 4 stun, after that I used it on any boss all the time. Did a huge difference to the squishy brute and I'm sure it would make a huge difference to stalkers too.

    Quote:
If stun did get the clobber treatment, I'd be very annoyed if stalkers got the shaft. They rarely enough can put out as nice a chain as other ATs because AS and placate taking up attack space (and slots).
Remember you lost Taunt for Placate and Whirling Hands for AS, your ST chain is as bad as any other EM user. That's my deal, though. Ranged sets get 9 powers to play with, one of them MAY be Aim and the Tier 9 may be a monstrous AoE (likely with monstrous penalties)

Melee sets, though, have 1 taunt, never miss a build up, and end with 7 powers to AoE and ST. Add a thing like stun and you cut budget to 6 powers. Given that EM has 2 ST powers recharging at 20 seconds that means it has just 4 powers to make an attack chain out off. But one of them is AS/Whirling so that ends with just 3 powers to make an attack chain out off.

Yes, stalkers suffer off this just as bad as any other AT, but as noted, they just happen to fit Stun within the AT's design and intent (not saying it's what everyone may like nor that it justifies the set as is)

One opportunity I wish they took eventually is to redefine standards. If every scrapper/tanker/brute melee set is going to have Challenge/taunt, just make the thing inherent and then give the set a new tool in it's place.

The same applies for stalker Placate and Hide, in my opinion. Would give enough room to tweak lacking power sets and give utility to sets that are "fine" damage wise.

I really prefere to have every power in a set make me go "OMG! I can't drop this! But I need this pool power! What do I do!?"
Castle has stated similar preference in the past. Every new set that is designed seems to be made so that no power is a brainless skipper. Why shields ended having things like -def protection in grant cover, power most thought to brainlessly skip at first due to it lacking any personal protection.
  9. I forgot something I posted before, way way before and should be noted here too: there is one more thing I would change on EM besides tweaking Whirling Hands to conform to the damage formula:

Give Stun the Clobber treatment. This means lowering recharge to 16 seconds and upping damage to 2.92 scale. Result is an attack that does a bit less DPS than the old Energy Punch but is up way less often. My basic calculator also says this would make EM "tie up" in single target DPS with Stone Melee.

That brings another note: I think powers like Stun have no place in melee sets. At least not for scrappers, brutes or tankers (stalkers are a different issue.) This means I'd give the same treatment to Martial Art's Cobra Strike.

    Quote:
Nay-sayers can talk about the numbers all they want, but until they've played through all nine tiers of Energy Melee, I don't feel like they have any understanding of the real situation.
For the record, I run an energy melee/energy aura brute. My only brute (not very fond of the AT myself) but I have experienced all energy melee attacks. My biggest grudges right now lie with Stun (power anyone but a stalker would say is an obvious skip) and WH.
  10. Although it crossed my mind at the time, I doubt ET was nerfed due to PvP issues. The PvP changes of I13 were definitively forseen by the time ET got nerfed and the changes just made sure that ET remained the same under the PvP changes where all attacks do damage based on animation time instead of recharge.

Just think about it a bit and you would realize how big of a nerf ET would had received with a 1 second cast time in the current PvP.

As for farming, at least high level, all you have to do is take the right epic pool.

At the time this all happened, Starsman was active on a project of putting up charts showing comparisons of the various powersets' attack chains. Initially, he showed EM still doing quite well after the ET change, down from a serious lead over its peers in single-target DPS.

Then he realized he was counting the self damage as part of its DPA.

As I recall, as soon as he realized this, he immediately pointed out that he felt that the change was too severe and that something else needed to be done to help compensate. As I recall, this included the improvement to Barrage.
Actually, I noted that the biggest nerf to the set was the Energy Punch nerf that almost no one noticed. When it comes up to DPS, the power was extremely fast and low recharge meaning it was critical to generating DPS. Don't take me wrong, the ET nerf hurt, but only few high recharge builds got to truthfully feel the hurt of that nerf.

The barrage change did almost nothing as my calculator still skipped Barrage due to low DPAS.

I also don't think the Energy Punch nerf was intentional, just part of the animation rooting standardization that came with the revision of all animations for the creation of Shields.

I do think the ST DPS of EM is a bit too low for the low amount of AoE damage it possesses. It's hard to get an improvement in ST DPS, though so I would go the other way and just note that Whirling is doing less damage than the AoE formula denotes it should do, therefore it should either have it's radius or damage increased.

I am not sure what babs is saying but yea, these two statements are true. What Posi has been fixing is exploitability. Now, do note that the current level of XP granted by custom critters is not final, things will change but had to be pushed as they are due to deadlines and last minute exploit discoveries.

I personally liked a suggestion by... forgot who... on how to make custom critter xp work with a formula similar to Attacks*(1+BuffsAndSupport).

That would make a cirtter that takes no attacks never give XP but reward more for annoying critters with many utility powers on top of plenty of attacks.

I don't like the idea of micro-transactions especially when it comes to in-game powers. never did, I feel my monthly fee should be enough.

Is there anyway of having a $19.99 version of the booster pack that comes with a month subscription, similar to the mac edition with the Valk set?

That felt like a HUGE deal and I didn't feel like I was just paying for powers.

    Just throwing out a suggestion.
Arguably, your monthly subscription gives you access to a ton of powers and content that put you at a significant advantage to players who don't play a monthly subscription.
I agree with Tokyo. It's not about paying, it's about locking premium balance options to those willing to pay more money. For a long time it was perceived that all boosters and micro-transactions would be cosmetic only and any cool toys would be extremely situational (like a 2 hour recharge tele to mish power or a self-destruct that literally kill you.)

The natural booster ninja run power was so amazing I bought it despite having no interest in any of the pieces. I could had seen a Ninja Sprints (to match the Prestige Sprints) that did nothing sprint didnt but with a neat pose as a perfect gimic that would had no balance impact. Off course, nerfing this now is entirely out of the question after people paid for it.

I guess the only way I could be "fine" is if we end up with additional "inherent travel powers that can't be slotted" just like we ended up getting additional costume change emotes.

Off course, we didn't get alternate access to the super tailor so the line started blurring with the science pack anyways.

  15. Short one:

I know many have different reasons to have two accounts and although I can think on a few reasons, I would like to hear what is your reason to do so. I'm sure some one will have a reason I would had never thought about before. Oh and paying for my kid's account does not count, unless you also use it for some other reason.

Also lets not restrict this one to this game, I know the uses for dual boxing can fluctuate based on game so, if you dual boxed before in another game, please share your stories on that and the reason for it there too. Off course, I do still am interested mainly on the reasons for this game.

I don't dual-account in this game but will my previous dual boxing experience: I used to dual box on Final Fantasy XI with a ranger and a healer. The reason was that as a ranger I was able to fight enemies that could not move. These had still damage that i would not stand if not for a healer, this allowed me to "solo" in that game (contrary to what many thought, duoing in the game is very effective if applied to different encounters.)

    So, how about you?
  16. Ah forgot about this thread, noticed it before my move and didnt had much time to reply. Bumped into it again today.

I realized that I didnt made ever a dedicated AoE guide to back up my AoE calculation. I passingly explained it many times during discussions about my numbers but never actually posted my approach.

Let me explain how I do it in my spreadsheets:

First thing I do is to calculate the area of an AoE, I treat them all as cones (sectors) for simplicity. Won't get into the formula but you can go here if you need it.

For an example, Foot Stomp is a 15ft radius attack, being a full circle and having a 360 degree angle, i get an area of 706.86

Now comes the fun part, figuring out how many critters fit in there. For the most part, the average humanoid critter has a diameter of 3 ft, some are bigger (tarantulas for example.) So we get to calculate the area each average critter covers too.

Before jumping to that though, I also take into assumption that foes tend to leave 3.5 ft in between each-other. The number is really guesswork more than analytic and I keep it as a variable in my spreadsheets I can dynamical modify. Herding situations, for instance, may set this spacer to zero.

So this means that I consider critters to have 6.5 ft diameters, or 3.25 radius, therefore take 33.18 ft in area.

The next is simple: divide the area of my AoE by the area of the critters and we get how many critters the AoE can really hit without too much maneuvering. In the case of foot-stomp, we talking about 21.3 foes.

Ah but wait a minute, there is one complication that requires an exception: PBAoE have ME at the center meaning I take one spot. This spot must be subtracted from the foes that fit, turning our 21.3 into 20.3. This is not an issue with cones, as I have confirmed with the devs in the past that all cones start at the tip of the extended bone (hand) and not at the center of your entity.

So far we got AoEArea / CritterArea - 1 (if PBAoE)

Now I add one last touch: target caps. Foot stomp will simply be lowered to 10 foes since that's the true max. At this point I may multiply damage by "True Max Cap".

This all may seem redundant since I just ended with the foe cap, but that's just because FootStomp is huge. Let's try any whirling attack, that are only 8 ft, and we see a difference. The area of an 8ft radius PBAoE is only 201.06 and that yields 6 before substracting yourself from the equation for a total of just 5 foes hit in average.

Frozen aura is another interesting case as it covers 10 feet. That adds up to 314.16 square feet covered, or enough to feet 9.5 critters. 8.5 once you exclude yourself from the area.

And finally a cone example, one I like due to it being full of Fun: Crowd Control. This one is 8 Ft radius and has a 180 angle, making it's covered area 157.08 square feet. That's enough to hit 4.73 critters in average, being a cone it does not suffer from me being at the center. Blasts don't suffer this either.

Shadow Maul, with it's 45 degrees and 7ft radius will have a hard time hitting anything more than 1 (hits .57)

Off course, you can always maneuver and get a better hit count, but should your goal be to see how much you can cram in you can always set Foe Spacing to zero. At zero foe spacing Shadow Maul can hit 2.7 foes comfortably.

There is an additional artifact but it's mostly an outlier. In the game engine, things will be hit even if there is just a hair-thin inside the area of the AoE. This means that, aligned properly, 3 foe max can easily become 5 hit max (push half of the leftmost to the left, then squeeze half a new one on the right, play the same on other angles and voala, 5 foes,) but its mostly so hard to do intentionally that it's better to not even consider them when you are just benchmarking average performance.

Going back to what I said earlier in the thread, there are tons of heroes who have lost far more and reacted far less rashly.
How big of a "villain" did he turn into, though? Here is a synopsis of what happened in Emeral Twilight (from the wiki site)
In Green Lantern #46, as part of the "Reign of the Supermen" storyline, the extraterrestrial villain Mongul teams up with a Cyborg Superman that had been passing himself off as the real Superman. They use a series of bombs to destroy Hal Jordan's home city of Coast City with the intention of using the area as one of four way-stations for a giant engine that would ultimately transform Earth into the massive spaceship Warworld. Hal Jordan returns to the city to find a massive fortress-engine standing in the ruins of his home and furiously attacks, hearing the voices of those killed crying out in his mind. The voices fall silent when Jordan defeats Mongul in battle. Hal also witnesses the return of Superman, who has defeated the Cyborg elsewhere in the city.

In issue #47, he teamed up with Green Arrow for a completely different mission, and at the end of the issue, his thoughts once again turn to Coast City.

Issue #48 began with Hal in the center of what used to be Coast City, clutching the remains of a doll - the only physical evidence of the seven million people who once lived there. In a moment of pure anguish, Hal uses his power ring to re-create Coast City, down to the people who had previously died, including his father. When his ringÂ’s energy runs out, one of the Guardians of the Universe contacts him via a holographic projection to tell him he is in violation of one of the principal rules of the Green Lantern Corps, which forbids Lanterns from using their rings for personal gain. Enraged, Hal siphons off the energy from the projection and makes his way to the GuardiansÂ’ planet Oa, with the intent of bleeding off all the energy from the Main Power Battery in order to permanently re-create Coast City. Issue #49 saw him going up against various members of the Green Lantern Corps, each of whom fell against Hal, until he got to Oa. Hal steals the rings from each defeated colleague and leaves them for dead. (note by starsman: Hal is way better than to think he left everyone for dead, he just defeated them and left them defeated, think the
"left for dead" part is a bit of an exageration.)

Issue #50 sees Hal battle the renegade former Green Lantern Sinestro on Oa, who had been previously imprisoned in the Main Battery, but released by the Guardians to stop Jordan. Jordan kills Sinestro, as well as his fellow Green Lantern Kilowog. The Guardians, having realized that their cause was lost, had given all their remaining energy to the Guardian named Ganthet, who become the sole Guardian after this energy transference resulted in the death of the rest of them. Hal takes all the energy in the Central Power Battery, and when he emerged from it, he has a new costume and takes the name Parallax.[1]

Now, notice that the only reason he is doing this is not to go conquer the world, it's just to resurrect the city with the power he knows he can have but is not allowed to use. You can be sure, if Batman thought he had the power to resurrect his parents and make that gun not fire in the past, he would stop at nothing to do it. Hal thought he could make them exists again even if only an illusion.

Oh and contrary to your previous statement, among the dead was his own father.

Hal never got much chance to be much of a villain because after this he was jumped by every hero that found about what he did. Had the guardians left him just use the power and be alone in solitude on a faked up Coast City, its very likely he would ha come to his senses after a while.

Again, you compare him to other heroes that have lost more, but few had the power to do anything about it or simply never grew any real attachment to their loss (superman, growing in earth, identifies more with Humans than with Kryptonians.)

After loosing everyone in his planet he spent a huge time in solitude. Note also that he was just another martian (from what I have read on him) not a superior.

Superman was a baby, not enough attachment to Krypton other than desires to discover his roots.

Hal, though... there you got a guy that had "the strongest weapon in the universe" and on top acknowledged by most as "the best green lantern". It's harder to take loss when you are standing in such a high pedestal, it would be impossible to accept you don't have the power to bring them all back. That was the thought process in the issue I remember reading, the point where he snapped and just attempted to amass all the power of the entire corps for himself.

Although the story sucked and was horribly dragged, the Clone Saga was not a bad retcon. Heck, if you go back to the original ending of the spider clone, when spiderman wins he himself was unsure of him being the real one (that sort of makes you ponder why they were fighting to the death, though.) Add that to Sidey surviving more than one falling building made the only "retcon" on that arc (the one that lost surviving) very subtle and credible.

Parallax I disliked. I read the issue where Hal attempted to recreate the entire city with his ring and saw him crack down, it was a good issue and well done. I think you could had brought him back and run the entire resurrection arc without retconing that. It would even give a bit more strength to the character to still carry that burden as real guilt.

All that aside, I home some one Retcons Osborne's hair do... honestly, I have never been able to read a book with that character in it. The character feels like a clown.

Things like a small office, a police station, a dark cave or a lab come to mind as potential lobbies.

I popped my head on this forum by chance and noticed this thread. Got curious and read through it. Am shocked no one has posted this, normally I would not but the case here is very serious.

Unless the guy has moved, you can find full home address in his whois profile.

It seems the address has not changed from the time he registered mmoart.com and the time he registered kindredconcepts.com.

The profiles also list his phone number, both show the same number, but I would not be shocked if some one that has such a bad handle on money would have his number canceled and forced to change upon reactivation. Note his address is in an apartment complex, it's easy to move out of those.
