Quote:Spectral Daemon Lords. Madness Mages. Gardvords. Vahzilok. Frickin' Minions of Igneous. Y'mean that sort of easy? Why should my lowbies put up with Praetoria, when they can get regular content which is much easier -
Quote:A level 19 'troller, EB Vanessa DeVore and about nine Fauxnessas: that one instance was enough to put me off Praetoria forever.
Purples, eat more of them. Or call in a friend.
Hell, Frostfire is more frustrating than she is, as he spawns in that stupid room filled with ice, another boss, and couple lieutenants and minions. At least the faux Vanessas have the decency to die quickly and not slide all over the damn room. -
Quote:Waaait... people still think Praetoria is hard?QR: those screenies look nice. Now just pop the fog back in there, and we'll be good.
I have a funny feeling that the NPCs in here are going to be the level 50 version of what's going on now in Praetoria, so most people will still be running trials - soloing will be seriously painful, like it is now in Praetoria. Therefore I have a feeling that after a spurt of "let's check this out!", the zone will still be mostly empty. -
Quote:Damn it, you guys! I had finally successfully purged all knowledge of that thing from my mind and now you put it right back in there! AGH! HATEHATEHATE! It's the Voyager series finale all over again!Folks are already ticked off about the gambling/addictive aspect of this as it is. Throwing badgers into the mix is just asking for trouble.

Does the character in question have Mace Mastery? If so, then that's your problem.

Quote:Darth Vader also has an opinion on this.To recap for those who aren't aware: Coming up in Issue 22 (? that was the impression I got) in the Paragon Market, CCG-style Super Packs, containing 5 random items. Mostly consumables, there will also be a chance to get some stuff limited to Super Packs, like pieces of a new costume set, as well as the Archetype IOs we've seen some stuff about. These packs are said to be on the inexpensive side, but no approximate price point was given (considering how ludicrously expensive the Wolf and German Shepherd pets are, one does have to wonder how they're defining "inexpensive").
How may I put this?

It would be one thing if the costume pieces you could get were ones already available in the store. Say, the Barbarian Belt, or CoT gloves. Same with the Archetype IOs. But to limit them to a random roll is a godawful idea. Please don't let this go live.
Yay, verily, this idea doth SUCK! -
Quote:You said, "I feel like I had been eating Corn Flakes for 20 years, and one day... "
directly comparing your experience of eating cereal to the experience of playing games.
One is the same every time.
One is different every time.
Comparing the two, or even your experience relative to the two, is like comparing two things that are opposite! Because it IS comparing two things that are opposite! -

Yeah, Saga Edition and 4e made me die a little inside. Talk about the most bland, dumbed down system imaginable. If they thought that would bring in girls just because it was "math light," then it's clear that the guys at WotC are sexist pigs. Being female doesn't mean being "dumber."

Quote:No.One thought that might be interesting is to play on our desire for a solo path by making a SOLO ONLY path to contrast with the team only path.
In my mind I imagined it might be cool if we got special Ouroboros arcs that basically let us live out various moments in the lives of existing Incarnates.
An arc dedicated to learning what was the turning point in Tyrant's life where he accepted that people could never be trusted, an arc where Statesman gave up and resigned himself to his present state, where Lord Recluse first learned that one day the Well may consume him, where Stheno rises to power and founds the Snakes, Trapdoor's Escape, or Hero 1's discovery of Excalibur.
Possibly even delve into Incarnates of the past, such as Gilgamesh or Cu Chulainn? (Assuming either one are, Gilgamesh is strongly implied to have possibly been the first Incarnate according to the Lore)
Of course, other ideas mentioned are much better but I'd hope that if they're going to shove the Incarnate lore path down our throats we could at least learn more about what the hell these guys are.
I play this game to play my characters, not someone else's. -
Quote:This, mixed with ordinary contacts with story arcs.I'm expecting something structured like the Tip System ...
1) Threads will drop during these missions
2) Completing each mission will award you an Astral merit, maximum of 5 per 24-hour period
3) Instead of an Alignment Mission after 10 of them, we'll get an Empyrian Merit and a random drop from the Incarnate Salvage Table (or a choice between them).
I'd be happy with that. -
Quote:I don't think anyone (aside from Venture, who is Venture after all) said making comics more appealing to females would "ruin" them. In fact, comics are already "ruined" all by themselves by the fact that they're attached to a stigma that assumes only little boys and nerdy losers read them. Interestingly enough, this is also true about role-playing games and it's really hard to find a female who's legitimately interested in something like D&D. I've met them, so they exist, but as I established, society at large assumes that reading comics will make you into a loser and thus should be shunned. In fact, this fear of comic books being "ruined" by making them more appealing to women because women don't read comic books and would want something completely different is a lot like the belief that women don't play video games and to make video games appeal to women, they'd have to be My Little Pony Online or Hello Kitty Online, because women obviously don't like "male games." Yet here we are, playing an online game that is pretty much all about punching other people in the face and earning points for it... And we have an enormous female presence. Clearly, both the men and women who play City of Heroes like some of the same things. Right?
I'm all for adding more female friendly comics, but the trick is to get them interested and snap out of that societal assumption that comics will destroy their social life. -

Quote:Unfortunately, as stated earlier, female superheroes don't sell as well. (Although, I'm a bit curious as to the real reason why. Surely the more hormonal male readers like to look at boobs?) So it seems unlikely that more female heroes are unlikely to be created when that's just not where the money is.No one to my understanding is saying that fridging is the only reason that girls don't like comics.
No one to my understanding is saying that make characters don't suffer vile fates in comics.
What I am saying is that (to make up a statistic) for every 100 guys that like comics, there are 10 girls:
Looking just at the JLA as an example, the guys have several role models, styles, and icons to look at and build a connection to: Superman, Batman, Green Lantern (who is sometimes black), the Flash, the Atom, even Aquaman and the Martian Manhunter (who sometimes pretends to be black).
Girls have Wonder Woman.
Sure you can expand the roster by tossing in Black Canary and others, but then you still end up with 4x as many guy heroes.
So if you fridge half of the guys, there are still plenty of unfridged heroes for the guys to cater to. If you fridge Wonder Woman, you are now out of female heroes, and theoretically out of potential female readers.
Naturally, this is a big exaggeration, but I think it illustrates the point.
If anything, IMHO, it means that there should be more female superheroes created in the first place.
In the end, I think BrandX hit the real nail on the head when she said "comics are for little boys" concerning what people actually think of them, regardless of gender or lack of it. -
Quote:And yet 3 shows true for male superheroes as well. So it's clear "fridging" is not the reason girls don't like comics. Debunked. Unless you want to claim that only male characters are allowed to have bad things happen to them. That was not Gail's point.
Her point was (if I may do my own bit of interpreting and paraphrasing):
1: In general, girls don't like superhero comics.
2: This is partly because there are not a lot of prominent, admirable girl superheroes.
3: The girl superheroes that are around tend to die in particularly gruesome or unheroic ways.
4: Go to 1: above. -

While I bought the dog, I'm hoping for a cat sometime in the future. Cats are just sheer awesome, you know.
-
Who the hell even wears facial hair like that anymore?
-
Hm, a fair point. That didn't stop him from going out any less a punk and winding up in a Klingon fridge.
-
Boy howdy, I'm surprised that wasn't even on the TVTropes page. That was definite fridging. He was introduced just to die in a very chumpy way and motivate Kirk.
-
I don't really care who dies. None of the Freedom Phalanx/Surviving 8/Vindicators are characters. They're all cardboard standies lacking characterization.
-
Quote:Well, as the TVTropes page points out, both MacGyver and Walker, Texas Ranger would stuff an "old friend" character into the fridge just about every episode. I doubt they were all women. Both Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Alias, and Nikita also apparently had men stuffed in fridges. 300 has a whole village, the Godfather had both a woman and a horse, Tombstone has a male dying this way, and Roadhouse has a couple of other dudes dying this way. Maximus's family in Gladiator. The villain in Punisher's (the movie) motivation is his son's fridging. No, I'm perfectly willing to be objective. Bring something up that you want to discuss. Go ahead. I'm all ears.
I'm just going up and down the page randomly picking these out. It's very clear to me that fridging is hardly exclusive to females. -

And you say we move around the goal post. So does this argument center around comics or all media? Because at this point, you've pretty much stopped making sense.
