Pity they are just axing the system, though. Just having non-combat stats to pay attention to was a pretty big must-have from a few people, and given how much work the devs put into it, there must at least have been something viable in the meanwhile, if not perfect.
[/ QUOTE ]
I believe Jack did say that while they scrapped the system as a whole, some parts did lead to other things, like the empowerment stations and the soon-to-be inventions system. -

-The list of Tsoo bosses is the longest in the game, and some may no longer exist (and I know of nobody that has seen all of them, I have only just seen their names). They are: Dragon Fly (we all know these guys), Iron Hands (I saw a couple in Steel), Bronze Leopard (same with this one), Swift Steel (Talos is where I find these), Ice Wind (never seen one), Midnight (I think I saw this in a mission once), Death Moon (never seen him), Lightning Blade (I've seen one, but I forget where), Fire Dagger (Fire Lion is one of these, IIRC), Lost Son (I fought one random one in a mission), Death's Head (I think I saw one... maybe), Viridian Fear (dumb name, never seen one), Copper Serpent (never seen one), Far Fire (haven't met this one, either), Crescent (these guys have Grav and MA, so I'm glad to have never seen one), Herald (think Yellow Ink Man as a boss, never met one, though), and Sky Fall (Storm Summoning with a bow and katana, never seen one of these, either). All of the Tsoo had Superleap except Enforcers, but as far as I know, only Green Ink Men have it now.
[/ QUOTE ]
Having played the mid-teens to mid-twenties over a dozen times I can say that I have in fact faced every single one of those bosses at one time or another.
Did you know...The Universities in Steel Canyon and Founder's Falls were originally meant to be used as part of the SSOCS (Super Secret Out of Combat System), a way to get XP without fighting. However, this Skills system was never able to be properly implemented in a fun way, so it was placed on the back burner until more important matters could be taken care of or a fresh new way to do it could be thought up. -
[ QUOTE ]
...after this PLing opportunity went away, people found a "glowie mission" that gave XP to every team member regardless of whether they were in the mission at the time or not? This led to Phase Shifters of any levels to be in high demand. I believe the XP was about 500/per glowie, regardless of level.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually what made it such a nasty exploit was that the xp scaled to your level, so a level 25 hero would gain much more xp then a level 5 hero, but both were about the same percentage of xp compared to what they needed to next level. -
[ QUOTE ]
In this theory if you went back and tried to kill your grandfather then reality would stop you. Or it wouldn't and the whole time line would collaspe.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you went back in time and killed your grandfather then you have to become your own grandfather...c'mon they taught us that in Futurama! -
[ QUOTE ]
I think this wanders back to the problem of narrowly defining Origins, though. My Magic scrapper's an archeologist who found a suit of magic armor. He doesn't know John Dee from Jan and Dean. His idea of an invocation is playing a Led Zepplin album backwards. He doesn't know squat about brewing potions or scrying stones.
[/ QUOTE ]
So couldn't he just as easily "find" instead of "invent" the new whachamabob that you made using the "Invention" system? All it takes is a little bit of a different view of it, or a slightly different RP. -
[ QUOTE ]
The problem is inventions fit one particular concept very well (tech) and suck for the rest. This will be great for 1-2 of my alts, but meaningless to the rest, and like many, I am all about concept.
[/ QUOTE ]
broaden your imagination if you're so much about concept.
As a natural arigin character I could invent gadgets or new training techniques that give me abilities I did not have before.
As a magic origin I might invent an artifact that triples my endurance for a short time, or a potion that can turn me invisible.
As a mutant, I'm certain there could be great advances with inventions that tap into my genetic code or further mutate myself.
Of course Science and Tech are the easiset ones to think of when you hear "Inventions" but I think it could easily be adapted to all the origins. -
[ QUOTE ]
Some examples,
- "Keep an eye out for Henri Dumont somewhere in Port Recluse. I hear he really has a vendetta against Scrapyarders." Each unlockable contact can be pointed to by a normal contact, who tells you the neighborhood and a second hint to unlock them.
- "I see you did a good job taking down those pirates! If you're curious about them, I've marked your map with the locations of some related tourist spots." and that puts waypoints to all the plaques for one badge.
- "I'm sure the city would do something great to reward any hero who cleans up after the Kraken." This alerts players that there's a giant monster badge.
- "so-and-so was looking for heroes for a very important mission." and refer to the Trial contacts, who are never as obvious as the TF contacts. Though the TF/SF contacts could maybe be added here, too.
- remind people to go back for their cape mission, or go to the tailor to unlock a new costume slot.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think this is an excellent idea!
PM the rednames immediately! -
[ QUOTE ]
Bingo- Sure, up their difficulty if you must, but make sure there is an actual incentive to fight them repeatedly, so that people who already have the badge from the Giant Monster will still help the people who don't have one yet.
[/ QUOTE ]
heck, add in another badge too...like the X times the victor badge, have one that changes to show how many Giant Monster's you've defeated. Or make a few badges so you get one for 5 monsters, 10 monsters, etc. That's extra incentive right there to take them on whenever I see them.
e can wait on the artwork, just plop the "exploration" graphic on their and give it a nifty description like:
Monster Hunter Apprentice - You have taken down 5 of the Giant Monsters that sometimes plague Paragon City
or
City Savior - You've defeated 20 Giant Monsters in your career, Tokyo officials have your number on speed dial. -
[ QUOTE ]
Let's not forget they also said there were technical issues for why they couldn't release a stand alone character creator....*looks on Korean CoH info sites*....ummm...yeeaahh...
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually Cuppa said there were LEGAL issues about the character creator and that those legal issues may be resolved enough now to allow them to create an English version of the character creator standalone.
[ QUOTE ]
Also going back to people talking about issues with a trainer seeing hero or villain an getting mixed up...If a flippin locked box or cauldron can see the difference between a hero and a villain why not a trainer??
[/ QUOTE ]
well if you are the Codemaster: Master of the Codeverse, then by all means let us know how easy it would be. Me however, I know nothing about code or programming, so when the guy who built the game tells me "it'll be technically hard to do" I'm going to trust his judgement on that. -
photoshop for teh win! er...at least for a little more uniqueness.
-
you wake up at 12:40 EST? You sir are either living on the west coast or are a lucky [Censored]!

*looks at LadySin's avatar*
I didn't know you cared!
as for mine, it's simple, yet holiday appropriate I think. -
For those wanting kilts, weren't formal kilts worn as the skirt and a chest piece much like the top of a toga that matched. I swear in Braveheart they had that on shoulder thing jusat like a Toga. Make it green and you're good to go...all they have to do now is allow you to make it plaid.

It's no weirded then when in the decades past, grown adults get together to play cards, or go bowling, or do crafts together. it's the same thing. A hobby with friends.
[/ QUOTE ]
CoH/V is cheaper than my other hobbies as well. I might spend 15 dollars a week on comics. If I lose at my weekly poker game (which thankfully isnt that often) thats 40 bucks a month. Dinner and movie with the wife? Talking at least 60-70 dollars.
Hours of entertainment, really small pricetag. I'll take it. -
Happy Birthday Generic_OoT!

He wasn't a troll...he was like an early Pilcrow...

He was a little like Pilcrow and Craban (in logic mode) crossbred...so yeah he was scary sometimes, lol. -
Cynical_Daria and Primal's avatars look similar...

No wonder all the guys say she's their favorite, she's a cutie. And here I thought it was all about her avatar.
-
good luck...I think people have been asking Cuppa what she really looks like since she started here...I think she's a little too afraid of certain forum members to reveal her true identity (even in just a photo).
The others though...anyone tried a google search (I can't...rassum frassum firewall)? I mean they've made convention appearances right? -
I'm not sure about Skills, it sounds like a huge massive undertaking, a whole new game almost, to be able to have a big enough variety of skills to satisfy people yet have all of them actually be able to be used in gaining xp or helping complete missions, gain missions, etc...it makes my head spin thinking about it, I'm not surprised it's gotten tabled twice.
As for crafting, we have all the elements needed (salvage as "loot", workbenches, and recipies) all they need to do is:
1. give access to slavage and workbenches to those not in a SG, or in a SG with no base.
2. allow more "personal" items to be crafted, such as enhancements, costume pieces, etc. -
The great thing about City oif Heroes and Villains is that, other than Giant Monsters, all the other content is available to all at any time. This is why the current crafting system works so well for bases.
Need Hellion Salvage? Well piece of cake, they're are tons of them everywhere and I could even run a few missions against them to boot. I don't have to go wait for that one bad guy to spawn in that one spot and hope I can do enough damage before the uber-guy who's been there since 3 am the day the info got posted nabs it first for him and his friends.
If they continue to use salvage, and simply let you turn it into other objects besides base material, I think they could have a very successful crafting system.
Why couldn't I turn a few of those Hellion tattoos into a new "Crown of Flame" costume piece? Maybe that Tsoo salvage will allow me to create the long dress-like robes the Sorcs wear for my character. Maybe I can use that Arachnos tech salvage to not only make a base computer, but a "tech origin" DO or SO of my choice. Have it be done on the same workbenches you already have in bases, and for those not in SGs, have a "Freedom Corps Inventech Base" where anyone can go and use worktables to convert their own salvage into stuff.
This would require you to be able to acquire salvage outside of SG mode, but I doubt that would be that big of a problem. -
If I was going to do this I think I would go for total randomness and randomize slotting as well...but I'm just evil and sick that way.
I may just have to make a toon like this next to Scrapital Punishment over on Champion. -
[ QUOTE ]
Also, I'd like to inform you that your streakbreaker code is broken. I had at least a 5-or-6-miss string today against an orange Wyvern lieutenant. I went in order down my tray, Mental Blast, Levitate, Mind Probe, TK Thrust, Dominate, Mesmerize. Miss, miss, miss, miss, miss. Nothing would hit him; I think I got up to Mesmerize before anything landed. I am quite certain my accuracy against +1 lieutenants, even with mere training enhancements, is not 30-40%.
[/ QUOTE ]
It is possible that the streakbreaker could be wonky, but its also possible that the Lt. was using some sort of power (toggle or inherent) to give him greater defense against psionics or just ranged attacks in general. -
Was my initial thought as well...if he didn't create them then they're certainly patterned after him...perhaps they're his goupies.
