Very logical for real fans of this game who want it to be successful and thus continue for a long time to come!

Quote:Considering I cannot have another pet out in conjunction with my Wisp pet, I really cannot find myself using vanity pets.
I used to on occassion enjoy spawning a clockwork pet to follow a gadget themed character, along with my Shield Drone pet. But now that we can only spawn one pet, I can't find myself giving up the usefulness of my Wisp pet.
So alas, vanity pets remain on the shelf with no use for me. I like them, but not at the expense of not having a Blue Wisp pet out.
The limit of one vanity pet - whilst I can see a certain logic to it - rather spoils the effect for me so I'll be passing on this one too -
I've got many but here's a couple that stick out:
Issue 6 and I'm in Frostfire on Scarlet Shocker. There's 6 of us... three tanks, and three blasters. Remember this is old school. You take the drops you get and that's it and if you're defeated and don't have a wakey it's running back to Atlas and back to Frostfire. A very long hall and no travel powers - but we aced it. It was a great run with the tanks all working well and the blasters mincing anything they taunted. Lots of fun and maybe one of my earliest missions that really sold the game to me.
Scarlet's 50 Ding: I was on one of those long outdoor maps that often get used - must have been I7 or maybe 8... but our team was running the whole map, and we ended up with about three and a half teams on the same map all following around... it was a lot of fun and the actual ding caught me by surprise. Scarlet was my first 50 and it was really great to have so many people on the map when it happend -
Quote:Which is sad on the part of the people who bring attention to that sort of thing on either side of it, rather than just enjoying the story.
Perhaps... but there's generally a lack of ethnic diversity in comics - and if Paragon killed off the most significant African-American signature hero, there would a justification for asking why they felt that was necessary.
It's a question they don't want to have to answer and so it isn't an option and will not happen. -
Quote:Arachnos Soldier gloves have always had fingers. We used to bring this up as an example of how we really could have fingers in the game, but not much came of it. However, if you watch the Arachnos gloves for a while, you'll notice that they actually look pretty bad, since their fingers are always held apart from each other, which isn't actually how real people act when they hold things.
Rather than animated fingers, I keep thinking we could get away with mittens indented with trenches between fingers which are still conjoined. Currently, the Monstrous gloves do almost exactly this, and they look pretty good. Might be a good middle ground between genuine fingers and meat hands.
I'd never noticed that and I'd much rather keep our mittens than the hooked claws of a certain other superhero MMO -
I tried making an SoA toon and using the Celestial Rifle. The character's left hand is actually above the barrel. There's clearly a placement issue going on here. Anyone else noticed?
-
I just created an SoA and he had... FINGERS!
Sadly didn't get time to get a screenshot but it stood out like a sore thumb ()
When did this happen? I've not noticed it before! -

Ok I'll stand corrected on those points but Warworks or not it's still not a signature enemy - it's a generic mob and thus relatively unsignificantated -
Aside from any story reason, killing BAB would attract far too much publicity to the game of the wrong kind.
One of the few ethnic signature characters being killed off would encourage many negative vibes. -

Quote:To bring this thread a little back on topic, it would be neat if eventually Honoree did get un-Rikti-fied like the Vanguard have been trying. You could possibly unlock him and his TF by finishing the LGTF. That way the character storyline isn't too horribly messed up.
"Why is Hero One a Rikti? I just ran his Taskforce the other night and he wasn't Rikti! Why is this happening I don't even! D:"
And yeah, Hero One is way cooler than Statesman.Quote:I have totally been holding out for this ever since you run the Midnighter arc. Considering what you invent at the end, I have been asking since Issue 11 why we can't use that on the Honoree.

Let's see if I got this right (Slight Spoilers for new players, you have been warned) :
Our first encounter with Hero 1 is when we go into the Vault under Atlas on our cape mission and we discover his time capsule is empty.
We then encounter him as the surprise gobsmack at the very end of the LGTF... This is such an important event that the mission gets two cut scenes back to back... we're given the H'rd'dtz (no I probably didn't spell that right) cut scene and think "Ok here's the big end of mission boss and then suddenly we're given a huge "WTF moment." Those damned Rikti have twisted one of the greatest, bravest heroes in our Lore and used him against us.
Our most recent meeting is when we finally defeat him in our Ramiel arc. The most significant thing there is that he is not a shade or an echo, he is the genuine article and we "return him to Vanguard." (Presumably into the direct care of one of the most powerful signature characters in the game, Lady Grey - where he can now be cured of his Riktiness)
Statesman is my bet to die for a number of reasons which we can speculate with at length but ultimately he's done with this game. His Dev's been long gone and not respected with the game community, his character has been so poorly written historically that he just comes across as an irritating, obstinate stuffed shirt, and there are several hints throughout the game that he dies.
Currently the game's splash screen features Statesman fighting a clockwork. Whatever you feel about that artwork itself, it's significant that a) It's only Statesman who features in the illustration and b) it's an insignificant opponent. It's just a clockwork - of the kind we take on from level 1 in Praetoria. That, my friends, is his swansong.
However, he's got one of the best TFs in the game. It's a genuine challenge for most teams, even those who have some incarnates and it takes the team to work together. It's loved by many players - and there would be a big problem removing it for those reasons. Plus we know that the Devs dislike removing content as such - and this is too good to remove.
But, he sends you on it, and then that's it. He's the mission granter, but that's his only significance as far as the TF goes.
So, Statesman dies, Hero One gets his TF with some minor tweaks (and possibly a rehab mission to reintroduce him to the wider community.)
Let's also remember that Hero One is a Brit and now we know he's an Incarnate - but the significance of that is (I believe I'm right here but open to correction) Hero One s one of the only non-American signature characters in game. As the wider community of players integrates with global server access and a united forum it seems strange we don't have any EU sig characters.
Note that I don't anticipate him taking over the leadership of FP - I expect Ms Liberty to do that. -
Invincible Woman WP/DM Tank is a double milestone for me: My first native 50 on Exalted (I've others that were 50 when imported across) and my first ever tank - after almost 6 years
Having fun with her and I'm expecting her to be my Exalted main -
I've got some great info out of this thread chaps. I should just point out that my Invincible Woman got to 50 on Saturday and she's now heading to the Rogue Isles for GW's PPP.
I've got to say I've really enjoyed her, and her damage output isn't as bad as I'd expected and there's not a lot that can give her too much trouble except she's weak to End Drain - but I've yet to respec her and IO her out - at which point I expect she'll rock.
I also want to Incarnate her... can't decide on the Alpha yet though, any suggestions?
Oh and for those who've not read through the whole of this thread she's a WP/Dark.
I've got a couple of others I'm working on now - finally after almost 6 years in the game I'm playing melee toons -
Quote:Paragon City really needs a lot more things in it to make it seem like an actual city. Gas stations, barber shops, malls, fire stations, hospitals that don't look like they were hastily built to accommodate all the heroes, etc.
I've always said we need gas stations and the like... and it would make a great series of missions for both sides protecting the fuel depot or blowing it up depending on alignment. -
Just speculating out loud a bit, but when Statesman kicks the bucket, will the Honoree get his TF?

Without reading every response I think the OP does make a telling point: The whole "superhero" point of this game is being subsumed into a generic fantasy MMO with the whole incarnate bollocks. I will be soooooooooo happy when it's done and hopefully then we can get back to the proper comicbook traditions with better spandex and space lasers and mad evil geniuses etc. -

Quote:Well I tried your guide... and sometimes it even works. But I've had instances since reading and implementing your guide's suggestions, where the launcher crashes before I've even had a chance to start the game.
My rig is up to date and my drivers are current. I'm still on XP and not inclined to upgrade to 7 but I can't see that being an issue.
As for why I left the launcher running in the background: Because crashy game is crashy and so when I invariably crash during an iTrial it saved time. -

I do agree the rocket board needs a lot more skins and I'd even pay for the good ones

Quote:The new launcher is used for PlayNC's file distribution system. It may have its drawbacks, but I never experienced it trying to connect for minutes (and sometimes even hours) to a patch server to get the newest patch, like the old launcher was prone to do.
10joy
My experience was very different.
I do admit that patches seem to be significantly quicker - but that's relatively small beer compared to overall stability -
So we're back to my first question: Why is the NCSoft Launcher such a turd? It provides ZERO customer benefit. It's crashy - I didn't know about the memory leak but it makes sense. This is a corporate decision that actually hinders the customer rather than providing an "improved customer experience"

Quote:Go to File-Settings
There's a setting at the botton: 'After launching a game....' and select 'Exit Launcher'.
That may solve your problem since it crashes during the game.
Thanks that's kind of useful... but I find the game generally so crashy that to relaunch then involves relaunching the launcher, then launching the game. It just seems this is an extra bit of badly coded junk we gotta use to play the game.
