I'd guess at around 9am their time. They are either 7 or 8 hours behind GMT (the clocks going back on Saturday confuses me) so around 16:00 to 17:00 GMT I'd guess.

You do. We don't (I'm in Europe, as is Blue Rabbit). Hence the confusion

There's about a week where we end up either 7 or 9 hours separated until both sides set their clocks back.*

*scratches head as to the logic in this*

So one half of the earth stays the same while the other half "stops" for an hour?

@Damz Find me on the global channel Union Chat. One of the best "chat channels" ingame!

...

Yes, Damz. That's exactly what happens, Damz.

Try not to worry about it bud, just go have another beer.

No, UTC stays the same whereever you are (UTC is basically GMT with a less imperialist name ). However the locally adjusted time may differ in whatever way the inhabitants have decided upon.

It was 1:00am local time twice last Sunday morning here. But UTC/GMT didn't budge (the first time it was 1am local time it was actually midnight UTC).

Feel sorry for the kid thats born at 1:30am.

Time of birth: Well it was half 1 but then technically he was born a whole hour already before his mother gave birth.

It's actually a lot more silly than that. Check this map out to see how semi-random it seems to be.
You'd think something like this would be standardized around the world. Well, you'd be wrong.

I wouldn't expect it to be standardized (for good reason) but I would expect it to be fairly non-existent in regions closer to the equator.

So why the heck do Mexico and Egypt do it?

Well I understand why it's -not- standardized because every country (or even regions within countries) has the right to set the clock to whatever they want. But I would expect it to based more on the scientific realities of the movement of the Earth around its axis and through the solar system more than on the whims of human governments.

That said I'd agree it'd be more useful to regions that are farther away from the equator regardless.

I think they should just get rid of it completely. It's a hassle.

The entire world should be on UTC

people would just get up and go to bed at different times but it'd save having to work out time zones.

Ye gods no. The fact we've 6 months of nice long bright evenings is one of the few good things about living over here.

Even with a 3 month old who doesn't seem to want to understand the concept, no matter how often I explain it to him, and has been insisting on waking at 6am this week I'd hate to lose my BST (I'd be happy to move to BST all year round though).

Well in case it wasn't obvious I think the idea is pretty silly myself. I think many of the reasons they started using it around the world roughly 100 years ago no longer apply. *shrugs*

You mean so an obscure New Zealander could collect bugs? Sounds like a solid reason to me.

Brrr...I clicked on the link and as soon as I saw the picture, I felt like I knew him very well...impossible as he lived his whole life before my birth. I must have known someone who looks like him, but I can't recall who, and now it is going to nag at me

Grin. And my dad is an entomologist

Lisa-Shrugging off a chill that went through my spine..now where are these newfangled capes and auras?
