i either stick random junk in tray 4 or nova/dwarf powers if playing a Kheld for my form switching binds, but then i generally have trays 8 and 9 stacked to the left of my three standard trays for utility powers, macros and other things not often used in combat.

Quote:Uh, the only time origin had any meaning was long before the public beta*, so which players are you referring to?There was a time in this game origen ment something, but people complained and bonuses were removed. Now it's an artifact and seems to serve no other purpose than to help role-play relative to the players' notions.
*IIRC origins having any real significance was in something like the alpha phase where most powers hadn't even been created, and it was removed when the whole archetype structure was implemented. -
i see nothing wrong with asking. i also see nothing wrong with replying 'no' in response or not even replying at all.
Personally, when i ask about builds i start by posting my build and asking for suggestions. Generally my post also states what i'm trying to do with the build. Cue discussion.
Also: i enjoy the intarnetzes. -
Quote:As far as i know no one has, and i lack the inclination to do it myself. So on all my DM toons the only thing I really use Fluffy for is the tohit debuff. I'll 3 slot it and be done. But now I'm lvling up a Dark/Ice and I was thinking about putting damage procs in fluffy. My biggest question is about the tohit debuff set procs (cloud senses). Since all of his attacks have a tohit debuff will it always have a chance to fire off? Anyone ever look into this? Thanks in advance
Generally procs only have a triggering check for pet powers that would accept the proc if they were taken by a player. (Hold damage procs only check when Fluffy uses Petrifying Gaze, for example.) Cloud Senses is an 'accurate tohit debuff' set, but several of Fluffy's debuffs don't use a tohit check and/or are not available to players at all, so it would require actually running a lot of testing to determine that.
However, i do have a full set of Cloud Senses in one of my Fluffies for the set bonuses. That, and the hope that the proc is firing on the powers that it works in for players. Anything more is a bonus. -
A True Neutral person has two faces- either these people are merely apathetic, preferring to focus their minds on more important things, or these people truly believe in a balance of all things. To these people, there can be no light without some darkness. These people also have no dedication to, or intrinsic distrust of, laws.
True Neutral
70% Chaotic Evil
65% Neutral Good
60% Lawful Evil
60% Chaotic Good
55% Lawful Good
45% Neutral Evil
45% Lawful Neutral
30% Chaotic Neutral

The results would probably be different if i retake it tomorrow. Also, like most tests, some of the questions don't have a relevant answer because the question states assumptions that don't apply. -
This is one of the things that tends to give Ultimo_ a bad reputation and attract flames to his threads: stating things that are not only very wrong, but things he can easily test for himself...
Quote:There are almost no bosses that can't be sent flying with FB. Actually, none come to mind offhand, but there may be one or two somewhere that are mobile and unaffected by it. As already mentioned, you can even slot it to reach mag 50 KB; enough to knock even most AV's and EB's on their tuckuses. i've used FB to keep many bosses almost permanently out of fights. And that's just with a single accuracy enhancer. As I said in my OP, Force Bolt is of limited use, as it only affects Lts and Minions reliably. Even then, it misses periodically, only affects one target and uses more endurance than a toggle since it's an attack. Relying on it as a defense is unwise and relatively ineffective.
Quote:PFF is a strange one, and I often wonder what it's doing at Tier 1. As you say, it's a good emergency button, but even it is of limited use against AVs or EBs (or even just regular bosses) who often have better than 20% chances to hit you right through it. Well, there are Malta Gunslingers and Rulaaru eyeballs, but other than that i can't think of anything that would even come close to 20% without outside assistance. But then this bizarre misunderstanding of Ultimo_'s regarding PFF and defense in general was covered in his thread about how his FF/Energy Def couldn't defeat anything without running out of endurance and/or getting killed a number of months back. Then again, the actual numbers for PFF were covered in an earlier post here.
He made the same sort of assertions about how PFF offered little defense against enemies even though it's easy to check that in game just by looking at combat logs or the power numbers when in use. i even took up the challenge, leveled up a FF/Energy Defender to the same level as his in a few hours, took on the same AE arc as him and had no issues at all. All solo. That was even while deliberately handicapping myself with regards to slotting to make sure i didn't have an unfair advantage by spending 15 minutes in WW to get the funding for DO's. (My early missions with heroes i tend to focus on fighting Hellions and CoT so that i can get salvage drops that when sold on the market easily cover standard enhancement costs.)
The problem with making exaggerated, inaccurate and downright false claims about how powers work in the AT forums is that many of the people who read and post in here know better. Yet Ultimo_ does it again and again. Even when i agree with his general position i have difficulty supporting Ultimo_'s arguments because they nearly always are filled with inaccuracies and distortions. And even after it's been explained in exhaustive detail he'll come back and post the same assertions a few months later.
FWIW, i would like to see FF become my useful solo and offensively. There have been many suggestions made in previous threads on this very topic that were based in actual numbers and accurate game mechanics. i'm not sure why Ultimo_ doesn't revive or copy from one of those threads instead of making threads that are just wrong in many of their assumptions. FF could use a boost, but it's more likely to get it from the efforts of advocates who know how the set works in actual play. -

Once you can use SO's Swift unslotted and Fly with one slot added should hit the speed cap. Most builds can spare one slot.

Quote:By the same token if you stick a 12 year old junior hockey team in the same rink as a top NHL team that then plays all out the odds are that the junior team won't learn all that much compared to playing against another junior team or a mixed team of pros and newbies.I've got to disagree here. I like the fact that many PvP'ers are purpled out and hard to fight. It means I MUST become better to enjoy it.
Put it this way....say you're learning to play as a goalie in hockey. If everyone takes it easy on you improvement will not happen. The challenge is the main thing.
When I PvP I don't care if I win or lose, although I will try to win. It's fun all the way.
If a 2 week old PvP SG accepts a challenge from an established SG, you;ve got to expect a difference in skill levels, builds and IOs.
A new MLB or NHL team doesn't get to play the weakest teams in the league so they can get used to it. Step into the majors and either play like a major leaguer or learn to. If you get schooled, make notes on where your weaknesses are then hit Mids' or the arena and work on it.
I don't think it helps to call someone a bully simply cause they win at PvP. That monster winner was a PvP noob at some point and learned.
Every bruise my toons get helps teach me to break bones more effectively next time.
Even more so if the junior team hasn't even played hockey before. Hell, they aren't even familiar with professional rules and equipment. Sure, they've watched hockey videos, skated around and hit the puck on a pond near home while wearing normal winter clothing, but they don't normally have enough people to make a full team, much less two, and now they're up against a pro team in full gear playing like it's for the cup. The odds are they won't learn very much while on the ice other than what it feels like to be repeatedly slammed around and lose without scoring anything.
Now the most dedicated member of the junior team who really wants to learn professional hockey will persevere and come back for more games and take the slamming again and again until they improve, but the rest generally will just be left feeling like they have no chance at winning against professional hockey players and go play sports they feel they can win.
Most new PvP'ers have less experience with PvP's differences from PvE than the average hockey fan has with professional hockey. Those with a strong interest will persist and get better while accepting that they're going to get beaten down again and again, but the casual player who was interested but unsure will get discouraged when their team does nothing but get defeated without scoring once.
i can understand skilled PvP'ers not wanting to slow themselves down by teaming with newbs who have no clue what's going on, but simply pounding them flat with an optimised, experienced team when they do show up only sends the message that PvP is a game that only the most committed should try. This is good if you're trying to find candidates with a similar level of dedication, but absolute crap if the idea was to interest more casual players. -
Quote:Except that all his points related to things found in the empathy set, so it's foolish to imply that his post was saying that Empathy sucks unless you weren't paying attention to what the set is capable of doing. Healing is not useless, but it is less than half of what the set does, and that's including the rez on the healing side of divide. Without the rez included only 1/3 of the powers are heals. The rest is boost teammate survival and offense powers. Empathy only sucks if you limit your use of it to about 1/3 of the powers in the set.And if the blaster is a lunatic, and you have to heal them for 10x their HP bar, you've made them ten times as tough.
Or if you have a tank who already has 90% resistance and you've put Fortitude on him and he STILL is going to die, suddenly healing looks more useful.
Your points are all good, but let's not make it sound like the empathy set sucks. I have multiple defenders and controllers at level 50 and one of them is empathy. It's a fun set to play, just like the others.
Every time i see an empath with naught but 3 healing powers from the set and the Medicine pool i have the fleeting wish to be able to smack them on the back of the head over the internet. Then i move on and leave them behind. -
It's also somewhat off base if he actually bothered to read the thread. Not that the OP didn't have any points, but the way he reacted to any response in the discussion that wasn't total agreement with his assertions made Zub's reply actually rather accurate.

Quote:Gotta go with Dispari here. Not to mention that the Devs have specifically stated that that's how it's supposed to work. Oddly enough, if they say that's how it was designed and intended, i usually believe them. i'm funny like that.Sprint gives +50% run speed, +10% jump height, and +0% jump speed. NR gives +140% run speed, +695% jump height, and +136.95% jump speed. You really think the contributions of these two powers is comparable enough that NR should stack with everything in the way Sprint does?
I don't think NR's "best execution" is as a "sprint-type power" when it gives almost three times the run speed, 65x the jump height, and +136.95% jump speed when Sprint gives none.
Sprint is an exception because its contributions are minimal. -

Quote:In my opinion UberGuy's post sums up how support characters should be played. i have many Defenders, a couple of which are thoroughly IO'ed out. None of them are healers, and all of them have a heavily used secondary. They fight on teams or solo, and their function is to weaken their foes and boost their allies. Most have heals, but those are usually incidental, or used to patch up the occasional damage spike that gets past the buffs and debuffs. (Admittedly i have no high level empaths, but i love teaming with the occasional empath who realizes their set has more than three powers. Any set that can turn my character into a nigh-unstoppable engine of destruction is always welcomed.Defenders, Controllers and Corruptors are some of the most powerful characters in the game for empowering teams, enabling some of the most incredible feats from teams that have them along. It's just that healing powers are not the primary means by which those ATs achieve those heights. Buffs and debuffs are their core strengths. Heals are for the stuff that gets past all that.
)
i agree that it sounds like the OP has been mostly on min-maxed teams that cherry pick their opponents for ease of defeat. My personal preference is missions with Carnies, Circle of Thorns, Malta and Arachnos, but many players avoid them for some reason. i find them far more interesting and challenging than something like Freaks or Council, but YMMV.
Also, can someone clarify what some of the acronyms the OP used mean? Some of them resemble ones used in this game, but based on context i suspect they have a different meaning wherever he learned them (WoW?) than they do here. -

Quote:Which is why even more of us would like to see AE added to Pocket D.Except you are hurting the only place you can currently use for cross faction teaming below level 35.
i don't actually care all that much if they add level restrictions to RWZ again, though i would be fine with it, but i really would like to see AE in the D. -
Quote:i'm guessing we'll be able to earn accolades by fulfilling the requirements of whichever faction we're a member of and that once it's unlocked it doesn't matter if we fulfill the unlock conditions twice, we'll already have the accolade. Sort of how the game announces that we've unlocked EATS every time we hit 50.I believe devs confirmed we won't be able to double-up on accolades. So a few questions remain unanswered: Can we "mix and match" accolades, like getting Born in Battle, Atlas Medallion, Demonic Aura, with Geas? Or does side-switching entirely wipe our accolades and we have to earn the accolades for that side?
Of course i don't know this for certain. It's possible even the Devs don't at this moment. -
Quote:This is pretty much my approach. i tend to actively seek out missions against CoT, so the Axe can be quite useful, especially since most of my alts end up with tohit buffs or defense debuffs.I take it fairly often with the third VR choice as the 2nd ranged attack doesn't do particularly good damage. As I rarely need to use that 3rd choice, I take it whenever the 2nd ranged attack doesn't work thematically (I always take Sands of Mu first).
Occasionally my melee-heavy alts take the second of the ranged vet reward options instead of the axe if i really want more ranged options. Dark Melee types almost always skip SoM, of course. -
Quote:i have a Night Widow alt who relied on CJ+Swift+Hurdle for most travel at least partially due to concept. While much more Gatchaman or Casshern than Naruto inspired, the concept was traveling by anime-style ninja-leaping. NR is the perfect power for her, but now i think i will change my slotting. With just the assorted movement boosts and Combat Jumping it's very hard to land on small ledges because the slightest key tap while airborne is a big shift on position. With NR now giving the travel speed i want i think i'll take a slot out of Hurdle or use an alternate slotting for some of the movement bonus sets so that i can actually aim for ledges again and not overshoot constantly. You CAN opt to rely on NR instead of taking a normal travel power, but it's weaker. It's a tradeoff, not a pure advantage.
A pity that none of the costume pieces in the set fit the character's look, but Ninja Run is perfect. -
Even a few too many for a blade.
i wish i knew what part of DPS he still doesn't understand. To me it all seems pretty straightforward, so i keep getting the feeling there's something i'm not seeing. Something that isn't obvious and logical when you finally notice it. -

Very, very awesome.
i am, of course, expecting* that you will release some even better videos when GR Beta makes access to the new visuals available.
