I've decided not to so much pay attention to the rating vs. reading the arc description. If it looks interesting I'll play it and give it a fair shot.

Some people actually design their missions to be hard, challenging, and entertaining. That what is so fraking great about this new release. People were complaining about old and blah missions and wanted something fresh. Personally, I can't remember the last time I was this excited about playing this game. I really really tip my hat to the CoH/CoV team.

Anyhoo, it's not the fault of the mission creator that there are segments of virtual wussies out there that tuck tail and run at the first sign of a challenge or hard fight. I'm finding that if a mission is really good and fun to play that word gets around. At least that's been the case for me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The problem is different people want different things.

Some people want a challenge, some people only want tickets, some want a great story.

By fufilling one its very likely you could upset the other players.

Now compound that whats challening for a fire blaster might very well be a cake walk for a plant dominator.

This is like watching an epic train wreck.
  2. And this is whats making my point.

Players should NOT, should NEVER have the ability to affect the gameplay experiance of other players like this.

And whatever my rating criteria are. it doesnt matter, its my rating criteria. As long as I dont 1 star or 5 star everyone which the devs have said is a no no, anyhting I want to do is my choice.

I think the rating system in its current state needs to go bye bye badly.
  3. [ QUOTE ]
I tend not to comment on arcs that I rate as one star, because they are so bad I don't think they could be fixed. But then again, I actually play, or attempt to play, arcs that I rate.

If you are annoyed at a low rating, the easiest thing to do is form a team, run the mission, and ask them to rate it. If it's good, the low rating will get obliterated by the new, honest ratings.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    This.. is unlikely

No one wants to team right now... rewards are way way way to surpressed for teams at the moment.
  4. Im actually thinking 5 minutes of play would be better filter than completion.

Hard missions would never get any ratings.

I know I have a list of powers that gets an automatic 1 star from me.

Any summoned pets, glue arrow, caltrops, confuse, basicly powers that really slow you the heck down really tick me off.

So no matter how good a story is any of those powers show up and its a 1.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    This.

This right here is the fundamental problem with the rating system. Some dumb-[censored] with a particular fetish for hating specific things who thinks everyone else needs to cater to his whims. Oh, and read his tiny little mind too, of course.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You do realize that everyone has their own personal tastes, bad tastes and whims.

Your surprised at this? Well the devs shouldnt be.

Now if what I said is true or not about rating like that, it would be 1000% within my rights as a player of missions to rate like this.

I could also say I will rate a 5 and missions where the mobs are clothed in polkadots.

THIS IS EXACTLY whats wrong with letting players control things...

    *Sighs*

I seem to recall a dev comment about this, is there an official stance on whether giving unwarranted poor ratings could be griefing? Are the devs interested in us reporting potential cases of this? Obviously anonymity of who's giving what ratings makes this impossible for us to be certain about.

I only ask because my first story arc (4336) received a 1 star rating (and no comment) after the first play, but is now up to 4 stars.

Of course there are other reasons for giving it 1 star, maybe they just don't like Sky Raiders. But the lack of comment made me suspicious. I'm guessing that the whole rating system has been heavily discussed including the potential for forming griefing alliances etc. Yet another form of PvP added to the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I never ever ever leave comments on arcs I rate low.

Im not taking the chance of retaliation low rates.

Just for note, ive not played your arc, but I also cant be the only person whose come to this conclusion.
  8. I think the 4 average is unfeasible.

Too many jealous, vindictive, or just their arc played are going to pile 1 stars on anyone close to going HOF.
  9. from what Ive seen, ambushes, battles seem to greatly increase ticket output
  10. you do realize its fairly easy to protect yourself from getting caught by just keeping your average, well average. high rating friends or bad arcs.

giving players power over other players has NEVER ended well in any game ever.

    3) Giant Monsters: Its very annoying to get a group of people to take out certain GM's (Lusca i.e.). Are there any plans for doling out a MINIMUM amount of merits for defeating a GM, something pleasant, yet small enough to not encourage farming (I am not including the general Monster Isle DE monsters in this suggestion,). My suggestion would be 5ish, maybe 7 for Lusca.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'm not a redname, but maybe I can take a shot at this one for you.

The merit system already has a reward for fighting GMs (note that this is only Giant Monsters, not the Monster DE) of 2 merits for anyone that would qualify for the badge.

This is posted in the Meritorious Measurement thread.

    very interested in this one.

Also, doesn't "telegraphing" the fact that TF rewards will be nerfed in the future, act as incentive for people to abuse them as much as possible, as often as possible, right out of the gate to "beat the nerfbat" to them?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Pretty much.

This is about the only game where one gets penalized for playing well.

As I've (probably) said before, the rewards will be quite freely decreased, but getting an increase is going to be like pulling a chicken's tooth out.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Pretty much, and with villians having so few TF's its going to be especially punnishing for them.
  13. If they want us to sit afk at the end of posi's and play flashgames.

    So be it.
  14. I dont see why padding out the TF timers wont work.

At the very least it will keep some of the better TF's from getting their rewards cut in half.
  15. List addition

Give em Hellion, Billie heck,3 mission, 2 merits, elite boss 3k kelvin

UberGuy, the random system is still in. You can purchase a random recipe at a level of your choosing for far less than you'll be paying for specific recipes that you're saving up for.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Just quick math here.

Your chance of getting a valuable recipe is far less than 1 in 10. While the cost of choosing is better than 1 for 10.

So it never ever pays to roll the dice.

your always better choosing your recipe whether its to make money or use yourself.

Therefore the market will likely dry up for pool C and D, while purples will greatly increase in price as people have tons of leftover inf/inf

I did the ISF the other day, the healing nictus wasn't healing itself at all, or any of the other Nicti. Considering we saw spams of over 1000 points healed per heal cycle on it, that would of easily meant any damage we did would of been nullified.

However I did notice that while the healing nictus was up, the other Nicti seemed to have an increased regen. I was too busy spamming debuffs with my Spider or else I would of actually opened up my combat window to look at this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

the nictus was definatly healing itself.
  18. not going to happen till they fix high level pvp so it isnt an auto loose for anyone with defense.

In other words either fixing villian ppp's or nerfing hero's.

They are scared of nerfing hero's and dont see the investment in villians as worth it.

I cant confirm this but i suspect the problem is all the IOP's migrate to hero's in short order.

    What server?

Any comments about the server problems over the weekend?

Any comments to those who felt locked out of the fun?
  20. [ QUOTE ]
    Huh?

It's linked directly from the Announcements page and STICKIED.

Your reality seems to be a li'l warped, there. I'd get it checked.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Like people even bother reading it.

there are almost twice as many posts on the freedom board on the locked out server, and thats on a server board which usually has very low traffic.

Every post thats been on general discussion has been locked or moved.

Just because your paranoid doesnt mean no one is following you.
  21. Im a little annoyed the mods keep trying to bury this issue on forums that are rarely read.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
Agreed x2 . Waiting on a server is an everyday thing in certain other games....

get out there, mingle on some other servers, i guarrentee you'll be able to get a great team on any of them this weekend

    [/ QUOTE ]

Most people use this to get past stuck levels, where leveling sucks.

Not powerlevel a level 1 toon.

Its essentially zero xp weekend if you dont have established characters on other servers.

Did the Devs not say something about increasing the load capacity of the servers to compensate for this?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes. We upgraded our server hardware as part of our re-investment plan for City of Heroes/Villains, but the fact of the matter is that we've actually hit a new capacity threshhold.

To be clear....There are more players on Freedom now than have ever played on that server. Ever.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And this is EXACTLY what happens with unconrolled or unmoderated server transfers.

yep, they loose their 'T's.... damn alphabet stealin server transfers....

if you remember--- i kept tellin people we were full, but would any1 listen??? nooooooo--- they told me i was being mean-- but look whose laughin now... behind the monitor... from a computer that wont run CoX .... /e cries..... /wrists
