  1. I'm downloading the game on a new machine and halfway through the download my little boy closed the updater/download. Now when I open it, it seems to be stuck on 'downloading file manifest'. How long should it be on that? Anything I can do to it?
  2. Hover blast in Nova. Use the temp fly pack to switch to human for buffs/heals.
  3. Nope, I'd still be a tri-former, but I would spend more time in human than I do now...which is very little.
  4. Kiting is basically a character with ranged attacks unloading on a foe who either has little or no ranged attacks to counter.

For example, my PB likes to "kite" in Nova form, particularly against players in PvP who don't have the same range capabilities. I'll hover-blast in Nova form while the other player either retreats or jumps up to get in range, gets one attack off and falls back to the ground. Sometimes they'll fly up to challenge me in the air, at which point I'll drop to human form, light them up with Incandescent Strike and make them fall back down to the ground again.

Kiting can be done with any ranged AT...blasters, corruptors, defenders etc. It's just a tactical advantage that can be useful in certain situations.

At first, I thought that on a Human-only PB, you might be right Soilent, but then I went to Mids and played a little and got a "build" that without sets, started at 10% defense and 28% resists to everything but toxic/Psi damage. Add to this what sets could add, and Human-form mez protection, and whatever values the PB would get from Cosmic Balance, and you'd be looking at a tank mage, at least that's the impression I got.

So, why would anyone want to restrict themselves by using White Dwarf at all when they can make a tank mage? I wonder...
As it stands right now you could run a tankmage with Cosmic Balance. Just run with 4 controllers and 3 scrappers and you'll have all the mez and extra resistance you'll need (added to the shields).

Dwarf would still offer more HPs, an extra heal (on both WS and PB), another AoE attack/Buff, and more resistance. Seems like a better vehicle for absorbing an alpha strike to me.

But...I've been through threads like this many times before. Some people are for human form mez protection, some are against. I personally still don't get having self-res shields and numerious melee attacks (especially PBs) without any mez protection. It's counter-intuitive in my opinion. I think it's a design flaw that could have been addressed when they made adjustments to Kheldians a while back. I like what we have now, but this would open up the AT to more players who want to go human-only.
  6. I'd frankenslot it unless you're looking to get set bonuses out of it as well. 4 heal/rech IO's will get you close enough to the ED threshold - then put in 2 interrupts and you're set.
  7. In PvP...Fire/ is my choice due to the incredibly quick recharging heal.
  8. The "confuse" purple set is still moderately cheap (for that type of set), you might look into that for use in your World of Confusion.

I'd personally drop Invisibility and just put that extra slot into CJ for the LoTG. Grab the stealth IO if you really want/need more stealth to stack on top of stealth...but for PvE, Superspeed and Stealth will already do the trick.

With the open power slot you could get Force of Nature for those really tough battles...or you could find another power to drop and go for Aid Self. I see the way you are building for various bonuses, but you can really up your survivability with Aid Self. I'd drop the "Snipe" power...you're much better off spamming Blazing Arrow/Aimed Shot in terms of damage and effectiveness.
  9. I've been told flat out in a PM by Castle that there aren't any plans to grant Kheldians with any human form mez protection. He said it would "obviate" Dwarf form...and no one would use or take that power (I disagree) if we had mez protection in human form.

The solution they gave us was the insta-break free with Dwarf form, and they threw us a bone with toggles continuing to run while mezzed so we didn't have to re-toggle every time (even though the benefits outside of PvP would be lost during that time).

The devs told us to team with controllers or bring break frees, so those are your best bets. We've had this type of discussion in this forum many times over.
  10. any way to copy files over from the coh program files to sync with test to bypass the long download?
  11. I'm not saying they should do this, but if all other forms of travel are suppressed when someone is attacking or being attacked, shouldn't "travel" in the form of Teleport Friend also suppress?

    Ethernet issue

This may sound stupid, but I did a reinstall of Windows and for some reason I can't get my ethernet adapter working. I thought I had all the drivers saved etc. but it's nowhere to be found. Is there a way to I.D. what kind of adapter I have and download it from the internet?
  13. I've often dreamed of a "Kheldian Day of Reckoning" in a PVP zone.

The plan would be to show up with something in the area of 30 PBs and WSs all in Nova form and just blast away at anything that moves.

    That'll teach 'em.
  14. Probably not with all the accuracy bonuses I have
  15. -Res component to all attacks? I'd love that. I like the -Def in PvP, but it's pretty useless in PvE.
  16. Hmmm...

Don't like the idea of any location-based powers. The game moves too fast for things like this. Only AV fights tend to keep things in the same area. Maybe a moving buff pet like the vet pets, only not as flimsy.

The AoE heal is a good idea, but I wouldn't want to give up any self-heal effectiveness for that. I'd rather sacrifice other useless powers.
  17. I'd really like to see Group Energy Flight swapped out for something useful...not sure if that would be an AoE heal, or some sort of click buff (think Mind Link, but maybe it adds +Res).

I think the consensus among the CoH playerbase is that Group Flight of any kind might be a "neat" idea, but it's very situational, and the execution of the power is very poor.

I'm also a long time proponent of doing something with Photon Seekers. The "improved" version we have now still doesn't quite cut it...and the recharge time is far too high for this power. I'd be satisfied if they lowered the recharge...but there have been many other ideas of what to do with this power.

Light Form would be so much better with enhanced graphics...I mean, even the intense aura-like glow of Unstoppable would be better than what we have now. I don't like turning into my own personal Photon Seeker.

I'll have to get home after work and copy them from the power tray...wish I had them memorized

I'll post them when I get home...they really make a huge difference for me.

    Edit:

Here is an example of one. Just swap the toggle name (whether Dwarf or Nova) and the power name you want activated coming out of it.

    powexec_toggleoff Bright Nova$$powexec_name Energy Flight

Welcome to the fold of "shield-less" PBs. Like you said, there is quite the learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it's a lot of fun.

One thing that you may or may not already have is a bind/macro set up that allows for multiple things coming out of forms.

For example, I have macros that drop me from Nova form into Energy Flight, or Combat Flight, Q Flight, SS and one that is set up to drop me from Nova and activate Reform Essence. I have similar setups from Dwarf.

Sure, I could detoggle the form, but often times that split second detoggling and then hitting the power you need is the difference. In fact, this kind of setup allows for swapping to Dwarf, healing and dropping back to a hovering/flying Human form without losing altitude - a plus in aerial combat.

And I love getting on full teams that are in close proximity...I was hitting for 300+ per shot in Nova form the other day on a full team. With the blasts each cycling at about 1 second, I was piling up damage and kills in short order.
  20. Funny to hear complaints about "less skill". Maybe it's because new people are actually giving PvP a shot - something we should be grateful for.

RV is a lot more active now than it ever was. And yes, it can get pretty laggy...
  21. If you factor in an "Eclipsed" Warshade...then I'll take Nova blasting over human every single time. You don't really lose any of the survivability and spawns will drop much more quickly.

I'd almost say I'd take "Dwarf Blasting" over human blasting just by being able to repeat Dwarf Mire over and over and over again when your WS is slotted correctly.
  22. A good starter AT for PvP on the blue-side is /Regen Scrapper. I say this because you'll be pretty sturdy and be able dish out a decent amount of damage as well.

You could try a Blaster which will allow you to dish out a lot of damage, but if you don't know what you're doing you might get your butt kicked quite a bit early on and get a little discouraged.

As for builds...do some research at City of Data (coh.redtomax.com/data/powers) to see how drastically the same power differs from the PVE realm to the PVP world.

(I dont ever intend to get the 5% health on that task force nightmare thing) The really great thing about i13/15 was the nasty nerf to -rech powers and def, so you no longer need all the +rech and +acc that you used to back in i12, especially considering your secondary effect is -def. The build has +19% damage, +30 rech, and +35 acc. The real feeling of joy comes with a PBer being so easy to slot out kb IO's in. Clocking in with 8 of them in the build, no mind dom can throw me around.
The reason I go with a high +recharge build on my PB is to get the 3 heals back up as quickly as I possibly can. I've never tried to go for +HP outside of accolades, which I've been able to get over the course of 4 years or so with the character.

I think they both serve to the same end - more survivability.

Along the same lines, there is another way to reach decent survivability with a human form build and free up a number of other slots - Tough.

This is from memory, but I'd be willing to go back and check the numbers in-game. With the 3 shields fully slotted and running, you are able to reach something in the area of 37% resistance to all. This includes the inherent AT bonus of 15% with DR applied. That's a pretty good figure.

With Tough fully slotted and running, you are somewhere in the neighborhood of 27% resistance to all (slightly more resistance to Energy due to Incandescense) with the AT bonus and DR applied.

To reach the maximum capacity in either scenario, you need at least 3 slots in each shield, and preferably 4 to slot in some Endurance reduction etc. The same can be said for Tough.

It's not quite as sturdy, but you free up a minimum of 6 enhancement slots and 1 power choice....which might provide more flexibility in your build.

I'm a huge fan of Nova form, however, so any human-form toggles outside of the travel powers have been removed from my build.

Very interested to know how you get your kills.

By the way, that extra slot for more DamRes in Incandescence could be used elsehwere, it's only bumping up your energy resistance by like 3% pre-DR.
