I want to really thank SlaveDawg for this awesome piece! I'm still working on my half of the trade. I'm flabbergasted at how this turned out. Thank you from the bottom of my heart SlaveDawg.

You are very welcome. I am just glad that it turned out like I hoped it would, and what is even better is that you liked it.

I think I am going to have to do more in this style because it actually looks comic book-ish. Also, with a little more practice I could probably start pumping these out as fast as LJ
  2. I have an Intuos3 6x8 that I just got recently and I really like it. It has been a lot of fun to use. You can see multiple pieces that I have created using it on my DA page.

I really like the tablet when working in PhotoShop, but I have not been able to use it very well in Illustrator (I use a mouse for all my vector art because I can get much finer control that way).

Anyway, I started out using a friends Graphire and they work very good and should meet all your needs.
  3. This is my end of an art trade with Tundara.

    Tundara Victorious!

Well, I really hope you like it. I made pretty much all the comments that I want to make about it on my DA page.

Enjoy! I had a great time creating this piece.

    Art Trade?

    Here is an update.

    Tundara WIP

Anyway, just wanted you to see my progress. I am still blocking in colors and tweaking things here and there.

I actually decided to do this a little different and so I am trying something new with style. This will be done is a type of cell shading style. So, in the end if you don't like the results I can just port it over to PhotoShop and paint it. But, I am hoping this works out... stay tuned for more updates

OK, here is the rough sketch for my painting of Tundara:

    Tundara Rough Sketch

Let me know what you think. Also, just to make sure, but she is an Ice/Ice Tank correct? If not, then the sword may not fit right. But, if you are happy with the design so far then I will get started on the final lines and colors.

    Art Trade?

OK, here is my character's info:

    Name: Freddy Sunshine
    AT: Scrapper
    Primary: Claws
    Secondary: Dark Armor
    Origin: Magic

So far, about the only thing I know about him is that he is a die hard surfer (and uses the prestige power slide for travel because it looks like he is surfing). he loves the ocean and talks like you would expect a California surfer to talk. he uses words like "totally awesome", "gnarly", and "trippen dude" a lot.

Anyway, feel free to take the information above and do what you want with it. I only ask that you somehow explain how he got his claws and darkness abilities.

If you need anything else from me, just say so (or PM me) and I will gladly provide it.

(P.S. click his name to see his picture)

    Art Trade?

Sounds like a winner of a deal if you ask me, and I agree to your terms of an ingame bio and a longer more involved story. I will get started on some sketches and ideas for you.

And I will be very excited to see what you do with my character. He is still very new (only level 10 so far) and so he doesn't have a lot of background or history. That should allow you a lot of creative freedom to work your magic.

    Art Trade?

Hey, Tundara, I will take you up on your trade... if you like. I need some practice anyway. You can see examples of my work at my DA page listed in my sig.

If you would like to do a trade with me, then send me a PM with some examples of what you would like (poses, possible powers, props) and I will get to work on it. Please limit it to just your character and maybe a simple background.

As for the trade... let me consider it. But I think it would be very cool to have you create the bio and battle cry for one of my scrappers (which means it will actually have to be kind of short). I will send you more information if you are interested.

    /signed

I've got 2 accounts and 7 characters that I use on an extremely regular basis, best I can figure I've petioned these dolts at leat 10 times in the last week for spamming me with tells about thier stupid site.

BTW, is there a way to global ignore someone without knowing thier global handle? o.O
I'd really love it if I could just ignore them globally instead of having to ignore 1 toon at a time on each toon I have when they seem to create/delete toons on such a frequent basis

    [/ QUOTE ]

After they send you a tell, just hit the Backspace key and then remove the comma after their name and replace the /t with /gignore and it will put them on global ignore even if you don't know their global handle.

Then after you get their global handle send your petition using that and their character name.

    Moon Hazard Zone

This has to be one of the best ideas around, and if the Devs do not use this idea (or atleast borrow just about everything from it) then I think they will have missed the boat.

It may have been said before, but if this idea were set up as the Rikti home world instead of the moon, that would fit right in with the whole invasion theme of Issue 10. Then in Issue 11 we could go get revenge by invading their planet... And if not, I am cool with going to the moon. <.< >.> :-)

I agree with those calling for the triggered raids to be one hero and one villain zone at minimum. That way there can be no complaints of bias if the random generator picks one faction over the other for a few raids in a row, and it gives each faction a shot at an invasion.

    Fairness FTW.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My friend and I were tracking where the random invasions from the Lady Gray TF took place one Saturday. And after a few hours we decided that it almost always switched sides every other TF completion. It would spawn one event in a Villain Zone and then one in a Hero Zone, and would swap back and forth each time. Only on a few rare occassions did it spawn twice on the same side. This seems to me to be pretty fair.

But, I guess it all has to do with perception, and if you are waiting for a Hero side event and it justhappens to spawn twice in a row on the Villain side, that may seem unfair... at the time.

Anyway, I am not too worried. Especially since the LGTF is actually very fun and I intend to run it off and on with the STF mixed in for flavor and SHOs.
  15. Here is my advice (take from it what you want and discard the rest):

    - Art is about expression. We all express things differently. Look inside you for what you want to express and then do your best to put it down (on canvase, paper, wood, or whatever).
    - Try something new whenever possible. If you have never painted in watercolor, take a class on it. If you have never used acrylic paints, get some basic colors and try it. If you have never used nupastel, get some and scribble away. This way you have a multitude of options and you may find a medium that fits you like a glove that you may never have tried before.
    - Learn to look very closely at objects. Learn to see the slight curves and variations in everything. Don't glance, take long involved looks (like at a lover). This will help you to understand the object and by undertsanding it you can draw it and manipulate it.
    - Study an object and draw it while looking at it. Then draw the object again from memory. Repeat until you are happy with the memory results.
    - Practice. Draw and paint whenever you have any free time. Keep a couple sketch books around for drawing and practice. Go back and look at what you have done in the past regularly to see your improvement and for inspiration.
    - Get books about art and use them for reference and practice. Practice copying some of the great masters works and reading about their style. By doing what they did you can start to get more well rounded. And they don't call them "the great masters" for nothing.
    - As you copy other works or during your practice you will begin to notice things that you like and don't like. You will notice things that you are good at and things that you struggle with. You will start to get a feel for *your* style. After you begin to get a feel for your style keep working at it to develop things that are unique to you and feel comfortable.

Art styles are not something to try and force yourself into, but rather it is the natural progression of your art. Do not try and force yourself to become a certain type of artist (unless that is really what you want to do), but rather let your experience guide you into what you are good at and feel good doing. But at the same time do not neglect other styles because being well rounded is a good thing and may actually help give direction to where you want to go with your art personally.

And good luck with it. I am still struggling with my style, but I feel that some things are slowly coming together for me.

P.S. I do not endorse people to copy and then sell works from other people. rather I suggest copying other works only for practice and to help understand how others work.

I thought this would be an appropriate thread for this heads-up...

One of my favourite DA character portraitists is considering taking commissions.

    http://fragmented---.deviantart.com/

Am I alone in drooling? Hopefully a bunch of interested people will convince her to take the plunge.

LOL, she is from the town I grew up in... that is too cool! I didn't know anything good came out of that place (except me! j/k).

But, yeah, she is dang good.
  21. Thank you! I am just glad that you like it.

And who knows, I may get ambitious again and do a follow up painting using her other costume...
  22. I had some free time so I decided to do a quick portrait of your character.

    Larissa Rasputin

I only had a few hours to work on it, but I think it turned out OK. I hope you enjoy it.
