  1. Okay I'm not against <character name@global name>, however the original post makes the process needlessly more complicated than that with all the (hidden) numbering. After having an unique global name, nothing is needed because you will have to come up with unique names for your "stable" of characters.

At minimum it would be needed for serve-rless play. It mimics comics where there are sometimes characters with the same name at different comics. (Copyrights for similar art aside, no company should have ever have been allowed to trademark names. I'm looking at you Thor.) Take a look at how many Robin Hoods there are in all media types.

I get pestered by HeyImAJerk. I know, if I /petiton HeyImAJerk, they'll get the right guy. There's no "Is that HeyImAJerk@Brattykid, HeyImAJerk@Justkidding, HeyI'mAJerk@SteveMartinFan..." to go on. There's only one person with that name on that server.
The argument that people would be hard to petition is entirely suspect though. Like that other superhero game (I tried it for a few weeks), this is not difficult to handle. You click on their name in the chat window and all the options from sending chat, ignoring them, or petitioning them should be there. We are close to that here in CoH.

If you've teamed with someone you like, you can then click on their name or their character and add them as a friend. It literally takes a second to do.

From what I've seen if CoH does go to a sever-less system, you are unlikely to meet a similar named character in one of a hundred instances of Atlas Park, unless the name is really generic.

You can play about 4,400 different arcade machines. Examples: Joust, Pacman, Donkey Kong, Tempest, Dig Dug, Defender just to name a few.

I could let you know my CompTIA A+ Certification ID if you want to check. Or provide transcripts for either of my diploma's (programming & systems analysis and web development & design).

On the other hand none of that would matter one bit for the discussion at hand other than to say that I have a very broad general computer knowledge and familiarity. Experience in the specifics of this case I likely don't have a lot (I haven't developed a MMO. I also have not had to support a MMO's hardware or software).

Really? You'd think that with how much of an upgrade Pyro got that CoH would play smoother, at a higher FPS, and have quicker load times.

    <.<

Joking. I've seen the FPS reports above.

That would have been joined up thinking and given them an extra 24 hours of live time to confirm that all was well before the holiday started.

No need to shut up shop twice when once will do makes commercial sense.

    Have a Happy Holiday.
You don't really understand the difficulties in what you are suggesting, do you? They likely couldn't do both "at once" and the regular downtime is set to clear things out at regular intervals so that the game runs well.

In this case "commercial sense" completely ignores technical requirements. If anything happened they would be charged a lot for overtime (over a holiday no less). Far better financially to do what they did.

Actually, I just thought of another use...

    6 Wacom Cintiqs

    One for tools.
    One for closeup work
Other four for various zoom levels, combined for a large image, a couple of movies for splicing, several tutorials while working on a piece, several web pages, or showing finished results of any the above.

Edit: Or just 2 Cintiqs and four 32" displays.

Yep, I miscounted the backplate and the ports on the motherboard itself. After I sent you that PM, I found some really large pictures of that motherboard, and figured I was off (and out of the running).

    Top down.

I thought that would keep people guessing for a bit lol.
Mostly I did just that: I read through the thread, looked at the pictures Pyro posted, and counted ports on the pictures. You had also mentioned in one post that there were at least 12.

2 on the top of the case
3 on the new media readers front.
The media reader was the unknown factor for me. I don't think I've mentioned this but I became an A+ Certified Technician about 12 years ago. The eSATA ports confused me in the smaller picture that Pyro posted, and I couldn't see the internal USB ports clearly. Once I found those pictures above, I knew everything except the media reader.

Well, I've already PM'd CR my guess. I guessed 15, but that depends on if that 52-in-1 reader is using one of the internal USB ports.

If it is using one, then you are right at 14 plus one inactive USB port on the front-side of the case.

If it isn't using an internal port, then it is 15: Twelve on the back plate, 2 internal, plus the "bonus" port on the 52-in-1 reader. (By the way that is 12 USB2 ports, 2 USB3 ports, and the "Bonus" port).

A partial list of potential problem badges:

Isolator. Villains were specifically blocked from getting this badge according to Positron. This was designed for the RV contaminated.

Multidimensional. Villains were able to get it for a month, and then it was stripped from them 1 month after issue 7 launch.

Fire Thorn Caster gladiator. Stripped from villain characters during the Issue 7 patch.

Button Man Gunner gladiator. Stripped from villain characters during the Issue 7 patch.

Nebula Buckshot gladiator. Stripped from villain characters during the Issue 7 patch.

Villain Disruptor. I believe this was blocked on villains.

Hero Slayer. I believe this was blocked on heroes.

This suggestion would have a dramatically opposite effect. So I will have to join everyone else in saying that this is not only a bad idea, but an earth-shatteringly stupid idea.

It would kill interest in the majority of players that do not power level while not affecting those that do. This, in a nutshell, shows what little thought went into this suggestion. People that do not power level have spent many hundreds (if not thousands) of hours with their characters. Why would you think that this suggestion that other people's entertainment time should be limited is a good suggestion?

It is their money that pays for the game, not yours. What, exactly, is the point of the game? To enjoy the game. That enjoyment takes many forms, and it isn't for you to decide what constitutes that enjoyment.

What let down? I often prefer playing one of my 7 level 50s to starting a new character. If you don't like to play a level 50 character, just delete it. Even if I was "let down" that I hit level 50 that does not mean that my characters, that I've enjoyed playing for hundreds of hours, be shelved automatically in a draconian manner.

Instead of being inspired, I would feel punished for succeeding.

Speaking as a badge collector, I have to say that there is no reward worth locking me out of any of my level 50s. I wouldn't trade locking out a single character in this way for a life-time free subscription to the game. On the other hand, if the developers imposed this horrible suggestion, I would instantly deactivate my account and never subscribe to ANY NCsoft game ever again.

The incentive to move on is already present: up to 36 character slots on 11 US servers.

All the retirement would do is fill up those slots faster or force players to "kill off" some of their favourite characters.

Given that this suggestion would drive paying customers away, good luck getting a developer to respond to this in any other way than "no". This "suggestion" would make that Star Wars Galaxy fiasco seem like a minor disagreement. NCsoft would never want that kind of negative press.

I'm at about 4.5 day job badges left to go (and 5 day job accolades) till I'm done (I've got partial counts on 4 of the 5 badges I have left). In about 10 days I'll get Law Enforcer for 2 of the accolades though.
