  1. Oh the Vista widgets? yeah... but they can be made to disappear if you don't give them focus, or go transparent.

But that's a valid concern. You might want to position the artwork so that your desktop tools don't obscure it.

We should all just totally STOP getting NSFW pics anyway! Then we won't have to worry about this issue at all wold we?

    What, are you nuts? :P

Seriously, the option to display "mature content" in DA is NOT just "if you're logged in". There's a checkbox under the account settings "Browsing" section, that when checked, allows it to be displayed.

But I'll have to redo my DA gallery. It's... *ahem* got a bit of NSFW in the recent deviations, as well as the faves. So that's a no-no. I'll build a page off my personal site with a "by clicking here you are acknowledging that you may see bare boobs and such" link, to my DA, and link THAT to my siggy.

EDIT: Sig is fixed. I'll redo the intercept page when I get home (MS Word creates MESSY HTML - me like Dreamweaver better!) but it'll do for now.

I'm sure there's a script that could be used to 'pass' a URL through a page like this, so a seperate version wouldn't be needed for each person. Perhaps a coder could assist, based on this example?
  3. Shrike:

The way I've done wallpapers is to take an image, resize it so that it is the same HEIGHT as the screen, give or take a few pixels, then expand just the canvas to the Width of the screen.

Then use the color picker to set the canvas color to the background color of the artwork. This gives the illusion of extending the piece across the screen without distorting the art.

For Windows wallpapers, you want your subject on the right. Mac users will probably want it on the left.

You can also do things like add typography or logos along with the artwork, or toss rectangles behind it to 'matte' it. My DA page has an example of my Mistress Ohm wallpaper, complete with a screencap of Macromedia Fireworks, which I was using to MAKE that same wallpaper!

... sadly, there probably won't be one, unless Don Cornelius Productions lets me run with it....

... but DAMn wouldn't it be fun!

  5. That's... really quite fun. I like the bold use of colors and the brush strokes.
  6. It's a lovely lovely piece, Scarf.
  7. You'd select the server with your friends that referred you the trial code, Zloth.
  8. You could always do it like a Dali or other surrealist painting... incorporate the 'random' nature of the costume into the piece.

Like a Peter Gabriel stop-action video.
  9. hey Sayterra! Ebony-chan (Kimberly Platt) says she's going.

not sure if you'd want to hook up with her, but she's done a lot of art for us CoH'ers.

    Soul,

I'm communicating with Gill now, but to be honest I'm still leery about the situation and ow it's going to come out in the end.

I'll leave it up to Dagger whether he wants to go ahead or not. I can only imagine how busy he is.

Either way. Thank you for your effort and Dagger for his generous offer. It has meant a lot.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I went ahead and told him, left it up to him if he wants to back off or whatnot.

And now, the ball is in Gill's court, really.

    [ QUOTE ]

Thank you for always keeping me in the loop. Its good to know that MMOArt is back and making good their commitments.

But I never back away from a commitment, whether its paid for or not. Tell Jotunn that I will put the drawing on hold, just in case. If MMOArt delivers, all is well then. If not, the community has something to fall back on. I do hope all will be fine.

    Regards to all.

    Dagger

Well if you like I can let Dagger know Gill's 'back.'

But.... now I don't know WHAT to do.

One part wants to just tell him to go get a real job, art talent or no, cos he's REALLY bad at running a business. The other... the other is to try and support him.

Doesn't help that it's been a long stressful day and Double Xp s turning into lagsville and crash city.
  13. OOoooooOooo!!!

I think we just figured out how to AUTOMATE the Virtueverse Game News feature. We'll just pull the last two RSS/Atom summaries.

I'm going to ask for my deposit back on the exotic piece, and push for completion on the regular piece....

And to all the folks in this thread, that have volunteered to pick up the slack... thank you, you rock.
  15. Doug, I'd LIKE to think I've progressed beyond that. :P

You know, by actually positioning and tinting lights, pacing backdrops or set pieces, et cetera. My first renders were strictly amateurish floundering.

But I think my last one (sorry, NSFW, but I'm sure enterprising people can find it) was actually not too bad.... for no postwork.
  16. OK, here's my take on the whole "3D people reuse parts all the time" deal.

3D rendering is NOT like drawing.

    It's more akin to photography.

You can have two different photographers using the same model, but their photographs will be radically different. Lighting, poses, settings, props... all of that goes to put together the key of ANY artwork:

    COMPOSITION

It's not WHAT is in the scene, but HOW it is arranged and presented. This is how DJ can take a stock element (Victoria 4) and pose her and clothe her and set her in a scene, and completely blow away anything I render with Victoria 4, because (here's the key) DJ is a BETTER ARTIST when it comes to composition, as well as have skills with tools I do not (photoshop, drawing and painting in general, etc.)

To the 2D drawing argument... I can see reusing a base sketch to a point. Maybe even reusing a figure pose. But when the COMPOSITION doesn't change, and all that's altered is the colors or the textures of the model... what we have are Andy Warhol-esque 'versions' of the same picture. If I were to sell such a picture, I'd sell it as a series. "Miss X, as Naughty Nadya! Miss X, as Power Girl! Miss X as Rogue!" etc etc etc.

That's my interpretation. Take it as you will.

    Meet Julie!

I love those pictures, and they fit so well with the VV page.
  18. Cosmic Ringmistress by Alex Dai

Posted to his "Sketch a Day" thread (I think Alex has said these are all cool for City Scoop-age).
  19. What Juggs said.

If you're displaying it as "Check out what so and so did for my character" then it's not so much a big deal.

But if you're gonna take that artwork and put it on a CD cover to sell CD's for your band... yeah, I'd think the artist MIGHT want a bit more cash.

Now as for this guy... this is the first time he's put up two different 'versions' of the same basic drawing, usually the 'commission' version doesn't get posted at all that I've seen. That may be why he asked you not to put it on HF. He posts his version and that's it. If there's a 'reskin' sitting around then either people assume you reskinned yours unauthorised... and he gets caught up in the "wait I commissioned this!" mess ... or he's 'slacking by reskinning his own drawings, which also makes him look bad.

    So.. yeah.

    And yes, he's... odd.

I don't think he sells the same drawing to two different commissioners... if he does then he's a slimeball.
  20. niiice. I like that one. Wibbles!!
  21. Oh I'm sure that once she got HOME... the roles got reversed!!
  22. I would think that commission/specs would cry out for "for hire" but yes, many artists do wish to be credited.

    Which isn't the issue.

I think (not sure) that this artist's specifying HF as NOT an OK place to post? He doesn't want his work anywhere else but his gallery on HF. I've never seen him post a 'commissioned' version of his work - he always tweaks them to be different than the commissioned version. Rather odd, but... yeah.

I'd just write this one up as "Lesson Learned" and keep it in mind for next time. Personally, only two of the people I've commissioned has asked for any special measures to be taken with a gallery posting (watermarks, reducing DPI, etc), which I'm more than happy to comply with such requests.

I've even gone so far as to move the artist signature when I was asked to provide a cropped version for the City Scoop, so that it still appeared in the cropped version (it would have been cropped out otherwise.)

I need pose/concept info! Dagger's asking what y'all want him to draw.
