Quote:I wasn't really considering PBAoEs as melee, but if you're offering those, fine. I still think they could do better for people who actually want to punch or kick or headbutt people with fire or ice or whatever.Brimstone, Eruption, Earth Splitter and Fury of the Dragon. I was thinking of Burning Chi Fist and Dragon Uppercut as well, but I misremembered the additional damage type.
And Pyre is essentially a better version of Combustion from Tanker's Fire Melee.
Edit: Earth Splitter is a sneaky ranged attack in a melee set. -

Wow, it's like Sam started an argument and then with this post, entered a completely different argument that no one was having. Bravo.
Last I checked, people were complaining not about animations lacking fire effects, but the lack of melee powers that did fire damage. Good attempt, though, at trying to confuse the issue. -
Their stock has been declining all month too. It's not as bad as it was in August, but there's a definite downhill slope from a peak.

Quote:Godwinned! Thread is over.Sounds a bit familiar.
Here is Pastor Martin Niemöller's poem as it was originally written in German, then as it was translated into English.
Als die Nazis die Kommunisten holten,
habe ich geschwiegen;
ich war ja kein Kommunist.
Als sie die Sozialdemokraten einsperrten,
habe ich geschwiegen;
ich war ja kein Sozialdemokrat.
Als sie die Gewerkschafter holten,
habe ich nicht protestiert;
ich war ja kein Gewerkschafter.
Als sie mich holten,
gab es keinen mehr, der protestieren konnte.
-----------------------------------------------------
When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
after all I was not a communist.
When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
after all I was not a social democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
after all I was not a trade unionist.
When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.
---------------------
There have been several variants of this over the years, but the core idea is the same.
Also, that poem could be argued the other way around too. -
As I pointed out earlier, the economic crisis and the release of Champions Online were both going on that year. It seems reasonable to conclude those factored significantly into the Great Decline. It seems some people are just bringing back their ax to grind with AE again.
And I also knew no one that left because of AE.
I generally avoided it myself, though, as it was generally hard to find a legitimate story arc rather than a farm, so I pretty much played through dev-created content as I was still new to the game at the time anyway. I had started playing during Issue 13. -

Well let's see, like someone pointed out already, the economy went down the crapper. Also, wasn't 2009 the year that Champions Online came out?
-
What's sad is that they didn't even give it until 13.0.0.0.0, which means we'll have nothing to play when the world blows up like in that movie.

Quote:Yeah, I was really looking forward to that secondary.
When it launched, Champions had Dual Pistols Powers, and City of heroes didn't. City of Heroes closed that gap with the Dual Pistols Set. Champions allowed people to use dual pistols and martial arts together, and City of Heroes closed that gap with...... aw man... -

Quote:From what I can gather, Dark Melee was based on the concept of energy draining touches of undead creatures from earlier games like AD&D. Nothing "silly" about that.For another thing, a lot of City of Heroes' melee sets made almost no sense to me. I've gone over how silly I found the concept of "punching with darkness" and so on.
Quote:To a large extent, City of Heroes has trained us - trained ME - to look at super powers and costumes only a certain way. -
I'm not arguing God had anything to do with anything. I'm an atheist, after all.

Quote:But any good detective would be a fool not to put it together.This never happened. As has been pointed out, it's a false correlation. B&S has been coming to the states for a while.
Correlation != Causation

Let me put this even more slowly.
There are myriad reasons CoH was given the "Old Yeller". Ascribing it to any singular cause (as you are doing) is simply scapegoating.
Sorry, but what you're doing is trying to oversimplify a complex issue.
Quote:It isn't that simple. And the people at NCSoft aren't stupid. -
Quote:Yeah, that is definitely the shirt. It isn't even the same shade as her face.The adult art looks good and I *might* have tried the game based on that, but this
Little kid, bare midriff with top barely covering the absolute minimum and cute little animal ears?
Yeah, soft core kiddie porn. No way in hell. -

We'll just see how those numbers keep going after the CoH fallout settles.
-
Quote:Well, they're about to have another, because I doubt that they're going to get the droves that they're expecting for GW2 and B&S (neither look like anything like a WoW-killer), especially after alienating CoH's playerbase.They mentioned B&S coming to NA and EU in their investors reports for at least a year now, it's not a surprise it was a given.
I think a better guess would be which current MMO in their stable isn't popular in their primary markets and is not a sword/sorcery fantasy MMO? I can also believe NCSoft placing their moneys on Carbine/WildStar as a game that'll appeal to western and eastern markets than low revenue generating superhero game that appeals only in NA.
And they only lost $6 million US, 6 billion KrW, but the key issue was it was the companies first negative quarter ever. -
Quote:You're ascribing too much competency to these people, which is your problem. This is a company that managed to lose $6B because of overspending on the two Korean grinders we're speaking of.and nothing about a MUCH higher profile game being released earlier in the week with a gigantic marketing budget? or a very large purchase of a rival games publisher that was a large up front cost.or a soft market for a heavily promoted other fantasy title? none of that is wearing a blue sailor suit with a speech impediment, harassing a wabbit or transforming into a mech at the sound of the word "blathersmithe"? I can at least admit that I do not and will not know or be able to fully understand all the financial factors going into the decision, it is a specialized field I am not trained in. but if we are making wildly uneducated guesses, there are bigger and more obvious targets targets than a niche martial arts title being marketed in the land of the three color first person shooter
This is not only a duck, but it's a mentally deficient duck. -
Quote:Let me put this slowly.When the financial dealings of multimillion dollar softwre corporations are as easy to spot as the defining characteristics of a duck, that would be relevant. And I'd wonder how many zoologists would be impressed with the average person's capacity to determine duck-like behavior.
1. NCSoft abruptly axes CoH and Paragon Studios
2. Explains decision as "realignment" of "publishing support."
3. Two weeks later, B&S announcement.
So let's see, we passed the appearance, the swimming, and the quacking. It's official, this duck is a duck. -
Quote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duck_testActually I had assumed that they realigned the monetary resources they had tied up in coh, which net them a modest but fairly flat profit in heavier marketing and other technical resources for guild wars 2, which has the potential to net them a higher reward given the massive hype for the game(mostly deserved, it is good) or, more likely, the reorganization refers to a host of business decisions, including both gw2, trying to promote aion more effectively, and promoting blade and soul, as well as other things we wont know about for some time, or internal things dealing with recent acquisitions that will only be understood by, and wont bore into a coma, people directly in the finance field. correlation is nice an all, but I dont think anyone needs to remind you of its relation to actual causation.
If anything, I'd expect that of the recent news we have heard from ncsoft, blade and soul is the least of the reasons anything happened, I doubt anyone in ncsoft expects america to get a sizable population for a eastern themed martial arts game with art designs by a guy who did some niche rpgs. outside of myself and a small number of other American anime/kung-fu nerds i expect even the most optimistic plans set it at niche in the west.
