  1. The wait to find out who the winners are, is killing me.

Although, after seeing a lot of the submissions in HyperComics, I probably have little chance of winning.

Makes me wish that there'll be Honorable Mentions, maybe 5 or 10, and give them a consolation prize like.... um.... just a yellow title.... yeah. No monetary value right?
  2. Wow, there are some cool submissions so far. I liked some of the ones listed in this thread. Kudos.

I submitted mine tonight. I did mine by publishing using PDF (I bought the full version of the software, hey I like it), and not through HyperComics, so I don't really have a link to share here.

I too had a hard time trying to create a viable story without cluttering too much into just 8 pages. In the end, I used the starting parts from a kind of fan fiction I had written previously (a pretty long one, which could fit 3 issues, argh) of my main hero.

I basically looked at the starting parts of the story (the prologue) I had written and it looked perfect to fit into 8 pages. So I went with that. Plus I added a few more story bits from the rest of the first issue in the fan fiction.

Yes, my submission ends with a "to be continued" type of scene (I wrote in "End Prologue"), since it's only the beginning of an arc.

I'm hoping the judges will look at the overall quality of the submission and the story/action that was placed in it, even though the story doesn't end in the submission.

    *crosses fingers*
  3. Hehe, thanks guys!

Damn! That's really great, Shadow! I want one of my main, now!

Hmm...how did you do the lettering and the "letter-box" thingy? Photoshop?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yup, the whole thing was done is Photoshop.
  4. Hi, this is my first time posting in this particular section of the forums.

I just wanted to share a wallpaper I made. It was originally just going to be a screenshot that people could access from my signature, but feeling a bit creative I decided to go for a wallpaper.

I had an idea or image of what I wanted and searched Paragon City for a place to get a screenshot, and ended up in Steel Canyon with its tall skyscrapers. I then spent a lot time taking different shots in different angles and different times of the day. I finally decided on one, and booted-up good ol' Photoshop.

The result is now in my signature below. It's a 1280x1024 wallpaper. What do you guys think?
  5. What I like most about this game, is character customization. From the costumes to choices of powers, choosing slots, and being able to come up with my own background for the character.

Although I voted costumes, it's not just that, it's the whole character creation and development part of the game I like the most.

But of course, I like everything listed on the poll about this game.
  6. "I9 brings with it a huge new gameplay system: Inventions. Players will be able to craft Enhancements and Costume pieces for their characters using recipes, and salvage that they find while adventuring."

He mentioned Enhancements and Costume pieces, which is all great. But I was kind of hoping to also craft my own temp powers. Like a pack of 6 Web Grenades, similar to the ones you could buy from Siren's Call. I dream of being able to consturct my own gadgets and equipment and have a utility belt of temp powers.

I was in the first 4 pics there

I'm the one with spikey white hair and red/white armour/cape.

Cool. No wonder I smelled a strong forumite nearby, you were in front of me in the line. Hehe, small world.
  8. Yup it sure was, I especially liked hunting for Jester on the hero side. I wished that they kept going with that event though. I missed some of the earlier events because of work, I especially wanted to go to the RV event, but I didn't make it. I arrived just after the CuppaClone costume contest.

I almost left about the time Manticore finished giving out the titles. I was already going through my screenshots to post in the forums. When I went back and saw Manticore no longer standing on the ramp, and was surrounded by people I went to investigate. And a few minutes later he spawned 2 Kronos Titans and what I would like to call, Manticore's madness began....

    Man, that was excellent.
  9. Here's a few of the screenshots I took. Originally these images were large like 1280x1024, but photobucket shrunk them to around 640x512. Not sure why. But here they are anyway.

During the late hours of the event.

    CuppaJo in Pocket D 7
    Closer shot of CuppaJo
Long line to Manticore in Pocket D 1
Finally at the Ramp to Manticore
After getting my yellow title from Manticore and shooting me to the floor
My brother Dyrnwyn being shot by Manticore while he says thanks for the title
Shadow-Rush with the Shadowy Detective title (I know too small)
    Lord Recluse outside the window
People looking out the window at Lord Recluse.
    More Lord Recluse

Near the end of the event, some surprises happen.

The Arachnos Flyer in Pocket D
    Fighting Black Scorpion
    Black Widow Held
Two Tyrants Just Standing in Pocket D

After the event, the madness begins.

Returning back to Pocket D 1, Manticore still giving out titles. Artic Sun beside him.
Two Kronos Titans in Pocket D
The Kronos Titans and 3 Shadow Shard AV's
    Devouring Earth monsters start appearing
Fighting alongside Statesman against the Giant Monsters
Two. Count em. TWO HAMIDONS in Pocket D!
    Winter Lord says Hi
    Jack in Irons and Eochai
Paladin being built in Pocket D! and Black Scorpion again on the side
    Fighting alongside Valkyrie against Paladin
    Long time no see, Hydra.
    Adamastor joining the chaos
    Jurassik and the Hydra, together
Swan, Ms. Lliberty, Valkyrie, and Luminary ganking villains in the Pocket D hospital
    Sister Psyche and Manticore
Manticore about to shoot a lot of arrows, and Positron airborne
Positron and Sister Psyche again. ("Dear GODS" indeed)
This time Synapse and Statesman attacking villains in their hospital
Another Hamidon appeared, but before we had a chance it popped on its own and spawned Mitos. Fun.

Hehe, overall it was an amazing experience. Probably the best event I have ever had in CoH/CoV. Good luck CuppaJo!

And devs, (especially Manticore), thank you for the title and all the monster spawns. That was the most fun I've had in any event. You guys are crazy!
  10. All this talk about "old" gamers reminded me of this quote:

"People don't stop playing games because they get old, they get old because they stop playing games."

If this is true, then I'll never get old!

One thing that sort of puzzles me, is that in the realm of consoles alot of what are termed RPGs don't actually have you playing a role, they have you controling a party. So, techincally Super Mario Brothers is an RPG (you are playing the role of a plumber thrown headlong into the magical Mushroom Kingdom), but Final Fantasy isn't. RPG seems to have come to mean 'A game where your character(s) grow(s) in power/ability throughout the course game and that growth is determined, in part, by the player'

    [/ QUOTE ]
Precisely why I dislike the FF games, and many others. If I want an RPG, I want a game where I can create/guide the development of my character and handle situations differently depending upon that development. So, to me, something like the Sims or even the career mode in a wrestling game are more RPG than Final Fantasy-style "RPGs". (I call them playable soap operas.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree. A lot of computer RPG's, mostly console ones (like the FF-style ones), tend to be more like interactive movies.

But there are a few out there that atleast let you role-play a bit, computer games like the Fallout series, Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, even a console RPG like Star Wars:KOTOR. Some of these have branching dialogues and stories, which provide a bit of role-playing and the ability to make decisions within the game.

Though of course these are not close to playing an actual pen-and-paper RPG, where what you say and do is only limited by your imagination, but in my opinion atleast these games try to give the player a semblance, though very limited, of that particular feature of role-playing.
