If the ally betrays, would another ally pick up the Designated Helper role? And if the Designated Helper ally dies, would another ally pick up the DH role?

Good to know!
Time to fix a few arcs next weekend then. -
I will probably place some characters in the vigilante/rogue area and maybe make a complete switch for one or two temporarily, for some variation in content.
Of my 10 level 50s I have 8 villains and 2 heroes. One hero will likely move one from blue-side to red-side, a couple of the others might be placed in between. For those below level 50 it remains to be seen.
Temporary moves, that will definitely happen a few times - permanent moves, more likely to red-side than blue-side. -
I assume that GR will be around for more than a few days, so no reason to take time off just because it is released - it will still be there.

I recently posted my arc The Soul Hunter (294431) on the mission review site. If you can add it to the review queue it would be appreciated.
It is exactly one year since it was published today and I noticed that it has received its first rating now, so I am happy for any feedback I can get. -
You are correct, patrol XP is not used within AE, other than to cover XP debt.

I generally do not hide. I am quite ok teaming up with PUGs, as long as people do not send blind invites and they are not farming.
Thus I typically put a "no blind invites, no farming" in my search text. Also, if I am working on an MA arc I change status to "not looking for team".
This generally has worked well for me. -
Quote:All the regular critters have specific smaller level ranges for a reason - you cannot do a "one size fits all" here.Thats the real challenge with custom critters; how to design ones that are challenging for as wide of a range of characters as possible. The arc in my sig is one that I am still perfecting. Just recently it was changed to level 22-54. I would prefer it was possible for all levels of play, but there was just no way to make it satisfactory for pre-SO levels.
As Eva said, it would be nice to be able to set level ranges for individual custom critters. Or be able to set multiple power selections for a critter, each with a separate level range.
Separate level ranges for critters themselves would be more consistent with the regular critters though. If the costume parts could be set up to be shared between critters it would also save some space. -
Tip missions are part of Issue 18, at least as a way to deliver new missions. So you could get those anywhere. But presumably you will need GR to actually get the ones that will affect your morality.

I have the same issue for a while, but unfortunately I cannot tell whether it was since a specific game patch or an update of the Nvidia driver.
I do not recall exactly when I got the issue, but I have had it for a few weeks at least. -
You might try adding an additional custom one of each type and/or be explicit about the regular Council ones that are part of the group, rather than using a "random Council minion" option, which I assume is what you use now?

Swedish and English are the only ones I would consider myself fluent in.
I have started to learn a number of other languages, but most of it has either been forgotten or I never learned that much to start with: Russian, Spanish, French, Finnish, Japanese, Korean and Esperanto. -
I looked through my list of arcs I have played and found:
One Million Eyes
ID: 71933
Author: @minimalist
Levels: 40-54
I am a bit surprised that this arc only has 4 stars nowadays, it is a brilliant piece.
Of Futures Past
ID: 254599
Author: @Lazarus
Levels: 40-54
Picked this one a couple of weeks ago from the announcement thread. Funny and nice story involving time travel.
And for a plug of my own arcs:
The Missing Geneticist
ID: 2542
Levels: 12-19 -
Right after I17 was released I went through all of my arcs and changed all custom critters to have a custom power selection where they reached 100%, at least somewhere in the middle of the level range.
I have lowered it a bit in some cases afterwards (thanks for your feedback, Rigel_Kent), but that is more closer to 70-80% than go all down to 40%.
I do not think that one should stare blindly at the percentage though - the combinations of powersets can cause troubles perhaps more than a certain percentage of powers from a powerset.
A problem with pre-I17 arcs was that there was not so much room for custom mobs, so the variation of mobs was limited. And with limited variation one may end up with some bad situations. I have played arcs where _all_ minions had powers that stunned, or dark powers or some other thing that was quite bad when multiplied.
With larger size for arcs it is at least possible to provide more variation in power combinations from minions and LTs, which I think can be helpful. -
Adding "SFMA" as a keyword in search narrows down a bit also.
When I search on my level, not completed, not voted, LFF+Final and SFMA I usually only get a few pages, enough to quickly look through descriptions of them and pick one.
Other times I add to search only on unrated arcs, possibly dropping SFMA and look through some descriptions and pick one pretty much at random that has some pretty coherent description and is not a 1-54 arc. -
Quote:One tip here, at lower levels do not attempt missions with level 1-54 that use custom mobs. If you look at normal mobs you will see that there is no single mob that has a comparable range - they all have smaller ranges. A villain group as a whole may cover the whole range, but you would not fight exactly the same mobs at level 5 as at level 50 - completely different mobs.but most missions are just plain old too difficult to even attempt at lower~mid levels. I was trying one mission today where it was a 1-54 mission that claimed it has bosses in it, whatever.
Arc authors need to do the same considerations, but may not always do that and then you end up with a situation like you described. -
No, it will keep the same arc ID and ratings. If you unpublish it, you will lose ratings and the arc ID.
-
Quote:A far too common problem unfortunately. There are almost 21000 unrated arcs, some almost as old as MA itself. I have one that is over 10 months old myself.I published my first story a little over a month ago and got no takers.
I quite liked the arc, good story and nicely paced. The last mission was a bump up in difficulty due to the LTs. For the psychic barriers, I think adding the word "all" in the objective will give a hint of what that is all about, without being too explicit in the description.
I thought also that there could perhaps be a few more variations of the cultists also.
But overall a very good arc I think. -
Quote:It is not about workarounds; it is about designing the game so that people who legitimately want to make good arcs can do so while at the same time trying to avoid opening up for exploitation of the system.I'm arguing that custom mobs shouldn't be more difficult than standard ones by default. If players need to know specific work arounds to make mobs they can face in groups of more than 1 or 2 at a time there's something wrong here.
The default setting for powers is "standard" and that is somewhat close to normal mobs in terms of how powerful they are - the XP is worse though. This varies though with levels, as Eva said. Lower levels can still be tough.
In order to make custom mobs vastly overpowered to regular mobs the arc designer has made a decision to make them harder and/or not limit the possible level range that is set for the arc. And harder is both the powers selected for each mob as well as the combination of powers from multiple mobs.
He/she can also decide to make a balanced and suitable power usage for the level range the arc is aiming at. Also, custom groups can be made with a new combination of standard characters, or a mix of standard characters and custom characters - there are lots of options.
But it will require testing for sure to get a good mix, preferably with different team/character/difficulty combinations.
Many arcs, especially in the beginning of MA, were created with the author just playing around with the system and perhaps creating as powerful mobs as he/she could. Many of these arcs are still around, cluttering the system.
I avoid certain arcs with custom mobs myself, but I do not avoid all of them. A few rules of thumb I use:
* Avoid arcs with custom mobs which have a level range of 1-54 or similar (I tend to avoid 5-50 etc also)
* Avoid arcs with custom mobs if there are warnings for extreme mobs (bosses, elite bosses, arch-villains)
* Only look at arcs that have status "Looking for feedback" or "Final".
* If the description of the arc is just a short sentence like "can u beat the mighty Konrad" or something like that I also tend to avoid it. -
Compare NCSoft Q1 report for 2010 with the Q1 report for 2010. They earned about twice as much in Korean Won a year ago from CoX.
That level of income was fairly close as I recall to what they reported back in those days when they still included subscriber numbers for CoX in the reports, which was somewhere in 110K-120K range at that time. -
Quote:One approach would be to give the stars a weight based on time also. E.g. stars given in the last 3 months gives full value, starts from 3-6 months have a slightly lower weight for each star etc.I think this idea is good with one exception. All arcs published before I15, a large number of which are long abandoned, would be listed before newer arcs. There are 1000's of them. The numbers are so crazy that there even is an arc rated 2 stars with over 100 plays.
That kind of data might not have been tracked though; i.e. at what time was each rating given.
Or perhaps include a thumbs up/down rating in addition to the star sum, or perhaps just an optional thums up - "I would recommend this arc". People could give thumbs up if they liked it and then set as many or few stars as they wanted. -
On the subject of level range search:
1. Include a tolerance setting for "my level" search, which will widen the search. E.g. if I am at level 20 and my tolerance is set to +-5, then I searches would also hit arcs whose max level is in 15-19 range and whose min level is in 21-25 range.
2. Include a max level range setting. If I set it to 40, I would get a hit on a 10-50 arc, but would filter out a 1-54, or 5-54 arc.
Other features:
1. Include a last modified date in addition to creation date as viewable and sortable option.
2. Show, at least to author, the number of times an arc has been played/completed.
3. Make a distinction in arc view between pure custom mob groups, mixed custom/standard mob groups (max 50% custom mobs) and groups created just from standard mobs.
