  1. Heck, I'm wary of putting even EB's into my arcs. Some of the AV's I've seen are ludicrous. Fought an Inv/SS AV, and after about 15 minutes we realized Unstoppable wasn't going to drop, because he hadn't used it yet. Talk about depressing.
  2. Earth/Thermal is the only controller I've ever played into double digits. I still don't have the ST heal, but he's a beast for team support. Earth's controls pretty much neuter spawns, and the Thermal shields toughen up the whole team.

Why not go serverless all together? I dunno, I'm giddy on daytime meds!

'Cause playing computer games without computers is hard. Duh.

Why not reduce the number of servers and increase capacity on the ones that remain?

  4. Call_Me_Awesome's guide for Soft-capping Inv Tanks might have some useful info, although a fair bit of it has already been mentioned. It's for Tankers, but still some good IO set advice and what have you.

And S/L defense is definitely the way to focus. You could cover the psi hole, but for the tiny amount of psi damage mobs in the game, it's not really worth it. And most other damage types get paired off with smashing or lethal.
  5. Would the SuppressCloseFx command get rid of it? I know it's worked on Blazing Aura (for stopping migraines) for a few people, but I don't know if Granite follows the same rules as other toggle armor graphics.
  6. Earth/Thermal Controller + Fire/Fire Blaster

    KABOOM!
  7. Fire/SS is one of the top-tier damage dealing builds for tankers. If damage is your goal, you won't be disappointed.
  8. I have it on good authority that the next 2x XP weekend is in Smarch.

I did a mids build shield/wm and it seemed ...kinda...squishie...55% melee defnese...am I just reading that wrong?

    [/ QUOTE ]

The softcap for defense is 45%. Anything over that only serves to cushion against def debuffs. Soft-capped, a paper bag would be fairly sturdy, so your tanker should be more than capable.

if you have a Dark Armor character...have a bit of fun w/ Oppressive Gloom

    You're one sick individual.
  11. Cold is one of the sets I see in bursts. I was on a team a few weaks ago with two. Since then, not a one.

Psi/* blasters, */DB tankers, Energy/* blasters, and Earth/ controllers all go on the 'see them in bursts, then never again' list.
  12. With the GM/Event announcements it's not so much exciting anymore. When I started playing, I spent almost six months trying to track down Kraken to get the badge. Now, I've fought him a couple times in the last two weeks, and no one ever wants to help.

I like Jurassik though. My Inv/SS tanker getting clobbered by a Buick-on-a-stick is freaking awesome.

Ironically it is an easy game that so many folks are bad at.

    This is so true.

Yes, I have just fallen in love with characters before. The real amusing thing, though, is I have a tendency for characters to fall out of favor in the 30s and I just shelf them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Same, I have about 8 or 9 slots on virtue with 30's that I haven't played in forever. They just stall. I go back to them now and then, and do a mission or two, but can't stick with them.

I have characters that just 'click' and I find myself wondering how they got to the late twenties so fast. My second 50, Lady Fade is like that. I still don't like her name all that much, but of all the costumes I've made, and have seen over the last 4 years, hers is still my favourite. Hell, it might even compete with Spider-Man's classic red and blue for my favourite hero costume period.

I have plenty others, but there is no other character of mine that has stayed so, untouched, as Lady Fade. She has four costumes, yet only ever wears the one she started with. She has never had a planned build. I didn't research her powersets (MA/Regen), I just picked what I wanted, and slotted them the way I felt would best help me out.

I still waiting for another character to inspire me like that, but I don't know if I'll find it in this game. That won't keep me from trying though.
  16. 1. The game is soloable for the most part. There is very little you can't solo. Trial accounts have restrictions on them, which is why you couldn't team with your friend. You also won't get past level 14 on a trial.

    2. If you talk to a 'Field Analyst' in CoH of 'Fateweaver' in CoV, you can change the difficulty of your missions. If you've done this, it would explain why things are so tough. You're probably best to leave it at the default for now.

Your beginning contact should introduce you to a new contact when you've done the missions for him/her. Check the 'Contacts' tab on your nav bar. If not, you can talk to a Detective in King's Row who gives you the police scanner, which gives repeatable missions, or David Wincott in the Hollows, if you're above level 5.
  17. The thing that'll be tough is not, in my mind, the lack of powers, but the lack of slots. The only attack that's ever impressed me unslotted was Shield Charge. If you get to high levels, multi-aspect IO's should help, but man it'll be rough early.

I'll throw in Lady Fade to be paired with Demon Trix.

    Some Images:

Follow through, not just for sports!
    Strike a pose!

Lady Fade (Lvl 50 MA/Regen Scrapper, Virtue) was born on Praetorian Earth, and recruited by Marauder at a young age. A good person by nature, her rise to the rank of Destroyer was predicated by need rather than desire. Her fierce reputation protected her as well as any of her deadly martial arts techniques.

A foray into this earth was disrupted by heroes, and Lady Fade made her escape. She hid for weeks until she realized Marauder was not persuing her. Witnessing daily acts of heroism and kindness, she resolved to make up for the wrongs she'd done in the past.

She's my second oldest character, second to 50, and to this day has my all-time favourite costume.

go with Super Strength. Jab+brawl can work fine as it's own combo, and a tanker or a brute will get enough health to keep them alive, especially with a regular resistance in the secondary. Shield's first power is probably good for this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, melee def + S/L res makes Shield's tier one pretty sweet.
  20. Storm Kick is supposedly the 'best' attack available to scrappers, so you could give that some consideration.
  21. Invulnerability and Willpower are the strongest of the primaries (if you exclude Granite, which I usually do, cause it's irritating, and a noob magnet, and looks dumb, and cause I don't like it).

Anyhoo, going with Inv/ or WP/ will give you a very sturdy, all around tanker. You might not be king of the heap for damage, or cool mitigation powers, or wow factor, but at the end of the day you'll still be alive. And if you did your job right, so should your team.

Ice Melee is about the only underperforming secondary left, although that's speaking strictly to damage dealing. The set is good for AoE damage and excellent for mitigation.

If you and your gf plan to team exlusively in a duo, any tank will work for you. In a duo, the survivability that Inv/ Wp/ and Stone/ provide may not be needed, so feel free to explore the other primaries.

Pick what you want to play, learn how to play it through trial and error, and any combination will work for you.

Edit: Oh, and Taunt is a 'Secondary' power, and available at 'Level 10'. It simplifies tanking, has a variety of uses, a good range debuff, and best of all, costs no endurance. Pick it up at level 10, or pick it up in the early twenties when your defenses have matured a little and you can handle the extra attention.
