    That's why you combine Fire/ with /Ice--that gives you all the control you need.

    Finding ranged damage in a secondary to overcome Psi's relatively weak damage is a lot more difficult.

    I have played out all the sets now at least to around 30 (so i don't know much about the nukes) and I am just not seeing "weak damage" from psy. At least not for single target.

    Against robots and carnies? Ok, maybe then, but with AE and tons of heroside content, it is pretty easy to avoid the psy-resistant enemies.

    We don't really know whats going on, but a lot of important accounts in The Renegades have been perma-banned. Maybe the devs decided they were sick of bitter hardcore pvpers pointing out their mistakes. I don't know, we're hoping the issue will be investigated and there will be some sort of resolution.

    This is a pretty big hit against our group, and with the state of pvp right now, a big hit against The Renegades is a big hit against the community as a whole.

    Well for one thing once you get your recharge slotted its not that great. Fire blast has no trouble doing flares,fire blast, blaze as a seemless chain. If you have a ranged attack in your secondary you don't even need the high recharge.

    My chain is fine as long as I use the 4 ST attacks. That's when I have some recharge slotting of course.

    I don't really feel the need for all the time spent trying to stack controls when my 4 attacks are from long range and one sends the boss flying backwards onto his back most times.

  6. This thread is silly to me because the one thing that drives me crazy in MMOs is the constant "MY HEALER DOESNT DO ENOUGH DPS->WELL MY DPS DOESN'T TANK WELL ENOUGH->WELL MY TANK DOESN'T HAVE GOOD ENOUGH HEALS.

    You want damage? Play a rad/sonic.

    That's still not enough damage for you? Then why the hell are you playing a defender?

    Defenders contribute far too much to a team to act like their damage is such a crucial element of the class.

    I really don't get how people keep calling psy blast bad in pve.

    It is absolutely bad at AoE, I totally see that.

    But for single target, it has been doing amazing for me so far. Can absolutely wreck a purple Boss super fast by spamming the 4 main ST attacks.

    People don't usually seem to call ice bad, and it is single target just like psy.

    And I don't care if ice/ gets a couple of holds, I find the knockback from TK blast much more useful for killing bosses and lt's than any hold.

    RttC is not a melee power; it is the main form of damage mitigation for WP. Without it, you have a smattering of resists and defenses, and some +HP. Yes, it is much better when used in melee range, but it's a respectable power against ranged attacks, provided it doesn't drop, that is.

    What power are yo utalking about cause as Mac said and as I know RTTC does nto do what you described.

    It is a melee aura that grants regen for mobs in range as well as provides a -tohit to the enemy while in range. Without a mob in melee range, its does nothing

    While the title is obviously going to spark many one-liner replies, please hear me out.

    Defenders currently have a secondary devoted completely to damaging yet it is my opinion that they fall behind both Tankers and Controllers in terms of damage. (Unless you compare the best damage of defenders, say Dark/Sonic with the worst of controllers, say Earth/Empathy)

    Personally I view this as a gross imbalance of the game, Defenders should have much more power and ability in soloing. They are still heroes afterall! They should not be treated like the clerics or priests of the game by people who know no better - if anything that title is more fitting of controllers anyway.

    It is just a big shame that Defenders start with a good ability to solo and it just goes down hill rapidly from there. By the time they hit level 20 and their real numbers, their abilities to solo have diminished by a large amount.

    I realise Defender damage has been buffed a long time ago once before, and their attacks reduced in cost as well but I think it is time for another look. Reading the changes to Dominators, I would not be asking for a huge overhaul like that as I realise the amount of Dev time needed. However, it is also a good time to perhaps ask a similar look is given to Defenders as well?

    Which leaves me thinking about a simple way of improving Defenders, apart from an across the board increase in damage, a simple way in which Defenders could be improved is through their inherent ability - an abiity which many will agree is among the worst of any archtype. Now, that alone is not a good reason for it to be changed however consider the following:

    - The ability has zero use outside of a team, an area which defenders could actually use more help with.

    - For many powersets, the ability is counter productive. As a forcefield defender who's job it is to *prevent* damage, ideally hardly anyone will get hurt and the ability wont be in effect.

    - The ability largely depends on the abilities of your team mates and their sets. If you team with a good tank or controller, again it will have minimal use.

    When you compare Viligance to something like Containment, an inherent which gives controllers very respectful damage early on if they slot accordingly (My Mind Controller breezed through the early levels) and becomes even more poweruful with double damage EPP AoE's.

    Overall I think Defenders need a boost in damage because they are lacking and when they have a secondary devoted to damage, the benefits seem lost when Controllers, who have no damage powerset and are blessed with Controls, Buffs/Debuffs and pets and more damage.

    My suggestion to the devs that a quick and simple way of making a change to Defenders would be to target their inherent, Viligance, which is currently underpeforming. If changed to something that would really boost Defenders and make them feel more Heroic, its ramificaitons would be across all powersets and be a universal buff of goodness.

    It has been my experience so far that this MMO doesn't really require optimized toons.

    It really is more like something where you can just make your character in whatever flavor you want and it will probably work in some fashion and you can have fun with it.

    Even the "raids" in this game or the high end task forces don't really seem to require tons of expensive super efficient builds.

    I have been on some ITF's now that were successful even with some very "less-than-optimized" players and they were still fun.

    No, I can't solo Romulus 4 times in under 1 minute. Nobody can. It's impossible to SOLO romulus 4 times in under 1 minute, no single character in this game has both the damage output and the resistance. If there is, seriously, PM me so the dev's don't know our haxXxor.
    It would at least be nice if you mentioned your teammates(who may or may not have been your SG mates on that specific team to watch you solo Romulus in record time).

    I was thinking well hey, maybe with a Shivan and Warburg nuke but that is still like 15 seconds each kill, less actually because it takes him a few seconds to rez up each time.

    QFT. I have to add that the character creation is nice and has some interesting features and every cool name that is taken in City is currently available in CO. HOWEVER, the graphics are ... not very good. They look a lot like my "graphics minimum" on the high-powered machine I used. And some of the attack chain quirks, are not so nice either. Unless it gets lots better, there is no interest here in a switch, even a temp one.

    Except the character creation, it is confusing and impossible to use, may help that the graphics match that of pong. CO is full of fail, seems liked they've taken what the players here at CoX would like to see and put it into a game with a 20 dollar budget.

    I tried out CO after getting my invite.

    The problems, in order of finding them:

    Character looks all blurry in the creator tool...
    Only one face possible. No way to change the mouth shape, eye size/shape, nose, nothing. All you can do is overlay the face with wrinkles...?
    Blocky character. No body sliders that have any real impact.
    Picked my powersets...was told something weird about the powers I got. Didn't really know what the game was talking about.
    Entered the game. No voice acting. Everything looked sepia and drab. Unless you turn off bloom, things look weird and foggy.
    Realised the only way to make the game look kinda nice was to turn on outlines and all the other cartoon stuff. This turned the game into a sort of Marvel Ultimate Alliance, but with far more complex and opaque controls. Still couldn't fathom the levelling system.
    The GUI seemed to be lifted directly from Age of Conan...
    Your character spends most of the time being tiny on screen, cos the only way to see your enviroment properly is to zoom waaay out.
    Played though some missions...I think? I got some tasks from NPCs but had no idea how they linked together or what my overall aim was.

    I gave up after a couple of goes. My character looked ugly and the power animations were just lame.
