Burpy hippos Eight Ball - hope you have a great day!

You know what rocks? Being a player and nothing more than that.
[/ QUOTE ]
He's...he's...back!
It's like the Bridge of Khazad-dûm and Gandalf the White all over again...
WB GR/Alex/Thylacine! -
In before the midnight - happy birthday!

Makes you wonder though if you can knock up an arc in a fairly short amount of time (don't know exactly how long haven't tried it yet) why the forums always seemed to be crying for new content before this.
[/ QUOTE ]
MA's a pretty new tool for the devs as well as the players; we got what we did because they were doing an internal project to make an easier-to-use mission tool for their people and a "hey, we could go public with this!" lightbulb lit up.
Previously devs had had to design missions in Excel, and apparently it was all rather unwieldy. -
[ QUOTE ]
I'm of a mind that people who want to rush to 50, let them. They only ruin things for themselves when they get there and 'oh dear, getting to 50 was the game' *sigh*
[/ QUOTE ]
The problem is people will do that, find there isn't actually that much in the way of PvE or PvP end game and decide not to renew after their first month, thinking there's not much of a game to be had at all.
If all they see is "arrive at Atlas --> MA --> quick 50 --> not a lot", they may never even realise there's so much more out there to try. -

'fraid not, It launches fine for me...though like The_Phantoms I use GvE edition.Though I doubt that has any bearing on the matter.
[/ QUOTE ]
It has none, since everyone uses the same version client.
Copy-paste the shortcut's full path, OP, there might be something missing there. Highly unlikely, but it's worth checking nonetheless.
[/ QUOTE ]
Also, might be worth double-clicking the actual updater EXE - should make it clear whether it's a shortcut problem or a "won't run at all" problem. -
The bit that surprised me most was that US-based MMO report had totally stolen the old British ITV "News at Ten" theme. Thought it might just have seemed similar when it started, then the chimes of Big Ben came in...

Damn Standoff, trying to steal my kudos!
*shakes fist*
My kudos. Mine!

Look, it's the Goodyear Blimp!
* Ties Carni's shoelaces together, grabs kudos and scarpers * -
[ QUOTE ]
Standoff pretty much summed it up
[/ QUOTE ]
Kind of you to say so, although it was actually Carni that gave all the details and binds.
I do have one little one I find quite handy on my PB - changes from Nova to human form, then turns on flight. Handy if you're blasting in Nova and want to briefly flip to human (without plummeting!) to fire off some heals or clicky-buffs.
Sadly not applicable to Warshades, as they can't fly in human form, and even more sadly not to hand for posting at the moment! -
No, just different power picks/slotting for the same power sets.
-
Standard weekly maintenance slot (early-ish Tuesday and Friday mornings), so probably so.
-
'fraid not - they even discontinued the US --> UK transfer a fair while back.

Oooh a Q&A session.
Telling people how to play their game, is it fun?
[/ QUOTE ]
This response really does get right up my nose.
Firstly he's not TELLING people how to play, he's asking WHY they play in a particular way.
Secondly you can justify farming all you like, but the bare bones of the fact remains that it is not the way the devs intended the game to be played. Like it, or lump it, you can't avoid it.
[/ QUOTE ]
was more intended for the militant neighbourhood watch that patrols the forum not mister J.
They don't have right to tell how we should play the game, the devs do.
[/ QUOTE ]
So...reacting to people saying things you don't like, but before anyone's actually said anything at all?
Trigger happy much? -

We seem to be very poor at whinging in comparison.
I'm proud of us.
[/ QUOTE ]
Weeell, if you weight that by the relative sizes of the communities we make up a bit of ground...
Edit: Fixed typo -
[ QUOTE ]
Its like taking kids into a sweet shop telling them they can have anything they want waiting till there eating there chosen sweet and then telling them of for having that one.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd say it's more like taking kids into a sweet shop, telling them they can have anything they want, then coming back 5 minutes later to find they've fetched their dads' wheelbarrows and are filling them with sweets.
You shouldn't leaving kids unattended in sweetshops in the first place...but if you do and find they've taken liberties, you tell them to put stuff back on the shelf. -
[ QUOTE ]
At least the community which can be bothered to post about it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Some of us haven't posted because:
1) The devs haven't done anything yet
2) When they do, it's not clear what it'll be
3) To a fair degree this thread isn't so much a debate as separate groups repeatedly restating their entrenched positions
I suspect that in the circumstances some people haven't posted because there doesn't seem to be a lot extra they can usefully add.
Suggesting that not posting means people "can't be bothered" is really just asking for another heated division to be opened up. -
[ QUOTE ]
On a side note, every other game developer makes statements, or releases, or plain old messages. Positron makes a 'global address'. Got a superhero complex much, have we?
[/ QUOTE ]
At least he isn't as bad as Dr Impossible, yet.
He hacks communications satellites to make his global addresses, and tends to open with "Greetings, insects!". -
[ QUOTE ]
I want to know on what grounds someone would loose access to a character.
How do they determine it?
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not sure they'll ever give the exact rules - doing so would be inviting people to go right up to the edge of what's allowed, look for technically legal exploits, etc...
Keep the rules unknown and they can act with more discretion. -
The "where I'm installed" settings for CoX are stored per-user, so the first time you run as a new account you will get prompted.
If you tell it it's installed one level up from the actual games file directory (e.g. if the files are in "D:\Games\City of Heroes", tell it "D:\Games") it should stop asking after that initial query, though. -
It looks like that one takes you to the US site.
It really shouldn't be this hard to get an EU trial. -
Happy birthday Catz!
We were so happy for you we all[1] had the day off!
[1] Consumer-related, medical and emergency support players excepted. Poor folks. -

.....yay for free speech............
[/ QUOTE ]
Lets not have the "I have the right to say whatever I like on your private forums" argument because it's silly. If you feel Free Speech is being taken away, then there's plenty of places you can Blog and say anything you want.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not at all, I was actually complementing this forum, but as you bring it up, as long as we arent being abusive etc, we have the right to say what we want on a private forum for a game that we pay for.....
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not sure about us having the right - these forums are entirely hosted and moderated by NCSoft, and they can put whatever restrictions they want on them. If they wanted to issue a decree that any post without the word "penguin" in the subject gets insta-pulled, and its OPer banned, they could do that.
That said, automatic deletion of even civil threads on a subject they don't like (like MA problems) can be counterproductive. If forum goers get the impression devs will do what they want and suppress all criticism in the meantime they're more inclined to shrug, mutter "OK, do it your way then, but I'm off" and stroll away into the sunset. -
[ QUOTE ]
Just remember that when you move the folder and run the updater, it will prompt on where to install.
It will append the "City of Heroes" itself.
so if you placed it in c:\games\City of Heroes
point the updater to c:\games\
[/ QUOTE ]
^ That
Just moved from XP to Vista 64 Home Premium myself, and no problems at all with the move.
For some reason the updater shortcut did seem to be prone to changing itself to the US version a few times (just keep an eye out and be ready to change it back!), but after the first week it gave up and stuck with the EU link.
