Quote:Here's the thing about damage in video games: it will never make sense, especially when hit points and health bars enter the equation. If you want more realistic, consistent damage, play Call of Duty, not City of Heroes.
Except that (mostly) it's been liveable with up til now. Sure, inconsistencies sometimes and often clunky but this is just so dreadful it completely jars and really taints not just the mission but the writing of the Incarnates generally. -
Quote:Isn't that kind of the point, though? If the citizens are supposed to be a hindrance and public opinion an important mechanic, then making the civilians easier to kill as their primary form of interference seems superior to just making them dangerous via conventional attacks. It makes sense from a narrative perspective - you're there to win the hearts and minds of the people, not fight them directly. Having to NOT kill them makes them both dangerous AND not irrationally powerful.
Therein lies one of the fundamental problems with the game - a serious lack of consistency. Enemies we encounter commonly seem to be built from the ground up for every encounter: Ghost Widow is perhaps the epitome of that - she has such variance in potency depending on where you encounter her. The civvies in the TPN seem to be a bit tougher than any others I can recall encountering. -

Quote:I'm talking about what they represent now. It's quite possible they started out with altruism in mind. It's been about seven years since I last read that history, so my memory may be a bit fuzzy. But as I understand the controversy around them, it's that heroes are getting rich fighting crime, so it's never really certain where their loyalty lies. Would they sacrifice profit for heroism or would they do the other way around?
Either way, with Crey's taint, they're pretty much a shady organisation now, and that's the kind of storyline I'd expect to see. Then again, when their headquarters gets bombed AGAIN... Who knows?Quote:I think you've got it completely wrong Sam. It sounds more like Hero Corps was formed with the principle of genuinely wanting to help people, and Crey destroyed their headquarters then offered to underwrite them to get them in the Countess's pocket.Quote:Just because they could be in Crey's pocket doesn't mean they're up to all the bad stuff that Crey is into. It could just be that they think Crey is just a company like the rest of the world (apparently) does (some of the time). Crey's involvement in any dirty dealings that may or may not exist is probably just limited to the fact that they bankroll Hero Corps and so it's unlikely to investigate any criminal dealings of theirs.
Sounds like there's a very interesting arc there: Release Hero Corp from Crey's grasp -
Thanks for the help and advice chaps. Much appreciated.
After further experimentation I've got a nice system where the 10 main keys are power tray 1 and then the thumb button (Button 16) flips between that and power tray 2
Then I use the 4 lower keys for tray 3 - the last two being emergency powers
One thing I'm not clear about... if I use the powexec function, how do I get that into the Nostromo program? -

Quote:As I recall Posi was said to have used the plural "Persons", and the question asked at the time was about getting Powerslide released as a vet reward. The impression I got was that those responsible for the veto outrank the dev team in the company ladder.
Just tell the accountants there's a buck to be made and they'll be on the marketplace yesterday! -

Two issues here I think - the OP can't post in the MA forums (nice poster by the way) and is concerned that the real storyline will affect his arc.
I think the first point is reasonably valid - I guess the reason for access restriction to the MA forum would be to prevent "Hey check out my pharm...." threads.
As for the second, I don't think he need worry. Mission Architect isn't canon, and therefore so long as the arc doesn't break any rules has no reason to be removed.
PS really cool image! I am tempted to try the arc myself -
Quote:I don't know... I like Silver Gale's slant on the whole issue:
Considering it's actually the stacking debuffs from the Seers (as I illustrated earlier) that're causing the harm, Silver Gale's explanation has a chilling effect to it. They're in you're head, they're making you feel worthless and doubt yourself. It's just a horrifying concept and something I can easily imagine.
Hell, they should add captions to the trial that evoke that effect.
The problem with Silver Gale's position is simply that it would take like 4 of those seers and a couple of agent provocateurs to wander into Atlas, convince the civvies that they need to attack the heroes and hey presto, no more Paragon City.
If a few Seers can debuff Incarnate PCs to that level, that quickly, that a rock or two fells them, then that tells me the Devs are bereft of ideas. The overwhelming power of the Seers to debuff us puts all the other incarnates we've encountered in the shade. It's a good job for Cole and Mother that they are on side... they are way over-powered. -
Quote:Yeah, it's always a shame when a blatant exploit gets removed.
Not that I pretend to agree with or understand why we should have to wait 30 seconds to log out, but that's clearly the intended behavior.
An instant logout would allow players to exploit the game - when debt was mammoth if you could logout instantly to avoid death you could travel to 50 much faster. And remember the Dreck farms? If you could log instantly it could save the farm for you I guess
That's far less relevant now but I can see some instances where it could be still be somewhat relevant.
That's my best guess anyhow. -
Happy New Year everyone and may 2012 bring you all that you wish. I know for me the forthcoming 12 months are promising to be exciting and positive times and I wish the same for the CoH community

Street Justice, Staff, Stitan Weapons, Stbeam Rifle, Stime Control, Stdual Pistols...
I get it. I see where the OP is coming from now -
Quote:It is impossible ! I tryied with doesn't of different characters I never maged to do it on Any Slope! It impossible for me! I don't know why but I really don't get why the bobsled BS was added!
Well, clearly people are successful and are enjoying it, so it's not impossible - and the winter event is a lot of fun for many many players so there's obviously some magic that keeps peeps coming back.
There's plenty of good advice in this thread, so I'd suggest trying to take some of it and seeing if your results improve. You will have to practice, even once you've found something that works for you ut hey, that's how you get better right? -
Sam and I approach the game from almost opposite sides of the Spectrum [sic] - he wants to be the Sentry, I want to be Daredevil I guess - and it's quite unusual for us to be in such close agreement but I think we're in complete agreement here.
It doesn't matter what level of power you are, for something to feel awesome and astounding, it has to feel like you've come up against some kind of challenge, there's an epic battle and you walk (or limp) away having won a very close, and exciting fight.
This game is called "CIty of Heroes" but there's nothing heroic about going through the entire game, progressively getting stronger, facing bigger, tougher, meaner foes, and then being felled by a few civvies wielding rocks. Maelstrom in the TPN is bad enough as others have pointed out, but at least it can be (weakly) argued that he's gone through some level progression since you last met, just as you have.
But the rocks? It's simply an unacceptably bad bit of story telling. -
haha excellent! I hope your friend is having a good giggle at it now

Quote:So....if we become as "godlike" as some here think we should become.....how many times can you go and faceroll everything in the game before you get insufferably bored with it and go play something else?
Yeah, getting killed by a rock is pretty silly, but do you really have to be so invincible that nothing in the game is ever a threat to you again? That just.....doesn't sound like much fun.
I know Sam's answer already, but how long could you sit and play Doom on godmode before you shut the game off? For me, it was about 20 minutes.
The devs are hopelessly screwed here. If they make things easier, people complain because there's no challenge. If they make things harder, people complain because their demigod (gasp!) lost a fight (oh noes!)
From what I've read, there's a simple solution to this: Do the damn trial the way you're supposed to do it instead of ignoring an entire aspect of it and you won't be getting killed by rocks. Seems to me like the devs are getting sneakier in their getting you to not ignore things in content. It's like "Okay, fine, you want to completely ignore this part of the trial so you can speed run it? Now you'll get killed by a rock to the head."
I'm certainly not asking for anything to be made "easier" - I'm asking for better quality content, not some half-arsed, poor quality, immersion breaking piece of junk! -
content! Hazard zones need something to do

Quote:Oh....I don't follow the story
(so to me... "lulzstory" amirite?
)
You can just explain it away that Cole (Tyrant) is just a vessel of the Well's power...he's giving it to his Lts. and the Lts. are giving it to civilians now...
Or you could say that because they're civilians and you being a "hero"..you can't hurt them and don't want to so therefore the damage that they do to you is worse because they're civilians and are just confused (which they are!).
Actually what I really am saying is that for all the good content in this game, the Incarnate story is deeply flawed and this is one of the worst examples of extremely poor writing I've encountered.
If your theory is correct then Cole just does it again and invades the Isles and then Atlas and hey, presto: He's won.
I could say that because I'm a hero I'm not gonna hurt a civillian... except that it's a Co-op mission and therefore half the time I'm on a villain who wouldn't give a flying wossname. And if I were a hero there are far better mechanics for making me avoid hurting civilians.
This is very poor writing and even worse execution of that bad story. It makes no sense.
When Stephan Richter drank from the well he said "We are become Gods."
My characters have been drinking from that very same cup - they wouldn't be on the trial if not. And Gods may we be who have battled against the odds to win through countless missions. Hell most of my toons have the "Saved the World" badge and have prevented Gigantic Roman Robots from invading our City, stopped the alien Rikti from launching their second invasion, and regularly take down either Freedom Phalanx or Lord Recluse's team - and sometimes even both. I've gone toe-to-toe with Reichsman and his unwilling allies and come out on top against Nemesis more than once.
But some numpty with a bit of concrete and no superpowers can take me down in 2 hits, because there's a Seer in the room? That's not creative, nor is it being clever or amusing. It's a hack job and writing to a budget where we as the consumer are expected to suck up crappy content simply because there's lots more content than we're traditionally used to.
Ultimately we've been served up some unimaginative drivel that makes no sense, is intensely annoying because of its poor quality and thus cheapens the game -
I guess I've not explained what I'm trying to achieve very successfully.
On tray 1, if I want to use the 4th power slotted there, I press key 4. On tray 2 the 4th power is alt+4, and tray three, ctrl+4
But what if I want to use the 7th power in Tray 5? Is there a single or multiple keystroke as per above that will enable me to use that?
I can have (so far as I can tell) 8 trays running that way. I don't think the Powexec route is going to work for me unless I build macros. Also I don't have every toon configured the same way and so sadly Local Man's suggestion won't work for me. -
I notice that Spectral Core Flawless Interface is a 25/25% chance: Equal percentage for both components. For Radial Flawless, it's 12.5/75% chance.
Is that WAI? It seems remarkably imbalanced to me. -
Seems to me that it can't hurt to have these lounges open to everyone? After all those of us who post in them can generally be quite helpful and also a good place to hook up for Freems from their geographic region.

Quote:Ah, didn't realize you were trying to play without actually clicking anything or touching the keyboard.
Nevermind then.
And good luck.
BTW, I'm TJ, Texas, or Texas Justice.. Tex is a redname.
lol ok TJ. I'm trying to reduce clicking powers as much as possible - and using the keypad and the mouse to control the game as much as possible. I use my mouse for targeting, movement and direction control and the Nostromo for activating my powers
