Quote:It would be neat if they added Incarnate as an origin that is available to all non-epic ATs because then the incarnate origin would require a new set of origin type enhancements. Incarnates are really just more powerful versions of the AT they represent. Statesman is a very powerful tanker. Incarnate Enhancements could be more powerful versions of the ones we get now. Of course as a trade off Incarnate origin characters should not be able to slot Inventions.
Just a quick idea. No real fleshing out or heavy duty thinking involved.
I like this idea actually. Give them an "Incarnate Ancillary Pool Power" (ie with a special sig power) too and they could get really good. Maybe let them use TOs and then Incarnate Origins and Hamidon Origins...
good call! -
Quote:Yeah, Scarlet, but it got scrapped for the very reason that it was broken. CO implemented it, though...and see where that ended up, with melee characters being of no use and tank mages being prollific.
Rikti AT, though? /signed
Never really got into CO, I tried on their free weekend and the game was broke, so I figured it was like kismet or something, so hard to make a comparison that's meaningful.
I hear what you say about tank mages and that's where balance would need to come in but to an extent they exist in game already with the proliferation of Fire/kins and similar. -
I've got a thugs/poison MM that's at 50 now and I'm frankly struggling with him. I struggled most of the way to 50 if I'm honest and I only stuck wtih it through sheer bloody-mindedness. My experience seems to be at odds with the general nature of threads in here, where many rave about the greatness of that combo.
I've not omitted anything from my build that I'm aware of, and granted I've not got millions of of inf to spend on purpling him up but frankly I'm just not getting it. He seems to be incredibly squishy, heavy on endurance and not very hard hitting. In short, the best way to describe him is "disappointing."
I am not a great player of MMs. This is my first of any significance and I'm struggling with him. I must admit he's not my main so maybe doesn't get the play and input they need, but that's kind of a vicious circle, because he's not that good he doesn't get played that much.
I've tried a number of builds, some recommended, some not - mostly SO'd out with a view to IO sets but I'm still not finding anything that even feels pretty good, which is frustrating.
I don't think it's "me" given that whilst I appreciate MMs require a knack to play I've not had problems to this extent with other ATs, and I've read a fair bit on the subject. Just not getting very far.
any help, advice, input etc welcome. I'd be very glad to know what some of the more experienced MM players think.

Quote:You missed the DOOOOOOOOOOM! off the end of that hehe
Oh I didn't notice that! And I almost didnt post it because I didn't want to nit pick that much but the eternal pessimist in me won through
It is an important point however. It does demonstrate that there's far less focus on the EU than on the NA part of the game. -

This is PURE SPECULATION but here's a thing I've been considering for a while that I thought I'd share.
We know there have been some vague hints at epics at the End Game content, nothing tangible at all.
But we also know that the existing Epic ATs, HEATS and VEATS will be unlockable at 20 with I17.
That got me thinking along a certain path, and then reading this got me thinking more:
Quote:That's taken from here: http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/gam..._overview.htmlExperience: You can now handpick the powers for custom enemies and still receive experience for them (within game balance limits).
So here's my thought in a nutshell;
New "End Game" epics will be characters who may have any powerset combination available - thus enabling people to finally build that Blapper, Blanker or Trapper that they've always wanted to make. You could potentially choose your power sets from any pool and mix it with any other so effectively making a unique character, given the choices available.
Imagine this: Choosing a blasting power at level 1, a debuff at level 2 and a tank defence at lvl 4 for example. How about this: Maybe you'll be able to make yourself a toon with great defence, great debuffs and just one or two attacks! Imagine a Sonic Bubbler with Nova!
The possibilities are endless, and would give rise to new power set combos like dual pistols and broadswords for the ultimate blapper, and it seems to me that this is a direction in which the game is moving. Whether existing characters could (or would want) to change in that manner is debateable - and balance is going to be key to make this successful, but it does seem that it's an original concept that the Dev team are slowly revisiting, step by step. -

Very pleased to see this especially:
Quote:But these are fantastic:Positron Task Force Update: This Task Force has been split into two halves and dramatically upgraded and updated to ramp up the fun. The final battle of the Task Force takes place in the Faultline Dam and incorporates the new Dark Mirror enemy.
Quote:Quality of Life Improvements Craftable Temporary Powers: You will now have a much cleaner and more consistent way of finding and crafting temporary powers.
Increased Mission Count: You can now have seven active missions (previously three).
Show Last Objective: This UI improvement lets you find your last objective on a mission map, making it easier to find something you've missed.
Auction House: The UI gives you new options for sorting search results, your Auction House inventory is now separated by clearly marked tabs based on the item's status, the Auction House text entry box now autocompletes, and a single click on a recipe displays all salvage needed for that recipe.
In-Game E-mail: You can now use in-game e-mails to send Influence/Infamy to your own characters or to other players' characters via in-game e-mails. (You still cannot send Influence, Infamy, or items from a Hero to a Villain or vice versa.) -

haha sorry bud missed that - but proof that great minds and all that ;-) -
I notice that even if I select English as the only language it's not filtering out French and German posts.

Here's another reason for wanting the game on physical media that nobody's really mentioned: It's a very useful form of back up. If you are unlucky enough to suffer a catastrophic hard disk crash then you would likely have to download pretty well 4 years of additional content, since the GvE issue covers up to I6 IIRC.
That's a good reason to own the game on a disk. Yes, there are plenty of other ways to back up but not all are practical and none are quite so easy. I'd go so far as suggesting that if the box were to be shipped into the EU with something like a badge and/or costume pack unique to the box with the entire game on it, almost every EU subscriber with more than a 6th month Vet Reward would pick it up.
That's money for old rope. Srsly -
Quote:Hi all,
I just wanted to let you know that we've definitely heard you and we have forwarded your concerns to the right people. I know this is probably not what a lot of you want to hear at this time but we are not ignoring you.
Thanks for your patience with this.
Thanks for acknowledging and responding to this thread Avatea. -
Quote:Whereas if you lose money from simply distributing the product, then you face an even bigger issue.
Your argument doesn't hold water for the following reasons:
1) The actual production costs of a box, a disk and artwork will be minimally extra compared to the production cost of the NA box. Distribution costs won't be significantly higher than any similar product. Clearly NCSoft have a marketing and distribution network extant in the EU because they have other product on the shelves right now.
2) The revenue model of the City Of franchise is one of subscription. Therefore they only need to cover one month on a new box. Arguably the box itself could well be a loss leader - one 6 month subscription will pay for 5 boxes that don't last one month, so assuming that there's an even relatively low percentage take up, it's a win for NCSoft.
Given that the majority of the cost of the product development has been paid for in developing it for the North American market (only slight changes need be made for box design etc) it makes very little sense not to ship the product to the EU.
The GvE edition seemed to sell well in the EU - and given that the EU servers have been running for a well over four years, there's clearly a market for it here. This is not a strategic business decision from NCSoft but it smacks more of a backroom political decision aligned to the effective closure of the Brighton offices. -

Quote:Tv ads are just not viable for a game as 'small' as this one. Period. As much as I loathe the absence of any effort on NCSoft's side, you have to stay realistic.
I don't think too many here would seriously expect a TV advert - that would be a serious financial investment from NCSoft that would be hard to justify.
But having made such an investment of time and capital in the GR expansion then not making it as accessible to as many people as possible seems pretty dumb.
What we're talking about here isn't rocket science. It's basic marketing, it's what you learn almost first day on the job: doesn't matter how good your product is, nobody's going to buy it if it's not accessible. -
Quote:You're factually incorrect in a couple of areas. The thing a lot of people don't seem to realise it is the retailers who decide what to stock on their shelves, not NCSoft.
The reason NCSoft are not producing boxes in the EU is that none of the EU retailers will stock them. There is no point in printing a load of disks and boxes if they are just going to sit in a warehouse somewhere.
And, as it has already been pointed out, buying a disk is fast becoming obselecent anyway. Give it two or three more years and you will only be able to get games by download.
Sure, nobody forces retailers to stock specific product but very often the distributor will offer incentives that will encourage trade. This can be very varied, and can involve signage, bulk discounts, grab-backs on units sold and will generally involve a big promotion in the relevant industry trade press. Most retailers will want to get a good deal on stocking the lastest new shiny because that will encourage people into their premises - traffic is valuable.
Games will never be only available by download. Just as predictions that the CD-Rom would kill off the soft back book have proven false, so your claim is specious. People enjoy collecting those leisure items and people such as the games audience enjoy the extras that come with the boxes, be it a map, a badge, teeshirt or whatever it may be. So long as there are people, there will be physical product.
