Quote:Ah, just a lucky coincidence in the timing then. None of my accounts could log in; after a couple attempts i go to account management and reset passwords, then i could log in again. You didn't have to; I didn't.
I assumed I couldn't log in because they were moving the account server for the game or something, since no-one at all seemed to be posting anything for a good chunk of today.

...but the remember me button is borked.
But yeah, the "Remember me" button no worky. -
Depends on how excitable/calm/ADHD the original poster is.
The calmer types use a period.
The really excitable types use multiple exclamation points.
The really laid back say "screw punctuation" and just title it something like "I21 Mids".
...
Early next week for Mids' is great news.
Maybe you should remind Diellan that release announcements are supposed to use exclamation points. Y'know, just in case they forget and punctuate like they're being a calm adult. -
As of this morning i couldn't log into the forums with any of my accounts. Again.
Changing my game account password to what it already was fixed it. Again.
i keep on clicking the "Remember me" button on the login screen even though it appears to actually do nothing now. Before the whole Freedom theme was added to the forums whenever i went to the forums after starting up my PC i would generally be logged in even if the odds were pretty good that i would have to log in again in the next couple of hours. Ever since the last round of forum tweaks i have had to log into the forums every single time.
Having to reset the password yet again was a bonus. -
Quote:Check your enhancement tray. If you have enough tiers unlocked you automatically get a set of special enhancements on new characters. They enhance both recharge and damage to approximately DO levels as well as having procs that work until the character hits 22 or so.So there I was in AP, I just leveled my new /time character to 21 when I got an announcement that "an enhancement has been awarded".
Nothing had been added to any of my inventories, so I wonder, was that a bug, or something that just "randomly" popped up.
When it occurred, the graphics for it were like when you hit a new level (eg, giant yellow text that shrinked towards the level number).
I'll check my powers later just in case 'something' got added, but it was just a weird event that caught my eye since none of my previous characters had ever had that happen to them (pre-i21). -
Quote:IIRC Domination doesn't do that on its own. Instead all powers affected by Domination have the additional mezzes added to them which are then triggered by Domination being active. The Devs have to go in and code Domination effects into each power. To use the same approach for Regen the Devs would have to code every single critter power to check if the target has the debuff resisting power active and then apply... yeah, pretty sure that functionality is not in the game either.I was thinking of domination. It adds a version of the original power when it is active, but with a different magnitude and duration.
This is a very different application (targetted on self rather than enemy, and reactive rather than baked into the power/attack), but similar concept.
Edit: I in no way shape or form pretend to think this would be an easy application. Just that something vaguely similar does seem to exist. -
Quote:On the bright side Facebook has added a bunch of new features. Most of the recent new 'features' are either the equivalent of Clippy or are actually the removal of widely used features in an apparent bid to make Facebook less useful. i've certainly been using it less.Bloody hell....the facebook page again? Why the heck do they not post that crap here on the forums! Way to treat your forum community well paragon.

Quote:i actually bought a bunch of extra points recently. Then this promotion came out. A small fraction of the points i currently have to get it.At this rate, we'll see how quickly longtime VIP subscribers burn through their summer accumulation of Paragon Points. Once that happens, expect a lot more irritable posts about what 600 points gets players.
Yeah, no.
As Zortel said:Quote:The price is not right. The price is too damn high. $7.50 for a low-res, single gender only costume with some transparency. A costume that was made back in 2007. A thing that is just a little cheaper than a -brand new- power set, that's also a permament global unlock for that account.
It's just ridiculous. Would you honestly pay for that? Would you pay 600 points for that costume when for 640 you could get Beam Rifle? Or for 800 two bundles of costume parts rather than a single power that does -nothing- and isn't customizable? -
-
Quote:So... pay 600 points for a costume power, or use a costume slot to make a pirate costume that isn't a clone of everyone else's for free... tough choice.Quote:/nod
Yeah, if this is the best price that Paragon can come up with....sheesh.
i'd rather see shoulder parrots added than buy the costume code. i've made better pirates than that costume (IMHO of course), so the only thing that costume has over my own costumes is the bird. A shoulder parrot/bird i'd buy, but even for that i wouldn't pay 600 points. At 600 points you might as well be flipping that pirate's bird at me. -
Quote:Would it be possible to implement the non-DE version of Granite as an alternate animation/effect, or does it have to be one or the other? In other news, I expressed on the last Ustream marathon that I believed Granite Armor could be made customizable. I'll be devoting some of my free time to exploring this possibility. The trade-off would be that the Devouring Earth model is done away with, and replaced with a more generic-looking model that is placed over the character's body, similar to the rest of the Stone Armor powers.
I'd like to hear your thoughts on this trade-off. Thanks to those who have already posted their opinions!
i'd prefer a more generic version that doesn't completely replace the costume, but i can understand the point of view of the players who like the current version. i've known several players who used the current version of Granite Armor to make characters who would transform from a petite character into hulking masses of rock and i can understand them not wanting to lose that ability. -
Hmm, time to see if Staph Fighter is available. i'm thinking a crimefighting robot that was originally a nanobot used to combat infections. Or just someone who uses bacteria as his metaphor for criminals. (Ala Marshal Law.)

No idea what the padlocks mean either.
i think it's time for another game of "Ask a Dev What These New Icons Are Supposed To Tell Us". -

*wheeze*
Okay, i'm done.
To be fair, the original UniqueDragon post was many years ago and not everyone has read it any more than everyone knows where "Go. Hunt. Kill Skuls." comes from.
We are at war with jerk hacking, we have always been at war with jerk hacking. -
Quote:Nice. Ad hominem attacks on anyone who gets into the numbers side of the game more than you do. Real classy there. Although it does suit your writing style, so there is that. You know...i've stopped asking myself that same question...i tend to make characters myself, and really couldn't care less about numbers...only thing i ask is...don't rub it in my face that i have an actual life outside the game that i have to pay attention to every now and then...it would seem that besides numbers...the other thing they are really intimate with is how mom's basement apartment looks...my bad, i meant..."man cave"
Incidentally, would Arcanaville's lair be a "woman cave"? What about all the min/maxing players who also have a spouse and two or three kids? i bet those basements get pretty crowded, eh?
Moving on...
Personally i'm more of casual numbers cruncher. i don't min/max for every last % and i don't record my play sessions and run a statistical analysis to determine the exact values. i'm very grateful to people like Arcanaville and Iakona and all the rest who've done the heavy lifting for me since i do enjoy trying to make characters who are good at soloing and very good at doing what they do.
Thing is, i don't feel i have to be able to solo everything in the game or have complete mastery of the markets. Luckily none of that is really needed and we have one of the most helpful player bases i've ever seen in any game, both on the forums and in the game. There are always people willing to help out. (We also have some idiots and trolls, but that's life everywhere.) -
Quote:Unless they've changed it since beta there are a few areas on the paths where enemies tend to spawn in aggro range, even to the point of being right on the path, especially near the First Ward entrance.Perhaps they really are just paths without enemies... and to emphasize that they added the nifty transition effects and coloring. Could be they were mostly wanting to show off a new system they had been working on (possibly in prelude to bigger and larger things).
The paths are neat looking and fairly handy, but not really safe. -
Quote:Several episodes of the animated series had Uhura saving the day, she even had command of the ship at one point. It took several seasons of TNG before a woman was put in charge of the Enterprise. The show was goofy but it pushed boundaries just like original Trek.Quote:My favorite episode was the Slaver Weapon one. If you watch it now as a jaded adult, its kind of simplistic. But if you're watching it as a not-so-jaded seven year old (I think that's how old I was when I first saw it) Spock's speech at the end makes you go "oh...OHHH!"
UHURA: We can't let them have that weapon.
SPOCK: They are not about to get it, Lieutenant.
UHURA: Why not?
SPOCK: Assume you are a Slaver war computer. You've been turned off. You do not know for how long. But when you were turned off, there was a war on. Now you are awakened by aliens you never saw before. They do not know any of the military passwords. They ask you so many questions it is obvious they know little about you. Your owner is nowhere about. What would you think?
UHURA: I'd think I'd been captured by the enemy. Or an enemy, at least.
SULU: And when they ask you how to find your most powerful weapon setting, what would you give them?
Quote:Yeah, but it also means you don't have to use Sauder furniture any more either. Might be worth it.
Anyway, the manager decided that since i was so good with computers and hardware the logical thing to do was promote me to Furniture Lead. Y'know, since selling, assembling, and doing inventory of mostly particle
board office furniture was the logical step up from working with computers.
Quote:The Slaver Weapon was written by Larry Niven. Introducing the Kzinti to the ST universe. They were then taken and seriously warped in Star Fleet Battles. The designers kept insisting that the animated stuff wasn't canon in their universe but never did explain how they got to use the Kzinti without including The Slaver Weapon.
I believe my geek is showing. Excuse me. -

Quote:Actually it had 40 levels at launch, but you're right in that it was designed to have 50 levels.CoH had 50 levels the day it launched. It was designed from day 1 to have 50 levels. Level 50 was always intended to be the top level in the game.
Tacking more regular levels on top of the current levels would break the game in a number of ways since the powers system works differently than most other MMOs.
The Incarnate system's use of a secondary progression tree is a good workaround.
Quote:One of the requirements of "Challenge" is that the sub-optimal are excluded from the content because the optimal can't afford to carry them and still succeed at the "challenge". The greater the "challenge", the more narrow the optimal range becomes and the more the suboptimal are excluded by necessity (assuming the league wishes to succeed). -

Quote:i agree. Combat rezzes, especially those for melee ATs, should all have an untouchable period.I agree that there could be some untouchable period on Revive. When I first picked up Stygian Return on my WS, I though "wow, ok - this is a solid rez power." Then I took Restore Essence on my PB and was reminded "oh right - same old crappy Revive" when I died again mid-animation.
If there aren't any major balance reasons behind why there isn't an untouchable period, I'd like to see one added to both the Regen and PB versions. Heck, if it's fair for Freaks to be untouchable now, why not us, right? -
Quote:i see basic IOs on the market all the time.Haven't found any basic IOs on the market. Sometimes recipes, but I dislike crafting/inventing. *shrugs*
Also, when i get the salvage and recipe drops to make a basic IO i will do so. If it's not an IO i need i dump it on the market for 5 inf or so.
The market does not have to be time-consuming if you have any patience. Maybe 5 minutes a play session, if that, and you can get IOs. Put stuff on the market that you want to sell and bid on the things you want. You frequently can bid as low as half the going price and get the item you want if you just leave the bid up and go play the game. Note that if you don't leave a bid up for at least a day or two you aren't actually serious about buying anything at a good price.
Then you just need to check your bids and put a few more items on the market every so often. Every so often could be just after logging on or before logging off every play session, or it could be after every couple of missions, whatever you want.
Quote:Besides, money's tight. If I turn into a Preemie, I'd rather my characters keep their potency. -
i have a 6950 and had no luck keeping the game stable with the 11.7 and 11.8 drivers, but i've only had the rare (even rarer since i21 launched) client freeze after i rolled back to 11.4.

i remember hearing about a superhero MMO being in development around.... i don't know, 2001 i guess. At that point the website only had a few (very different from those in launch) enemy group descriptions and some info about different origins and how it would affect powers. Probably well before archetypes were in the works.
My only experience with MMOs in 2001 was friends who played Everquest/Evercrack, which had the usual MMO conventions on movement and interaction so i was dubious about how a superhero MMO would work. Also MUDs, MUCKs, and MUSHes, but those weren't exactly modern MMOs.
i used to look at the website every so often, but by 2002 or so i'd pretty much stopped paying attention to the site. When i heard about being released in 2004 i was surprised and somewhat excited. Some friends were playing it and i picked up a copy in early June 2004 to try it out. Hooked ever since.
