Hello -
I had been searching and searching for a character I could actually enjoy. I'd try this AT and that AT to no avail... I had been trying all support (I currently have 3-50 defenders) to only find out they're not really all that needed in volume with incarnates and new content as they used to be.
So I changed gears and had the most fun I've ever had with a character, the Necro/Dark MM.
I made her in prae... leveling has been a joy there.
I turned 20, left the island and found my first group. My pets were (no exaggeration) nearly instantly dying every pull. Please bare in mind, I play defenders... I know how to use /dark very effectively.
We were fighting +1's and my minon's health bars went from full to 0 in one hit.
What gives?? Are necro pets the weak of the weak or what?
I'm very disappointed -
... brain... aching...
Anyways here's V2.0 - I cannot take credit for coming up with the damage IO arrangements as I pulled those from another post. Hooray for varying procs! He's nicely overcapped for the new hard hitting -debuffing content as well. Is this better?
Interesting side note -
1. I got some cheaper IO's slotted and joined my first all 50 team on this toon earlier.
2. I was nerdishly excited about the contributions I was going to make to the team. (we all secretly do that as Defenders, right?)
3. Zoned into the instance, said hi, buffed everyone hoping they monitored their +defense, and got ready for some action.
4. Some @sshat on the team sends me a tell, "4 DP u should have made a corr cuz they way better on defenders"
5. "..."
ffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

I figured as much... I should have trusted that if I haven't seen other builds like it before it's likely for a good reason. I also (obviously) was totally unaware off the LotG slotting limitations. I'm glad I posted this before collecting components!
I'll take this good advice and apply it then post the changes. Thank you community! -
Hello -
I was playing around with my build in mids and put this together. I am nervous about the overall slotting as I am new at this. That said, I am really here to pose this question. Is my opinion off base about the following?
Why slot attack powers with +damage IO's on team builds for a defender? I'm not there for damage... am I? Sure some AT's provide fairly good damage but my thinking is with DP go the debuff route. Combining this slotting with the versatility of DP "Swap Ammo" sounds not only fun but an interesting addition to a team. Is this a gimp approach?
Any opinions welcome because this build goes against one of my favorite mantras, "The ultimate debuff is death".
Anyway, here it is. (all the TP powers are for RP reasons btw)

Of your selections, I'd choose kin/rad. Laser beams from goggles, oh my. What about a re-colored rad as a primary? Dark would look "unnatural" to me (oil theme) as others have said... skulls and tentacles?
Trick Arrow - it has an oil slick, hello?! Light it on fire for good times. -
Aye - my FF Defender is still passed out from disbelief from the news about the newish team buffing changes.
New answer: I buff everyone... at once! -
I'm looking to make a new defender and would like some fresh perspective on a few AT combinations. I'm torn between Dark and Radiation Emission for primaries.
I'm also having a hard time combining the right secondary. I am very team oriented however, I'd like to do some AV hunting if possible. Two builds on the same character is not a problem to me.
dark/dark/dark
dark/sonic
rad/sonic
or
ill/rad controller - I love the solo ability but does it have enough toys to interest a team? -
Hello -
I'll get to the point. I'm experiencing a weird problem that I simply do not understand. I hope someone can help.
Starting today, I've had graphic glitches and random crashes. The graphic side has characters and NPC's skipping around. They appear to be rubber banding or "blinking" whenever the character or NPC walks from point a to b. When I try to move, I'm bouncing around too. I know this is nuts but, I can drop through the "floor" sometimes into black space... or through a wall.
I'm also crashing. I notice that these are happening when there is alot of objects to draw... especially spell effects.
The last crash I got a new popup that said...
BasePower not found: <6.38.1>
NOTE: this is likely due to a data mismatch between the client and the server.
So far I have updated drivers, used driver cleaner, and cleaned the heat sink.
Anyone?

Ahh I see. It seems there were a few things I didn't realize.
However, now that I understand I think this question's showing me that a Defender isn't best suited for what I had in mind.
Too bad.. I <3 Defenders. -
Hello -
Seeing the synergy of kinetics and electric, I've been running around having initial fun draining, transferring, and shocking things.
However, I've been waiting for the described "sapping" part to show up. I'm sad to say, I'm not seeing the results I've read others describe about electric.
I'm watching enemy endurance bars and seeing very, very little endurance being drained and even less being transferred back to me. Is it simply that this only gets better with level/IO's?
Side note: I am having a BLAST with the otherwise dreaded "Repel". Boy, this ability is way under rated. I slotted it with end reduction and +KB... nothing bothers the other backfield support/ranged with me around. I "ping" the loose baddies back to the tank/brutes for a quick pick up however, my thoughts of refilling endurance with /electric just isn't jiving. -
Hiyas -
So this is the first time I've ever put together then posted a build. For the most part I want my lil controller to *gasp* farm (I need money!) and I like to team up sometimes with her as well.
I am not looking for an elite build... I tend to think a farm build shouldn't break the bank to make... who am I kidding? I have no bank to break. Anyway...
I know that earth is fotm. I am not a overly serious min/maxer and am okay with fire... I just like /fire for specific reasons. Aside from that I've a feeling I did some things wrong. I'm over 45% cap and I hear that doing so is a "waste".
I'm sure I could have copied other people's successful builds but there's no way I'd learn from behavior like that. I got as far as my lil mind could take me with this build and now I'm stuck.
Help?
EDIT - Changed build after Dark_Tower's advice (below).
Question - Why are my defenses (not resistance) so much lower than other builds I've looked at? I see defenses in the 70's and higher yet do not see where in the build it's coming from.

Some good feedback here and much appreciated.
Methinks I'll rephrase.
You're a tanky tank type. You're looking to bring "A" support kin with you into an extreme AE so bad the Fateweaver said, "Whatcho' talkin bout, Willis?".
If you had a preference, what "type" of kin would you prefer? (bonus) is it a kin?
Controller
Defender

Hello -
Having finally leveled my FF Defender and slotting nicely as well as my fire/kin Controller... well to put it bluntly I'm looking to make another alt
I enjoy support (duh) and am very intrigued by the kinetics set. I see it's in high demand around the Architect Mission loading area (so much yelling!)... my fire/kin gets a lot of attention and I enjoy player her on teams. However, I look to the Defender and wonder...
I'd like to make a "sidekick" themed character (fun is important) and am thinking a Kinetics defender for hire (for free really) would fit the bill. Let's face it, I love playing support more than anything...
That said, I ask my experienced experts... would a Kinetics defender:
Fulfill the needs of a fast paced AE team?
If so.. kinetics/ ?? what ??
Thanks! -
Don't argue with an idiot. He'll bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.
I'm going to live by this while on the teams making "end game" comments on FF and empathy (amongst other confrontations).
That said I must again say that I'm floored by the action my one question has caused.
I was away awhile and had to catch up (from page two methinks) on the conversation(s). I now see double, my nose is bleeding, and I'm not sure what this substance coming from my ears is... there is a TON of great information here if you're good at filter-fu! While hard to absorb... It's almost a "guide" of sorts now? *meh*
This thread has caused me to love the player base of this game. The recent posts have made me resurrect my little bubbler.
I thank you. All of you. Punch and pie for everybody! -
Wow look what I started....
Update: With all the controversy, I jumped on the DPS bandwagon and am having "bliss-full" fun. I'll let others worry about the strife that is otherwise known as "support". -
Quote:First off... thank you everyone again for your great feedback. Both sets are fine at high levels. The only thing really different about them compared to other games is the entire raid/encounter doesn't hinge on them like in some games. They are just a (very) useful part of a larger whole.
You said you enjoy support classes. One you might want to check out in addition to Defenders is Controllers. You'll also probably eventually find love for more aggressive, but still support-natured sets like Cold Domination, Dark, and Kinetics.
While I also hate to say this, you might also consider a change of venue. I have spent limited time on Freedom and it made me kind of crazy. I've found Virtue, which is the unofficial RP server, to be more open to support characters, in general.
Yes, I tried a fire/kin controller last night. *happy noise* fire, fire, fire! Very fun. Not doing near the damage I heard it could do but, I'm playing it to support a team anyway
I tried other servers before landing in Freedom. I'll remember your advice however, on those other servers I could hear my voice echo across the city...
"Anyone there? Hello?" -
Great feedback. So glad to hear it!
So, if I understand you all correctly good support is still "necessary" at end game. *Whew* Thank goodness.
Looks like Disco Dave will continue to dispense shiny disco balls of love (FF) on Freedom. -
Hello -
New to the game so let me preface my question for those kind enough to supply feedback. I've been playing "support classes" in every game I get my hands on including this one (loving it so far!).
However, while playing my two characters (of which I've been having a blast!) one empathy the other force field I've come across something that concerns me.
While playing at the lower levels I see the "need" for what my characters bring to the team (buffs/blasts/general support)... however on more than one occasion I hear this from players:
"You're doing great! Too bad your AT's aren't needed end game..."
Whoa... is this true? Does empathy and force field become moot to teams @ 50?
P.S. notice not once (except for now) did I mention "heal/heals". My question does not revolve around "heals". When I say support, I mean true support by using FF and EMP to it's fullest buffing, supporting, and including secondary blasting potential.
I thank you in advance for any feedback you can provide.
