I suspect if they do merge accounts NCSoft would have to take some kind of revenue 'hit' to be consistent in price, not easy to implement in a global economy.

Doubt it. Before there were EU servers that situation existed and didn't seem to be a problem.
  3. Free server transfers would kill the EU servers quicker than a new upcoming superhero game offering 6 months free gameplay.

Any potential list merge would need to be handled way more sensitively than that.

Besides who wants to be a god in one day anyway.

    Well said!

  7. The only difference we should notice at this stage is an improvement in performance in the UK.

It may be different for French and German players but the connection between the UK & US is often better than the one we have to the servers now.

So far there has been no announcement regarding merging lists and I don't expect we'll be getting anything soon - so in effect we'll experience a few hours down time and then hopefully less lag.

It seems like the EU guys are really happy about this, but from an IT perspective it sounds pretty dumb, why not just give 'em the whole steak rather than a bone and let 'em access the US servers if'n they want? I'll even go so far as to say EU account holders could have exclusive access to the EU servers.

For me, Superheroes have always been about multiculturalism, so seeing a German, French, or UK SGs running around on my server would be a wonderful thing.

    This.

I'm reserving judgement - moving the servers to anywhere other than where they are currently is a good start. Moving them to the US makes economic sense too.

However, that's only half the job done. Let's hope we get universal access to all servers and rather sooner than "Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon™"

oh sure that must be it. Stupid me for thinking that discussing parenting issues in a games forum is slightly odd

Seriously... I know it's nice for proud parents to witter on endlessly about their offspring as though they are the only human beings who ever went through any kind of development process but what the hell does this thread have to do with CoH?

Seriously we can't talk about video games but parenting is ok?

    HELLO!!!!!!!!!

I have about 5 more seconds to add onto it, we recorded a 'dry run' which is what that video is, just to make sure the film would actually play through the projectors. It worked, but I had to do some wonky things with the projector system to make it work correctly. Once I finish it I'll probably repost the entire video (which by that time, will be closer to 30 seconds in length)

Its something my friend has always talked about, and something I wanted to do in his honor, and I'm glad you all have enjoyed it as much as he would've.

Ah that makes much more sense and makes the tribute much more real to me. A real labour of love
    Thanks
  13. if I'm honest I'm not totally sure what I just watched but it's a nice tribute to a friend Thanks for sharing

It's a nice punny construction though, so I'll probably use it when the situation calls for "wife aggro."

The British media dubbed them WAGs as a kind of generic female accompaniment. The term you refer to is deemed highly racist in the UK - and would be unacceptable.

Quite why this is here I'm not sure tho.

    Irony Much?

Well I'm less bothered about the referral credit but let's face it the whole system is borked and it becomes pointlessly over complex.

My friend is still ticked off because she's had so many problems buying 2 items, the game itself and then a booster.

I notice that the thread by The Ocho is like six weeks old now... and surely accepting money should be a business' first priority, so that's an exceedingly poor show that it's not been fixed. It tells me that NCSoft generally have a huge problem with their web process and procedure.

    Irony Much?

    How's this for irony?

Some of you already know there's quite a healthy little City of Heroes community within other games. There's around 20 members in our little group and we cover both sides of the Atlantic – and that in itself is ironic enough, given that I have to use a different medium to communicate with a player of the same game because he or she happens to play on a different cluster.

So we often talk about the game and we've introduced a few new subscribers over time – I think there are about 4 confirmed continuing subs introduced via this group in the last 6 months or so. Nothing ground-breaking but a cool little community where we chat about our latest 50s, share the odd pic of costumes and discuss the merits of various builds, powers and A.T.'s

Obviously being in a wider environment we often get to chatting with people who haven't played the game. So one of our little group decides she'd like to play the game – she's in Las Vegas but decided she'd like to join my team, which meant she'd have to play on the EU servers. In and of itself not a problem, after all it's the internet and that's global. So I send her a trial code via the referral system.

She downloads the game, logs in and loves it. Has so much fun that she signs up for six months within a week of starting to play the game. It's here that the problems start. Firstly she has all kinds of trouble actually subscribing. Her card is denied a couple of times and she gets a suspected fraud warning when all she is trying to do is subscribe to the game.

She enlists some GM help and they are helpful and friendly and get her set up. She has no problem now. Except that she wants the Ninja Run Power – and she still hasn't been able to buy that booster – the GM's seem to be unable to help in this instance and at the time of writing it's still unresolved, but the bottom line is there's a customer wants to spend REAL MONEY and is being seriously thwarted.

I'm also noticing that I'm not getting the credit for the referral. I'm simply getting a GM response pointing me at the “refer a friend” link on the web site. So I've done what I'm meant to do, my friend did what they are meant to do, we have 2 customers trying very hard to pay money and have a fun experience and it's actually quite shocking at how difficult that is proving to be.

I have no doubt that were my friend in Vegas to have paid for a US version of the game she'd have had far fewer problems – but then she and I wouldn't be able to team together, which then defeats the object and diminishes the experience for both of us.

Now, clearly there's a few problems here. Normally I'd say “sign up to the forums and see if you can get any other player advice.” Except that frankly these forums are so borked both in terms of rules and regulations and technically I'm not going to tell my friend, who's already pretty ticked off with the broken websites of NCSoft to do something that's gonna piss her off even more.

Put it another way Paragon Studios: If you'd had the troubles my friend has had, and then got spontaneously logged out of a forum whilst trying to explain that, would you carry on with this game?

In closing I'll post one final thought: Over the last six months or so I've been watching the NCSoft Share Price. It goes from strength to strength with a line that moves up and to the right contunually. Not bad during a global recession. But I just wonder this; do the NCSoft shareholders know how bloody difficult it is for customers to buy their product?

I throw City Traveller in there just because it's so much of a game changer - both in freeing up a power pick for many characters (a lot more of my characters would have Flight if they didn't have to get Hover or Air Superiority first) and for making the early parts of the game less tedious by allowing quicker travel sooner; however, the devs have taken steps to alleviate its effects, first with the Natural Pack (and Ninja Run,) then with Issue 18/Going Rogue and the flight speed boost, and coming soon with Issue 19 and Inherent Fitness. All those do a lot to make City Traveller less extreme of a bonus, but when I started this campaign none of these steps had been taken yet, and it's still a principle I disagree with.

Now that fitness is going to be inherent you could take either or both and still have a shiny new power so there is no problem with taking flight

Frankly most people complaining about cossie options sound like spoiled children whining "want it nao" ad infinitum.

I agree. For all his faults (and I often think he gets a bit of a bad press here) he did have the biggest hand in making this game which we love come into being - so for that alone he needs a lot of credit.

I tend to think he's right that now we have a lot of games out there that have reached a level of maturity that no new game can compete with from the outset. Even NCSoft have found that with Tablula Rasa... years in development and tits up after a year.

New games need to be very special and have a clear idea of their destiny prior to launch - and I suspect most don't have that kind of goal. It's much more often a case of "let's throw it out there and see how long it lasts."

The reason I see this as an advantage is that someone will sell that recipe, and thus everyone has a chance to have these items, if they pay the market value. Would that satisfy some of those against the costume vet awards?

People would create toons, flood the market with Vet reward recipes, delete toons and rinse and repeat.

The world and its dog would have Vet Reward items rendering the system pointless
