Bear in mind that the FFG is slow, so if you're speeding around a lot you might want to give it a few seconds to catch up so you're softcapped. In my build I plan on doing a lot of toe-mining so I'm grabbing Grant Invis, both to ensure the FFG doesn't get nuked following me around and for another LotG spot.
As for end drain, I'm not sure if that is one of the things that falls under the umbrella of buff/debuff. If it does, then defender drains will be stronger due to their higher AT modifier.
PGT definitely, Caltrops maybe. PGT is a huge regen debuff so it's great vs AVs and GMs, and the hold (especially with the Lockdown proc) is great mitigation. Caltrops, ehhhh, it's alright. Nice to have if you've got the power slot for it, I didn't. It does help to keep stuff in range of your traps but its far from a make-or-break power. -
On the one hand, a double Raid sounds fantastic because my new firetraps corr needs merits, on the other this starts at 2:30am my time and I've gotta be up at 5 to go to work >.>
I could of course go to bed really early and wake up at 2, I suppose. Haha -
Yeah, if I did make an Elec/SD I'd go with Blaze. Blast to shore up the ST damage and Ball because its simply magnificent
I'll have to muck about with Mids when I get home to see what I can come up with.
So uh, who wants to finance Silas making an Elec/SD scrapper? -
There isn't any strong synergy between the two sets, but there's also nothing about either set that would make it unworkable.
Short Circuit being PBAoE could help with toe-mining spawns, I guess.
The thing to note about Elec is, its not a bad set per se, its just fairly low on damage. Traps being so offensive (y helo thar trip mine) would go some way to help this.
I would aim to get some decent defense (s/l is easy to work for with the Scorpion Shield, very easy to softcap with the FFG) so you can toe-mine in relative peace and recharge to bring your traps up faster. Also bear in mind how incredibly proc-friendly traps is (achilles and devastation procs in Mortar, devastation proc in Seekers, Lockdown proc in PGT, etc).
As for defender vs corruptor, my vote goes to the corruptor. Scourge beats Vigilance any day of the week. Short Circuit and Ball Lightning being largely DoT also works in Scourge's favour.
Hope that helps. -
I would do awful, awful things for a SS/SD scrapper.

I get what you mean now. The main villain farming map is the TV map with the wrecked city full of Nems. On that map there are fairly large spaces between spawns so dragging mobs between them would take time.
I guess on smaller heroside maps (steel canyon one for instance, that one is infamous for double aggro because of clumped spawns) its not a big deal. Having AAO maxed out is certainly a huge advantage for scrappers.
As for making an Elec/SD, I've managed to restrain myself thus far because while my resources are fairly sizeable villainside, I'm pretty broke heroside so I wouldn't be able to pimp it out as I'd like. And I wouldn't make an Elec/SD brute because the combo is just so, so much better on scrappers
Maybe closer to when GR comes out... -
Mine definitely doesn't solo like a brute.
I've never seen a brute solo GMs.
Seriously though, Sonic/Rad is incredible at soloing. Very safe and very steady. It might feel a little slow because Sonics big hitter is absolutely glacial in animating (I rarely bother with it) but I've yet to come across something I can't solo with my sonic/rad. -
t Aliana, That is exactly my point. If you're dragging stuff around to take advantage of the recharge times you are limited by the recharge times. You can be far faster around a map bound by a 5-7second recharge (FSC, Footstomp) than 2 26 second ones.
If you're dragging stuff around and waiting to use your 2 big hitters, you're wasting time. I'm not debating the ability of Elec/SD to obliterate spawns. I'm just saying, in the context of a farm (what the OP was asking about) a faster recharge, lower damage AoE is the best option.
t Windenergy21, While it is true that you're technically wasting the recharge if the power is up and you're saving it for the next spawn, if I was using the Elec/SD combo I would rather use one nuke each spawn and use other stuff (Fireball/Thunderstrike/whatever) to finish them off.
That would give you much higher constant damage (more competetive with Footstomp/FSC) as well as not being huge overkill on the minions/lts. You're also much less restricted by the recharges, as you're only waiting about 13 seconds between nukes rather than the full 26. Killing a spawn every 15-20 seconds (nuke + clean-up) is much, much better than one spawn every 30.
Edit: aaaand all this talking about it is making me want an elec/sd. Noooooo -
I think you're spot on about the playstyle thing. Spines/Fire and Spines/dark have long been lauded as the best scrapper farming builds and I've seen them do amazing things, I just couldn't get into one myself.
The way I play my spines/regen I'm bouncing around all the time to make the most of Throw Spines, so for me the added damage aura would be largely wasted.
But as you say, the differences (whatever they may be) are fairly small (unlike say fire/kin vs other controller builds for farming) and so for most people it comes down to what they like to play.
That said, I would reiterate that in terms of "best", in my experience consistent damage is better than spikes for farming. Firekins don't nuke nothin' -
Quote:Yeah, the 30 min respawn timer is the basis for downing the shields. After the 1st pylon goes down you've got 30 minutes to take out the rest of them.Ok didn't know about the 30 min respawn timer. So yes we will be moving around and will avoid the ones with the 54 EB's indeed.
As for during the event, I'd think almost all of the pylons would be fine, assuming it'll be primarily 50s competing, only the pylons in the NE corner have 54 stuff around them (iirc) and there's a fair amount of space to work in. -
Dragging mobs behind you is faffing about because unless you move really slowly, you're wasting time waiting for them to catch up before you unload your AoEs.
While I love the FFB proc, Thunderstrike has a tiny radius. If you're getting it to proc every time you're doing a lot more positioning than someone has to do to get the most out of FSC or Footstomp.
Nuking spawns every 26 seconds is great and very impressive, but over the course of a farm map, a build with a high damage AoE that is more readily available will pull ahead.
Now, if you can alternate LR and SC and use something like Fireball to finish most of them off then it might be a different matter. But if you're using both at once and dragging stuff around, you could definitely be going faster.
Elec/SD is a highly viable option for farming, but its not the best. -
Quote:Whereas someone with a more readily available AoE like FSC or Footstomp will destroy each spawn in turn rather than faffing about with dragging mobs around. What you do with Elec/Shield is you destroy one spawn, and on the next one you let loose your other AoEs (specially if you have an ancillary/patron AoE) to kill the "squishier" enemies, then simply move to the next spawn. The aggro caps will make sure the mobs you've been hitting come to you (and a few of the "new" spawn, assuming you're at +2-ish/x8), and only a few of the new spawn aggro, when they get there, you let loose the big guns, clean up, and move on in the same fashion if many mobs survived.
Works wonderfully.
No, really:
Elec/SD works great for farming, but for the best farming performance, constant high damage output > less frequent high damage spikes.
Edit: I would say FM/SD/Blaze for the best farming scrapper build. FSC and Fireball for constant damage output with Shield Charge on top as well as being highly survivable. -
You could do all of the Pylons, just have the envigilator go with each participant to their pylon.
To account for increased risk you could skip the pylons right by the base of the Mothership as those are the ones that have roaming 54 EBs and spawns by them. -

I think Kahlan and I already won that
Seriously though, that does sound cool. I know this is for villain events, but that could be a cool event for both sides to participate in. -
Sounds like the event went great
Sorry I wasn't able to attend, I had passed out by that point, heh.
-
I wasn't saying it couldn't work, just that other options were much better.
-
Elec Melee also sucks for farming because while LR is shiny and great its still on a longish recharge timer so you can't realistically use it every spawn.
Elec/SD -can- work because you can alternate LR/SC but something like Fire Melee is generally better because frequent high damage is better than infrequent very high damage. -
Cool, I'll send you a global tell when I get back from work.
-
I'm not sure I'll be able to attend because of time zone issues, but I'd be more than happy to double the prize money if you'd accept the donation, Kat

I approve of both the idea and the execution. Good show, man.

No Flashfire, no Speed Boost, no Cinders, no room on my teams.
Okay, okay, Cinders is debateable. But Flashfire is absolutely not. I also recommend all firekins who make them for farming at least have a team build with SOs or generic IOs that does have Speed Boost.
I mean, its a single power selection that works perfectly with just the base slot, adds tremendously to any team, for a build that is far from tight. But eh, whatcha gonna do.
