Hi all,
Omega Sektorian here (if any of you remember me from Omega Sektor 08 the best event of the year) I have been missing in action lately and well came across this. I want to wish all the guys like Rockjaw and Aero the best of luck in the future and what ever they choose to do and say thankyou for the fantastic easter you gave us all in Birmingham.
Alas I am also moving on to new horizons and will be leaving Omega Sektor in 2 weeks but all i can say is...Omega Sektorian will go on fighting till he can't fight no more...so if you see me around please say...Hi

If I have to do more than a quick bio during a mission, I'll always offer to wait outside... If it's gonna take more then 5 minutes, I'll drop from the team so as to not inconvenience anyone. I generally expect similar courtesy's from everyone.
[/ QUOTE ]
I will generally ask if they want me to go outside - that simple courtesy is often enough for them to say "No stick around" and I'll follow it with a "kick me if the mission ends before I return"
I will generally extend the same courtesy to somebody especially if they tell me they are going AFK but we can't always be sure.
I've known people get in mish, go AFK with no warning and then return at the end of the mish - that doesn't jibe well with me and so they get short shrift. However, we all know that Real Life can interfere and this really is just a game so I tend not to stress about it too much -

I'm just trying to think of an instance when a super-hero *had* more than one side-kick active at a time, and I just can't think of an example. Can anyone else?

only thing i can think of thats even close to that is the x-men but thats more a group mentoring a group as it were

I'll turn the tables on you.
your team lost the sk for one member. So you have to break the team or get him a new mentor. How &%$£^&%$ selfish was your team to not try and find a mission compatible level or something you could all involve yourselves in? If it was a PuG then well, self-serving to the last man from the sound of it. If it was an SG team then shame on your SG for it's lack of support.
Drop the SK system? No wai! It's fantastic. Yes it can be used for power levelling (unless GG's on the team but hey ho) and it's within the rules.
Final point: This is the first ever thread I've read saying stop the SK system in some 2.5 years here. I'm all for the minority voice but damn you must be feeling cold about right now
[/ QUOTE ]
Scarlet, I'm not saying drop it at all. I'm saying improve it.
Answer me this: What would it remove from the current system? What would a syatem where the mission auto sks a player take away from the current SK system?
How would anyone lose out?
Apart from street farming. And maybe the game can keep the sk system for that.
I'm not sure if I'm writing in English and the computers translating to googldegook cause you are one of the brighter posters here and even you didnt understand what I was suggesting.
[/ QUOTE ]
I guess bottom line, the old adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" holds very true in this instance. The SK system works fine as it is. I can't see any requirement to auto-SK. I don't think you've made a case for changing or dropping it, because, bottom line, it works and works well (and I also believe it's highly regarded by many players.)
Your proposal is fundamentally flawed I think and yes, maybe I'm not getting your point but that's what you seem to be saying and my response is "No" -
ok getting back to the topic in hand (sans vitriol I hope)
the SK system is a time honoured comicbook thang. Batman and Robin are pwn that but you don't have to go very far to see Tony Stark and the (not so new) Spidey
Hulk & Rick Jones
Matt Murdock & Foggy Nelson (yes, sidekicks work in the -real- comicbook world)
etc ad infinitum
Lions the scenario you paint is very rare in game (I don't deny it happens) and can be easily cured with the addition of a new member who can mentor the guy with no SK. Personally I find that a much better selling point than "wanna tm m8"
I'll turn the tables on you.

This started with one particularly poorly phrased comment in an otherwise supportive thread - can we all let it drop now?
Hopefully all the followup mess is threaded off that one post, and GR can (and will) easily snip it out on Monday...

Funnily enough, the second hero I created was a Fire/Ice Blaster. Being still very green at that time, I thought that was a great, cover-all-bases type of combo - until mid-fight one time I suddenly had the thought "Hang on a sec - am I actually neutralising all my ice spells with my fire ones here (being that hot stuff generally melts cold stuff and all?)" Still don't know if there's any truth to that...
In fact, most of the stuff I have learned about the game thus far has been the hard way, in true newbie-style. For example:
1 - When you are a Defender, marching up to an orange-conning Lead Brick and launching into Sands of Mu is probably not a good opening battle strategy.
2 - When you are a Dark/Elec Defender... no, you really can't kill that red-conning mob on your own. No, not even if he's on his own too.
3 - If you really must fly 200 feet into the air with your freebie jet pack, remember that it's on a very short timer. And that the resulting 200ft-freefall is going to be slightly more hazardous to your health when you're still only level two.
4 - If something hits you hard enough to knock your health down by 50% in one shot, don't bother turning round to see who did it or where they are. Just chuffin' run, you fool!
5 - If you're going to teleport that single yellow-conning mob out of that bunch of four orange-conners so you can fight him seperately... don't expect the aforementioned orange-conners not to notice.
6 - oh yes... and the time it takes to stop twenty feet away from a group of purple-conning mobs and think to yourself "Oooh, they're too hard for me, I'd better move on and not fight them" is roughly equal to the time it takes for just one of them to kill you.

Thanks for the laugh
If it was easy, you wouldn't be a hero
Firstly welcome to the bed game in the known Universe (until October 21st at least)
SEcondly: Experiemtn. It's a game so if you can't zap and orange conning mob then go for yellows (actually orange is pretty tough for most solo non-melee types so don't feel too badwhen you fail)
Third: I'm not an expert on defenders but I do have some experience of elec: Try not to be all things to all men. Elec, unusually has three principal effects; Damage, -End & some very good holds. Not to mention AOE etc. Decide what each power you have is gonna do. Yes they are end heavy and don't belive the descriptive bit where it says "some of this endurance may be returned to you" (it might but the net effect is as useful as a rubber duck in the sahara.) But if you want a power to damage, slot for damage, if you want end drain slot for end drain. Etc ad infinutum.
A Defender's job is to defend. S/he is principally a support character. Yes, you CAN solo, but this game is geared towards teaming and the clue is in MMO (ie lots) so if you take one of the squishiest ATs and try soloing, well hello. That might sound patronising (you seem to have Sands of Mu so I'm guessing you have some levels under your belt) but it's an easy lesson to forget. I've got one of the hardest hitting PvE Blasters and I still fall down when I tank. My point here is to remind you what your team role is. Keep your team-mates alive. Grow with some like-minded players who will appreciate your skills
Don't forget that just cuz you've rolled this toon it's not mandatory you play it for 6 hours every day at the expense of everything until you've made 50. Be selective. It's easy to get sucked in to one toon so make sure you have others for (light) relief
Finally, enjoy the game. Challenging toons are sometimes the most rewarding. When you get this toon to lvl 50 you can justifiably spit in the eye of every fire/kin that walked the server because you earned that Hero of the City. Ultimately so long as the toon is fun for you, then enjoy it. Delete is an option -

depends on the magnitude of the fear effect, if its magnitude 10, break frees free you from magnitude 5, so you'd need to spam a few ( i think thats how it works anyway ) and annoyingly in PvP and PvE its very powerful as I've not managed to find many ways to resist it ( one of the Rikti assault suits in the LGTF is notorious for ganking people with fear followed up by laser cannon to the face )
[/ QUOTE ]
Ok that's new info thanks.
Just to make sure I'm understanding you correctly, if I get hit with a Mag 10 power and I pop a break free (Mag 5) that then still leaves me under the influence of a Mag 5 power? So another BF would free me totally? -
Well I don't have too many alts on Union of any significant level but I'll be back in 4 weeks time so the music will flow whatever server we're on
So get levelling guys! -

This one came to me out of the blue so to speak. I like it because it potentially has two meanings. The word in question is Mendacity the dictionary definition being:
men·dac·i·ty /mɛnˈdæsɪti/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[men-das-i-tee] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
noun, plural -ties for 2.
1. the quality of being mendacious; untruthfulness; tendency to lie.
2. an instance of lying; falsehood.
[Origin: 164050; < LL mendācitās falsehood, equiv. to L mendāci- (s. of mendāx) given to lying, false + -tās -ty2]
Source: Dictionary.com
So not a flattering name and perhaps not terribly heroic.
However, it's a word of three syllables: Mend A City.
Could it be used for somebody who wants to fix things their own way? -
So in FNFC last night and I'm terrorized. Well and truly shaking in my proverbials (and if you've ever seen them you know how that feels)
so I pop a break free. Nothing
I pop another one, and still nothing
Do break frees not work against Fear? Am I missing something? Is this a wierd kinda bug?
I certainly seemed totally unable to act while under the influnece of the terror right up until the moment I got defeated.
Any suggestions welcome, but my faith in the universal panacea of break frees is shaken! -

I understand that creating power buffs and base items counts - but I'm talking about turning 'titanium' (base salvage) into 'tech material' (component salvage). 'Refining salvage', so to speak.

I reckon the algorithm to take that process out of the badge qualification would be stupidly tough and really not worthwhile -
I would like to see all crafting related badges in their own category in the badge tabs

If you are here, chances are you like superhero comics. However, in the USA, just about every kid is brought up them (slight exagaration). In the UK kids are as likely to have grown up reading Beano, and an even smaller proportion will have been exposes in other EU countries do to the nead for translation. It all amounts to a smaller market. If you need evidence, look at how small the non-english server populations are. You can't put it all down to a lack of advertising, since there wasn't that much in the US either.
I'm sure you would get some take up for Asterix Online in the USA, but it's going to be a much smaller market than the DC MMO. Would it be worth marketing such a game in the US? Quite possibly, given the large population and wealth, but if your creditors are hammering at your door it is better to stick to the safe bets (unless the jig is up anyway, in which case a more risky stratagy would be called for).
Which is not to say that NCSoft are thinking of axing French and German support, but it is what I would do if I where in charge.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry buddy but that's just plain wrong. I've been reading Fantastic Four, Spidey and Hulk et al since I was 6. That's almost 40 years. Marvel have always been big in the UK, and are one of the reasons why DC Thompson have struggled in the last few years. Very few people "collect" Beano/Dandy etc. Captain Britain was created in 197something (I was 11 or 12 at the time) and was one of Marvel's hottest properties - it was exclusive to the British market.
Every kid who knows squat about comics also knows about Asterix and Tin Tin too. There's shed-loads of cross fertilisation between genres and Superman/Spidey and the whole Marvel & DC Universes are regularly translated into French and German (not to mention Italian, Spanish, Portuguese etc.)
Yes, it's a specialist market but most towns in France of any size have a comicbook purveyor.
The industry pundits tell us that the comicbook market shrinks year on year but that's actually not true. The quantity of comicbooks sold in the "Golden Age" may have been much higher (because many were given away free and counted in the numbers) but the comicbook market value has never been higher.
The Kids in Europe regularly buy and read comics in significant numbers. -
Don't forget it's tonight guys from 10pm UK time so get your powers polished and see you in Pocket D
